<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="20491" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Tiger-Woods">Tiger Woods</keyword> offered his caddie <keyword id="784386" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Joe-LaCava">Joe LaCava</keyword> the chance to work with another <keyword id="1226" type="SPORT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Golf">golf</keyword>er after Woods underwent his fourth back surgery and looked unable to play golf, according to ESPN.</li><li>LaCava turned down the opportunity and stuck with Woods.</li><li>According to ESPN, Woods was "generous" in supporting LaCava during the four years of on-again-off-again work.</li><li>Woods was recovering from another back surgery when he was recently involved in a car accident that left him with serious leg injuries.</li></ul><p>When Tiger Woods was at one of his lowest points, his caddie Joe LaCava stuck by him.</p><p>From 2014 to 2017, Woods underwent four back surgeries, making several comeback attempts, only to drop out of tournaments with ongoing physical ailments. He was also arrested on charges of driving under the influence of pain medications.</p><p><a href="https://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/26725913/tiger-was-done-joe-lacava-done-tiger">According to ESPN's Ian O'Connor</a>, in 2017, Woods offered LaCava the chance to caddie for someone else, believing he was done as a competitive golfer. LaCava refused, instead choosing to be loyal to Woods. LaCava believed Woods had more golf in him and would have wanted to return to Woods, even if he took another job, ESPN reported.</p><p>"It meant a lot to me," Woods told ESPN in 2019. "Joe could have left and had pretty much any bag that was available, his reputation is that solid. But he didn't. He hung in there with me. Joe's a great person and very loyal, and I appreciate it."</p><p>Over those four years, LaCava caddied for Woods only 24 times. LaCava told O'Connor that he passed the time with house projects, chores, and taking his children back and forth to college.</p><p>However, according to O'Connor, Woods was "generous" to the LaCava family during periods of inactivity.</p><p>"There were days I didn't like not doing anything," LaCava said. "When I say days it was months, maybe a year in [2017] where I said to myself, 'It sucks, because I feel like I need to work.'"</p><p>After Woods' huge win at the 2019 Masters, he and LaCava shared an emotional hug. Later in the night before going to bed, LaCava saw that Woods sent him a text message, he told O'Connor.</p><p>"Appreciate you hanging in there with me," it said. "I love you like a brother."</p><div type="image" title="tiger woods joe lacava masters" height="749" width="1500" msid="79181213" hostid="261"></div><h2>Woods and LaCava are in the midst of another long break</h2><p>Since March 2020, Woods played in only eight events because of the coronavirus pandemic, a fifth back surgery, and now, <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-injured-car-crash-hospitalized-jaws-of-life-rescue-2021-2">a car accident that left him with serious leg injuries</a>. </p><p>LaCava and Woods had one five-month break last year, during which LaCava said he mostly sat around.</p><p>"I haven't been doing much," <a href="https://www.bunkered.co.uk/golf-news/what-did-tiger-woods-caddie-do-during-lockdown-f-all">LaCava told the website Bunkered</a> in July. "I live in Connecticut and the weather was crummy, so, for the first two months with the virus, I was Netflix-bound. I watched them all. There's a big old dent in the couch."</p><p>He said he and Woods didn't speak much during that break.</p><p>"Haven't heard from him much. Probably exchanged two or three texts. I don't bother him, he doesn't bother me," he said.</p><p>Now the pair have another long break ahead of them. At one of Tiger Woods' lowest points, his caddie refused to take another job, and Woods rewarded him by continuing to pay him

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Tiger Woods' longtime caddie Joe LaCava has found a new bag.</li><li>LaCava is now looping for Patrick Cantlay, currently ranked No. 4 in the world.</li></ul><p>One of the most influential duos in the last decade of golf is breaking up.</p><p>Caddie Joe LaCava, who has carried the bag of <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/tiger-woods">Tiger Woods</a> since 2011, is taking up a new job, looping with No. 4 in the world Patrick Cantlay.</p><p><a href="https://golf.com/news/tiger-woods-caddie-joe-lacava-patrick-cantlay/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to Todd Lewis of Golf Channel</a>, the change is for "the foreseeable future."</p><p>Woods and LaCava <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-wins-majors">won 11 events together</a>, including <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-emotional-masters-photo-2019-4">Woods' miraculous victory at Augusta National</a> at the <a href="https://www.insider.com/category/masters-2019">2019 Masters</a>.</p><p>Through their time together, LaCava has stood by for Woods as he recovered from several sugeries and <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-shares-first-photo-since-car-accident-months-ago-2021-4">injuries</a>, never taking on another player's bag full-time despite undoubtedly having opportunities.</p><p>In 2018, LaCava expressed his feelings towards Tiger, and why it was worth it to stick with him through thick and thin.