Mr. <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, Chairman Emeritus, <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, will come on board as a Special Advisor to Singapore-based venture capital fund <keyword id="969909" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Jungle-Ventures">Jungle Ventures</keyword>. 
 
In his role as Special Advisor, Mr. Tata will spend time with Jungle’s portfolio of companies to help them build category leadership across global markets. Jungle has made investments in 30 Asian startups including Zipdial (recently acquired by Twitter), LiveSpace, Tradegecko, CrayonData, Fastacash and travelmob. 
 
Welcoming Mr. Tata on board, Anurag Srivastava, Founding and Managing Partner, Jungle Ventures said, “I have had the good fortune of working with Mr. Tata in the past and feel honoured to have this opportunity again to work with him. With his wealth of experience, there is probably no better advisor that we can have in this part of the world, to mentor us and our portfolio of companies.” 
 
Some of the other advisors that currently work with Jungle and their start-ups include Gokul Rajaram, Product Engineering Lead at Square, Lim Dershing, Founder of JobsCentral and Alon Sobol, Director of ISP/ Telco Relationships for Spotify. Jungle Ventures launched with a $10 million seed-to-early stage fund in 2012 and is currently raising a second fund with a much bigger corpus.

Jungle Ventures as Special Advisor

Singapore-based VC firm <keyword id="20669818" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jungle-ventures" source="keywords">Jungle Ventures</keyword> on Wednesday said it will infuse another $20 million in India's fastest growing ice cream brand <keyword id="20669817" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="walko-food" source="keywords">Walko Food</keyword>. This is Jungle's second investment into <keyword id="20668352" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="walko" source="keywords">Walko</keyword> Food within less than 12 months. Since its last funding round with Jungle in May 2023, Walko Food has introduced Yummo, its latest ice cream brand, tapping into a $3 billion market. The latest round of capital will further boost Walko's expansion across its product portfolio and customer reach, and accelerate its penetration into the Indian ice cream market, the company said in a statement. "This collaboration is a testament to Jungle Ventures' confidence in Walko's management team and its vision to nurture and grow our existing brands, including NIC, Grameen Kulfi, and Cream Pot, across various sales channels," said <keyword id="20669819" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sanjiv-shah" source="keywords">Sanjiv Shah</keyword>, Director, Walko Food Company. Earlier, the company appointed celebrity <keyword id="19917047" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rashmika-mandanna" source="keywords">Rashmika Mandanna</keyword> as its brand ambassador for its premium ice cream brand NIC. "Walko is tapping into a multi-billion-dollar opportunity in the Indian ice cream industry. In recent years, ice cream has captivated Indian consumers, causing a structural shift in dessert consumption patterns from traditional Indian sweets to ice cream," said Arpit Beri, Partner, India Investments at Jungle Ventures. Jungle Ventures is focused on early to growth-stage companies in Southeast Asia and India.

Jungle Ventures infuses another $20 mn in Indian ice cream brand Walko Food

<keyword id="2067730" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Crayon-Data">Crayon Data</keyword>, a Singapore-based big data firm, is the recent one to join the league of a dozen startups that have raised funding from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=ratan+tata">Ratan Tata</a>.
 This personal investment from the chairman emeritus of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword> comes just three months after he joined as a senior adviser to Jungle Ventures, the Singapore-based VC which has invested in Crayon. "We are excited and honored. To meet <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword> and have our vision validated by him is an accolade in itself," said Srikant Sastri, co-founder of Crayon Data. 

	The company, co-founded in 2012 by IIM Calcutta graduates Sastri and Suresh Shankar, has raised $10 million in funding from Singapore-based Jungle Ventures and Spring Seeds so far. It employs 100 people within offices spread across New York, Dubai, Chennai, Singapore and London.
 

	Crayon has an engine that helps large enterprises deliver personalized choices to their consumers. It is developing what it calls a "consumer taste fabric", which maps choices across 15 categories, using machine-learning and complex algorithms. This taste fabric is then mapped to vast internal (enterprise) and external (online) data sets to provide a set of personalized choices to consumers.
 Tata, after stepping down from an active role in the <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword>, has become an influential investor in startups. He has put his money into several internet companies and startups including Ola, Cardekho, Paytm, healthcare platform Lybrate, lingerie etailer Zivame and women's clothing brand Kaaryah. In addition to Jungle, Tata serves as an adviser with Kalaari Capital and IDG Ventures. He has invested in nearly a dozen of Kalaari's portfolio companies including <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword>, UrbanLadder, Holachef, YourStory and Bluestone. 

