Facebook has filed a lawsuit against Indian-American software architect <keyword id="9033627" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="basant-gajjar">Basant Gajjar</keyword> who violated the companys policies by providing 'cloaking software and services designed to circumvent automated ad review systems, and ultimately run deceptive ads on both Facebook and Instagram. Gajjar operated under the name 'LeadCloak' and provided ad-cloaking software designed to push fake news and scams related to COVID-19, cryptocurrency, pharmaceuticals, diet pills and fake news pages. Some of cloaked websites also included images of celebrities. LeadCloak's software also targeted a number of other technology companies including <keyword id="6355629" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="google">Google</keyword>, Oath, WordPress, Shopify, and others, claimed Facebook in its lawsuit filed in federal court in California. "Cloaking is a malicious technique that impairs ad review systems by concealing the nature of the <keyword id="6370485" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="website">website</keyword> linked to an ad," Facebook said in a statement late Thursday. "When ads are cloaked, a company's ad review system may see a website showing an innocuous product such as a sweater, but a user will see a different website, promoting deceptive products and services which, in many cases, are not allowed," explained <keyword id="7571297" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jessica-Romero">Jessica Romero</keyword>, Director of Platform Enforcement and Litigation at Facebook. According to Gajjar's brief profile available on Internet, he is a digital marketer, SaaS expert and Founder and System Architect at LeadCloak.com. Gajjar earned Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems, General from California State University-Sacramento and Bachelor's Degree in <keyword id="6390100" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="computer-science">Computer Science</keyword>, also from California State University-Sacramento. In addition to the lawsuit, Facebook said it has taken technical enforcement measures against Leadcloak and accounts that "we've determined have used their software, including disabling personal and ad accounts on Facebook and Instagram". Facebook sues Indian techie over deceptive Covid-19 ad

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Some <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> patients — particularly those with long-lasting symptoms — have reported dermatological problems including hives, lesions, and red, scaly rashes.</li><li>A new report from Massachusetts General Hospital identified <keyword id="6371970" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="skin">skin</keyword> issues among more than 300 coronavirus patients from April to August.</li><li>Doctors suspect these rashes may be the result of persistent <keyword id="95653" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Inflammation">inflammation</keyword> in the body.</li></ul>Laura Romero thought the red <keyword id="132255" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="rash">rash</keyword> she spotted on her arm in September was an allergic reaction to her laundry detergent. But its placement was puzzling: The rash was only concentrated in a small patch near her right elbow. "I'd never had a rash like that before," Romero, a 28-year-old who lives near San Antonio, Texas, told Business Insider. "It was very itchy and there were little bumps on it. It kind of looked like eczema, but I don't have a history of eczema."Romero is a coronavirus "long-hauler" — a patient with long-lasting symptoms. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 on August 17, with symptoms including congestion, vomiting, and body aches. She still suffers from nausea, headaches, and fatigue.Like Romero, many long-haulers are reporting dermatological problems including hives, lesions, and red, scaly rashes. Coronavirus patients — long-haulers and otherwise — have also reported redness and swelling on their feet, a condition that has earned the nickname "COVID toes." Sometimes, these issues appear in conjunction with early symptoms; in other cases, it can take weeks or months for skin problems to manifest after a person is diagnosed. From April to August, physicians at Massachusetts General Hospital documented more than 300 coronavirus patients with skin problems, according to a new report presented at the annual meeting of the European Academy of <keyword id="853968" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="dermatology">Dermatology</keyword> and Venereology.On average, the report found, these skin conditions lasted around 12 days. "COVID toes" lasted slightly longer — around 15 days in lab-confirmed cases — though two patients exhibited the symptom for more than 130 days. Scaly rashes typically lasted around 20 days in confirmed cases."Our findings reveal a previously unreported subset of patients with long-standing skin symptoms from COVID-19, in particular those with COVID toes," Dr. Esther Freeman, the hospital's director of global health dermatology, said in a statement. "This data adds to our knowledge about the long-term effects of COVID-19 in different organ systems." <h2>Long-haulers may be prone to skin issues </h2>Romero said her rash has persisted for more than seven weeks. Lately, it has crept up towards her forearm, but it hasn't appeared on any other part of her body. As a surgical assistant, Romero has found the rash particularly irritating, since her protective gown rubs against her skin. "It started getting to the point where it was getting really itchy throughout the day," she said. "It would get open sores, I guess from scratching it so much. Then it was painful after that because I kept scratching it." <div type="image" title="how to get rid of eczema" height="1407" width="2500" msid="79064334" hostid="261"></div>Eczema lotion helps relieve some of the discomfort, she said, but the redness won't go away. But in a <a href="https://dig.abclocal.go.com/wls/documents/2020/072720-wls-covid-symptom-study-doc.pdf">July survey</a> of more than 1,500 long-haulers, 247 patients said they'd had a rash at some point during their illness. Around 170 long-haulers also said they'd experienced swollen toes or feet, but the condition has been more frequently associated with <a href="https://www.jaadcasereports.org/article/S2352-5126(20)30498-7/pdf">COVID-19 cases that show no other signs of illness</a>."Many patients are developing these toe lesions well after their infection, or they're otherwise completely asymptomatic, except for the toes," Freeman <a href="https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2020/unusual-coronavirus-symptoms.html">recently told AARP</a>.<h2>A possible inflammatory response </h2>Jessica Bortz Schaap never tested positive for the coronavirus, but her doctor gave her a presumed diagnosis in July. She'd developed many classic <keyword id="8889783" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="Covid-19-symptoms">COVID-19 symptoms</keyword> — fever, sore throat, joint paint, difficulty breathing, and fatigue — but her test came back negative. (Her doctor suspected she was tested too early.)By October, Schaap's symptoms had mostly gone, but a strange rash had appeared on her neck."It looks almost like a cigarette burn," Schaap, a 42-year-old in Louisville, Kentucky, told Business Insider. "It's kind of red and it's just these perfect little circles that break out."One potential explanation for this is that the coronavirus may directly damage skin cells. It's also possible that rashes and lesions could result from tiny blood clots in the skin. Some research has <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-symptoms-supercomputer-theory-bradykinin-storm-2020-9">indicated that COVID-19 is a vascular disease</a> instead of a respiratory one, meaning it can travel through the blood vessels.But doctors have another theory as to why rashes form after several weeks or months: Many long-haul cases likely stem from an aggressive immune response to the virus, which can trigger persistent inflammation."The skin is potentially a visible window into inflammation that could be going on in the body," Freeman said. "We encourage clinicians taking care of patients with COVID-19 to ask about and evaluate any skin symptoms."