</p><p>"If I could live another 100 years I'd wait another 100 years. I was never going to not work for Tiger as long as he was going to have me," LaCava said. "I just wanted to work for him and no one else. "Obviously he's not retiring. But he's going to play two to six tournaments a year. Tiger and I have talked about if something were to come up, feel free to do something. 'I know how much you miss it, how much you love caddying.' And when this opportunity arose, I checked with Tiger. And he said, 'You're crazy not to take the job, go forward, go win some tournaments, go have a great time.'"</p><p>Cantlay and LaCava already had an established relationship, with LaCava on Cantlay's bag at The Northern Trust in 2021, where the duo finished T11.</p><p>Now it appears the partnership will look to grow on that finish, with this week's Wells Fargo Championship their first tournament together on a permanent basis.</p>

It was his first tournament since The Open in July and his first non-major event since <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-moved-hospitals-follow-up-procedures-after-car-crash-2021-2">a car accident at this tournament nearly ended his career in 2021</a>. </p><p>While Woods showed <a href="https://www.insider.com/tiger-woods-wins-majors-hates-losing">flashes of his old self with the golf clubs</a>, his best moment came with a marker. </p><p>Near the 17th green, 9-year-old Madelyn Quinn held up a sign with her bucket list. On the list was "Get heart transplant," which was already checked, followed by "Meet Tiger Woods" and "Play Augusta," the home of the Masters.</p><p>While Woods was waiting for his playing partners to finish the hole, he walked over to the sign with a marker, checked off the box next to his name, and gave her a signed glove. "And Tiger looked behind for a few seconds and stared at it and then got a Sharpie out from his pocket and started signing his glove ... My heart started pounding. I was getting the chills. I'm like, Is this a dream, is this real? This couldn't be happening right now. I was just staring at him, and I was speechless. I didn't know what to say."</p><p>Madelyn had a heart transplant at age 1 and has endured several other heart surgeries. Now she is a pretty good golfer in her own right. The daughter of a former teaching pro, she plays daily and plays nine holes in 38 to 40 strokes.</p><p>As for Woods, he made the cut but finished tied for 45th at 1-under par, 16 strokes behind the winner, Jon Rahm.</p><p>The tournament also drew some criticisms of Woods for a little display of casual misogyny in the form of a practical joke.</p><p>During the tournament's opening round, Woods was playing with his good friend, Justin Thomas. It was just we play pranks on one another all the time, and virally I think this did not come across that way, but between us, it was – it's different."</p>

"He asked, 'Do you think Tiger will be OK with that? I was like, 'Of course he would. He's got a sense of humor.'"</p><p>LaCava added: "Tiger shows up about a half-hour later and is looking for some high-fives from everybody and they wouldn't give him the time of day. He's looking for 11 guys to run up and give him a good hug."</p><p>The "cold shoulder" prank did not last long, and the Ryder Cup team did eventually join Woods in celebration after a couple of minutes of anguish.</p><p>It is unclear whether Woods will retaliate in kind, <a href="https://www.golf.com/tour-and-news/2018/09/26/tiger-woods-prank-us-team-ryder-cup/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">but as Golf.com reports</a>, "you can expect more hijinks throughout the week because nothing is better for team bonding."</p><p>The 2018 Ryder Cup takes place between 28 and 30 September at Le Golf National in Guyancourt, France. After making par on his first two holes and birdie at the third, Woods picked up two straight bogeys on Nos. 4 and 5, dropping him three behind Molinari.</p><p><a href="http://www.espn.com/golf/story/_/id/26525661/how-tiger-made-earth-shake-again-masters">According to ESPN's Ian O'Connor</a>, after the second bogey, Woods' caddie, Joe LaCava, cursed at Woods for some sloppy play. Then, Woods himself retreated into a bathroom and privately cursed himself out.</p><p>However, according to O'Connor, when Woods went back on the course, he reflected on LaCava's advice earlier in the day.</p><p><span>"Never lose the tenseness, but be loose out there. Don't carry the weight of the world on your shoulders," LaCava reportedly told Woods.</span></p><p><span>Woods regrouped in a major way. He made par or birdie on his next four holes. He had another bogey on 10, but had three more birdies on his next six holes, including two huge birdies on 15 and 16.</span></p><p><span>Woods had some help, too. Four golfers hit the water on 12, giving him the window he needed. Woods actually bogeyed the hole, when his would-be tournament-winning putt rimmed out. Arnold Palmer once lost the Masters when he double-bogeyed on the final hole. Woods had to avoid that fate.</p><p><span>Woods told himself, according to O'Connor: "Just keep it together. Keep focused. Commit."</span></p><p><span>He sank the putt. He was 41. His 13-year-old daughter <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kobe-bryants-daughter-gianna-gigi-bryant-killed-helicopter-accident-2020-1">Gianna "Gigi" Bryant also died in the crash</a>.