Hero MotoCorp’s four plants in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand have been impacted due to the ongoing Jats reservation demand. 
 
"Dispatches from all our plants - at Gurgaon and Dharuhera (Haryana), Neemrana (Rajasthan) and Haridwar (Uttarakhand) - have been affected due to the ongoing blockade of the national highways and other roads," said a Hero MotoCorp spokesperson. 
 
Production output has also been partially impacted today at the plants due to the ongoing impasse, the spokesperson added. 
 
As of last quarter, the company had an installed capacity to produce 81 lakh units per annum from the four production facilities. 
 
Sources from rival Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India (HMSI) said there was no impact on production at the company's Manesar facility. 
 
The plant has a capacity to roll out 16 lakh units annually.

Hero MotoCorp’s Haryana plants face the brunt of Jat reservation stir

Gurugram, Security in <keyword id="3864405" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurugram-district">Gurugram district</keyword> was beefed up on Sunday with the deployment of more police, rapid action force and even paramilitary personnel even as hundreds of <keyword id="45092" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="farmers">farmers</keyword> from Rajasthan were stopped on the <keyword id="4907373" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="haryana-rajasthan">Haryana-Rajasthan</keyword> border the previous night. The protesting farmers staged a dharna at the interstate border point on the service lane of the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway after police stopped them from proceeding further on Saturday night. They are now awaiting more farmers to join in. Sources said that more police personnel than farmers were seen deployed at the Rajasthan-Haryana border falling in Gurugram district on Sunday. "Thousands of police personnel along with water cannons, cranes/JCBs and anti-riot equipment have been stationed across the National Highway to stop farmers from entering Gurugram area," said Nikita Gahlaut, DCP (Manesar). As of Saturday evening, two groups of farmers from Rajasthan, with more expected to join them on Sunday, turned up to participate in the call for "blocking" the NH-48. As the protestors sat on a dharna on the NH's service lane, they shouted slogans to demand the repeal of the three new central farm laws. Earlier, Swaraj India national President Yogendra Yadav had tweeted that the farmers from Rajasthan and Haryana would gather at Kotputli and Behror before their proposed march to Delhi on December 13. According to a senior police officer who did not wish to be named, the Haryana Police had changed its strategy to stop farmers from proceeding further, putting up barricades on the Haryana-Rajasthan border in the district till <keyword id="3912043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-gurugram">Delhi-Gurugram</keyword> border and digging up trenches on roads. The police has been deployed on the Haryana-Rajasthan border and at Bawal, Sudhrawali, Bilaspur Chowk, Panchgaon Chowk near Kherki Daula toll plaza, Shankar Chowk, and Delhi-Gurugram border on the <keyword id="6361028" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Expressway">Expressway</keyword>. Haryana's farmer leader Rampal Jat said: "We are waiting for more protesters to join us. Farmers from different villages in Gurugram district will also rally on the Rajasthan-Haryana border. We are expecting thousands of farmers to participate." He said that they all plan to join the farmers already protesting on Delhi borders at Tikri and Singhu. "We have made preparation to stay put for months at the protest spot, bringing along food items, clothes, water and other essentials," he added. "We know that we will be stopped by the police and we are prepared for that. This is our protest against the three black farms law and we will win, sooner or later," Jat asserted. Yogendra Yadav, who along with farmers and members of worker union, moved towards Delhi on foot on Sunday, said that mobilisation of protesters was on from several districts of Rajasthan and south Haryana districts for Sunday's march. Farmers' Protest: Security beefed up in Gurugram as farmers stopped on Haryana-Rajasthan border