That has to change."Heard didn't write that headline either. Heard and an ACLU representative testified in the trial that a Washington Post editor chose the headline for the op-ed, as is typical for media organizations. Depp's lawyers <a href="https://www.insider.com/johnny-depp-amber-heard-domestic-abuse-defamation-trial-virginia-2022-4">nonetheless argued that Heard "republished" the op-ed</a> by tweeting a link to it.Emails shown to jurors indicate that Heard made modifications to the ACLU's draft. Roy Gutterman, the director of the Tully Center for Free Speech at Syracuse University and an expert in defamation law, told Insider the verdict underscores how Heard is ultimately responsible for the words in the op-ed — even if she wasn't the person who wrote it."I do not think it is uncommon for an outside party to ghostwrite an op-ed. But this case reiterates that when an author puts her or his name on a piece, that author is vouching for that content and the message," Gutterman said. "The piece was written by professionals with Amber Heard's input and approval. And she is the one left liable for damages."Representatives for the ACLU and The Washington Post didn't immediately respond to requests for comment for this story.<h2>'I don't see how the ACLU comes out of this'</h2>The Washington Post op-ed was designed to be a platform that would launch Heard — a donor to the ACLU — as a representative of domestic violence victims. In internal emails shown to jurors, ACLU staffers <a href="https://www.insider.com/amber-heard-domestic-violence-timed-aquaman-release-2022-4">discussed timing its publication with the release of "Aquaman,"</a> which co-starred the actress.Staffers also wrote about how Heard's former relationship with Depp would bring attention to gender-based violence. At around the same time that Heard filed for divorce, in 2016, she also filed a restraining order against Depp that included a photo of her face, which appeared to be bruised.<a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/ive-seen-how-institutions-protect-men-accused-of-abuse-heres-what-we-can-do/2018/12/18/71fd876a-02ed-11e9-b5df-5d3874f1ac36_story.html">The op-ed itself</a> revealed how people told Heard she would be "blacklisted" when she became "a public figure representing domestic abuse" at the time."I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse," the op-ed reads.Depp, alleging the op-ed was defamatory, <a href="https://www.insider.com/johnny-depp-amber-heard-domestic-abuse-defamation-trial-virginia-2022-4">brought the lawsuit against Heard in March 2019</a> in a court in Fairfax County, Virginia. He claimed Heard fabricated the bruise and that she abused him — not the other way around. He didn't include the ACLU or The Washington Post as defendants in his case. She and Depp also <a href="https://www.insider.com/johnny-depp-amber-heard-domestic-abuse-defamation-trial-virginia-2022-4">released a joint statement</a> describing their relationship as "intensely passionate and at times volatile."Jessica Weitz, who oversaw the ACLU communications team responsible for the op-ed, indicated she was aware of the sensitivities surrounding the divorce."I want to make sure nothing was said in here that puts you in jeopardy with your NDA," she wrote in an email shown to jurors.Heard ultimately never made good on her $3.5 million donation to the ACLU, even though she said in a media interview that she had already donated the money. Of the $1.3 million that was donated in her name, according to Dougherty's review of the ACLU's internal files, <a href="https://www.insider.com/elon-musk-donated-aclu-for-amber-heard-after-depp-divorce-2022-4">$500,000 likely came from Elon Musk</a>, who dated Heard after her breakup with Depp. Heard said on the stand that she only ceased payments to the ACLU <a href="https://www.insider.com/amber-heard-stopped-aclu-donations-johnny-depp-lawsuit-2022-5">because of Depp's lawsuit</a>.David Ring, a Los Angeles-based attorney specializing in sexual assault and abuse cases, told Insider that Wednesday's verdict was a blow against the ACLU's reputation."I don't see how the ACLU comes out of this," Ring, a partner at the firm Taylor &amp; Ring, told Insider. "They're not paying her jury verdict against her. I think it was a huge mistake for someone to ghostwrite an op-ed piece and now it turns out it was generally not true."Like Heard, <a href="https://www.insider.com/johnny-depp-adam-waldman-statement-defame-amber-heard-2022-6">Depp was also found liable for things he didn't personally say</a>. The jury found that he defamed her through a statement made by his lawyer Adam Waldman describing one of Heard's allegations as a "hoax." For that portion of the verdict, jurors established that Waldman acted as an "agent" for Depp and decided against having the actor pay her any punitive damages.As the case went to trial, the ACLU filed a case against Depp in New York state court, asking for him to pay the organization for the costs of sifting through thousands of files for his case. It asked for $86,000 in reimbursement costs. A judge hasn't yet ruled on the matter.
