The lockdown forced us to stay inside the four walls, with no or limited social interactions and extensive travel restrictions – things we are still dealing with. While people have started stepping out and traveling to nearby getaways, it also comes with a sense of skepticism and fear. As we come closer to 2021, the travel industry is slowly picking up. Travel has become more about living, working and connecting with other people away from home safely. However, we are all missing international travel and relying on throwback pictures to relive happier days. So, KFC has launched a unique Virtual Reality campaign for its consumers called <keyword id="10374327" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kfc-faycation">KFC Faycation</keyword>. It brings international destinations to a consumer’s home. It allows them to travel to their dreamlands while following all the necessary norms for staying safe and healthy. We caught up with Moksh Chopra, Chief Marketing Officer, KFC India, to further understand the insights behind their latest campaign, how did this idea come about and what consumers should expect. Excerpts: Q. Can you walk us through the campaign? What is the idea behind it and how did it come about? The pandemic has led to various changes in the way we all think and behave. The kind of year this has been, being cooped up inside our homes for weeks at end, we have had our fair share of #MissingTravel and #ThrowBacks to our past holidays. I am sure we’ve all felt that strong urge to pack our bags and take off to exotic destinations; who would’ve thought we’ll even miss the bustle of airports or the familiar smell of being inside an aircraft. That’s when we decided to bring the holiday experience right into your homes, replete with KFC flavors from across the world. So we came up with the KFC Facaytion; an international getaway style experience within the comfort of your home with KFC this December. If you can’t travel the world, we’ll bring the world right to you! Q. What should the consumers expect? What are some of the new product launches lined up? Consumers booked their Facaytion packages on BookMyShow; some lucky travelers also won the kits through holiday-inspired contests. And then a kit-full of holiday themed goodies, and of course the food, was delivered right to the consumers doorstep. What is the media plan for this campaign? We usually work on integrated campaigns with a fair mix allocated to traditional and digital media. Having said that, millennials who are our core TG spend a lot more time online today as compared to what they did a few years back, and that is where our efforts are focused. KFC aims to push the boundaries of traditional QSR space with its latest VR-led campaign

KFC takes a dig at ordinary burgers in its latest ad with Anil Kapoor and Colonel Sanders

New Delhi, Feb 3 () The Competition Commission has approved proposed combination between Yum Restaurants and Devyani International Limited, the Corporate Affairs Ministry said on Monday.
 The deal involves "acquisition of certain equity shareholding and sale of certain KFC restaurants", the ministry said in a release.
 Yum Restaurants is a part of the US-based Yum! Brands Inc. and runs restaurants under three brands -- KFC, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell -- in India. Devyani International is one of the franchisees of Yum Restaurants and runs KFC and Pizza Hut and Pizza Hut Delivery restaurants in certain territories of India.
 According to a CCI notice, Yum Restaurants is transferring the business of "running, maintaining and operating 61 KFC restaurants located in the states of Karnataka, Telangana and Andha Pradesh (except Hyderabad)" to Devyani International.
 The book value of the assets of the business undertaking comprising of 61 KFC restaurants is less than Rs 350 crore, the notice said. SRS

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="6376241" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="KFC">KFC</keyword>, the Kentucky-based fast-food chain known for its “finger-lickin’ good” range of chicken fillets and burgers, has finally given in to India’s penchant for vegetarianism. In what appears to be a first across all KFC franchises globally, KFC India has unveiled a segregated vegetarian menu along with a strong message about its newfound bias for vegetarian offerings. 
 
Paneer Zinger and Veg Twister, in addition to the hot-selling Potato Krisper Burger, Veg Strips, Veg Rockin’ Burger and Veg Rice Bowl will now vie for consumer mind space along with their popular non-veg counterparts. The company has not only introduced new products under its veg range, it has also tweaked its global tagline “So good” to “So veg, so good” to show its commitment towards the category. 
 
