Ailing Jet Lite, a subsidiary of Jet Airways needed some relief. And so the parent decided to merge with it. India’s privately run full service airlines has decided to bring together Jet Lite, which has been performing quite poorly in last few years. Air Sahara was renamed Jet Lite when Jet Airways chairman Naresh Goyal aquired it from the Sahara group in 2007. 
 
While the balance sheets of the two entities will be merged, Jet Lite will continue to operate under its separate licence. 
 
The airline bought with it piles of debt has since put Jet's balance sheet and bottomline under heavy pressure. 
Also, Jet Airways expanded its codeshare with South African Airways. Jet said that its passengers can now book and travel throughout the combined networks of both the airlines, though Jet's strategic partner Etihad Airways has its hub in Abu Dhabi. 
 
Through the codeshare arrangement, Jet Airways places its marketing code on South African Airways' flights from Abu Dhabi to Johannesburg and beyond to Cape Town and Durban. In turn, South African Airways is placing its marketing code on Jet Airways' services between Abu Dhabi and Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. 
 
It already has a strategic partnership with UAE based Etihad Airways.

Jet Lite merges with Jet Airways for a boost

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=%E2%80%8BJet+Airways+India">Jet Airways India</a> Ltd., the 2nd largest private air carrier, snapped a 2-day fall on Thursday after the company announced it would merge a wholly-owned subsidiary with itself. 
 
Jet Airways' board approved the scheme of merger by way of transfer of the undertaking <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Jet+Lite">Jet Lite</a> (India) with itself along with its respective shareholders and creditors. The scheme is subject to compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, receipt of all relevant corporate, regulatory, governmental, judicial approvals and third party consents. The appointed date of the scheme is 1 April 2015. The existing shares held by Jet Airways and its nominees in <keyword id="174639" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Jet-Lite">Jet Lite</keyword> (India) shall stand cancelled without any consideration and Jet Lite (India) shall stand dissolved without winding up. 
 
Jet Airways purchased Air Sahara's operations 8 years ago and branded the airline as Jet Lite, which had a differential pricing aimed at the lower income market. 
 
Jet Airways rose 6.2 rupees, or 1.9 percent, to 323.55 rupees on the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=National+Stock+Exchange">National Stock Exchange</a> where 9 lakh shares were traded versus the 5-day average of 16 lakhs.

<ul><li>A recent forensic audit on <keyword id="6358200" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="jet-airways">Jet Airways</keyword> by the SBI reveals funds misappropriation and fraudulent bills. </li><li>The report revealed that over a period of four years, a provision of ₹ 3,353 crore was made for a loan Jet Lite. </li><li>The <keyword id="6376435" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ministry-of-corporate-affairs">Ministry of Corporate Affairs</keyword> (MCA) had ordered an investigation into Jet Airways for financial irregularities under the Companies Act. </li></ul>A fresh set of troubles have hit the bankrupt Jet Airways. Recent audits by the <keyword id="6354731" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-bank-of-india">State Bank of India</keyword> (SBI) show that it has misappropriated funds relating to provision of loans, and raised fraudulent bills, <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/jet-airways-audit-shows-diversion-of-funds-fraudulent-billing/articleshow/70220878.cms?from=mdr">as per an ET report</a>. The audit reveals that it did not verify invoices, which led to inflation of bills and fuel expenses for Jet Airways, though they remained static for other airlines. “Provisions have been made for a ₹3,353 crore loan given to <keyword id="47941" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JetLite">JetLite</keyword> over four years. Board resolution, shareholder approval for making this provision was not made available to the auditors,” the <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/jet-airways-audit-shows-diversion-of-funds-fraudulent-billing/articleshow/70220878.cms?from=mdr">forensic audit says</a>. A provision is when a company or a bank makes up for a loan which has gone bad or become unrecoverable, by putting extra funds into the kitty. These loans were also given out to Jet Lite in spite of the fact parent Jet Airways was making losses. The airline was grounded in April this year, after it accumulated as much as ₹8,500 crore in loans. It later turned bankrupt as no buyer came by, leading it to bankruptcy. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) had ordered an investigation into the debt-laden airline for possible siphoning of funds and financial irregularities. Related parties As per the report, Jet has been mismanaging funds, in addition to siphoning them and conducting transactions with related parties. Also, Jet Airways has raised monthly invoices of ₹15 crore for commercial activities. There is no documentation available for this. It had also billed as much as ₹140 crore fraudulently to company called JP Mills, an act which left it with a loss of ₹46 crore. “There have been a systematic effort to siphon money from the company. In the limited analysis conducted it is clear that multiple methods were used to take out funds from Jet Airways,” sources told ET. Jet Airways raised fraud bills, faked invoices and siphoned off funds, says report

<keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword> (India), the nation's second largest private carrier, gained ground in trade today after the company reported a surge in its passenger traffic. 
	Jet said monthly domestic air passenger traffic data showed the airline's share jumped 63.4% to 13.35 lakh in July 2015 over the same month last year. Jet Lite's domestic air passenger traffic dropped 1% to 2.02 lakh in July 2015 over July 2014.

	As a consequence, Jet Airways gained 7.25 rupees, or 1.9 percent, to 382.30 rupees on the National Stock Exchange where 9.9 lakh shares were traded versus the 5-day average of 27.9 lakh shares.

	Jet Airway's market capitalisation has gained 53 percent to 4,278 crore rupees in the past one year.

Here's what it was like to fly privately in the world's first SVJ.</li></ul>While a private airplane might seem unnecessary and unreasonable, there are a few compelling reasons to fly private - at least, if you or your business can afford it.The number one advantage is flexibility. While this can be a convenience for most private flyers, it can also be essential for someone with constantly changing business needs and demands."Mid-flight, you can decide 'actually, let's go to this place instead' and land somewhere else," said George Antoniadis, founder and CEO of PlaneSense, a fractional aircraft ownership company. I flew on a $9 million Swiss private jet that's trying to disrupt the industry - here's what it was like

<keyword id="122732" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Naresh-Goyal">Naresh Goyal</keyword>'s <keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword> plans to merge its Low Cost Carrier (<keyword id="125271" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="LCC">LCC</keyword>) <keyword id="47941" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="JetLite">Jetlite</keyword> with its flagship carrier. According to company sources, the management will soon induct pilots from Jetlite to the parent company Jet Airways. 
 
"Nearly 230 pilots will be shifted from Jetlite to Jet Airways. This is a point of concern for us because it may lead to drastic changes in our salary structures as well as our seniority," said a senior pilot who requested anonymity. 
 
He further revealed, "Cramer Ball, CEO of Jet Airways, will be meeting with the company pilots on 9 September to discuss the future plans of the airline with us. Basically, they want to explain their decision to ensure a smoother transition". 
 Other sources told BI India that the management took the decision to transfer pilots from its LCC to Full Cost Carrier (<keyword id="160638" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="FCC">FCC</keyword>) because they want to operate as a single brand. "The management didn't want any confusion regarding their brand. They just want to be known as Jet Airways and not differentiated as FCC and LCC," disclosed a senior official. 
 
Apart from the single-brand agenda, the management wants to aggressively expand its international network. Reports also suggest that airline will focus on deploying higher number of aircrafts on routes to Abu Dhabi, Etihad's base station, to boost profitability. 
 
"Despite the domestic side contributing about 40% to the total business, Jet lost a whopping 15.6% on its domestic operations wiping out any profits made by its bigger and more lucrative international division", said aviation analyst Devesh Agarwal. 
 
Commenting on the issue, Jet Airways spokesperson said, “The Jet Lite Air Operators Permit (AOP) will continue. We currently have excess pilot numbers in Jet Lite and we will be discussing with the Pilots, the options of working with Jet Airways. 
The airline has also announced its plans to reconfigure its fleet, in order to increase the efficiency of its operations. 
 