	"We have always strongly believed in Crayon's proposition. Srikant and Suresh, with their years of experience in Marketing and Analytics, have always had a clear vision of the value Crayon can bring to consumer-facing enterprises," said Anurag Srivastava of Jungle Ventures said.

Bengaluru-based retail technology startup <keyword id="3215798" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="SnapBizz">SnapBizz</keyword> on Sunday said it has raised an undisclosed round of funding from veteran industrialist <keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>. This is Tata's seventh investment in startups in 2016 so far. Tata, former <keyword id="6355725" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Group">Tata Group</keyword> chairman, has invested over 20 startups so far. In January 2016, SnapBizz had announced a Series A funding of $7.2 million led by <keyword id="969909" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jungle-Ventures">Jungle Ventures</keyword>, <keyword id="3215959" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Taurus-Value-Creation">Taurus Value creation</keyword>, Konly Venture and Blume Ventures. 

	With the mission of transforming the unorganised fragmented retail sector in the country, SnapBizz currently works with over a thousand kirana stores across Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Bangalore and aims to expand its footprint across other tier 1 and 2 cities.
 

	"A visionary of Mr.Tata's stature showing confidence in SnapBizz is is certainly a big boost for our business idea and will continue to accelerate the digital revolution in India's kirana stores. Brands are also seeing this as an opportunity to partner with us in order to be a well wisher of the retailers," SnapBizz Founder and Chief Executive Officer Prem Kumar said in a statement.

Speaking to Business Insider, Matus Maar, the firm's managing partner and cofounder, said: "We have both investors and investments there and they themselves are limiting travel and working from home. Those we work with in the region are avoiding travel between cities and internationally." Asked about the impact the virus was having on the global tech industry, he said: "There will be some ripple effect while China's manufacturing and supply chain is weakened." Fear of coronavirus has split opinion among big VC firms over whether they should keep traveling to Asia

The Ingka Group which owns and operates 367 IKEA stores contributing to 90% of IKEA’s total retail sales --- made a minority investment in Livspace, today. The details of this deal are yet unknown. “This minority investment aligns closely with the digital direction of Ingka Group and our core business, IKEA Retail,” said Krister Mattsson, Head of Ingka Investments, Ingka Group. In September 2018, Livspace raised $70 million in a Series C round funding from TPG Growth and Goldman Sachs, along with its existing investors Jungle Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners and Helion Ventures. Livspace, launched in 2015, brings together homeowners and designers and vendors, to ease home design with streamlined communication. “We look forward to the immense collaboration possibilities in areas such as catalogue and marketplace integration, retail technology, and online-to-offline innovations,” said Anuj Srivastava, co-founder and CEO of Livspace. This fresh funding will help the startup develop more products and take them to newer markets. IKEA's India partner invests in a home design startup that may in turn serve the Swedish retailer

<keyword id="6360722" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="ratan-tata">Ratan Tata</keyword>, Chairman Emeritus of <keyword id="46894" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Sons">Tata Sons</keyword>, has recently invested an undisclosed amount in <keyword id="2779670" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn">Tracxn</keyword>, the Bengaluru-based startup intelligence platform. 
 
With this development,Tracxn has joined the list of almost two dozen startups and tech companies that Tata has backed in the past two years, including Snapdeal, Ola Cabs, Paytm, Urbanladder, Xiaomi, UrbanClap and DogSpot. 
 
He is also involved with venture capital firms like Kalaari Capital, IDG Ventures India and Jungle Ventures in the capacity of an advisor. 
Talking of Tracxn, it has raised angel funding from Flipkart's co-founders Sachin and Binny Bansal, Delhivery's CEO Sahil Barua and $3.5 million in series-A funding from SAIF Partners. 
 
The company was founded in 2013 by former venture capital investors Neha Singh (ex-Sequoia Capital) and Abhishek Goyal (ex-Accel Partners), and tracks over 100 sectors including enterprise infrastructure, enterprise applications, technology, consumer, mobile, digital marketing, health, education. 
 <keyword id="2928014" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn-Labs">Tracxn Labs</keyword>, an angel invest fund, and <keyword id="3401467" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tracxn-Syndicate">Tracxn Syndicate</keyword>, an angel investment group are also run by Tracxn, putting it in competition with Let's Venture, which is another fundraising platform that has been backed by Tata. 
 
In its clientele, Tracxn boasts of venture capital funds, private equity firms and corporate development teams who use the services provided by the company it to spot investment, merger and strategic partnership opportunities in different sectors. Some of these names include Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, SoftBank, Google Capital, VMWare, GE and LG. 
 
In the past one year, Tracxn has increased its number of analysts assigned to exclusively tracking startups from 25 to 125. The client base has also seen a 400% increase to over 300 customers across 20 countries in the past 12 months. 
 
