Five DU colleges were among the top 10 colleges in the rankings with Miranda House bagging the top honours for the fourth consecutive time, followed by Lady Shri Ram and Hindu College. New Delhi, Feb 3 () Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju on Wednesday said the amount allocated for sports for the financial year 2021-22 could be revised if it is needed, asserting that all requirements of athletes heading into Tokyo Olympics are being met. The central government on Monday allocated Rs 2596.14 crore for sports -- a reduction of Rs 230.78 crore when compared to the amount earmarked initially for the previous year, that was derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic across the world. "...if needed, there is a provision for asking for revised allocation," Rijiju said on the sidelines of the launch of Fit India office at the Jawahar Lal Nehru stadium here. In the last financial year, the government had allocated Rs 2826.92 crore for sports, which was later revised to Rs 1800.15 crore because of the lack of activity caused by the pandemic. This year's allocated amount is Rs 795.99 crore more than the revised budget of 2020-21. Rijiju said, "The sports ministry is there to take care and support athletes and National Sports Federations (NSFs). We are there to look after the requirement of athletes and demand of NSFs. "The funding is for athletes, not NSFs. There will be no shortage of funds for players as and when they require. "Whatever is the requirement of athletes is always met, be it foreign training or hiring of overseas coaches. Sports is a state subject and the sports ministry is there to provide support to state governments." The sports ministry bears the cost of all foreign training and competition, including participation in the Olympics. The government's flagship Khelo India programme was handed the biggest reduction -- of Rs 232.71 crore -- among all sports heads for the 2021-22 budget, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday. During Wednesday's event, Sports Secretary Ravi Mittal said, "If you look at the budget of 2021-22 as against 2019-2020 there is an increase of 19.13 percent. We are not considering the initial budget of 2020-21 because it was an unprecedented year hit by COVID." "From the revised figures also there is an increase of nearly 40 percent. Khelo India also got a boost of 72 per cent compared to 2019-2020. "The contributions towards NSFs has also increased, just in infrastructure development there was slight reduction," Mittal added. New Delhi, Feb 13 () The government will organise an organic food festival for women entrepreneurs from February 21-23 here to promote the segment which is projected to expand nearly three-fold to Rs 75,000 crore in market size in the next five years, Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Thursday.The three-day festival will be organised jointly by Food Processing and Women &amp; Child Development ministries at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium in the national capital. The theme of this festival is 'Unleasing India's Organic Market Potential'."We are organising an organic food festival in Delhi where more than 150 women entrepreneurs, over 40 self help groups and two co-operatives from all over the country will be participating," Badal told reporters here.The minister said the festival would provide a platform for these women entrepreneurs to exhibit their organic produce as well as for consumers to buy products.The government will be investing around Rs 3 crore to organise this festival, she said, adding that the entry would be free for public. As many as 10 states and industry chambers helped in reaching out to these 150 entrepreneurs.Badal said such festival would be organised regularly across various states. Talking the about potential in this sector, the minister said the organic market is estimated to reach Rs 75,000 crore by 2025 from Rs 27,000 crore currently.Food Processing Secretary Pushpa Subrahmanyam highlighted that India is ranked number one in organic producers and 9th in area under cultivation for organic products.The country produced around 1.7 million tonnes of certified organic products in 2017-18. It exported organic products worth USD 515 million in the same year.To boost organic products and women entrepreneurship, the two ministries had signed an MoU to help them get connected with government's financial schemes.The overall effort is targeted towards strengthening 'organic' branding for India by enhancing direct linkage of local producers with buyers as well as boosting processing potential of organic output. During the festival, training programmes will be organised for women entrepreneurs in the area of packaging, storage, marketing, innovations on renewable energy, food safety regulations and organic certifications. Govt to hold 3-day festival to promote organic foods