Interestingly, national carrier Air India, which too merged its domestic wing, erstwhile Indian Airlines and its international airline Air India in 2007, has been facing several HR issues pertaining to the salaries of the pilots. 
 
However, with Naresh Goyal at the helm of affairs in his airline, what remains to be seen is whether Jet Airways will manage a smooth transition or will it face more troubles down the road?

Jet’s Single Brand Agenda Gives Sleepless Nights To Pilots

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="1583080" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="AirAsia-India">AirAsia India</keyword>, which plans to start operations sometime this year, knows it will have to fight hard with existing carriers for a piece of the market. Actually, the battle with rivals has already begun, even before <keyword id="82750" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tony-Fernandes">Tony Fernandes</keyword>’s joint venture with the <keyword id="6360721" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Tatas">Tatas</keyword> takes wing. The latest round is being fought in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), with the incumbents strenuously objecting to the grant of an air operator’s permit to AirAsia India and complaining that the new entrant will disrupt industry “equilibrium”. 
 Gurgaon-based low-cost carrier <keyword id="6354706" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indigo">IndiGo</keyword>, the country’s airline largest by <keyword id="34527" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="market-share">market share</keyword>, and the Federation of <keyword id="1446" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="indian-airlines">Indian Airlines</keyword> lobby group have both objected to AirAsia’s entry. The letters, reviewed by ET, were in response to a public notice from DGCA seeking objections and suggestions on granting the permit. A DGCA official told ET that the views would be taken into consideration and a decision arrived at “soon”.

IndiGo President Aditya Ghosh said the relaxation of foreign direct investment rules in September 2012 had not been aimed at helping set up new projects but was meant to act as a lifeline for loss-making airline companies laden with debt. 
 “IndiGo’s primary objection opposing the application of <keyword id="2069477" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="AirAsia-India-Private-Ltd">AirAsia India Private Ltd</keyword> for grant of licence to operate a new greenfield scheduled airline in India is based on the grounds that it is not permitted under the foreign direct investment policy as enunciated by the government,” the letter said. “The reason and rationale of the policy was to provide the opportunity for existing airlines to access muchneeded capital, improve the viability through expanding route networks and skills from international airlines,” it added. Both representations are identical except for some changes. 
 <keyword id="43642" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="FIA">FIA</keyword>’s letter has been signed by the associate director of the lobby group, Ujjwal Dey. The association represents <keyword id="6358200" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Jet-Airways">Jet Airways</keyword>, GoAir, SpiceJet, IndiGo and <keyword id="6373962" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Kingfisher-Airlines">Kingfisher Airlines</keyword>, the last of which hasn’t been flying since October 2012. 
 
The points have been raised before, Ghosh said in an SMS reply to queries. “IndiGo has not raised any new objections,” Ghosh said. “Subsequent to the objections filed by the FIA on behalf of Jet Airways, Jet Lite, SpiceJet and GoAir on February 11, IndiGo only sent a letter on February 17 to the DGCA in support of some of these objections.” It should be pointed out that IndiGo is the country’s only carrier that has consistently been making profit. As an unlisted company, it’s not obliged to make quarterly earnings announcements. 
 
FIA and IndiGo both said a new entrant is not in the “long-term interest of existing airlines and consumers of the country.” They add: “The new joint ventures would have the opportunity to unfairly compete with the existing airlines, with huge losses and starved of capital, and thereby ensure that the existing airlines become even more vulnerable which could result in their ultimate closure.” FIA said the service proposed by AirAsia would result in “wasteful duplication” and “diversion of traffic” from existing airlines. IndiGo said that under “no circumstances” was the aviation sector ready to “inherit a fresh airline”. 
 
IndiGo and FIA also said a damaging price war was likely to ensue, which would “only lead to cumulative losses”. But that should also be read in the context of AirAsia having stopped international operations to four Indian cities, which would indicate that the local carriers flying those routes have been competitive, as ET reported on February 15. 
 
