This will put Jio in direct competition with ACT broadband services, one of the most popular options in India right now. ACT, which is currently India’s largest fiber-based service provider, is also planning a ₹800 crore IPO soon. Jio Phone 3 The AGM is also set to see the launch of Jio Phone 3. The previous two models which were priced at ₹1,500 and ₹2,999 have already been a big hit in the market, for giving smartphone features to a user at the most basic price. Jio Phone 3 is expected to take the features up a notch at an equally affordable price. Can Gigafiber do a Jio? The launch of Gigafiber will be a big boom in the Indian broadband industry because of lower tariffs and higher internet speeds. It is expected to have the same impact that Jio did when it launched. As per the report, the company is ready to launch its fixed broadband services commercially in the next three months. They are also known to have already launched pilot versions in some areas. This is helpful since telecom companies do not have to acquire permission for ‘right of way’ to lay the fibre. This not only reduces cost but is also eliminates the painful process of wire laying. FTTH, unlike wireless business, is a future-proof business, and a one-time investment. It means that Jio will not have to keep leasing spectrum to sustain this business. Moreover, it can reach congested and remotely located areas easily. The fixed broadband subscriber base currently uses copper connectivity for last mile connectivity and was at 18 million as on April 30, 2019. Claims of zero-latency Both, Google Stadio and Jio Console claim to provide an experience with zero latency — no delays. For serious gamers, this is probably the most enticing part of the formula. Zero latency means no lags between frames, better reaction times, and a higher chance of success against players who are stuck on a network with high latency. It may not seem like much but for racing and shooter games, where timing is key, but it can make the difference between winning or losing at a crucial moment. Despite the claims by both companies, they are yet to prove 100% seamless gameplay with accurate tests. Filling in the blanks There isn’t too much that has been disclosed by either company when it comes to their gaming platforms. They both claim that any controller can be used with their respective platforms. Nonetheless, Google still plans on launching its own controller, which will come equipped with the Google Assistant and claims to reduce latency even further. Both platforms are also claiming that they will be able to stream content in 4K quality, with Google planning to upgrade to an 8K resolution in the future. Mukesh Ambani plans to connect a billion devices on his IoT platform — and he isn't only talking about light bulbs

