<keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>’s investment in fashion portal for women's wear- Kaaryah- has highlighted how business tycoons are showing keen interest in start-ups and backing ideas and designs. 
 Nidhi Agarwal, founder of <keyword id="2741894" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="KAARYAH">Kaaryah</keyword>, said she had sought Tata’s investment after her father advised on it. 
 
It was only after her father pointed to a newspaper report about Tata funding eCommerce start-ups that Agarwal e-mailed on Tata's address. 
Three months on, her online fashion retail got the good news. 
 
So what does investment by Tata mean for her? "To begin with, your newspaper is calling me," the former Bain &amp; Company consultant told Economic Times, referring to media attention. 
 
She is one of the 10 entrepreneurs in India's fast growing start-up ecosystem who have received backing from Tata. 
 
Tata first invested in March 2014 in Altaeros Energies, a wind energy start-up founded by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. 
 
“While instant fame is one of the advantages of having the 77-year-old former chairman as an investor, the aura of the Tata name can rub off on startups that need to stand out from the crowd,” Rajiv Srivatsa, cofounder of online furniture retailer Urban Ladder, told ET. 
 
Srivatsa’s company received an investment last November and since then Tata has discussed everything from furniture design to supply chains and customer experience in three half-day sessions. 
 
R Venkataramanan, a close associate of Tata who advises him with startup investments, did not reply to Economic Times for this story. 
 
Venture capital investor as Prashanth Prakash, a partner with Accel, told the financial daily that Tata's willingness to back entrepreneurs boldly stands out, and he is also able to fill the existing gaps in the industry. "It's really not about the money - he is willing to be upfront about associating with startups he picks, risking his own brand," Prakash who is a co-investor with Tata in online jewellery retailer Bluestone, told ET. 
 
So, what does it feel like to be making a pitch to Tata? ET reported that proposals are vetted by Venkataraman before they reach Tata, who usually has two questions to ask start-ups seeking an investment, the risk, and the opportunity. Founders usually have 30 minutes to make a pitch and a successful one will be valued as per the last funding round.

· Communication personalization- Today’s informed consumer is not interested in engaging with a corporate robot. She is instead looking to converse with agents equipped to resolve her questions with tact and efficiency. With growing need for personalization also grows the importance for standardization. · “Process re-engineering” at every level becomes critical to bridging the gap between what’s available and what’s desired. It is therefore necessary to closely monitor all aspects of the business and tweak processes that can no longer sustain in the new scenario. 
 
· Training and team alignment for vision articulation and mapping progress is at the core of any business/industry looking to transform itself. Tracking MIS reports and KPIs on a weekly basis is crucial to ensure a progressive graph.

<keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> has acquired a stake in a fashion portal for women's wear- <keyword id="2741894" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="KAARYAH">Kaaryah</keyword>. 
 
The quantum of value of stake is unknown and Tata has invested in his personal capacity. 
 
"We are honoured by Ratan Tata's investment in Kaaryah. This validation from Tata is an endorsement, of the highest order, of our vision of creating a world class brand," Kaaryah Founder Nidhi Agarwal told news agency PTI. 
 
Tata had retired as the head of over USD 100-billion conglomerate in December 2012 and is presently the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons. 
 
The news agency reported Tata has already made personal investments in homegrown e-Commerce players like Snapdeal, Urban Ladder, Bluestone and Cardekho.com. 
 
He has also invested in Paytm, wind energy start-up Altaeros Energies and Xiaomi. 
 
Fashion portal for women's wear, Kaaryah, has a presence across leading online marketplaces and also serves through Kaaryah.com. 
 
"It is the only brand, globally, that offers western wear in 18 sizes, compared to a global average of 12-13 sizes," Agarwal told PTI. 
PTI stated that the Indian market for western non-casual wear for women, which is estimated to be Rs 10,000-15,000 crore, is poised double in the next three to four years.

Tork Motors will introduce its flagship motorcycle, T6X in the coming months. Tata is among the world’s most influential industrialists. He set up a RNT Associate in 2009, three years before retiring from Tata Sons. Since then, Tata invested in taxi aggregators, e-vehicle makers to jewellery lines. And, he has made good bets too, as the valuations of all the startups he backed, have zoomed. "The thing that I am intrigued by first is a start-up that has an interesting concept which excites me. If it doesn’t excite me, I really don’t need to make an investment in that company," said Tata. Ratan Tata’s magical startup investment portfolio

Ever since he became interested in start ups, many freshers in the entrepreneur business have been blessed by his magic wand. After PayTm, Ola and a several others, everyone in the circuit were keen on knowing where <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a> is further investing. Well, its <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=lingerie">online lingerie retailer</a> Zivame now. While no information has been revealed about when and how much did the Tata Sons chairman emeritus invested in Zivame, people aware of the development confirmed about the development. 
 
However neither Tata nor Zivame have confirmed anything officially. 
 
Zivame recently closed a Series-C funding round of Rs 250 crore from Zodius Technology <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=funding">Fund</a> and Khazanah Nasional Berhad, the strategic investment fund of the government of Malaysia. Sources have informed that Tata has invested in the company much before the above findings. 
 
