The domestic equity market continued to make gains, tracking global cues which are strengthening after the recent drop in values of shares of <keyword id="48085" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="credit-suisse" source="Orion">Credit Suisse</keyword> and bankruptcy of <keyword id="630197" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley-bank" source="Orion">Silicon Valley Bank</keyword>. BSE <keyword id="6484188" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="sensex" source="Orion">Sensex</keyword> gained 419 points to 58,054.12 and NSE's Nifty went up 107 points to cross 17000 level to 17,093.35. Adani Green, Mirzaint, KPI Tech and NHPC were among the top gainers on BSE on Friday morning. ZEEL, Bengal &amp; Assam Company, Jindal Stainless and Gujarat Pipavav Port were among the laggards on BSE. Indices BSE IT and BSE Telecom gained on Friday morning. In Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng went up 320 points, Japan's Nikkei surged 183 points, China's Shanghai rose 45 points and SandP ASX surged 24 points on Friday morning. In US markets, Dow Jones surged 371 points, S&amp;P500 gained 68 points and NYSE Composite went up 168 points. In European markets, BEL 20, CAC 40, Deutsche Borse were trading in the positive territory, FTSE 100 went up 65 points and Amsterdam Exchange was also trading in the green when Asian markets opened on Friday morning. Most of the key Indices of <keyword id="46984" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-markets" source="Orion">global markets</keyword> were on an upward trend as on Friday morning after the trigger of jitters to investors from Silicon Valley Bank and the recent decline in value of shares of Credit Suisse. The US government assured the SVB fallout had been taken care of while the Swiss central bank took stock of the situation by pumping more money into the lender. The domestic key indices went through a see-saw movement to settle in positive territory on Thursday. The indices also snapped their five-day losing run and ended with gains. The indices went through volatility tracking most of the global markets which strengthened after Swiss National Bank stepped in to take stock of Credit Suisse's shares fall. BSE Sensex on Thursday went up 78 points to finally settle at 57,634.84 while NSE Nifty lost 13 points at 16,985.60. Investors will be watching the country's forex reserves as the Reserve Bank of India will come out with the weekly update today. On Friday, shares of Patanjali Foods went down 2.80 per cent to Rs 919 apiece in morning trade. According to a statement released on Thursday, the promoters of Patanjali Foods said they do not foresee any adverse or negative impact on the financial position of the company owing to the instant freeze of promoters' shareholding by the stock exchanges. Sensex shoots up 419 points, Nifty over 17k level

New Delhi, Feb 4 () Steel pipe maker Jindal Saw Ltd on Tuesday reported a 21 per cent fall in net profit at Rs 119.69 crore during the quarter ended December 31, mainly on account of increased expenses.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 150.32 crore during the same quarter a year ago, Jindal Saw said in a BSE filing.
 Total income in October-December period rose to Rs 2,748 crore from Rs 2,398 crore in the corresponding period a year ago.
 However, total expenses rose to Rs 2,537.48 crore as against Rs 2,182 crore in the year-ago quarter.
 Jindal Saw is a leading global manufacturer and supplier of iron and steel pipe products, fittings and accessories with manufacturing facilities in India, the US, Europe and the UAE.
 Shares of the company on Tuesday closed 0.28 per cent lower at Rs 88.70 apiece on the BSE. ABI RVK

The next interesting inflection point came in 1991, when the P.V. Narasimha Rao administration introduced the New Economic Policy. This is where it all changed - India's most radical policy document in the form of the New Industrial Policy - the Licence Permit Raj was scrapped on 24 July 1991. Democratic socialism had been consigned to the rubbish heap of history - Licence Raj, which was in place for four decades, came to an end with the new industrial policy announced by Finance Minister Manmohan Singh and Prime Minister P.V. Narsimha Rao, who also held the portfolio of Industries Minister. The New Industrial Policy proposed getting rid of Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices and abolishing industrial licensing for all but 18 industries. Foreign equity holdings were proposed to be raised by 51 per cent in a project. Indian industry was free of controls and bureaucracy like never before. Over the last 30 years, India Inc had been turned on its head. As per the Bloomberg Billionaires Index now, Gautam Adani is ranked 4th in the world with a total net worth of $125 billion. Adani is followed by Mukesh Ambani at number 10 with a net worth of $83.6 billion. However, after Adani and Ambani the gap widens by a large extent and is then taken up by the software czars. The next rank from India is number 45 for Azim Premji of Wipro with a net worth of $ 24.6 billion. Shiv Nadar of HCL Technologies is at number 51 on the index with a net worth of $22.8 billion. The representation from India is then only at number 101 with Dilip Shanghvi with a net worth of $14.9 billion followed by Cyrus Poonawalla at 102 with $14.8 billion. Lakhsmi Mittal is at 103 with a net worth of $14.7 billion. Uday Kotak is ranked 106 with a net worth of $13.7 billion. Savitri Jindal is ranked at 119 on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a net worth of $12.9 billion. Sunil Mittal is ranked at 134 with a net worth of $12.2 billion. Shares of <keyword id="373126" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jindal-SAW-Ltd">Jindal SAW Ltd</keyword>, a midsized maker of transport pipes, surged nearly 15 percent in late afternoon deals on Monday after the company reported a strong set of earnings. 