<ul><li>Reliance has closed 26 <keyword id="6391790" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="deals">deals</keyword> in the last 24 months, nearly half of which have been in the telecom and media space. </li><li>The new businesses span from music streaming apps to cable networks to telecom software and hardware units. </li><li>Out of a total investment spend of $5.3 billion in the last five years, a staggering 79% has been allocated towards deals in the telecom sector, according to data compiled by Morgan Stanley. </li></ul><keyword id="6355199" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword>’ (RIL) mergers and acquisitions division has had a pretty busy go of it as of late. In the last 24 months, the company, India’s largest by market capitalisation, has closed 26 deals. Of the 26, 15 deals have contributed the most both in terms of deal value as well as in redefining RIL as a company. Some of the new businesses bought over by RIL span from a media production house to music streaming apps to cable networks to telecom software and hardware units. These 15 deals include a currently-stalled bid to buy Reliance Communication’s spectrum and the sale of <a href="https://in.reuters.com/article/reliance-shale/reliance-sells-texas-shale-assets-for-100-million-idINKBN1H31MS">two energy assets</a>, which were part of the company’s mainstay business up until then. Up until a few years ago, RIL was a predominantly an energy major. While oil refining and petrochemicals remain the cash generating units, Ambani is expanding his empire with an eye on future. As he has often said in the recent past, “data is the new oil.” Out of a total investment spend of $5.3 billion in the last five years, a staggering 79% has been allocated towards deals in the telecom sector, according to data compiled by Morgan Stanley. The rerating of the company, as a technology and consumer play, though on the cards, will be a gradual process that will happen over the next few years, Vinod Sharma, head of capital markets strategy and the private clients group at HDFC Securities <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/energy/oil-gas/why-mukesh-ambani-led-ril-needs-to-be-viewed-as-a-tech-and-consumer-player/articleshow/66395674.cms">told</a> the Economic Times. The reduced competition in the space is expected to hurt broadcasters, who will have lesser negotiating power when it comes to finalising subscription revenue packages. The deal will help Reliance Jio build its 5G and Internet-of-Things capability. Reliance’s bid to boost its technology offerings is also indicated in deals with smaller amounts. It’s taking a bet on relatively nascent companies and technologies as part of a larger plan to integrate complementary services under its telecom and media business - becoming a software developer and hardware manufacturer in the process. However, <keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>’s lifeline to his brother Anil <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/mukesh-ambanis-reliance-jio-decides-that-it-may-be-too-expensive-to-give-brother-anil-ambanis-rcom-a-lifeline-after-all/articleshow/67174546.cms">was suspended </a>at the end of last year as Reliance Jio refused to accept liability for RCom’s existing spectrum dues. Meanwhile, Reliance has spent an additional $566 million on acquisitions in the media space. In March 2018, the company signed a deal to acquire a 41% stake in <keyword id="2060236" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saavn">Saavn</keyword>, a music streaming service, in lieu of a subsequent launch of its <a href="https://www.livemint.com/Companies/A8xcuttXuN3NebrDwPsqVN/Reliance-Jio-and-Saavn-integrate-to-launch-JioSaavn-app.html">own streaming platform</a>. In February 2018, it bought <a href="https://variety.com/2018/biz/asia/mukesh-ambani-reliance-industries-take-eros-1202704828/">a 5% stake in Eros</a>, an Indian film distributor and production company, for around $150 million. In July 2017, Reliance also bought a 25% stake in Balaji Telefilms for $64 million. The deals are aimed at the production and distribution of content for Jio subscribers. Aside from these deals, Reliance’s existing retail business is also in the process of expansion, ahead of a possible IPO. And Ambani is making serious moves in this space too, with the recently announced foray into e-commerce. The company plans to increase its store count of Trends fashion stores nearly five times <a href="https://www.livemint.com/companies/news/reliance-retail-plans-major-expansion-of-reliance-trends-in-e-commerce-push-1552039531473.html">to 2,500 outlets by 2024.</a> Very soon, it may be difficult for any one sector analyst to evaluate the company. The two telecom players are now edging each other out in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=broadbands&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">broadband services</a>, where both <keyword id="15491" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Airtel">Airtel</keyword> and Reliance are banking on fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, commonly known as <keyword id="2994084" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="home-broadband">home broadband</keyword>.

Airtel’s fibre tech is based on European standard Vectorisation technology, which can deliver speeds of up to 100 Mbps in a multi-device or Wi-Fi environment. Airtel is number one in this space and is extending its fixed-line broadband presence in tier-1 cities, ahead of Jio's rollout, with an unlimited three-month free trial offer to new customers. 
 
Whereas, Reliance Jio has now begun with FTTH network dubbed as GigaFiber broadband and is offering services free till March 31, with a 100 Mbps data speed in select residential areas of Chennai, Pune and Mumbai regions. 
 
Deployed by Chinese gear maker Huawei, Airtel has commercially launched V-Fiber-based broadband services in eight cities that include Chennai, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Indore and Bhopal. It has plans to launch it in Delhi-NCR soon. 
 
Rohan Dhamija, head for India and South Asia at Analysys Mason, told ET home broadband makes sense for service operators only in high average revenue per user (ARPU) clusters in large cities. 
 
"FTTH makes a business case for high ARPU geographical clusters such as highrise residential buildings, while in India, overhead cabling is also done to address the existing right-ofway (RoW) challenges to accelerate such deployments,” he told ET. 
 
India's home broadband penetration is significantly low with only about 18 million connections and both the top telcos, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio, have stiff competition with local rivals such as Hathway, Spectranet, Tikona and Nextra Teleservices.
