When we heard that <keyword id="3778" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Karan-Johar">Karan Johar</keyword> was making a movie based on a family with two brothers, we were reminded of the success that Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was, even though coming to think of it, <keyword id="39101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="K3G">K3G</keyword> was nothing but an overdramatic run of emotional problems that could have ended with a round table discussion amongst the elders of the family. 
 When we further came to know that Indian heartthrob <keyword id="1320874" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sidharth-Malhotra">Sidharth Malhotra</keyword> would be starring in the movie along with his Pakistani counterpart <keyword id="2358880" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Fawad-Khan">Fawad Khan</keyword>, we breathed a sigh of relief that these two almost of the same age actors won’t be leaving us in tears, sitting on a white bench not once but twice in the movie. 
 When we came to know that <keyword id="6354526" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Alia-Bhatt">Alia Bhatt</keyword> would be the female lead of the movie, we wondered why there were two actors, who were playing real brothers, and one actress in this romantic comedy. However, since Indian cinema is at an experimental stage right now, we thought that it would be better to wait for the trailer before passing any judgement. 
 
Now that the trailer is out, we have only one thing to say, cliché. 
 
The trailer starts with Rahul and Arjun, played by Khan and Malhotra, driving on an empty road in the wee hours of night, with Khan, in his thick Pakistani accent complaining about the driver of another car who is needlessly honking at them. The scene establishes a healthy relation between the two of them. 
 The scene then shifts to <keyword id="51" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajat-Kapoor">Rajat Kapoor</keyword> and <keyword id="20894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ratna-Pathak-Shah">Ratna Pathak Shah</keyword>, the parents of Rahul and Arjun, who are always locking horns with each other, even in front of their children. Normal for Punjabis, we think and move ahead to Dadu (<keyword id="6357910" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rishi-Kapoor">Rishi Kapoor</keyword>), the quintessential wheelchair bound grandfather of a Punjabi family, well dressed and counting the last and happiest days of his life. 
 
Next scene shows us that even the younger Kapoor lads are at loggerheads with each other, throwing things at each other which if hit the right target, would make them regret their existence for the whole life. Again, this too is normal for Punjabi siblings. 
 
Alia is then introduced as Arjun’s friend and possible love interest, who coincidentally, also knows Rahul from her past. While she has drinks with Arjun and his friends, she is seen calling Rahul hot, and even kissing him (a fake one, of course, given Fawad’s love for his people’s emotions and more than that, his wife back home). 
 
The trailer then gets intense, when it’s clear that love is blossoming in not two but three young hearts, out of which two belong to real brothers, leading to a series of questions, tears and the revelation of Kapoor family having some secrets only they know of. 
The trailer ends with Rishi Kapoor saying that all he wants is a family photo with the title Kapoor &amp; Sons, since 1921. 
 
Overall, the two-and-a-half minute trailer takes us to a Punjabi family with two sons, who both get into a love triangle and question their priorities in life, but we are not impressed. 
 
All the actors of the movie have, time and again, have proved their mettle, and we doubt if they would fail to deliver good performances in the movie, but what we don’t understand is, why weren’t better scenes from the movie chosen for the first trailer of the movie, and why have the audiences been kept in the dark? After all, it’s a romantic comedy drama, and not a suspense thriller that we should be guessing what’s going on in the minds of the actors. 
 
While the actors look promising and the posters look fun, let’s hope that the next trailers of the movie come out well planned, and are able to raise our expectations from the movie, which sadly have been lowered by the first trailer.