New Delhi, Dec 23 () National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) and food regulator FSSAI will jointly organise national street food festival in the national capital during December 25-29.
The 11th National Street Food Festival will be organised at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium here and around 75,000 people are expected to visit the festival.
During the event, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) will also organise its second edition of the 'National Eat Right Mela' to promote healthy foods.
"Through this mela, we want to give a unique and distinct identify to our
local and street food," FSSAI CEO Pawan Kumar Agarwal told reporters here.
"We are also offering a platform to the packaged food industry to showcase innovation in terms of newer areas like reformulation of food products, healthier food variants as well as sustainable and enhanced packaging solutions," he added.
Agarwal said there will be a complete package for people -- delicious street food, entertainment and education -- in this festival.
The theme of this year's festival is 'healthier diets' where the idea is to focus various initiatives of FSSAI around healthy eating through gamification (in an interactive manner through games and quizzes).
Food Safety pavilion will focus on demonstration of rapid food testing kits/devices.
On December 26, Health minister Harsh Vardhan will launch the 'Network for Scientific Co-operation for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition' (NetSCoFAN), a network of research and academic institutions working in the area of food and nutrition.
Sangeeta Singh, Head of Programs, NASVI, said: "This festival, over the years, has helped mainstream various street vending communities. We expect a footfall of around 75,000 during the five day festival".
Arbind Singh, National Coordinator, NASVI, said about 130 street vendors would get the opportunity to showcase their regional cuisines to thousands of visitors from various walks of life. MJH BAL

The Income Tax Department maintains a list of institutions and the limit on deduction against each of them. To save tax, use cheque and not cash while donating to charity

New Delhi, Feb 21 () India's organic food market is growing at 17 per cent annually and has the potential to grow at a faster pace on rising demand for health and wellness food products across the world, Union Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal said on Friday.Badal and Minister for Women and Child Development (WCD) Smriti Irani jointly inaugurated an organic food festival for women entrepreneurs at Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium here. The festival with a theme ''Unleasing India's Organic Market Potential'' has been organised by both the ministries with CII as the industry partner.More than 180 women entrepreneurs, self-help groups (SHGs) and co-operatives are taking part in this three-day exhibition organised in the national capital during February 21-23.Addressing the event, Badal said the two ministries have come together to give women entrepreneurs in the organic sector "wings to fly and reach the sky". She said this festival would be organised six times a year across India, and the plan is to make it an international exhibition in the near future. She said the entire world is looking towards organic and wellness food, which is required for both physical and mental health."In organic and health foods, India is a power house," Badal said, adding that there are many parts of India which are naturally organic such as Sikkim, hilly states and tribal belts.This organic festival provides a platform to women entrepreneurs to connect with consumers as well as retailers, Badal said."The organic sector in India is growing by almost 17 per cent every year... In times to come, the trend is going to grow much faster," the minister said.Earlier this month, Badal had said the organic food market will touch Rs 75,000 crore in the next five years. ‘Daughter of the nation’ Lata Mangeshkar turns 90 and here’s taking a look at her career of 77 years