</p><p>Woods said fans were chanting "Do it for Mamba," a reference to Bryant's nickname "The Black Mamba" at Woods during his round, but he didn't understand the reference.</p><p>Woods told CBS that he had only learned of Bryant's death after he finished his round.</p><p>"I didn't know until [Woods' caddie Joe LaCava] told me coming off the 18th green," Woods said. "I didn't really understand why the people in the gallery were saying, 'Do it for Mamba.' But now I understand. It's a shocker for everyone. Unbelievably sad, and one of the more tragic days. For me, the reality is kind of just setting in because I was told just five minutes ago."</p><p>Woods is a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers and had a relationship with Bryant. He credited Bryant's competitiveness and skill on both ends of the floor.</p><p>Later, while speaking to a group of reporters, Woods reflected more on his relationship with Bryant, saying that while they worked out together, they connected more on the "mental side" of their sports.</p><p>"We really connected more on the mental side of it. The prep. How much it takes to be prepared," Woods said (<a href="https://twitter.com/JeffEisenband/status/1221574202462998536">via MSG Network's Jeff Eisenband</a>. "For me, I don't have to react like he does. In my sport, we can take our time. But you still have to pay attention to the details. And that's what he did, better than probably any other player in NBA history. He paid attention to the details. The little things."</p><p>Woods also praised Bryant's dedication to working on his game.</p><p>"The amount of hours he spent in the gym in the offseason during the summers to work on shots and do all the different things. It looked like it came natural to him on the court, during game time, but he spent more hours looking at film and trying to figure out the best way to become better, and that's where he and I really connected. We were very similar."</p><p>Woods added, "It's shocking."</p><p>After news of Bryant's death, people across the world, from <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kobe-bryant-death-prompts-reactions-from-across-sports-world-2020-1">athletes</a> to celebrities to politicians to business figures paid tribute to Bryant.</p><p>Though the NBA did not cancel Sunday's slate of games, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/video-raptors-spurs-24-second-shot-clock-honor-kobe-bryant-2020-1">many teams paid tribute to Bryant</a> with a moment of silence and opening 24-second shot-clock violations and 8-second backcourt violations, a reference to Bryant's jersey numbers.</p><ul class="read-more-links"><li>Read more:</li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kobe-bryant-insane-work-ethic-2013-8">Kobe Bryant was known for his intense work ethic. <img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5e62f386fee23d38e439ef54-2400/remoteworker.jpg" alt="remoteworker" /><p class="source"><span>Joe Giddens/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Remote workers set up shop on dining room tables and couches.</p><ul class="summary-list"><li>Employees sent home due to the coronavirus outbreak now work in isolation as opportunitstic hackers use the crisis in phishing email attacks. </li><li>Widespread email attacks urgently cite the virus - some 10% of Italian organizations got a fraudulent emailing claiming to be from health officials, researchers find.</li><li>Offers from tech companies of free web-conferencing, including Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Slack, adds to fast adoption of platforms that hackers can target, IT pros say. </li><li>It's more difficult to remain diligent at home when it comes to where you surf online, how you use social networks, and what devices you use, experts say. </li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/?hprecirc-bullet">Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories</a>.</li></ul><p>As workers around the world hunker down to work from home during the coronavirus outbreak, they receive convincing fraudulent emails urgently citing the health crisis, use new work tools they may not have used remotely before, and struggle to remain conscientious in how they use instant messaging, social media, mobile devices, and personal emails.</p><p>Hackers are exploiting the situation to target those workers, and cybersecurity pros are just trying to catch up.  </p><p>Tech companies including Facebook, Amazon, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Google have asked at least some of their employees to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-virus-everything-we-know-deadly-2019-ncov-wuhan-spread-2020-1">work from home</a> amid the outbreak. San Francisco-based Salesforce asked its California employees to work remotely through March. </p><p>Only half of small business owners have updated their companies' remote work security guidelines in the past year, Nationwide Insurance found in a survey of 400 small-business owners in June. Just 4% have implemented all of the <a href="https://www.sba.gov/business-guide/manage-your-business/small-business-cybersecurity#section-header-5">cybersecurity best practices</a> and recommendations from the U.S. Small Business Administration.</p><p>"Users in a telecommuting situation often cut corners in order to stay productive, such as using public cloud file-sharing and other services. All of these behaviors increase corporate cybersecurity risks," says Craig LaCava, an executive with Optiv Security, a Denver-based company that helps large global companies integrate cybersecurity tools.