Reliance cuts JioPhone price to ₹699 bundled with free data worth ₹700

He said the deposit will be refunded after three years, making the JioPhone free for the customers. As per the latest development, it is likely that Reliance may roll out a partial refund of the security deposit before the three-year lock-in period. The pre-booking of 4G feature phone, rolled out by <keyword id="6354504" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="reliance-jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>, will begin from August 24 and as per various reports, the telecom operator is mulling over partial roll out scheme. Reportedly, Jio may announce the terms of the refund scheme in the next few days. Reliance Jio is considering whether the refund policy and additional monthly tariff of Rs 153 would be attractive enough for users to switch to JioPhone or not. Elaborating the offering, the statement said that a JioPhone user recharging with Rs 75 plan, will get an additional Rs 75 plan absolutely free. Jio might cut corners for the smartphone While the ₹1,500 JioPhone helped the telco gain users, its user experience is low with overall build quality and lack of memory. The upcoming budget 4G smartphones may face the same fate if the company cuts corners to cut costs and bring down the price. The phone may have a sub-standard display and poor battery quality. A decent 4G smartphone still costs more than ₹7,000, so it remains to be seen if Jio can bring that price down to under ₹3,000 without any major quality compromises. Mukesh Ambani plans to offer ₹3,000 smartphone to hit his 500 million subscriber target

New Delhi, Apr 14 () Sector regulator Trai on Tuesday asked all telcos, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, to provide data on recharge patterns of prepaid users during the lockdown, and other related information.Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has sought response on the issue in 24 hours, sources told .The communication from the regulator has gone to all operators, including state owned telecom companies, sources said, adding that once the response is received, the regulator will finalise its views on the manner in which prepaid benefits should be extended, given that the lockdown has been extended to May 3.The sources said details sought from telcos include the number of subscribers who have benefited from validity extension and talktime credit -- announced recently. Data has also been sought on number of subscribers who were unable to recharge during the lockdown.Vodafone Idea had earlier announced extension of validity on prepaid plans availed by low-income customers using feature phones till April 17, and Rs 10 talktime credit, while Bharti Airtel too had offered extension in the validity period of over 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited Rs 10 talk time in these accounts.Reliance Jio had offered its JioPhone users 100 minutes of free talktime and 100 free SMS till April 17, and their incoming calls would continue even post validity of their pre-paid vouchers.The telecom industry had, however, rejected Trai's call for extending benefits of talktime credit and extended validity to all pre-paid mobile phone users. New Delhi, Apr 17 () Reliance Jio has introduced a new system to enable its subscribers to recharge the account of any customer on its network through a mobile app and also earn around 4 per cent commission. The development comes at a time when many people are unable to recharge their phones due to the lockdown. Telecom regulator Trai has been pushing service providers to extend the validity of all prepaid connections during the period. Reliance Jio has launched the JioPOS Lite app on Google Play store, from where a customer can download it and start recharging the phone of any subscriber on its network. "There is a joining fee of Rs 1,000 but the company has waived it off as an introductory offer. Jio customers downloading this app will have to load a minimum of Rs 1,000 for the first time and thereafter they can load recharge for sale for a minimum value of Rs 200," a source told . The app has recorded over 5 lakh downloads till date. The source said this will give Jio customers a comfortable option to get their phones recharged even if shops are not opened during the lockdown period. The government has extended the lockdown period till May 3 to check the spread of the coronavirus. Private telecom operators had earlier extended the validity of prepaid accounts till April 17 to support people at the bottom of the pyramid stay connected during the lockdown. Vodafone Idea had announced extension of validity on prepaid plans availed by low-income customers using feature phones till April 17 and Rs 10 talktime credit. Bharti Airtel too had offered extension in the validity period of over 8 crore pre-paid connections until April 17 as well as credited Rs 10 talktime in these accounts. The two telcos have fought for the top spot to become the number one telecom operator in the country but now it seems like the two are busy fighting it out to gain the position of ‘the most affordable smartphone’ in India. Airtel today announced yet another partnership with smartphone maker <keyword id="1087300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Celkon">Celkon</keyword> to offer 4G smartphone at Rs. 1349. Reliance Jio had announced its Jio phone earlier this year at a famously “effectively free” price of Rs. 1499 wherein customers will have to pay for the services only for a fixed period of three years. Competing directly with the Jio phone, under Jio’s “India ka smartphone” campaign, Airtel’s partnership is part of ‘Mera Pehla Smartphone’ initiative where Airtel plans to collaborate with device manufacturers to bring smartphones at the price of a feature phone. The Report suggests that Reliance Jio has stopped the production of its VoLTE feature phone and is now planning to launch an Android smartphone. The JioPhone runs KaiOS and came packed with all of Jio’s own apps including JioChat, JioMusic, JioTV, Jio Cinema and others. The OS does not support many of the widely used apps such as <keyword id="6354576" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="facebook">Facebook</keyword>, WhatsApp and others. But this walled garden approach did not really work for Jio as these apps have been extremely popular with the