Mumbai, Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha member and spokesperson Sanjay Raut's <keyword id="10541297" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="wife-varsha-raut">wife Varsha Raut</keyword> on Monday deposed before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with its <keyword id="481005" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="money-laundering-probe">money laundering probe</keyword> into the <keyword id="8178546" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="PMC-Bank-fraud-case">PMC bank fraud case</keyword>. According to ED sources, she arrived at the financial probe agency office here in the afternoon. The source said that she will questioned about the Rs 55 lakh interest free loan transferred to her in 2010 and 2011 by her business partner Madhuri Raut, the wife of Pravin Raut, who has been accused of money laundering in the HDIL case. The source further said that she will also be questioned about her partnership with Madhuri Raut in Avani Construction and how did she receive Rs 12 lakh from the entity (as overdrawn capital converted to loan) on a contribution of Rs 5,625. According to ED officials, the loan amount of Rs 12 lakh to Varsha Raut is still outstanding. This is the first time that Varsha Raut has appeared before the ED after being summoned twice by the agency in the case. The ED has registered a case of money laundering on the basis of FIR registered by Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing against <keyword id="638887" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-Development-Infrastructure-Ltd">Housing Development Infrastructure Ltd</keyword> (HDIL), its promoter Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan, Sarang Wadhawan, Waryam Singh, the then Chairman and Managing Director of the bank <keyword id="829201" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Joy-Thomas">Joy Thomas</keyword> and others for causing loss to the tune of Rs 4,355 crore to PMC Bank and corresponding gain to themselves. The ED has attached properties worth Rs 72 crore on January 1 of Pravin Raut under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) as during investigation, it was revealed that Rs 95 crore has been allegedly siphoned off through HDIL by him in active conspiracy and connivance with various persons. The ED officials on January 1 had said that the source of the funds was illegal availed loans or advances etc by HDIL from the PMC Bank. There was no document or agreement in support of these payments made to Pravin Raut. The official further said that as per the ledger of HDIL, the funds were given to him for acquiring land in Palghar area. The ED official had said it was also found that Raut paid an amount of Rs 1.6 crore to his wife from the proceeds of crime. Madhuri Raut had transferred Rs 55 lakh out of Rs 1.6 crore to Varsha in 2010 and 2011. The amount was further utilised for purchase of a flat in Mumbai's Dadar East, the official said. The notice to Varsha had sparked a huge political row in the state with the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi allies Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress and opposition <keyword id="58687" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bharatiya-Janata-Party">Bharatiya Janata Party</keyword> trading verbal blows. In May 2020, Thomas shared an Instagram post <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CAvaxdRJRxu/">bringing intersectional environmentalism</a> to the attention of her followers, which now amount to over 236,000. The post's caption read: "Social justice cannot wait. It is not an optional 'add-on' to environmentalism. It is unfair to opt in and out of caring about racial injustices when many of us cannot."The caption added that Black, Indigenous, and other ethnic minority communities face the daily impact of social and environmental injustice. The post created a movement and brought together a group of goal-orientated climate activists who want to make environmental education joyful, Thomas said.<h2>Thomas now hosts sustainable gatherings for the community </h2>Thomas said she has now hosted two sustainable events, one at a zero-waste venue in Brooklyn and another that was an outdoor event in Los Angeles."A year ago, I thought of an idea to host really intimate climate justice concerts because I wanted to find new ways to educate folks about environmental nonprofits that were also really fun and hopeful," Thomas told Insider. Thomas said a lot of sustainability improvements tend to focus on consumer behavior and individual choices, but telling people to go out and buy new eco-friendly items can be counterproductive. There are a number of simple ways that people can plan more environmentally conscious events, whether they're small at-home gatherings or large corporate parties. <h2>Try to serve locally-sourced food and avoid single-use items</h2>Seeking out locally-sourced food products can be a great way to make an event more environmentally conscious, Thomas said, adding that natural wine is also a good purchase. Thomas said she hosted her birthday party in December with seven close friends and invited the founder of <a href="https://homegrown.kitchen/">Homegrown Kitchen</a> in Los Angeles to cook for her. "This is not an everyday occurrence, but having her team cook a really beautiful meal that's locally sourced with sustainable ingredients was how I wanted to spend my birthday," she said. From an intersectional perspective, Thomas said she's aware that these methods are not financially viable for everyone but another option is trying to avoid single-use items. "I have coasters that are made out of a fabric that's been plant-dyed."For those who can't avoid single-use items, opt for biodegradable and compostable paper plates and cutlery, she added. <h2>Create