Executives at the company say the new menu will help them satiate high local demand for vegetarian options. “We recognized an opportunity to deliver a significant vegetarian range for the Indian consumer, and to reach out to a broader target audience,” says Dhruv Kaul, director of marketing at KFC India. 
 Around 42% of Indian households are vegetarian, according to the Food and Agricultural Association of the <keyword id="6355833" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword>, and 35% of weekdays are vegetarian for rest of the non-vegetarian population. The apparent split is backed up by consumer choice at various fast food restaurants across the country. For instance, last month, on National Breakfast Day, out of the total free breakfast meals offered by fast food chain <keyword id="126895" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="McDonald">McDonald</keyword>’s, 66% customers chose a Veg McMuffin over Egg McMuffin. 
 
Interestingly, McDonald’s is the first global fast-food chain to bring in a customized vegetarian menu to India, which boasts of McAloo Tikki burgers, among others. Since then, it has steadily been increasing the number of vegetarian options on its menu, along with other chains such as Subway. 
 
Similarly, as reported earlier by TOI, nearly 70% of the total pizzas sold in the country are vegetarian pizzas even in regions like Punjab, which is known for its meat-loving populace. “It also helps that vegetarian options are more affordable than non-vegetarian ones,” says Arvind Singhal, chairman of retail consultancy Technopak. 
 In the future, vegetarian offerings are expected to play a big role for fast food companies in India, with more and more urban consumers preferring vegetarian food as it is considered healthier. At present, India is emerging as one of the fastest growing fast food markets in the world. According to a <keyword id="819559" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="National-Restaurant-Association">National Restaurant Association</keyword> of India (NRAI) report, the fast <keyword id="194559" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Food-Industry">food industry</keyword> in India is estimated at Rs 8,000 crore and is growing at a CAGR of 35-40% annually.

KFC Creates A Veg Menu For India

The food giant has forayed into the fried chicken category, a market that KFC is known for. Globally, take-Out Fried Chicken Market is expected to register a CAGR of 5.47% to reach USD 8,252.9 Million by 2025. Whereas in India, the organised fried <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/in-their-second-coming-global-chicken-chains-look-to-take-on-kfc-in-india/article9766123.ece#:~:text=%E2%80%9CThe%20organised%20fried%20chicken%20segment,CAGR%20of%2020%20per%20cent.">chicken </a>segment is estimated at ₹1,500 crore, growing at a CAGR of 20 per cent. Speaking on the brand’s foray into this new Chicken category, Smita Jatia, MD, Hardcastle Restaurants Pvt Ltd said, “Since our inception, we have been leading menu innovation to offer our customers products that are unique and clutter-breaking. The new McSpicy Fried Chicken has been launched post very extensive and comprehensive customer research that revealed that our customers in South India like their chicken to be crunchy, spicy and flavourful till the last bite, and we gave them just that. Through this new offering, we aim to recruit new customers from both the organized and the unorganized sector. We are very encouraged by the customer response and are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead.”

McDonald's eyes to capture KFC's market with the launch of Fried Chicken in India

India’s Quick Service Restaurant war seems to be never ending. At a point when saturation point in burger has been reached, thanks to <keyword id="33542" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Burger-King">Burger King</keyword>, McDonalds and <keyword id="6376241" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="KFC">KFC</keyword>, a new <keyword id="491" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="player">player</keyword>, <keyword id="349155" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wendy">Wendy</keyword>’s has joined the race. World’s third largest burger chain boasts in the fact that they won’t reduce the price compromising with the quality. A time when the price war has triggered a tough competition making McD and KFC to sell burgers at Rs 25-35 onwards, Wendy has earmarked the burgers above Rs 59. 
 As per a news report by The Economic Times, its starting menu has 11 vegetarian and 10 non-vegetarian products with burger prices going up to about Rs 200 apiece. <keyword id="1646510" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaspal-Singh-Sabharwal">Jaspal Singh Sabharwal</keyword>, MD at <keyword id="34499" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="private-equity">private equity</keyword> firm <keyword id="260134" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Everstone-Capital">Everstone Capital</keyword> that partners Burger King in India, agreed it is not easy to do a quality product at less than Rs 30. Talking to the ET, Wendy's <keyword id="194612" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-president">global president</keyword> <keyword id="2838732" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Darrell-van-Ligten">Darrell van Ligten</keyword> said, “"We are starting at Rs 59 because we believe that's where quality comes in.”

You can play the sub-Rs 30 game by re-engineering the product build and certain consumers don't mind it because they understand the price-value equation very well.
