The maturity period is 15 years but it can also be extended to five more years eventually. You cannot close the account before 15 years. The government will relaunch the <keyword id="162207" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Kisan-Vikas-Patra">Kisan Vikas Patra</keyword> (<keyword id="52548" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="KVP">KVP</keyword>) scheme today (Tuesday) to keep investors away from gold. The government has also introduced some new features to increase savings that fell to 7.1% of the GDP in FY2012-13 from over 12% in FY2009-10. Investors’ money will be doubled in 100 months and there won’t be any upper limit on investment. However, there will be a minimum denomination of Rs 1,000. 
 "Kisan Vikas Patra was a popular instrument among small savers. I plan to reintroduce the instrument to encourage people... to invest in this instrument," Finance Minister <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword> had said in his Budget speech in July. The UPA government had closed this scheme in 2011. 
 
"The Kisan Vikas Patra scheme will safeguard small investors from fraudulent schemes. Re-launched KVP will be available to investors in denominations of Rs 1,000, Rs 5,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 50,000, with no ceiling on investment," the Finance Ministry said in a statement. 
 
The KVP certificates can be bought in an individual’s name or joint names, and can also be transferred from one person to another or from one post office to another. 
 
"With a maturity period of eight years and four months, the collections under the scheme will be available with the government for a fairly long period to be utilised in financing developmental plans of the Centre and state governments and will also help in enhancing domestic household financial savings in the country," the ministry added.

BCCI gears up for 2016 ICC World T20, forms organising committee

The Indian government has reduced the interest rate on <keyword id="807514" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="small-saving-schemes">small saving schemes</keyword> such as <keyword id="76579" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="PPF">PPF</keyword>, Kisan Vikas Patra and Sukanya Samriddhi scheme. 
 
In a bid to make banks cut their deposit rates, the government has lowered the interest rate by 0.1% for the April-June quarter. 
 
Meanwhile, interest rate on savings deposits has been retained at 4% annually. 
 
A finance ministry notification said investments in the public provident fund (PPF) scheme will fetch lower annual rate of 7.9 per cent, the same as 5-year National Savings Certificate. The existing rate for these two schemes is 8 per cent. 
 
Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) investments will yield 7.6 per cent and mature in 112 months. 
 The one for girl child savings, <keyword id="3035572" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sukanya-Samriddhi-Account-scheme">Sukanya Samriddhi Account Scheme</keyword>, will offer 8.4 per cent annually, from 8.5 per cent at present, while it will be the same at 8.4 per cent for the 5-year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme. The interest rate on the senior citizens scheme is paid quarterly. 
 
Term deposits of 1-5 years will fetch a lower 6.9-7.7 per cent that will be paid quarterly while the 5-year recurring deposit has been pegged lower at 7.2 per cent. 
 
"On the basis of the decision of the government, interest rates for small savings schemes are to be notified on a quarterly basis," the ministry said while notifying the rates for the fourth quarter of 2016-17 starting from April 1, 2017. 
 
While announcing the quarterly setting of interest rates, the ministry had said the rates of small saving schemes would be linked to government bond yields. 
 
The move is expected to prompt banks to lower the deposit rate in line with the small savings rate as offered by the government.

Public Provident Fund (PPF) and National Savings Certificate (NSC) will continue to carry an annual interest rate of 7.9 per cent, while Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) will give a yield of 7.6 per cent and mature in 113 months.
Interest rates for small savings schemes are notified on a quarterly basis.
"The rates of interest on various small savings schemes for the fourth quarter of the financial year 2019-20 starting January 1, 2020, and ending on March 31, 2020, shall remain unchanged from those notified for the third quarter of the financial year 2019-20," the finance ministry said in a notification.
 The interest rate for the five-year Senior Citizens Savings Scheme has been retained at 8.6 per cent. The interest on the senior citizens' scheme is paid quarterly. Interest on savings deposits has been retained at 4 per cent annually.
The girl child savings scheme Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana account will offer 8.4 per cent rate during the first quarter of the next fiscal.
Term deposits of 1-5 years will fetch interest rate in the range of 6.9-7.7 per cent, to be paid quarterly, while the five-year recurring deposit is pegged at 7.2 per cent.