	Jindal SAW said its first quarter Net Profit nearly doubled to 104 crore rupees compared with 55 crore rupees in the year ago quarter. Sales during April-June gained 66 percent to 1,912 crore rupees from 1,149 crore rupees in the year ago period. Jindal SAW said it had an outstanding order book position of $1 billion.
 Jindal SAW surged 15 percent, or 9.7 rupees, to 75.60 rupees on the <keyword id="53581" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="NATIONAL-STOCK-EXCHANGE">National Stock Exchange</keyword>, where a whopping 1.1 crore shares were traded compared with the 5-day average of 6.7 lakhs.

While Sensex zoomed 1,330.96 points to close the week at over 80,000 (80,436.84 points), Nifty inched up 1.65% to close the day at 24,541.15 points. Out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 47 saw advances, while only 3 declined as of August 16th, 2024. <keyword id="19945574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wipro" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Wipro" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> (up by 4.23%), Tech Mahindra (up by 3.98%), Grasim (up by 3.65%), Mahindra and Mahindra (up by 3.45%) and Tata Motors (up by 3.36%) were amongst the biggest gainers during the day. On the other hand, Divis Labs (down by 0.62%), SBI Life (down by 0.07%) and Dr. Reddy (down by 0.02%) were amidst the leading laggards. Out of the 2,797 stocks traded during the day, 1,872 saw advances, while 845 declined and another 80 remained unchanged. 95 stocks hit their 52-week high price, while 31 stocks also hit their 52-week lows. 112 stocks hit the upper circuit, or the maximum permissible trading price of a security during a single trading session. This included <keyword id="19945904" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ola" source="keywords">Ola</keyword>, which was up by 20%, Akums Drugs and Pharmaceuticals (up by 10%) and Jindal Poly Films (up by 17.75%). 76 stocks also hit the lower circuit, which included names like MTNL, Dolphin, DCX Systems and more. Most broad market indices closed the day in green, with Nifty Next 50 inching up by 1.82%, Nifty 100 up by 1.66%, Nifty mid cap 50 up by 2.03%, Nifty small cap 50 up by 2.24% and micro caps up by 2.07%. The only exception to this was India VIX, which slipped by 6.68%. Amidst sectoral indices, banks rose by 1.59%, auto was up by 2.01%, financial services was up by 1.7% and FMCG was up by 1.48%. IT (up by 2.89%), media (up by 2.09%) and realty (up by 2.49%) inched up over 2% during the day, while metals and consumer durables moved up by 1% each. Santosh Meena, Head of Research, Swastika Investmart Ltd notes that Indian markets joined the <keyword id="21476120" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-rally" source="keywords">global rally</keyword> today, rebounding after a brief period of underperformance driven by <keyword id="19950996" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FIIs" source="keywords">FIIs</keyword>' selling in both the cash and F&amp;O segments. Concerns over slightly weaker earnings, high valuations, and the Hindenburg issue had weighed on the market recently. However, a shift in global sentiment from panic to optimism has fueled today's upturn. "Several factors have contributed to this <keyword id="20016146" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bullish-momentum" source="keywords">bullish momentum</keyword>. The fear of a reversal in the yen carry trade has subsided, and strong retail sales figures, along with better-than-expected job data, have alleviated concerns about a potential U.S. recession. Additionally, the market is now fully pricing in a 25 basis point rate cut by the U.S. Federal Reserve in September, further boosting <keyword id="20322632" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="investor-confidence" source="keywords">investor confidence</keyword>. If the Nifty can sustain above its 20-DMA, around 24,500, the bullish momentum could extend towards the 24,800-25,000 zone. On the downside, the 24,200 level now serves as a key support", he continued. Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd noted that markets staged a robust recovery on Friday, gaining nearly 1.5%, driven by positive global cues. After opening with a gap-up, the Nifty initially lost all its gains in the early hours but rebounded due to strong buying interest in select heavyweight stocks. As a result, the Nifty decisively crossed the resistance at 24,400, closing near the day's high at 24,541.15. The rally was broad-based across sectors, with IT, realty, and auto stocks leading the gains. The broader indices also showed a solid recovery, each advancing nearly 2%. "With the Nifty breaking out of its consolidation phase, it appears poised to close the gap around the 24,700 level. If there is any dip, the 24,300-24,400 zone should provide support. We recommend aligning trades with a focus on stock picking. In the absence of any major domestic triggers, attention will remain on global market performance for further cues", said Mishra.

