Among the examinees were 63 students infected with coronavirus, for whom separate examination centres were set up at Covid Care Centres under the supervision of medical professionals. Likewise, the examination for students suffering from symptoms such as fever and cough was also conducted in separate rooms. <ul><li>The Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) on July 30 and 31 across the state.</li><li>For this, the government has extended a four-day quarantine relaxation for students and their parents or guardians from outside the state and country.</li><li>The Kannada Test for students from the border regions in neighbouring states will be held on August 1, Dr Narayan said. </li></ul>Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Karnataka government on Tuesday decided to conduct the Common Entrance Test (CET) on July 30 and 31 across the state. For the smooth conduct of exams, the government has extended a four-day quarantine relaxation for students and their parents or guardians from outside the state and country. Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Higher Education Dr C N Ashwath Narayan told reporters that the government would take precautionary measures to conduct the CET as it did during the SSLC examination. His department said in a statement that 1.95 lakh students will write the CET exams at 120 places in 497 centres across the state. The Kannada Test for students from the border regions in neighbouring states will be held on August 1, Dr Narayan said. In Bengaluru City, 40,200 students will write CET in 83 centres. Thirty foreign students will also take the exam The Deputy Chief Minister said the department has taken all precautionary measures and has framed the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to conduct the exams. Thermal screening, wearing of masks and physical distance will be strictly followed. The exam centres will be sanitised two days prior to the exam dates. "The state government has also decided that those students who are tested positive for COVID-19 can also be given the opportunity to write the exam. However, there will be separate rooms arranged for them. Students who show symptoms of cough and cold will also be made to write the exam separately. Arrangements will be made for ambulances as well as transport facilities at all centres, he said. Bus transport has also been organised all over the state, he said Speaking about four-day quarantine relaxation for students Dr Narayan said there was no need to panic as they had undergone all kinds of tests in view of COVID-19. Dr Narayan said 188 students from border districts of neighbouring states will write the CET exam and they could do so at centres in border areas, not having to come to Bengaluru, as all arrangements had been made there The state government has decided to postpone the PG-CET and Diploma-CET exams as the final year exams are yet to be held for those students, he said. As scheduled, the PG-CET and Diploma-CET exams were to be held on August 8 and August 9, respectively. The fresh dates will be decided after the final year exams of the PG and Diploma courses will be held, Dr Narayan added. Bengaluru, Apr 20 () The Karnataka government onMonday launched a free online crash course "GetCETGo" to helpall students of the state prepare for CET and NEET 2020 examsduring COVID-19 lockdown.Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa launched "GetCETGo" inthe presence of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for HigherEducation C N Ashwath Narayan, an official release said.It said, in view of the current situation across thenation due to COVID-19 lockdown, the Department of HigherEducation, taking cognisance of the situation has decided toreach out to the student community eyeing on successfullycracking competitive exams for career progress through thisonline crash course programme.The initiative will help young students who are at thecrucial juncture of their lives - in II PUC or Class 12, atthe time when regular classes and coaching initiatives whichusually cater to these aspirations being put off due to thelockdown, it added.Stating that the free programme made available to allstudents who are registered for Karnataka Common Entrance Test(KCET)- 2020, the release said, registered students will beprovided with a user ID and password to access the same.The web portal and Android App - along with thecontent for the Crash Course have been developed by SinchuInfotech and Deeksha Online, a reputed name in the industrywith a very successful track record for the past couple ofdecades, it added.The comprehensive platform for the crash course withthe videos, synopsis, interactive tests will be the firstinitiative by any state, especially of this scale on an onlineplatform for competitive examination in the country, itfurther said, adding that this scheme is intended to benefitall the 1,94,000 students who have registered for thisprogramme. It's 350 degrees below zero and has no atmosphere, which means the moon is constantly bombarded with cosmic radiation. But while human beings wouldn't fare well in this subfreezing, radiation-bathed environment, scientists believe that beneath thick layers of ice, Europa could harbor a different form of