Jon Cryer shut down Rep. Matt Gaetz who said Charlie Sheen carried 'Two and a Half Men'

Cryer's <keyword id="10876" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="salary">salary</keyword> was just bumped from less than $600,000 to $620,000 an episode (when including perks), according to <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/two-a-men-jon-cryer-449110" target="_blank">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher will remain the highest-paid sitcom actor on <keyword id="6357922" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Television">television</keyword> with his $700,000 per episode paycheck.
With 22 episodes a season, that means Kutcher rakes in $15.4 million — but the show still isn't as successful in the ratings as it was when Charlie Sheen starred on the show until he was <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/charlie-sheen-fired-two-a-165014" target="_blank">fired in 2011</a>.
The CBS sitcom's April 25 episode hit a series-low 2.8 rating in the 18-to-49 demo, according to THR.
Another change in the new season is the loss of 19-year-old series regular Angus T. Jones, who angered series co-creator Chuck Lorre in November by <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/angus-t-jones-two-and-a-half-men-bizarre-video-with-spiritual-guide-2012-11" target="_blank">calling the show "filth" and begging viewers not to watch it in a viral video</a>.
The actor, who is making more than $300,000 an episode this season and has been with the show since its launch in 2003, has rarely been seen on the show save for Skype sessions after his character joined the Army.

A Parkland survivor's father is turning up the heat on Amazon to cut ties with the NRA

"Saturday Night Live" sketch "Family Feud" was full of spot-on celebrity impressions.
With Kenan Thompson playing a hilarious version of host Steve Harvey, he introduced the different teams of celebrities by TV network. 
Representing CBS were Jim Parsons, Ashton Kutcher, Alyson Hannigan, and Jon Cryer. Competing for NBC was Jane Lynch, Ice-T, "SNL" newbie Brooks Wheelan (who Steve Harvey said he never heard of), and musical guest Justin Timberlake playing "Late Night" and "SNL" host, Jimmy Fallon.
The best part was when Timberlake, playing Fallon, competed against Fallon, who perfectly portrayed "Big Bang Theory" star Jim Parsons.

According to a new TV salary report from TV Guide, Spacey is making <a href="http://www.tvguide.com/PhotoGallery/Highest-Paid-TV-Stars-2014-1085693/1085698">$500,000 an episode</a> for his lead role on the Emmy-winning political thriller "House of Cards."
TV Guide reports that number includes producer's fees and profit participation.
Season 2 of the series, which launched in February, had 13 episodes. That puts the actor's salary at $6.5 million. 
The figure places Spacey into an elite club on network television that make over $500,000 per episode. According to TV Guide that includes Mark Harmon for "NCIS" ($525,000), "Two and a Half Men" actors Jon Cryer ($650,000) and Ashton Kutcher ($750,000), and "The Big Bang Theory" stars Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, and Johnny Galecki who just netted $1 million per episode salaries. 
On the series, Spacey plays a ruthless democratic house whip, Frank Underwood, who strategizes his way to the top of the White House.
"House of Cards" received 13 Emmy nods for season 2 including Outstanding Lead Actor (Spacey), Outstanding Lead Actress (Robin Wright), and Outstanding Drama Series.
TV guide predicts the streaming service could eventually pay Spacey a $1 million salary for his role.
"House of Cards" has been renewed for season 3 which is expected to air on Netflix next year.