Selling pressure intensified just a bit on the two benchmarks on Thursday as the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> and the <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> slipped further in trade. Realty, Pharma, Telecom and Fertiliser stocks saw profit booking after a 6-day rally even as cement, banking and metal stocks continued their uptrend. Bears tightened their grip on the broader markets and the benchmarks on Thursday as weak cues from overseas forced traders to remain sellers on blue chips. Realty, Banking and infrastructure <keyword id="6354298" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="stocks">stocks</keyword> came under heavy selling pressure. The <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> plunged 122 points, or 1.44 percent, to 8,372 points, its lowest in one week. The index took support on the all-important 200-day moving average. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 6/43. Yes Bank, Punjab National Bank, Cairn, Vedanta and RIL were the top five stocks that lost ground on the Index while pharma stocks dominated trade for the second day. Lupin, ITC, BPCL, Dr. Reddy's and Sun Pharma were the top gainers on the Nifty. 

	Sun Pharma was the most active stock on the NSE with 710 crore rupees worth of shares changing hands. Lupin, Yes Bank and Axis Bank were in heavy demand as well on the exchange.
 

	The bears were in control of the broader market. Major indices such as CNX 100, CNX 200, CNX 500, CNX Junior Nifty and CNX Mid Cap and CNX Small Cap Indexes closed with losses of 1.2-2.9 percent on Thursday. 
 The sectorial space was awash with red. The <keyword id="151330" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bank-Nifty">Bank Nifty</keyword> plunged 420 points to 18,283 as traders remained sellers on the PSU banking basket. Therefore, the CNX PSU Bank Index dropped 3.4 percent, falling for the 2nd day. The trend was bearish in other indices too. The CNX Media, CNX Auto, CNX Energy, CNX Realty and CNX Finance lost between 1.7-4.1 percent on Thursday. On the <keyword id="43628" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bombay-stock-exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</keyword>, the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> lost 324 points, or 1.2 percent, to 27,607 points. BHEL, Tata Steel, Infosys and GAIL were among the top losers on the Index where Lupin, ITC and Dr. Reddy's rose smartly. The Advance-Decline Ratio stood at 5/25. 

	Axis Bank was the top traded counter with 69 crore rupees worth of shares changing hands on the BSE. Axis Bank is precariously perched at the 200-day moving average.
 

	The wider market saw one of the worst Advance-Decline numbers in recent trade: Today, 2,071 stocks lost ground compared with just 756 that rose over their Wednesday's close.
 The Bears were in total control of the futures and options space. The <keyword id="109714" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty-futures">Nifty futures</keyword> dropped 117 points to shut down at 8,388 points. Amtek Auto, IB Real Estate, JP Associates and Jindal Steel were among top losers while Lupin, ITC, Glenmark and BPCL post strong gains in the derivatives market. All 18 sectors ended up with losses. The Advance-Decline Ratio was at 17/145 in the futures and Options market. 

	Amtek Auto, Delta Corp, Om Metals, Thermax and 8K Miles figured on the NSE's top volume buzzers list and Chennai Petroleum, Auro Pharma, Abbott Labs and Kwality Ltd were the stocks that made fresh highs on the exchange on Thursday.
