The merger deal will create a big entity and help it to stay in the market at a "significant level", said Iger at a Morgan Stanley investor conference earlier this week. "We had an opportunity to align with Reliance, which is obviously the company that has done very well there and one that we respect. And in doing so, end up owning part of a bigger media company. And we believe that, that not only should benefit us in terms of the bottom-line, but derisk us as well there," he said. Last month, Walt Disney Co. and Reliance Industries announced signing of binding pacts to merge their media operations in India. Under the deal, Reliance and its affiliates will hold 63.16 per cent and Disney will have 36.84 per cent in the JV, which will create India's leading media company that will house two streaming services and around 120 television channels. "We wanted to stay in India. We made a big investment in India when we purchased the assets of 21st Century Fox. We are one of the biggest media companies in India. But even though it is the most populous country in the world, we felt we want to be there because of that, we also know that there are challenges in that market," he said. Iger said, the merger will create a big entity and help it to stay in the market at a "significant level". "So, it's kind of the best of both worlds. We stay in the market at a significant level. We have a very good partner in Reliance, and we get to have a chance of growing a business and lowering the risk of doing so," he added. The transaction values the joint venture at Rs 70,352 crore (USD 8.5 billion) on a post-money basis, excluding synergies. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance has also agreed to invest at closing Rs 11,500 crore into the joint venture to give it the muscle to fight rivals such as Japan's Sony, and Netflix. Its OTT platform Disney + Hotstar has seen its paid subscriber base decline from around 55 million to 40 million in the first quarter of FY24 because of Reliance's <keyword id="19985346" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jio-cinema" source="keywords">Jio Cinema</keyword> winning exclusive rights for live sports. The combined entity will have the largest OTT subscriber base. Disney + Hotstar was launched in India in 2020, post the acquisition of the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox at a valuation of USD 71.3 billion, thereby taking over the operations of Star India and Hotstar. It housed entertainment and cinema channels such as StarPlus and StarGold as well as sports channels like Star Sports. While Disney + Hotstar rapidly increased its subscriber base initially with the streaming rights of cricket matches (IPL, World Cup), it lost the bid for the digital streaming rights in 2023-27 cycle, which was won by Reliance-backed Viacom18 for USD 720 billion, 12.92 per cent higher than what Star India had paid on an average per match value. Media ventures of Reliance are currently housed in Network 18, which owns TV18 news channels as well as a plethora of entertainment (under the 'Colors' brand) and sports channels. NW18 also has stakes in moneycontrol.com, bookmyshow and publishes magazines. NW18 owns news channels CNBC/CNNNews. Merger with Reliance would boost company's profits and reduce risk in India: Disney CEO Bob Iger

Jio-bp is a joint venture between Mukesh Ambani-led <keyword id="6355199" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="reliance-industries" source="Orion">Reliance Industries</keyword> and British oil giant BP that was announced in 2020. The partnership between Hero Electric and Jio-bp will allow the automaker’s customers access to the latter’s charging and battery swapping infrastructure. “In addition to creating solutions for seamless customer journey on Hero Electric and Jio-bp apps, both companies will bring the best of their global learnings in electrification and apply them to the Indian market to create a differentiated customer experience that delights the consumer,” Hero Electric said in a statement. Jio-bp currently has battery charging and swapping stations across the country under the Jio-bp pulse brand. Customers can find nearby stations using the Jio-bp pulse app. Hero Electric currently has over 750 sales and service outlets across the country and has sold over 4.5 lakh electric two-wheelers. “Hero is committed to delivering the best electric mobility solutions to its consumers and this association will fasten the EV growth in the country while strengthening Hero Electric’s vision to transform the e-mobility sector in India,” Hero added. No one writes postcards anymore. The range and depth of Relianceverse It’s not just metaverse or virtual reality that the group is banking on – the sheer number of acquisitions and interest that it has in startups has turned its interests into a mini Relianceverse. While they have acquired interests in over 20 companies since 2019. The ticket size of these acquisitions range from $2 million to $200 million from Sankhya Sutra Labs to Dunzo, respectively. The companies belong to niche specializations – from fluid dynamics software simulation software VR imaging to ERP and SaaS companies, e-commerce companies, creative home solutions to AI powered learning platforms. The latest acquisitions however pertain to lithium and sodium battery solutions as the group ventures into green hydrogen. According to a Bank of America research report, the historical M&amp;As show a pattern – they all were done to add value or fill gaps in RIL’s consumer offerings where management believed it was difficult to build in-house. “All investments fall under five categories– telecom, retail, education, healthcare, and agriculture. A new category of clean-energy was added in 2020-21 where further investments were made with an intention of getting access to clean-tech,” the report said. This BoFA rule however exceptions – the luxury hotel of Mandarin Oriental in New York for $98 million, UK based hotel StokePark for $79 million, SkyTran a clean tech podcar transport system based in the US, and also a smaller acquisition of IMG Reliance, an event management company for $7 million. Jio is slowing down in the race to 500 million subscribers – a goal set by none other than Mukesh Ambani