But after <a href="http://mashable.com/2013/09/23/emmys-winners-list-netflix-wins-history/" target="_blank">Netflix made history last year</a> by being the first non-TV network to win an award (<a href="http://mashable.com/2013/09/23/emmys-winners-list-netflix-wins-history/" target="_blank">three awards</a>, to be exact), perhaps Emmy voters got scared that streaming sites <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/dorothypomerantz/2012/07/03/netflix-has-more-viewers-than-any-cable-network/" target="_blank">would take their viewers</a> and their accolades. Even Seth Meyers poked fun at Netflix's dominance in his <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gBc7ubEO1c&amp;list=UUccjdJEay2hpb5scz61zY6Q">opening monologue</a> of the night.
Perhaps voters also preferred to stick with a network selection over cable competition, which also included HBO's "Silicon Valley" and "Veep."
Emmy voters are members of <a href="http://www.emmys.com/members/how-to-join" target="_blank">The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences</a>, who have <a href="http://www.bustle.com/articles/37107-who-votes-for-the-emmys-people-who-meet-a-long-list-of-really-specific-requirements-thats" target="_blank">applied and been approved</a> by a "peer group." Those accepted include actors, casting directors, producers, directors, and tons of behind-the-scenes people who have been in the 'biz for a very long time and likely want to see network television prevail.
Emmy voters quickly recognized "Modern Family" as a safe choice.
When the show first premiered in 2009, it quickly had mass appeal. Combining three family units including a gay couple with an adopted daughter, an older man with a hot Colombian wife, and a traditional suburban family - it was like "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0312081/">8 Simple Rules</a>" meets "<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075596/">Three's Company</a>" mixed with some "<a href="http://www.nickatnite.com/shows/george-lopez/">George Lopez</a>." 

By 2012, it was so popular that NBC tried - <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/nbc-cancels-new-normal-520920">and failed</a> - to duplicate its success with <a href="http://www.vulture.com/2012/09/tv-review-the-new-normal.html">look-alike show</a> "The New Normal."
But already the "Modern" characters were starting to feel stale to some critics.
"As 'Modern Family' has gotten older, its characters, and their dynamics, have settled into grooves, some more discordant than others," Salon's Willa Paskin wrote in 2012.
Meanwhile, where storylines in older episodes would tie together brilliantly, some new episodes feature disappointingly unconnected plot lines. They also feel increasingly formulaic.

The viewership for the series, while still high, isn't as large as it once was. The ratings for "Modern Family" by its season average nearly make a bell curve.

A look at fan reception of every episode to date shows a gradual decline in viewer interest. The series hits a low note near the end of season 4.

Despite the recent slump, the series' most <a href="http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/modern-family-las-vegas-202722">positively</a> reviewed episode actually came this past season when the family took a trip to <a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3508788/">Las Vegas</a>. Taking the family out of their normal setting invigorated the episode, and all the storylines come together for a more satisfying end that was reminiscent of the show's earlier seasons.
That's probably why the episode won an Emmy for <a href="http://www.emmys.com/shows/modern-family">Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series</a>. "Las Vegas" and the <a href="http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2014/05/modern-family-review-message-received.html">positive</a> <a href="http://www.avclub.com/tvclub/modern-family-message-received-204380">reception</a> of one other stand-out episode from season 5 titled "<a href="http://abc.go.com/shows/modern-family/episode-guide/season-05/522-message-received">Message Received</a>" may have helped Emmy voters give it a win. 

This is not the only time the Emmy's has awarded a show that's past its prime.
Just look at how long "Two and a Half Men" kept winning Emmys after its prime. While <a href="http://graphtv.kevinformatics.com/tt0369179">fan ratings</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/two-and-a-half-men-ratings-without-charlie-sheen-2014-5">TV ratings</a> plunged after Charlie Sheen left in season 9, that didn't stop the show from receiving 14 more Emmys nominations, with co-star Jon Cryer receiving four more nominations and securing two wins. 
More often than not, when it comes to comedies, the Emmys play it safe <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primetime_Emmy_Award_for_Outstanding_Comedy_Series#Winners_and_nominees">giving the awards to a network TV show over cable</a>. Since the Emmys' inception there has only been one time a cable channel has won the Outstanding Comedy series. That honor is held by HBO, as "Sex and the City" won Best Comedy in 2001.
Even if the Emmys are playing favorites with "Modern Family," the ABC show is not as popular as it once was with the Awards' show. The amount of Emmy nominations the series has received and won over the years has slowly been on the decline.