After stepping down an active role in the Tata Group, Ratan Tata has become a superstar investor for many start ups. He has invested in several internet companies and startups including Ola, Cardekho, Paytm, healthcare platform Lybrate and women's clothing brand Kaaryah. Tata also serves as an adviser with Kalaari Capital and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=IDG+Ventures">IDG Ventures</a>, which have both invested in Zivame. 
 
He has invested in nearly a dozen of Kalaari's portfolio companies including Snapdeal, UrbanLadder, Holachef, YourStory and Bluestone. Zivame was expecting to close fiscal 2015 with Rs 50 crore in gross merchandise value, or the total retail price of the goods sold on its platform, on a loss of about Rs 35 crore.

<keyword id="2067730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Crayon-Data">Crayon Data</keyword>, a Singapore-based big data firm, is the recent one to join the league of a dozen startups that have raised funding from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a>.
 This personal investment from the chairman emeritus of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> comes just three months after he joined as a senior adviser to Jungle Ventures, the Singapore-based VC which has invested in Crayon. "We are excited and honored. To meet <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> and have our vision validated by him is an accolade in itself," said Srikant Sastri, co-founder of Crayon Data. 

	The company, co-founded in 2012 by IIM Calcutta graduates Sastri and Suresh Shankar, has raised $10 million in funding from Singapore-based Jungle Ventures and Spring Seeds so far. It employs 100 people within offices spread across New York, Dubai, Chennai, Singapore and London.
 

	Crayon has an engine that helps large enterprises deliver personalized choices to their consumers. It is developing what it calls a "consumer taste fabric", which maps choices across 15 categories, using machine-learning and complex algorithms. This taste fabric is then mapped to vast internal (enterprise) and external (online) data sets to provide a set of personalized choices to consumers.
 Tata, after stepping down from an active role in the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>, has become an influential investor in startups. He has put his money into several internet companies and startups including Ola, Cardekho, Paytm, healthcare platform Lybrate, lingerie etailer Zivame and women's clothing brand Kaaryah. In addition to Jungle, Tata serves as an adviser with Kalaari Capital and IDG Ventures. He has invested in nearly a dozen of Kalaari's portfolio companies including <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, UrbanLadder, Holachef, YourStory and Bluestone. 

	"We have always strongly believed in Crayon's proposition. Srikant and Suresh, with their years of experience in Marketing and Analytics, have always had a clear vision of the value Crayon can bring to consumer-facing enterprises," said Anurag Srivastava of Jungle Ventures said.

India’s start up scene is gaining steam; all thanks to the some of the best think tanks of the country investing their money enthusiastically into start ups. Having funded a couple of start ups recently, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a> is now investing in Holachef, a Mumbai-based food start up. 
 
Tata first invested in March 2014 in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Altaeros+Energies">Altaeros Energies</a>, a wind energy start-up founded by graduates of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Since then, he has funded quite a few start ups, including woman’s fashion portal, Kaaryah. 
 
Besides turning investor, Tata, is also an adviser to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kalaari+Capital+">Kalaari Capital</a> along with putting capital in some of its portfolio companies like <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Snapdeal">Snapdeal</a>, Urban Ladder, and BlueStone earlier. He typically invests small amounts - less than $1 million - in early-to-late stage ventures. 
 
A brain child of Saurabh Saxena, Holachef provides home cooked at affordable prices, all across Mumbai and Pune. Holachef had raised Series A funding of Rs 20 crore in a round led by Kalaari Capital in June this year. Holachef had raised a seed fund of Rs 2 crore from India Quotient in February 2015. 
 
Saurabh Saxena, Co-founder and CEO, confirmed about the funding and told Business Insider India, “With his(Ratan Tata) guidance, Holachef is sure to become a leader in the food-tech space, with customer delight at its core. By winning his trust, we have raised the bar of quality and excellence for ourselves.” 
 
Holachef has a couple of competitors in the market, including BiteClub, Eatlo and TinyOwl Homemade. Founded by Saurabh Saxena, Gelra and Ritu, this start up have both professional and amateur chefs in its platform.

Talking to Umair about future and upcoming services, he said, “We have recently revamped our machine learning algorithm to a revolutionary Customer Intelligence Suite. The upgraded version will change the dynamics of reporting and analytics when it comes to digital marketing and ensure increased customer acquisition for brands. The new dashboard is one of the most mature set of automation tools incorporating a full suite of features that not only help marketers manage basic communication campaign, but also provides everything a marketer needs: Dynamic Email, Notifications, User Retention, Real Time Engagement and more. Our aim is to streamline the hassle of data management for every marketer.” 
 
Minting it 
The company works on a typical subscription based model which incorporates all features (as Umair claims). Umair stated that they’ve also tiered based pricing, now this depends on the number of users of a client. The costing varies on volume and user base. 
 
The company claims to have over 35 clients including Ketto, Kaaryah, and Little Black Book. Further Umair specified that they’re looking at 100+ clients across industries like: banking, ecommerce, content &amp; gamming across the country and in UK. 
 The company raised $500,000 in pre-series A round of financing led by Aarin Capital Partners and <keyword id="6491998" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mohandas-Pai">Mohandas Pai</keyword>, Chairman of Manipal Global Education. In seed round they had raised $100,000 from by Nikunj Jain, Outbox ventures and <keyword id="2939297" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ritesh-Malik">Ritesh Malik</keyword>.