According to the submissions of both IndiGo and FIA, the accumulated losses of existing airlines as of March 2013 have hit Rs 77,000 crore. A senior aviation ministry official said the objections weren’t a surprise. 
 “We had expected such comments from the airline industry, but we have been very clear that the <keyword id="44528" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="FDI">FDI</keyword> policy is for both greenfield and brownfield airlines,” said the person, who didn’t want to be named. “However, the final call remains with the DGCA.” 
 It’s pertinent to note that Subramanian Swamy’s petition against AirAsia’s application is coming up for hearing in the <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> on Friday. FIA’s petition has been tagged along with that of Swamy. IndiGo had previously welcomed the prospect of competition.

As the name implies, the grants — which were not required to be paid back — were intended for theater owners, performing-arts companies, promoters, producers, and other behind-the-scenes businesses that had no money coming in.A 2023 Business Insider investigation found that dozens of wealthy musicians used ineffective oversight and loopholes in the law to line their pockets. <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sba-svog-grant-pandemic-relief-fund-post-malone-chris-brown-2023-8">Post Malone</a>, Chris Brown, Nickelback, and other artists got millions in taxpayer money even as some of them spent lavishly on homes and other acquisitions (in Post Malone's case, he spent more than $1 million on a hobbyist's sword-forging studio shortly before receiving $10 million in grants). <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/lil-wayne-post-malone-sba-svog-drug-free-workplace-2024-3">Lil Wayne</a> and others submitted signed certifications that they maintained drug-free workplaces, a requirement to get federal grants, despite being open about their enthusiasm for weed and psychedelic drugs.The SBA insisted that such grants were legal, an argument echoed by industry sources. But newly released emails and affidavits obtained by BI show that behind the scenes, many of the people applying for SVOG funds on behalf of wealthy artists worried for months that the artists didn't actually qualify. And at least one artist — the Canadian American crooner Paul Anka — turned down the advice of a consultant to apply for a grant because he said it felt wrong.The newly public court records, part of a lawsuit over a consultant's claims that he is entitled to a piece of the grants, reveal how word of the program traveled. Some staff at NKSFB, an accounting and wealth-management firm that eventually helped bring in more than $200 million from SVOG applications, were initially hesitant to submit applications for their clients' touring companies.David Hickok, a business manager, wrote in an affidavit that despite murmurs within the industry that artists were cashing in, within his division of the firm, "we came to a consensus that applying for SVOG grants on behalf of musicians' touring entities was too risky.""The SVOG guidelines did not specifically mention touring entities as an eligible category, and our primary concern was that the client might receive the award and then later have to return it after an audit initiated by the SBA," Hickok wrote.Several people at NKSFB were worried that their clients would face bad publicity if they sought a grant or that the government could try to claw the money back."The information about awarded grants was public, so not only would this put a financial burden on the client, but it could also harm the client's reputation," Hickok wrote. "If NKSFB, as a fiduciary, advised its clients to apply for a grant for which they would ultimately be found ineligible, that would result in negative consequences for our clients, and could also expose NKSFB to liability."In a June 2021 email, Bessy Wong, an NKSFB partner, told the firm's managing partner, Mickey Segal, that she told Anka that Segal was of the opinion that "he could be committing perjury by filing for the government grant when he wasn't entitled to the funds."But NKSFB was under pressure from clients who claimed the practice was widespread. "All the top acts are doing it," the talent manager for Suicideboys, Kyle Leunissen, wrote in a July 27, 2021, email. Federal records show that the hip-hop duo's touring company got $3.6 million in August that year. In October, Billboard <a target="_blank" href="https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/suicideboys-new-album-headlining-tour-2021-interview-9649488/">reported</a> that Suicideboys signed a "strong eight-figure deal" with a distributor. Leunissen didn't reply to an email seeking comment.Accountants at the firm were also made aware of industry efforts to pressure the SBA, including through Congress, to interpret the law broadly."Law is not meant to be interpreted on intent but on language," Michael Strickland, a lawyer who owns the concert-lighting business Bandit Lites, said in an April 2021 email sent to others in the industry. "The more emails you send, the harder it is for the SBA to exclude sectors based on 'intent.'"Strickland told BI he pushed for focusing aid on those most in need. "I got into a long-term, very lengthy, very in-depth conversation with all of the people behind Save Our Stages, saying we need to make sure this goes to the most needy people," he said.But once the law was passed, Strickland said he focused on helping as many people get money as possible. He was frank about the program's shortcomings: "They met the letter of the law — and it was written wide open," he told BI. "I know a bunch of folks that bought jet cards. There was nothing in there that said you had to pay people."Strickland added that the problem went beyond wealthy recipients: "Forget the people who have money: There was a lot of abuse."According to Hickok's affidavit, the turning point for NKSFB came in late August 2021, just two days before the deadline to file an SVOG application. At a meeting, he wrote, they concluded the larger risk was being fired or perhaps even sued if they didn't give their clients the grants versus whatever the risks were of applying for them. The overwhelming majority of clients chose to apply, Hickok said.One who didn't: Paul Anka. <div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right" style="width:470px"><div class="image">Miller Fortune</div></div>MillerCoors is targeting whiskey lovers with a new bourbon-flavored beer called Miller Fortune.
The golden lager "will be distributed wider and faster than any MillerCoors' introduction since the Molson Coors Brewing Co. and SABMiller joint venture formed in 2008," <a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-01-27/millercoors-seeks-spirits-fans-with-bourbon-like-lager.html">Bloomberg reports</a>. 
Miller Fortune will be packaged in jet-black, angular bottles meant to "evoke a guy in a tapered, athletic-cut suit," Bloomberg's Duane Stanford writes. In order to set it apart from other beers, the company is asking bartenders to serve the drink in cocktail glasses. 
The new brew has an alcohol content of 6.9%, which is higher than most MillerCoors beers (a Coors Lite has 5.9% alcohol content) but far less than the alcohol content of bourbon, which is typically higher than 40%.
In making the new drink, MillerCoors sought inspiration from Jack Daniels and Maker's Mark.
"We asked, 'How would Jack Daniels or Maker's Mark do a beer and why?'" David Kroll, MillerCoors' head of innovation, told Bloomberg. "We tortured every aspect to say, 'Are we falling back on what beer would do?' Because this brand is intended to play in a spirits occasion."
A six-pack of Miller Fortune will cost roughly $6.99.