Why 'Modern Family' Keeps Winning Emmys Over Better Shows

<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Warning: There are spoilers ahead if you haven't watched the "Two and a Half Men" finale.The series finale of "Two and a Half Men" aired Thursday, and many tuned in to see whether or not Charlie Sheen would return to reprise his lead character of Charlie Harper.Sheen was famously <a href="http://mediadecoder.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/03/07/charlie-sheen-fired-from-two-and-a-half-men/?_php=true&amp;_type=blogs&amp;_r=1">fired from the show four years ago</a> after making negative comments about series creator Chuck Lorre on radio and TMZ, and subsequently <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKM0cERkXJQ">exhibited strange behavior in a string of network interviews</a>.Ratings for the CBS comedy <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/two-and-a-half-men-ratings-without-charlie-sheen-2014-5">plummeted after Sheen was awkwardly killed off the show</a> and was replaced with Ashton Kutcher.The series finale revolved entirely around Sheen's character.It turned out Harper was alive and was being held prisoner for the past four years in a giant pit in the basement of an obsessive lover - a nod to "Silence of the Lambs."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>However, Sheen never appears once in the episode. Instead, viewers are introduced to the backside of a Sheen lookalike at the episode's end. Before he can turn around, a piano is dropped onto the lookalike, killing Sheen's character for good this time. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>The camera pans over to "Two and A Half Men" creator Chuck Lorre who turns to look at the camera and says "winning," a phrase that Sheen adopted while on his interview spree in 2011. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Right after, a second piano falls upon his head. <div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>It was a bizarre, strange ending to the 12-season series.Why bother to make an entire episode revolve around a character who was killed off four years ago when he's not going to make an appearance? Apparently, Lorre and the producers did want Sheen to come back and reprise his character.A title card at the end of the series from Lorre revealed Sheen was asked to come back for the finale. Here's the message that appeared on screen:<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Here's what it says in full:I know a lot of you might be disappointed that you didn't get to see Charlie Sheen in tonight's finale. For the record, he was offered a role. Our idea was to have him walk up to the front door in the last scene, ring the doorbell, then turn, look directly into the camera and go off on a maniacal rant about the dangers of drug abuse. He would then explain that these dangers only applied to average people. That he was far above average. He was a ninja warrior from Mars. He was invincible.And then we would drop a piano on him.We thought it was funny. He didn't. Instead, he wanted us to write a heart-warming scene that would set up his return to primetime TV in a new sitcom called The Harpers starring him and Jon Cryer.We thought that was funny too.In an <a href="http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/02/20/chuck-lorre-on-charlie-sheen-and-the-finale-of-two-and-a-half-men/?_r=1">interview for the New York Times</a>, Lorre said he never personally spoke with Sheen about inviting him to come back. He certainly understood there was a huge pent-up demand to see Charlie in the finale, and there would be creative closure in that. I wanted to make that happen, but it wasn't meant to be.We made what I know to be a sincere effort to include him in the finale, in a way that would give him a real featured moment, and a funny moment-a self-deprecating and outrageous moment. The final moment would have been his. He chose not to do it. That was an effort not to just give him what he wanted, but to give the fans of the show what they wanted. I'm not clear on what else I could have done. I wasn't about to turn creative control over the show to anybody, not at this point, not in the finale. I mean, why?Lorre was also asked whether he gave any consideration to Sheen's proposed ending for the series. "Not for a second," he said. "It just didn't feel appropriate for what we were doing."After watching the episode in its entirety, you kind of can't blame Sheen for not wanting to come back.The entire episode appears to be one giant dig at the actor.Throughout the finale, knocks were made at Sheen for his previous behavior. Without his appearance, <a href="http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2015/02/20/thursday-final-ratings-the-big-bang-theory-scandal-two-and-a-half-men-how-to-get-away-with-murder-adjusted-up/365727/">13.2 million</a> tuned in for the show's series finale.