life. Scientists want to know everything about Europa's ocean, from its depth to its chemistry to whether or not it contains carbon and other elements that we know to be needed for life, Astrobiologist Kevin Hand tells KCET. One day soon, scientists hope to get a <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/europa-clippers-secret-lander-2015-11">closer look at Europa</a>. By 2022, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/about-nasas-fascinating-europa-mission-2016-1">JPL plans to send a spacecraft to Jupiter</a> to learn more about its ability to accommodate life. Because the intense radiation surrounding Europa would toast any curious spacecraft that gets too close, it would have to orbit Jupiter and pass by the moon 45 times over a three-year period to map it and set the stage for future rover missions.Until then, researchers are doing everything they can to answer these questions here at home. NASA's Buoyant Rover for Under Ice Exploration (BRUIE) is a robot that is used in the icy waters of Antarctica and Montana to test conditions it might experience in Europa's waters. It is the first machine ever built that's designed to explore extraterrestrial oceans. Scientists hope it can serve as a prototype for a rover that will one day swim the frigid waters of Europa.The ultimate goal is to answer the question of whether Europa's oceans can sustain any lifeforms. Inside the mission to this mysterious water world that could detect the first alien life

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image">Google Images<keyword id="2379" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="California">California</keyword> hasn't seen an <keyword id="6359072" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="oil">oil</keyword> boom in more than a century. </div></div></div>This September, California legislators <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/21/california-fracking-bill_n_3965069.html">passed a law</a> that paves the way for continued fracking activity in the state's Monterey <keyword id="188620" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Shale">shale</keyword> formation, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/shale-oil-field-santa-barbara-bigger-than-bakken-2012-11">which the EIA says</a> could contain oil reserves four times larger than North Dakota's Bakken.
But it seems safe to say that at this point, the bill was mostly symbolic. 
At a recent breakfast, David Howard, an analyst at Calgary-based energy research firm ITG, said oil companies were still "very far" away from tapping the vast reserve.
In a follow-up email, Howard told Business Insider: "...It is not a focus right now. The market has moved away from really paying attention California unconventional and I follow the market."
There are several reasons why this is so.
The Monterey's geology is extremely complex. The basin is sandwiched between mountains with high degree of structural deformity and is next door to the active San Andreas fault. Once you get past the structural complexity the rock offers many other challenges as it is very thick and has a high degree of biogenic silica which creates a very hard and very tight rock. Howard says it may be possible for drillers to overcome this, but the timeline will be long. The EIA's estimate has also <a href="http://ecowatch.com/2013/12/04/monterey-shale-myth-economic-prosperity-fracking-california/">come in for criticism</a>.
Despite its passage, the fracking bill approved in Sacramento also contains elements that could slow down activity. A specific permit must be obtained if a company plans to use hydraulic fracturing in their drilling. Once a driller has notified residents they plan to frack, the residents living next to a site can ask for their water to tested, and the driller must pick up the tab, <a href="http://www.kcet.org/news/rewire/government/five-things-the-pavley-fracking-bill-does.html">according to KCET</a>. The bill also mandated the state perform an independent study of the environmental impact of fracking. 
"In the success case the regulatory framework could be a choke point to a rapid increase in activity," Howard said.
The real indicator of a play's potential, Howard says, is the presence of independent operators. And right now there are almost none in the Monterey - they're all too focused on all the country's bother booming plays. 
"The limited number of independent operators active in the basin is likely to lengthen any growth/innovation cycle", he said. 
Indeed, among companies' quarterly earnings calls, the Monterey has only come up eight times this year and 21 times since 2008, <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/search/transcripts?term=%22monterey+shale%22">according to Seeking Alpha</a>. Compare that with <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/search/transcripts?term=bakken">more than 1,500 times</a> since 2008 for the Bakken. Although oil majors like Occidental are already drilling the Monterey, it takes a swarm of smaller companies to start a boom, and they're not interested. 
<div>The general rule in the industry is that if there's oil under the ground, the chances are very good it will some day come out of the ground, as long as the price is right.</div>