table displays and decorations from existing materials</h2>When it comes to an event space, Thomas thinks minimalism is the way to go because "less is more." She suggested getting crafty with old fabrics and materials you already own to create decorations. "You can make little pompoms if you shred up fabric," she added. Thomas also said that if you have table displays, ensure that the items can be used after the event ends to avoid waste. New Delhi, The ED has summoned <keyword id="1408828" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Varsha-Raut">Varsha Raut</keyword>, wife of <keyword id="6358821" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="shiv-sena">Shiv Sena</keyword> MP <keyword id="6355496" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sanjay-Raut">Sanjay Raut</keyword>, for questioning in the PMC Bank money laundering case on December 29, officials said on Sunday. Varsha Raut has been asked to appear before the federal agency in Mumbai. This is the third summons issued to her after she skipped the earlier two on health grounds, they said. The summons for questioning has been issued to her under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED wants to question Varsha Raut with regard to "receipt" of some funds that were allegedly siphoned from the bank, official sources claimed. The ED had filed a PMLA case to probe the alleged loan fraud in the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank in October last year against the <keyword id="638887" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Housing-Development-Infrastructure-Ltd">Housing Development Infrastructure Ltd</keyword> (HDIL), its promoters Rakesh Kumar Wadhawan and his son Sarang Wadhawan, its former chairman Waryam Singh and ex-managing director Joy Thomas. The agency took cognisance of a Mumbai Police Economic Offences Wing FIR against them for allegedly causing "wrongful loss, prima facie to the tune of ₹4,355 crore to PMC Bank, and corresponding gains to themselves". The Shiv Sena, which is part of Maharashtra's ruling alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) along with the NCP and the Congress, had earlier alleged that central probe agencies have been targeting them unfairly. Former BJP leader Eknath Khadse, who recently joined Sharad Pawar's Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has also been summoned by the ED for questioning on December 30 in Mumbai in connection with a money laundering case linked to a land deal in Pune's Bhosri area. Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut's wife summoned for questioning in PMC Bank money laundering case

Mumbai, Nov 19 () Senior officials of scam-hit PMC Bank used special codes to hide hundreds of dummy loan accounts of HDIL, to which the bank had over 73 per cent of its loan exposure, the Reserve Bank informed the Bombay High Court on Tuesday.
In an affidavit, the RBI also said of the 1,800 employees of Punjab &amp; Maharashtra Cooperative (PMC) Bank, only about 25 of them could access the loans accounts of the now bankrupt real estate developer HDIL and its group entities.
The regulator said these few employees used an access code to hide and restrict the visibility of these dummy accounts of the realty developer.
The Reserve Bank is closely monitoring the situation at the bank and a forensic audit is underway, governor Shaktikanta Das had said earlier amid persisting uncertainty over depositors' funds.
"Senior officials of the PMC Bank had assigned certain specific access codes to the accounts belonging to HDIL and its group entities which were used for assigning restricted visibility," the RBI affidavit said.
"Less than 25 of the 1,800 staff of the bank, could access these loan accounts. As a result, all the stressed HDIL group accounts were omitted from the system," it added.
The arrested promoters of HDIL allegedly siphoned funds from PMC Bank by using overdraft facilities and the money was "disguised" as loan accounts by bank officials, the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police had said earlier.
The urban cooperative bank, which was placed under an RBI administrator on September 23, has an exposure to the bankrupt HDIL of over Rs 6,500 crore, which is 73 per cent of its entire assets of Rs 8,880 crore.
The RBI further said the undisclosed loan accounts to the HDIL group were sanctioned and renewed with approval of the bank's now-suspended managing director Joy Thomas, who is behind the bars now along with the bank chairman Wayram Singh.
"These loan sanctions are not recorded in the minutes of loans committee, recovery committee and so on," the affidavit said.
"PMC Bank submitted fraudulently manipulated data to the RBI for sample checks and the sample of accounts picked for inspection did not contain the undisclosed HDIL related accounts," it said.
The RBI also informed the court that depositors of the bank can approach the RBI-appointed administrator for withdrawal up to Rs 1 lakh in case of medical emergencies.
The withdrawal limit for account holders was initially Rs 1,000 per each customer for six months, which was later raised to Rs 10,000 and is now presently at Rs 50,000. SP HV AP BEN ZMN

 As per the RBI sanctions, the PMC Bank is debarred for six months from granting, renewing any loans and advances, make any investments, incur any liability, including borrowal of funds or accept fresh deposits, etc, without the prior written approval from RBI.  The RBI has also restricted PMC, which ranks among the top 10 cooperative banks in the country, from disbursing, agreeing to disburse any payment-- even if it is to discharge its liabilities. Neither can the bank enter into any compromise or arrangements and sell, transfer or otherwise dispose of any of its properties or assets except as notified in the RBI notification of Monday.