"Ratan Tata is a trusted household name &amp; his way of building things has played a critical role in how our thoughts shaped up in early days of our lives," Goyal told ET. "As we rapidly expand across geographies, his unconventional ways of building large companies with high diversity will be very useful," he continued.

The Japanese firm has made waves by ploughing money into startups through its $100 billion Vision Fund, but <a href="http://deepcore.jp/en/news/release/20180531/">it also has the newly established $52 million Deepcore fund</a>.According to Engineer.AI's British cofounder Sachin Dev Duggal, this is Deepcore's first non-Japanese investment. SoftBank did not immediately respond to a request for comment.Engineer.AI's key product is its Builder tool, which is targeted at people who want to create an app, ecommerce site, marketplace, or website for their business but don't have the technical know-how or budget to commission developers and designers to build something bespoke. Duggal gives the example of someone running a French ski school with 200 instructors wanting a site and app that connects their different systems, but unable to afford the requisite $500,000 for custom software.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image">Engineer.AI</div></div></div>What is particularly clever about Engineer.AI is that it is efficient. It reuses different building blocks of code over and over again across its clients' different apps or services, meaning there's often no need to code major, expensive features from scratch, such as search. A one-off feature that would cost $30,000 to build from scratch can be offered at a tenth of the price to customers, because Engineer.AI can keep reusing the same building blocks of code. Duggal said the most reused building blocks are built by the top 1% of engineers on the company's network of developers."It's an assembly line for making software," he said. "It's reusable building blocks, like car manufacturing, and a lot of automation."As users navigate through Builder and pick out different features for their app, site, or other software, the site uses a neural network to come up with a price. It costs extra, a little like Apple's AppleCare for iPhones.And who is actually doing all the building?Duggal says Engineer.AI has 31,500 engineers on its network and almost 100 developer shops.Asked how the concept is different to asking freelancers on Upwork to code something cheaply, he said: "We don't work with freelancers, we buy excess capacity from other developer shops. And there is a lot more control over the individual doing the work."Secondly, unlike something like Upwork, we don't rely on a user rating... the bigger score is our AI that grades the [engineer's] code. We pick the developer that will work on [the software] on your behalf. And we guarantee quality and price."Engineer.AI plans to use the new funding to scale up. Two men have been have been found and brought back to society after living deep in the jungle for 40 years, Vietnamese state media reports.
In 1971 Ho Van Thanh, now 82, fled into the jungle with his 2-year-old son after his wife and two other children were killed when their house was bombed during the <keyword id="13486" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vietnam">Vietnam</keyword> War, <a href="http://www.thanhniennews.com/index/pages/20130808-man-son-brought-back-from-jungle-after-fleeing-vietnam-war-bombs.aspx">Thanh Nien News reports</a>.
<a href="http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/2013/08/09/210477419/father-and-son-coaxed-from-jungle-40-years-after-vietnam-war?ft=1&amp;f=1001">Scott Neuman of NPR reports</a> that on Wednesday Thanh and Ho Van Lang, now in his forties, were coaxed out of their 20-foot-high treehouse — which was stocked with arrows and other makeshift hunting tools — after surviving for decades on corn they cultivated in addition to fruits, wild rice, and cassava roots from the forest.
They had been discovered after villagers who ventured about 25 miles into the forest alerted authorities after seeing two men wearing tree bark loin clothes.
Thanh, who has forgotten the mainstream Kinh language, had to be carried out of the jungle on a hammock because he was too weak to walk. The younger Ho only knows a few words of the local dialect.
<a href="http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/vietnam/10231861/Vietnamese-father-and-son-found-living-in-a-treehouse-for-40-years.html">Harriet Alexander of The Telegraph</a> reports that another son of Thanh told Vietnamese media tracked down that he had discovered his father and brother 20 years ago but had not been able to persuade them to return to civilization.
"We know he wants to escape my house to go back to the forest, so we have to keep an eye on him now," Ho Van Tri, who was 6-months-old when his father fled with his brother, told local media.
<a href="http://www.thanhniennews.com/index/pages/20130808-man-son-brought-back-from-jungle-after-fleeing-vietnam-war-bombs.aspx" target="_blank">Thanh Nien News notes</a> that nearby was a field, which is about one hectare (2.47 acre), where they planted sugarcane and tobacco. The pair kept also reportedly kept a small fire in the house and smoked tobacco to keep warm on cold days.
The father reportedly kept his soldier’s trousers neatly folded in a corner along with a little red coat his son was thought to have been wearing when they fled.