New Delhi, Dec 23 () Reliance Jio on Monday announced '2020 Happy New Year offer' as part of which it will offer smartphone customers one year of "unlimited services" for Rs 2,020.
 Reliance Jio's limited period offer will be available from December 24 to first week of January, sources said, adding that the offer is for smartphone as well as JioPhone users.
 In case of smartphone customers, the offer packs in 1.5 GB data per day, and unlimited voice calls within the Jio network. For calls to other networks, a Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 12,000 minutes will be applicable. Subscription to Jio apps will be complimentary.
 Sources said Jiophone users will get a new JioPhone alongwith 12 months of unlimited services for Rs 2,020. Jio will offer 0.5 GB data per day for such users.

In comparison, Morgan Stanley estimates this number to be at 14 million. The recently announced telecom relief package is also likely to delay the tariff hikes, so Reliance Jio’s average revenue per user (ARPU) recovery is likely to remain stunted. “With the relief package reducing the urgency around tariff hikes, we now build-in significant price increases only in 2H 2022 [second half of 2022] versus early 2022 previously,” IIFL noted in its report. Reliance Jio is expected to lag Airtel in terms of revenue growth due to the absence of tariff hikes, something that Airtel has recently done in certain segments. Despite this, the telco is expected to post an EBITDA growth (Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortisation) of 5-7% when compared to the previous quarter, according to a Jefferies report. Morgan Stanley pegs this number at 5%, with moderate growth in ARPU at 1.5%, or approximately ₹140. Reliance Jio’s September earnings to be driven by aggressive subscriber additions

<ul><li><keyword id="10926" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance" source="Orion">Reliance</keyword> is expanding its partnerships with automakers to utilise its <keyword id="6434384" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="electric-charging-infrastructure" source="Orion">electric charging infrastructure</keyword>. </li><li>After TVS Motor, Reliance’s Jio-bp has now teamed up with <keyword id="5287148" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mg-motor" source="Orion">MG Motor</keyword> to allow MG car owners to charge their vehicles across <keyword id="6447142" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="castrol" source="Orion">Castrol</keyword>’s auto service network. </li><li>Jio-bp has also set up two large EV charging facilities – in Mumbai and Delhi. </li></ul>Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries has announced a partnership with British carmaker MG Motor and Castrol, a British oil company, to expand electric charging infrastructure across India. The partnership will see the three companies leverage Castrol’s existing auto service network, thereby giving Reliance a presence across the electric charging network, Castrol another revenue stream and allow MG Motor car owners to charge their cars. Jio-bp and Castrol will also work together to expand the oil company’s auto service network to charge four-wheeler EVs, which will likely require facility upgrades. This will also allow Castrol an opportunity to service electric cars. “The partnership is in line with Jio-bp and MG Motor's commitment to provide vast and reliable charging infrastructure to electric car customers and accelerating EV adoption in India,” the joint statement issued by Jio-bp and MG Motor said. Reliance, MG Motor and Castrol team up to build electric charging infrastructure across India

<ul><li><keyword id="6354504" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-jio">Reliance Jio</keyword>’s subscriber mix is holding back the amount of money it makes from each user.</li><li>Despite India facing the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic in the previous quarter, Reliance Jio has reported over 44% profit growth.</li><li>During the June quarter, Jio added 42.3 million new subscribers, continuing its upward trajectory from the March quarter.</li><li>However, its average revenue per user (ARPU) remains an area of concern – it stood at ₹138.4, which is flat when compared to the previous quarter, and marginally down, year-on-year.</li></ul>India’s leading telecom operator Reliance Jio posted a nearly 45% growth in its profit despite India bearing the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic between April and June this year.
