Patna (Bihar) [India], March 22 (ANI): Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tej Pratap Yadav on Friday condemned the recent arrest of Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind <keyword id="19895701" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kejriwal" source="keywords">Kejriwal</keyword> and stated the INDIA alliance is not the one who gets scared, adding that the INDIA alliance are the ones who fight and win. He also accused the BJP of using government investigation agencies and other constitutional institutions to their advantage in the upcoming elections. He added that the people of INDIA Alliance, stand firmly with the Delhi government. "The way Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested today clearly shows that the BJP is completely scared and wants to fight elections with the help of government investigation agencies and other constitutional institutions. We, the people of the INDIA Alliance, stand firmly with the Delhi government. We are not the ones who get scared, we are the ones who fight and win," he said in a post on X. A team from the Enforcement Directorate arrived at Kejriwal's residence on Thursday to interrogate him regarding the liquor policy case. During a search operation conducted at his residence, Kejriwal was arrested amidst dramatic circumstances, as the AAP convener failed to obtain interim protection from arrest in the liquor policy case from the Delhi High Court. The Enforcement Directorate took him to the agency's headquarters later. A medical team also arrived at the ED office. AAP workers and leaders rallied behind Kejriwal following his arrest while leaders of the INDIA bloc also extended their support for the AAP leader. BJP leaders extended their support to the ED's actions against the Delhi Chief Minister, emphasizing "truth had to prevail". Pointing to the arrests of two opposition chief ministers and the freezing of a bank account of the Congress party, Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi on Thursday asked the BJP to stop doing politics behind the Enforcement Directorate. She accused the BJP of attempting to win elections through undemocratic means and urged them to engage in fair political competition rather than using the ED as a tool or weapon for their political agenda. "Today, the BJP is murdering democracy. They have arrested two opposition chief ministers (One chief minister <keyword id="20271174" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jharkhand-cm" source="keywords">Jharkhand CM</keyword> <keyword id="19968806" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hemant-soren" source="keywords">Hemant Soren</keyword> was put in jail and now another Kejriwal) and frozen a party's bank account. With the tenure of the present Vidhan Sabha ending on 5 January 2020, the Election Commission has announced the assembly elections to select the next government for Jharkhand that will occupy the state’s throne. The polling in the state will be conducted in 5 phases starting from 30 November 2019 and so the election scene is becoming hot with all the major parties trying their luck to grab as many seats as possible. The major parties in the state of Jharkhand that can influence the election results include BJP, AJSU, JVM, JMM, and INC. BJP BJP faced the 2014 assembly elections in the state in alliance with AJSU (All Jharkhand Students’ Union). Out of the total number of 81 assembly seats, BJP got 37 seats and its ally AJSU contributed its 5 seats. Hence, BJP could form a coalition government in the state with 42 MLAs whereas the total number required for a majority government is 41. In 2014 election, the party won only 5 seats which were contributed to form the coalition government in the state with the BJP. JVM Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) or Jharkhand Development Front (Democratic) was started in 2006 by Babulal Marandi who was formerly a Union Minister and the Jharkhand Chief Minister. He left the BJP on charges that the party had sidelined him and failed to recognize him and hence started JVM. The party president has announced that JVM will face the upcoming assembly elections alone and hence will nominate its candidates to contest from all the 81 seats. In the 2014 assembly elections, the party had won only 2 seats. INC, JMM and RJD INC is facing the 2019 general elections for the Vidhan Sabha in Jharkhand in alliance with Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). After providing the details about the pre-poll alliance, the party’s Jharkhand state in-charge RPN Singh has announced that the former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren will be the chief minister candidate for the alliance. As per the alliance terms, the Congress will contest in 31 out of 81 seats. RJD will contest from 7 seats and JMM will nominate its candidates from 43 seats. In 2014 elections for the Jharkhand Vidhan Sabha, INC got 6 seats, JMM got 19 seats and RJD did not get any seats.

Kumar emphasised on a three-pronged strategy of providing facilitation at polling stations, such as queue management, sheltered parking in congested areas; targeted outreach and communication; and involvement of critical stakeholders including RWAs, local icons and youth influencers to persuade people to come to polling stations on voting day. He told officials to prepare a booth-wise action plan for enhanced participation and behaviour change. He asked the participants to prepare different strategies for urban and rural areas and plan interventions accordingly for different target audiences. Discussions were centred on critical issues such as optimising queue management at polling stations and facilitating voting in high-rise buildings. Urban specific hurdles to increased voter turnout were identified and targeted city-specific interventions were planned. The officers were encouraged to develop tailored, region-specific outreach programs that resonate with the unique needs and demographics of their constituencies. The Commission recalled that nearly 29.7 crore eligible voters did not vote in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections "underscoring the scale of the problem which calls for proactive measures". In the last Lok Sabha elections, of the 50 seats with the lowest voter turnout, 17 were in metropolitans or major cities. It said recent elections across various states have highlighted trends of urban apathy towards the electoral process, warranting targeted interventions and collaborative endeavours.