consumers. The new OS will improve how users connect and bring better sync across Apple’s devices, making it a great update for users having iPad and iPhone. Here are all the new features that will be available with the latest macOS. Universal Control This feature will allow users to use the same input hardware such as mouse or keyboard to be used across Apple’s devices such as Macs and iPad. Users would be able to use Mac’s trackpad to navigate seamlessly on their iPads. This will not require any setup and users can just drag and drop files across their devices by just aligning them next to each other. However, this interesting feature has not yet been released and would be available with its future updates. Another feature, SharePlay, that allows users to co-watch and listen with friends will also be available in the future update. FaceTime Apple is bringing spatial audio support, voice isolation, wide spectrum and background blurring feature to FaceTime. The voice isolation feature can prevent background noise in the audio, while the wide spectrum can be used to hear the chatter during meetings. The spatial audio will allow users to hear audio of people in 3D and if a person is sitting far away from their system it will make it sound like they are away. AirPlay Users will now be able to use AirPlay across devices as they can just play a track or video on their iPhone or iPad and use their Mac or MacBook as speakers or for video output only. Shortcuts Shortcuts feature that was earlier available only on iOS has now come to Macs with the latest OS. It will allow users to automate everyday tasks, and trigger them via Siri’s voice support. Safari 15 The Safari 15 browser will be available with a new design as users will see compact tabs, a refined toolbar and they will be able to use tab groups. This will be beneficial for users to use plenty of tabs at one time. Users will be able to save their tabs and access them across their Apple devices and the changes across devices will also be in sync. Focus The Focus feature will allow users to take a break from their activities. This will turn off notifications depending on the user’s activities and it will display only the important ones. Once the Focus mode is on, it will be mirrored across all Apple devices. Users can also set their status for other people to know that they would not want to be interrupted. New Delhi, Jun 24 () Reliance Jio would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India based on the market dynamics, Reliance Industries said in its latest annual report. On the issue of floor price for mobile services, the company noted that market dynamics have improved in the recent past as reflected by December tariff hikes by operators. The government has also expressed its intentions of conducting the next round of spectrum auctions during the fiscal year 2020-21, it said. "Jio with its 5G-ready network and extensive fiber assets, would play a key role in the development of the 5G ecosystem in India, based on market dynamics," the annual report stated. In his letter to shareholders, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that there are still millions of 2G phone users, who cannot use internet, highlighting urgent need for India to transition fully from 2G to the 4G era and beyond, and underlining the opportunity Jio has in such transformation. "Over the past two years, JioPhone has successfully transitioned approximately 100 million erstwhile feature phone (2G) users to the 4G network," he said. Ambani noted that Jio's success in building technology specifically for India and its ability to proliferate across the country has attracted global technology leaders – Facebook and Microsoft - to forge partnerships with it. Reliance Jio continues to add subscribers at a rate unprecedented in the telecom world with 387.5 million mobile data subscribers (as of March 31, 2020), Ambani said. Describing Jio as a key catalyst in creating the broadband data market in India, he said it is now the number one mobile telecom operator in the country by both adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and subscribers. Reliance Jio is rolling out its state-of-the-art wireline services across homes and enterprises, he said adding all this will help place a strong foundation for offering platform-based digital services. According to the report, Jio connected about one million homes with JioFiber services until March 2020. Ambani further said that rollout of the digital commerce initiative will open up further growth opportunities for the organised retail business, leveraging the strength of consumer and digital platforms. "Reliance Retail and WhatsApp have entered into a commercial partnership agreement to further accelerate Reliance Retail's Digital Commerce business on the JioMart platform using WhatsApp and to support small businesses on WhatsApp," he said. Further, Jio said that market dynamics have improved in the recent past, as reflected by tariff hikes in December 2019, where all the operators revised their tariff plans upwards by up to 40 per cent. "During the year, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has also initiated consultation process on feasibility of establishing a floor price for mobility services in the country," it said, adding that Jio would continue to actively engage with the regulator and industry stakeholders to drive growth for all. On the issue of call connect charges, where interconnect usage charge (IUC) would be reduced to zero with effect from January 1, 2021, Jio said it accordingly introduced a charge of 6 paise/minute on all off-net outgoing voice minutes to pass through the impact of change in regulatory stance on IUC in October 2019. "This has led to a significant improvement in voice traffic mix as misusers of free voice services have left the network and Jio is now a net receiver of IUC. Jio continues to believe that transition to the BAK (Bill and Keep) regime will hasten the adoption of more efficient technologies like VoLTE, which have negligible cost for carrying and servicing essential voice services," RIL said. In the recent months, Reliance Industries has secured over Rs 1.15 lakh crore from global tech investors including Facebook by selling a tad less than a quarter of its digital business and raised Rs 53,124 crore by selling shares to existing investors in the past days.