</p><p>Mark Ostroski, an evangelist at Check Point Security, said the current situation collides two very difficult problems:</p><p>"One, people do take liberties when they work from home. They're not always as diligent. It's not once or twice a week right now. This could be weeks or months. We don't know. And two, malicious entities are targeting folks because of the situation across the globe, and we only see it increasing in the next few weeks." </p><h2>Be very careful what you click in any unfamiliar message</h2><p>Remote workers may be more vulnerable to work emails disguised as urgent messages from senior staff about the virus, says Curtis Simpson, former chief information security officer of Sysco Foods and current CISO of the Silicon Valley cybersecuity company Armis. Such attacks, "preying on the heartstrings and panic of individuals around the world, will spike exponentially in coming days, weeks, and months," Simpson says.</p><p>The FBI reported $1.7 billion in losses last year from phishing attacks, the cybercrime in which hackers drop malicious links or attachments into emails or other communications sent fraudulently as company or official information. And that was before the virus outbreak, which brings new exploits.</p><p>Check Point Security, an Israeli cybersecurity firm, <a href="https://blog.checkpoint.com/2020/03/05/update-coronavirus-themed-domains-50-more-likely-to-be-malicious-than-other-domains/">tracked a phishing email</a> disguised as a World Health Organization message about the coronavirus that reached 10% of all organizations in Italy, the hardest-hit nation in Europe, where 233 people have died from the virus. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-virus-everything-we-know-deadly-2019-ncov-wuhan-spread-2020-1">More than 110,000 people</a> have been infected and more than 3,800 have died worldwide. The US has reported 21 deaths.</p><h2>Hackers 'go where the action is'</h2><p>As workplace tools have expanded, so have cybersecurity vulnerabilities, which are worse when employees are isolated at home, says Otavio Freire, chief technical officer and cofounder of SafeGuard Cyber, a Virginia-based company that protects workplace communications channels.</p><p>"For example, without the right security measures in place, a bad actor can easily impersonate a remote employee" and introduce malware into your company's network, Freire said. "Knowing that more critical enterprise work will be conducted via these channels, hackers will focus more time, energy and effort to exploit them - they go where the action is."</p><p>Remote platforms say they offer best practices and their own protections. Microsoft says its Teams collaboration platform "is built on hyper-scale, enterprise-grade Microsoft cloud, delivering advanced security and compliance capabilities to customers." The company suggests <a href="https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/microsoft-teams-blog/4-tips-for-working-from-home-with-microsoft-teams/ba-p/1202083">this blog post </a>for tips on working remotely with its Teams coworking platform. The instant messaging platform Slack suggested users see these <a href="https://slack.com/intl/en-in/help/articles/115004155306-Security-tips-to-protect-your-workspace">security tips</a>, such as two-factor authentication, to make it harder for phishers and other bad guys to get in to your account.</p><h2>Go home and use new tools for free</h2><p>In response to the health crisis, companies have offered free use of their remote collaboration tools. One of those firms, <a href="https://blog.webex.com/video-conferencing/cisco-webex-supporting-customers-during-this-unprecedented-time/">Cisco, said </a>use of its Webex video conferencing among users in China shot up by as much as 22 times since the outbreak began. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/microsoft-teams-coronavirus-free-trial-remote-work-2020-3">Microsoft offered customers</a> and partners free six-month trials of the premium version of its Teams chat app in response to the virus outbreak.  </p><p>With all that use comes cracks in the security. Last week <a href="https://threatpost.com/high-severity-cisco-webex-flaws-fixed/153462/">Cisco addressed a Webex vulnerability</a> that could have allowed a phishing link to reach Webex users. The company said it addressed the problem quickly and honestly. "Cisco is committed to transparency. When security issues arise, we handle them openly."   </p><p>Instant messaging and texts are also being exploited by hackers. The South Korean government has warned the public of an estimated 10,000 "smishing attempts" - scam text messages - seeking to spread misinformation about the novel coronavirus outbreak, <a href="https://www.zdnet.com/article/south-korea-sees-rise-in-smishing-with-coronavirus-misinformation/">ZDNet reports.</a></p><p>"New platforms are just as easy for criminals to exploit, but we don't have as many tools to secure them yet," says Timothy Sewell, chief technical officer of Reveal Risk, an Indianapolis company that provides cybersecurity services to other firms. "It's really stressing many organizations. Now they have this event causing them to move much faster than they intended to."</p><p>Sewell recently received a smishing text supposedly offering him a free coronavirus test because of where he went to college. "I had to look at it twice.