As the stars of the program, Rooster and his business partner, Wayne "Butch" Gilliam, fly&#xa0;aspiring entreprenuers&#xa0;to Texas on private jets and decide whether or not to invest in their products.Unlike the hosts of similar reality shows, Rooster and Butch vet their potential investments through a series of very personal - and often hilarious - examinations."We're more about the people, basically," McConaughey told Business Insider. "Sometimes we'll pick up a glitch in their personality, and we'll test that a little bit ... &#xa0;The deal's gotta be decent, but the person counts as much or more as the deal does."<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>Over the course of the season's eight episodes, Rooster and Butch meet with 16 entreprenuers and end up investing a total of $1.97 million in products ranging from apps and eyewear to&#xa0;guitars and barbeque sauces.&#xa0;The show breaks down into several parts: first, the entreprenuers pitch their ideas;&#xa0;then, in a segment that&#xa0;Rooster calls "scenarios," the two hosts test the product out in the real world, all while evaluating&#xa0;the character of the entrepreuner&#xa0;through a series of challenges.<div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>In one episode, Rooster tests out an app that allows you to order&#xa0;drinks at a busy bar, while his partner Butch orders the old-fashioned way and get his drinks faster."The son of a b---- cheats," McConaughey joked&#xa0;about his business partner.&#xa0;By&#xa0;the final segment, if they think the product and the entreprenuer have potential, Rooster and Butch will sit the guest&#xa0;down and settle on a deal through some tough talk and, often, a lowering of expectations."The figures [the entreprenuers]&#xa0;come in with are out of sight," McConaughey said.