"The rates of interest on various small savings schemes for the first quarter of the financial year 2020-21 starting April 1, 2020, and ending on June 30, 2020, have been revised," the finance ministry said in a notification. With the reduction, term deposits of 1-3 years will now earn an interest rate of 5.5 per cent as against 6.9 per cent, down 1.4 percentage points, the notification said. However, the interest rate on the five-year term deposit has been reduced to 6.7 per cent from current rate of 7.7 per cent, it said adding that interest rate on these are paid quarterly. The cut in the interest rate on a 5-year <keyword id="697865" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Recurring-Deposit">recurring deposit</keyword> is 1.4 percentage points. The new rate for this saving instrument will be 5.8 per cent. Govt cuts interest rate on small savings schemes for June quarter

The Indian government was thinking to reset the interest rates on small savings schemes for the upcoming quarter, but because of several protests from individuals who depend on PPFs and post office deposits to meet their financial needs, the decision has been put on a hold. 
 The government had moved to rates linked to the market for small savings products like <keyword id="76579" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="PPF">PPF</keyword>, KVPs and Senior Citizens Savings Scheme, so that the returns can be linked to government bonds in order to avoid these instruments eating into the bank deposit base. 
 
RBI had also demanded this, so that it could help lenders cut rates when deposit rates were lowered. This is why the centre decided to reset interest rates every quarter, which were earlier done annually. 
 The ongoing quarter has seen the average yield on government securities coming down to around 7.5%; this would have resulted in <keyword id="3248275" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="PPF-rates">PPF rates</keyword> falling to less than 8% as against the present 8.1%. 
 
However, as of now, the government has decided not to change these rates, because inflation is already troubling Indian customers.

Most of us borrow while acquiring a home. Gone are those days when our parents and grandparents saved throughout their lifetime with the 'dream' of constructing a house with their savings and retirement benefits like Provident Fund, Gratuity Funds, etc., and still the house remained unfinished to some extent. They hoped that their next generation will get a stable job and help built another floor before they get married. 
 
Sounds so nostalgic, isn't it? In today's world, soon after getting a job, people get their credit cards, swipe it to pay down-payment for a two-wheeler. Within first year, most of them buy a four-wheeler, and the end of second year, they start looking to buy a one or two bhk flat after borrowing a home loan. 
 
Now, our story starts here. In order to acquire an apartment in the city where you work, what is the price you pay? Here, we show you, how much you need to pay to secure the absolute ownership of that flat. 
 
Preparations before you buy 
 
Nobody buys the first house they see. We check out at least 30 apartments over a period of 6 months (or more) before we decide which home we would want to buy. In this process, you take a few off-days, call hundred brokers and builder's project sites, drive down to these places, eat outside and spend money. Now, this seems to be very natural and a must for all home-buyers. This cost of 'gaining experience' is a mandatory period for anyone. So, let's not cry over it. 
 
Then, once the house is finalised for the purchase to be made, you start talking to your credit card company, bank, family &amp; friends to arrange for the 20% of the cost of the property which you need to accumulate for the 'self-contribution' bit of it. You break your fixed deposits, Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), borrow from Provident Fund account, sell/mortgage your jewellery and accumulate say, Rs 10 lakh (we are assuming the home you are buying is worth Rs 50 lakh here). You will also have to pay a brokerage &amp; you arrange for that too. 
 
Then you start comparing rate of interest (ROI) of different banks online &amp; offline, meet a lot of sales executives, hard negotiate on processing fee and finalise on one lender and apply for the loan. After some paperwork &amp; a wait-period you receive your loan sanction letter and go to the seller/builder to sign the agreement. 
 
Here is when the surprise begins! 
 
Banks told you their fee, builder told you their price, and broker told you about his commission, but did anyone tell you about the fees that you’ve to pay to the government. Yes, you must be aware about the stamp duty and registration charges, but do not the fees you have to pay to the India government while taking a loan. And you thought that acquiring a bank loan was all about an upfront processing fee for which you had negotiated your best and opted for a 'nil' fee bank. On top of this, you have the legal fees, valuation fee, administrative charges, documentation fee, franking charges on sale agreement as well as loan agreement (mortgage origination fee), intimation of registration charges—and the list goes on. That is when most of us cry out and start looking out for someone who can list out the 'charges' for us. Even after all this, your home is still not yours; it is hypothecated with the bank. You will get the title deed only once you repay the full loan amount with due interest payable in the next few years. 
 
What you end up paying for a 50-lakh home loan? 
 
Let’s chart out the actual cost of your home-buying. Guessing that you will continue with your home loan at least for 10 years as the approximately 8-10 years is the average Indian standard before someone pre-closes their home loans. Now, please find the chart below:

The cost of completely acquire a home worth Rs 50 lakh after 10 years using a housing loan will cost you Rs 1, 00, 89,076 (Rupees One Crore Eighty Nine Thousand &amp; Seventy Six only).