Love triangle, troubled family and sibling rivalry fill up the first trailer of Kapoor & Sons

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Daniel Chan joined PayPal in 1999 and was there for its IPO.</li><li>He was laid off when the dot-com bubble burst and he decided to become a full-time magician.</li></ul>This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Daniel Chan, a magician who has been hired to perform for companies including Google, Apple, and Airbnb. The following has been edited for length and clarity. I worked at PayPal back in 1999 and 2000 as a financial operator. I ended up getting laid off after 13 months when the dot-com bubble burst.I'm glad I got laid off, because I got to pursue my passion for performing magic.Two decades later, I had the opportunity of a lifetime to perform magic tricks for my old company at <a href="https://puck.news/andreessens-politics-mackenzies-network-the-lefts-mvp/?utm_code=teddy%40puck.news">PayPal's 20th IPO anniversary party</a> in August. I jumped at the chance — I would have done it for free. The invitation said it would be a "tricked-out PayPal reunion party" and I was very excited in the build-up. When guests arrived at the venue, a red carpet immediately greeted them and staff handed each of them a deck of playing cards. A large stage and slideshows displaying photos from PayPal's early days decorated the outdoor area. The party was lavishly decorated with items like an ice sculpture of the PayPal logo, which later had lobsters served below it. There was even a decoration resembling the first-ever PayPal terminal that let people beam money to each other. Staff gave partygoers T-shirts embellished with the logos of Confinity or X.com, the two companies that merged to form PayPal, as gifts.<div type="image" title="The ice sculpture, which had seafood served under it." height="1152" width="1536" msid="97005811" hostid="261"></div> Most of the PayPal founders, known as the "PayPal Mafia," were there, including Elon Musk, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/peter-thiel-facebook-trump-biography-2018-2?r=US&amp;IR=T">Peter Thiel</a>, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/david-sacks-qa-2011-11?r=US&amp;IR=T">David Sacks</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-sci-fi-fan-reads-books-texts-affirm-ceo-2022-12?r=US&amp;IR=T">Max Levchin</a>. Early employees, staff who worked on the IPO, and investors who were instrumental in making the company successful all came along. Elon and Peter were seen chatting. I performed for Elon for around 12 minutes, and at the time, no one came toward him. It was almost like there was an invisible barrier around him and people felt they shouldn't bother him because he's a celebrity. <div type="image" title="Elon Musk signed a playing card used in the magic trick." height="3024" width="4032" msid="97005813" hostid="261"></div> I used a card trick where the card he chose, which he also signed, appeared in different places. Elon freaked out and was speechless — he didn't understand how the trick worked. I later sold the signed playing card in an <a href="https://www.rrauction.com/auctions/lot-detail/346580306500324-elon-musk-signed-paypal-magic-trick-playing-card/?cat=0">auction for $4,950</a>. Elon agreed to take a photo with me as I made it a part of another trick. I challenged him to figure another trick out. He kept guessing, but couldn't work it out. I fooled Elon Musk. I tried to handle that delicately, as some people don't handle being fooled well.In the outdoor area of the party, there were ten chess boards lined up. Maybe it was a reference to the fact that on the day of the PayPal IPO in 2002, <a href="https://www.protocol.com/bulletins/paypal-the-founders-hollywood">Peter Thiel reportedly played chess</a> with team members, but only lost to his cofounder Reid Hoffman, who went on to be a cofounder of LinkedIn. But at the anniversary party, nobody ended up playing. <div type="image" title="Ten chessboards were laid out on a table." height="2268" width="3023" msid="97005814" hostid="261"></div> A puzzle company called Shinteki designed a range of puzzles with PayPal's history in mind for guests to play. They have created puzzles for PayPal in the past because Max Levchin is a big fan of puzzles. One of the games involved having to do the "Faro shuffle," a method for shuffling cards in a way where they are interwoven one by one. Max couldn't do it, so I split the deck for him to help. Another puzzle involved lining a deck of cards up in a particular order to reveal words written as CAPTCHA codes, which formed clues. In the early days of PayPal, the company introduced CAPTCHA to crack down on automation bots. One side of a deck said "K3g" and another said "parking lot." That would then lead guests to the parking lot to do a keg stand — a drinking game where people do a handstand on a keg of beer and drink it — because on the date of the IPO, some people did keg stands. It was a cool party, and I was curious to meet Elon and see the man behind the myth. To me, for better or worse, he's a marketer. He's not a particularly eloquent speaker. In some ways, I was starstruck, because he's often in the news. But then I realized he's a normal person and, like anyone else, he's capable of making mistakes.