Though the Centre has trumpeted the India-China disengagement along the <keyword id="49399" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Line-of-Actual-Control">Line of Actual Control</keyword> (LAC) in Ladakh as a victory, Army veteran Lt. Gen. H.S. Panag called it pragmatic acceptance of weakness and Beijing's 1959 claim. In an exclusive interview with IANS, Gen. Panag claimed that the "disengagement" is happening exactly as per China's 1959 claim line because India has no military capability to alter the situation. However, he said, it is "good for the long term peace" since the disengagement in Ladakh is likely a part of the broader plan for settlement of border disputes between the two countries. The plan, he presumed, will include acceptance of McMohan Line in Northeast with some give and take between New Delhi and Beijing, as per the 1959 proposal. <div type="Article" hostid="261" msid="80831679" title="India and China begin to disengage from friction areas along the border — terms and conditions apply" mstype="2" mssubtype="0"></div> In 1959, China's then Prime Minister Zhou Enlai had proposed to the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru that the armies of both the countries withdraw 20 kms from the McMohan Line in the East and from the line up to which each side exercised actual control in the West. Through its intrusions since May, China has already reached the 1959 claim line in Depsang and north of Pangong Tso, according to Panag. The militaries of both sides had been locked in a faceoff along the same line except Demchok, an inhabited area. The 1959 Claim Line, he said, is a marvel of cartography to protect Aksai Chin and other areas seized by China in the 1950s. "If we attempt to get back those areas, Chinese can by the configuration of the 1959 claim line, close certain areas and usurp more of our territory. For example, at the North of Pangong Tso from where all our routes go to Hot Springs and Gogla, the distance from the northern edge of the Pangong Tso to the Konkala Pass (Hot Springs and Gogla area) is 100 kms. They have taken up the area up to Finger 4. So if they come another 30 to 40 kms forward and choke us, then this 100 kms will also go." "Similarly, the way they are poised in the DBO sector, no matter how many troops you put, that area is like a piece of cake. It will fall within 48 hours. The DBO airfield is within 10 kms of the 59 claim line, which is also the LAC there in the northern part of the DBO sector." The veteran defence analyst said that in the Southern part of Ladakh, India had crossed the 59 claim line and used to patrol. "But now they have stopped us from patrolling. So they have reached the 59 claim line and we are not in a position to vacate them militarily." Panag, whose defence analyses are read widely, a few months ago had claimed that by crossing the LAC, Chinese had gained everything and India lost everything. He had also predicted that India would lose the commanding heights of the Kailash range to China. "But I have revised my assessment now to say that the disengagement is the forerunner of a macro plan which may lead to an all-encompassing agreement where we accept the 59 claim line in Ladakh with buffer zones to save face and also a demilitarised zone of 20 kms." He said it was the most pragmatic solution for India to accept the '59 Claim Line with buffer zones. "Buffer zones in the Depsang plain, Pangong will not be patrolled or occupied and no infrastructure will be developed. So to that end, nothing has changed," Lt. Gen. Panag argued. However, buffer zones will be in the lower portion, the southern half of the Depsang plain, that is about 800 sq kms where Chinese have been patrolling, 20 kms east-west depth and 30-40 kms north-south. In Pangong Tso, its about 50-60 kms. "So overall, roughly 800 to 1,000 kms will become buffer zones. Also, buffer zones may come up in other areas where there is some small dispute like in Chumar," he said. This he said would be the first part of the plan and the rest of the plan will unravel in the next couple of weeks. The second part of the agreement, he said, will include a demilitarised zone of 20 kms on either side of the new LACï¿½1959 claim line. "This is what China had offered in 1959 and they will give up the Northeast," he said. At the same time, Gen. Panag, however said that the advantage goes to China because they have better infrastructure and they can quickly enter the area. "But then we can put some troops which can preempt it. Last year, we could not preempt it but that was our lapse. We were hesitant; we did not read the Chinese right." However, domestically, he said, there is no problem, he said with an element of sarcasm. "The government has already sold the idea that nothing much has happened and Modi Ji is very popular. The neo-nationalists have gone against their own creed (territory being important to the nation) and launched propaganda that nothing has happened. It has been done through denial, opacity, bluff, bluster and obfuscation." In the present situation, it is the best bet if it leads to peace for another 30 years, Panag said, arguing that tensions flared up between the two Asian giants 27 years after the last time they came to such an agreement in 1993. "If we had the capability, China would have never done this. It happened because they knew our weakness," he said. "If we get another 30 years, then we will be in a position to create the desired military capability, build up our economy, reduce the gap, not that we can catch up with China but to the extent between the US and China. There is still a huge gap between the US and China but China is no longer a pushover for the US. What China gains out of it is that if there is no quarrel left with India, New Delhi has no reason to ally with the US to contest China." Remember Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>’s grand reception at Madison Square Garden in <keyword id="72226" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="New-York-City">New York City</keyword> last year. Now Indian-Americans in California have begun preparations for a similar kind of reception for Modi, who would be the only second Indian PM to visit the state with a trip planned in September to <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword>, reported PTI. 