In 2006, he left BJP and formed JVM (Jharkhand Vikas Morcha). Babulal Marandi contested from two seats in 2014 assembly elections. Unfortunately he lost both these seats. This time, he said he will be reattempting to fight from two constituencies as he did in 2014 elections. Hemant Soren in the shadow of Shibu Soren Following Shibu Soren’s retirement from public life, his son Heman Soren emerges from his shadow to provide the leadership to JMM. In 2005 elections, Shibu Soren’s JMM won from 17 seats. Though BJP secured 30 seats, Shibu Soren became the CM and remained in the office only for 10 days as he failed to prove his majority support. Between 2008 and 2010, Shibu Soren became the CM of Jharkhand two times. And the state was put under the president’s rule successively. Shibu Soren also became the CM for four months till January 2009 after Madhu Koda, an independent resigned. Between June and September, Shibu Soren once again became the CM for just five months. This time, JMM, INC and RJD are together facing the assembly elections in the state and the alliance has said the former CM of Jharkhand Hemant Soren will be the CM face of the mahagathbandhan for the upcoming elections. In 2014 assembly elections, Hemant Soren represented his party JMM by contesting from two seats namely Dumka and Barhet, but lost Dumka and could win only from Barhet. Gourav Vallabh The Congress Party is fielding Gaurav Vallabh as the party’s chief minister candidate for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand. Gaurav Vallabh served as the professor in finance at XLRI Management Institute in Jamshedpur. Born in a family of academicians, he is the first one to join politics. His recent debate in the media with BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra helped him rise to prominence.

Following Maharashtra and Haryana, Jharkhand is the third state going for assembly (Vidhan Sabha) polls after the Narendra Modi government came to power for its consecutive second term. A lacklustre show by the Congress in Bihar seems to have proved costly for the opposition grand alliance, as it dragged down the RJD too from the government formation in the Hindi heartland state. While the Congress lost ground in Bihar, it also suffered significant electoral losses in Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, losing a majority of bypolls in key states that saw the BJP surging ahead. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="79142084" title="Bihar Election Results 2020: With 40 seats still hanging in the balance, NDA widens its lead but RJD continues to be the single largest party" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> The Congress also alleged foul play in elections accusing the ruling NDA of misuse of power. The Congress also went to the EC making the allegations that their candidates were not given certificates of victory despite winning. "Democracy is being murdered and mandate being abducted in Bihar," Surjewala tweeted in Hindi citing examples of seats where their party candidate had won but not given certificates of victory. Senior party leaders again blamed EVMs for the losses, with former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Digvijaya Singh and Dalit leader Udit Raj claiming that the electronic voting machines (EVMs) can be hacked and tampered with, though their party colleague Karti Chidambaram said the EVM system is accurate and dependable, and "it's time to stop blaming the EVM". "What is the reason that no developed country is using EVMs... if a chip is there, then it is not tamper-proof," Singh said, alleging "selective" rigging. In Bihar, the Congress's tally dropped from 27 in 2015 to 19 as per the latest trends available, that saw the RJD-led grand alliance narrowly lag behind the BJP-led NDA. Though the Congress improved its vote share from 6.66 per cent in 2015 to nearly 9.5 per cent in this election, its strike rate this time was less than 30 per cent as against 66 percent last time. The grand old party had contested in 70 seats this time with its ally RJD contesting in the majority seats. In 2015, the Congress had contested in 41 seats. On their part, Congress sources said it would be "unfair" to say that the party fared poorly as it contested those seats in Bihar which were traditionally NDA strongholds and the JDU-BJP combine had a strike rate of over 95 in the past. Party insiders said the seats it contested also did not have the advantage of Muslim-Yadav combination and were never contested by it earlier. The presence of AIMIM also cost the Congress dearly as the Asaduddin Owaisi-led outfit won five seats and cost the Mhagathbandhan some 15-odd seats, insiders said. The RJD had also not won those seats since 1990, a leader claimed, adding that even in 2015 when RJD-JDU-Cong fought as part of 'Mahagathbandhan', the Congress had won 23 out of 32 seats from this area. Leaders said the party failed to put up a strong base in Bihar in the last two years after its former Bihar chief Ashok Choudhary defected to the JDU, and could not consolidate its position riding on the RJD support-base. Shiv Sena, an ally of Congress in Maharashtra, also accused the Congress of being the "weak-link" and dragging down the RJD. Sena's Sanjay Raut said had the Congress performed better, Tejaswi Yadav would have been declared CM by now. Of the 28 seats in Madhya Pradesh, the party lost 19 seats to the BJP and was leading in 8 seats it was holding, with Congress rebel Jyotiraditya Scindia posting big gains for the saffron party. In UP and Gujarat, the Congress drew a blank in 15 bypoll seats in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. However, one consolation for the Congress was its victory in bypolls in Haryana's Baroda seat, where the BJP is in power. The Congress held on to its Baroda assembly seat in the bypoll necessitated after the death of its MLA Shri Krishan Hooda. The Congress also won one seat each in Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand in bypolls held today.
