<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/40393663.cms" /><keyword id="6355629" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Google">Google</keyword> has just bought a <keyword id="12161" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="San-Francisco">San Francisco</keyword> based travel <keyword id="235499" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="APP">app</keyword> maker called <keyword id="2479528" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jetpac">Jetpac</keyword>. Jetpac started in California 3 years ago and is very popular with the masses. Jetpac is an app that creates insightful travel guides using consumer’s picture behaviour on social networks such as Instagram. 
 The application is freely available on the Apple app store, but after its acquisition by Google the app will be removed from the iStore. Google has not given any official statement on if the app will now only be available on the <keyword id="6355645" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="android">Android</keyword> platform or a new version will be available on the <keyword id="75489" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IOS">iOS</keyword> as well. Jetpac said it will stop supporting the app by mid-September. 
 
The financial details of the merger are still not clear. Jetpac is a good acquisition by the Internet mammoth. This app enables people to search for local clubs and pubs in more than 6,000 cities across the globe. Google should take great advantage of their codes and maybe string them in on Google maps.

It tells you all about the best places in every city to hit, based on analyzing millions of <keyword id="819905" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Instagram">Instagram</keyword> photos.
We've been playing with a preview of it and really like it.
It uses some pretty cool <keyword id="774829" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Big-Data">big data</keyword> technology to look at the photos, understand what's going on in them (are people smiling? what are they wearing?) and match them to their GPS locations.
From that, the app tells you, city by city things like:

<li>The bars women love (based on how many photos of smiling women taken there).</li>
<li>Where foodies eat and drink</li>
<li>The best coffee shops</li>
<li>Where music lovers hang out</li>
<li>Hikes tourists don't know about</li>
<li>Restaurants with the best views</li>
<li>Dog-friendly places</li>
<li>Best places for kids</li>
<li>And (one of our favorites), hipster hangouts, based on pictures of guys dressed hipster style or sporting hipster mustaches.</li>

For instance, it looked at pictures of people smiling and laughing to come up with this list of the 20 happiest <keyword id="6399501" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cities">cities</keyword> in the U.S, posted below. 
The list is surprising. <keyword id="160377" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="St-Louis">St. Louis</keyword> was crowned the happiest city, while Los Angeles didn't make the list at at all.
Jetpac has invented some big data technology to figure out things about Instagram pictures, like if the picture shows men, women or children; what the people are doing and how happy they seem to be while doing it. All of those things are really pretty hard for a computer to normally do.
The startup will soon release a new iPhone app called City Guides that uses this data to show you the best spots in any city. (<a href="how-to-find-the-bars-that-women-love-2013-11">We've been testing a preview of the app.</a>)
Based on thousands of Instagram photos for each city, Jetpac says these are the 20 happiest places in the nation:

The 20 Happiest Cities Discovered By Studying Instagram

<a href="https://www.jetpac.com/">Jetpac</a>, a startup known for their social travel guide app, has analyzed more than 150 million Instagram posts in 6,000 worldwide cities to <a href="https://www.jetpac.com/blog/post/80147853816/the-international-day-of-happiness">come up with a ranking</a> of the happiest countries on the globe. 
Jetpac compiled the rankings by coming up with what they call a "smile score" for each country, a measure determined by analyzing how often residents were smiling in Instagram photos. The bigger the smile, the higher the smile score.
A country's overall smile score was determined by averaging the scores each photo's smile received. 
Latin American countries dominated the list, with the Philippines as the only top-ten country outside of the Americas. Brazil came in first with a smile score of 60.8. Here are some great smiles from Brazilian Instagrammers:

The release of Jetpac's data coincides with the UN's <a href="http://www.dayofhappiness.net/#vote">International Day of Happiness</a>, which is being celebrated today.