	To accord the grand reception at Silicon Valley, representatives of Indian-American organisations recently held their first full-fledged preparatory meeting in Sunnyvale, California. 
 The Indian PM would first attend the Annual General Assembly meeting of the <keyword id="6355833" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="united-nations">United Nations</keyword> in New York in September-end. After that, he would visit Silicon Valley and address Indian-Americans, including technology entrepreneurs. 

	"We have planned a community reception on the evening of September 27 at the SAP Centre, San Jose where close to 20,000 people are expected to gather to hear him speak," Khanderao Kand of newly-formed Indo-American Community of West Coast USA told PTI. 
 

	The meeting was addressed by the Indian Ambassador to the US, Arun K Singh, via a video conference. 
 Among others, it was attended by Consul-General of India in <keyword id="12161" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="San-Francisco">San Francisco</keyword>, Venkatesh Ashok, and <keyword id="667859" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vijay-Chauthaiwale">Vijay Chauthaiwale</keyword>, in-charge foreign relations department of BJP. 

	Chauthaiwale is on a visit to San Francisco Bay Area to oversee the preparations for the reception. 
 

	"The event is a historic moment for the Indian community in Silicon Valley and the diaspora in general," he said. 
 

	Modi's visit is considered significant, especially with regard to his 'Digital India' initiative that aims to use technology in connecting people and transforming governance in India. 
 

	Moreover, he would be the second Indian PM to visit San Francisco-Bay Area after Jawahar Lal Nehru's trip in 1949. 
 

	San Francisco-Bay Area, of which Silicon Valley is a part, is home to about half-a-million-strong Indian-Americans. 
 

	Last year when Modi visited the US, he was given a grand reception at Madison Square Garden. He addressed nearly 20,000 Indian-Americans there.

Silicon Valley to give PM Modi a rockstar-like welcome!

Prime Minister <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword>, once again, is all set to address U.S. based Indians in the showground dubbed as the "<keyword id="1417364" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shark-Tank">Shark Tank</keyword>". Modi, during his visit to <keyword id="6357722" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="silicon-valley">Silicon Valley</keyword> on September 27/28 will address the masses. 
 As reported by Economic Times, the community leadership in the Bay Area and Modi’s aides has been visiting the region and then zeroed in on the SAP Center in San Jose. NaMo, after Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru in 1949, will become the second Indian PM visiting the west coast. SAP Center is the home of <keyword id="230717" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="San-Jose-Sharks">San Jose Sharks</keyword> in National (ice) Hockey League and is known among sports buffs as the "Shark Tank." 
 The arena, with a capacity to accommodate around 17,000 people is very much like the Madison Square Garden’s in <keyword id="72226" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-York-City">New York City</keyword> where Modi made an awe-inspiring appearance last September. The venue was preferred over Cow Palace in San Francisco, which seats only around 12,000. 
 The SAP Center, when is not hosting NHL/NFL events, is home to entertainment which varies from circuses to concerts. The “Shark Tank” is cited as the fourth busiest arena in the US and also a number of big names in the entertainment industry like <keyword id="15313" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Madonna">Madonna</keyword>, Miley Cyrus, Sonu Nigam and even ShahRukh Khan have performed there. In fact, someone else from India is going to beat the Prime Minister to SAP — the comedian Kapil Sharma is slated to perform on August 1. 
 Organizers are expecting an even more crowded event than the Madison Square Garden event, which is still being spoken of in awed tones in New York and <keyword id="6354998" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Washington">Washington</keyword>, considering that California has the largest population of NRIs in the US, with a heavy concentration in the Bay Area. 
 
The Prime Minister’s program is yet to be finalized with the first meeting between his aides and local community organizers kicking off over the weekend. 
 
Apart from the community event at Shark Tank, a tech sortie, given the Prime Minister's interest in technology is also on the cards. Silicon Valley is home to storied companies such as Google, Intel, HP, and Oracle, not to speak of nifty new social media enterprises such as Facebook and Twitter that Prime Minister Modi is perhaps more familiar with.