New Delhi, <keyword id="6355300" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="security">Security</keyword> has been further beefed up in the last couple of days at <keyword id="2802822" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Singhu-Border">Singhu border</keyword>, however, the agitating <keyword id="48857" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Farmer">farmer</keyword>s remain firm on their demands. Every protesting farmer at <keyword id="10719874" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singhu-village">Singhu village</keyword> gives almost the same reply, "We won't go back till the three anti-farmer laws are taken back". Police barricades that were earlier put up at Singhu village, now have also appeared at Singhola village, which is around one-and-a-half km away from Singhu. Singhu and Singhola, these two Jat-dominated villages of northeast Delhi are located either side of the road - (Delhi-Panipat highway) which is blocked since November 26 due to the farmers' protests. Scores of farmers from Haryana and <keyword id="6354953" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword> have been protesting at Singhu against three the <keyword id="9970645" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="farm-laws">farm laws</keyword> passed by Parliament. These three laws are - The Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020. In the last one week, IANS spoke to a varied section of people and farmers at the Singhu protest site to get their views about three farm laws they have stood against and about their lives within multi-layer security for the last two months. Though most of them were not well aware of the contentious points of these three farm laws, they have their own stories of struggling as farmers. A group of farmers from various districts of Haryana sitting with their traditional hookahs in the middle raised their concerns that the new farm rules will end the mandi system and leave them dependent on corporate agents. Mahar Singh Talwandi, an old farmer in the group said, "We are worried that the government will end the mandi system and will give free hands to big companies. The Mandi system helps us to take money in advance and the people associated with the system are also familiar with farmers' issues." As to how the movement against three farm laws started in Haryana, Devender Singh, another old famer in the group said, "Government's laws are written in English and we old farmers do not know. But, we know farming and its rules. After the Government passed these farm laws, farmers in Haryana started meetings in villages and opposed farm laws. People those who are dependent on farming have reservations against these farms laws." While a middle-aged farmer who has come from Jind district in Haryana, sitting in the group added, "At present, the farmers in Haryana have no work to do on farmland for next two months. We are free and will stay here only." Young farmers at Singhu would often reply to any query slamming the BJP-run government, especially incidents on January 26 at Red Fort and scuffle due to stone-pelting at a protest site on January 28. They expressed their anger slamming the government for suspending internet services there, putting up barricades, blocking the place they are protesting, arrests of farmers, and many more issues. "BJP-led government first tried to divide farmers and then made several attempts to derail peaceful farm protests through its partymen. Many of us are students and we are here because of wrong policy (farm laws) by the government. We will not allow corporate companies to snatch our lands. We will fight until these anti-farm laws are repealed," said Sukhvir Singh, one of the farmers in the group. Satnam Singh, a farmer leader in the group added, "We will not talk with the government till all the farmers are out of jail. No matter how long the government will test farmers, we will sit here and will leave this place only after these three farm laws are taken back." However this time, Nandal has the BJP and Modi’s advantage with him. Even without the party advantage, Nandal has been closing in the vote margin in the last two elections. A dynasty man Hooda’s father Chaudhary Ranbir Singh Hooda too was a senior Congress leader, while his son Deepender Singh Hooda has served as an MP thrice from the Rohtak constituency. The poll of exit polls projected a win for BJP with a massive majority of 63 out of the 90 seats. However, there was only one poll, by India Today-Axis, which showed a neck-to-neck fight between the two coalitions- one led by the BJP and the other led by Congress. He was just 24 when he joined RSS in 1977. Having worked for 14 years, he joined the BJP and went on to become the Organizational General Secretary of the state. As a strategist with both the RSS and the BJP, Khattar remained in the shadows until he was thrown into the spotlight in 2014 when he was chosen as the BJP's candidate for the CM elections. Controversies surrounding Khattar Khattar’s five-year term in the state has also been marred with multiple controversies with the biggest one being the Jat agitation in February 2016. The Jat agitation saw violent protests and unrests in the state as the community asked for inclusion in the Other Backward Class, so as to get the affirmative action benefits. He was also in news right after Article 370 was scrapped for his comments on Kashmiri girls. However, all that can held against Khattar pales in front of the poor perception of the opposition. The BJP has ensured that the corruption charges on Robert Vadra, the kin of the Congress chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and the Chautala family that ruled the state earlier remain etched in public memory as they cast their vote. Manohar Lal Khattar wins his constituency but is hanging on to Haryana by a thread

<ul><li>BJP has bagged 40 seats to Congress' 31 of the total 90 seats in the state, according to the Election Commission. </li><li>Congress led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda has swept central parts like Jhajjhar, Badli, Garhi Sampla, Beri, Israna and others in the region.</li><li>BJP has 36.5% and Congress has 28.1% vote share so far, according to the Election Commission data.</li><li>Dushyant Chautala whose JJP is a splinter party from the INLD may become the kingmaker.</li></ul>The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the single largest party in Haryana with in 40 seats compared to Congress which has 31, according to the Election Commission. However, the BJP and its allies led by Manohar Lal Khattar have fallen short of the majority. The midway mark is at 45 and the winning side needs at least 46 to form the government. Embarrassingly for hte BJP, seven of its state cabinet ministers have lost their own seats. "I thank the people of Haryana for blessing us. We will continue to work with the same zeal and dedication for the state’s progress. I laud the efforts of hardworking @BJP4Haryana Karyakartas who toiled extensively and went among the people to elaborate on our development agenda," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said. On the other hand, Congress has gained hugely in vote share compared to the last assembly elections and is leading in 28 seats so far. Congress had 28.1% vote share in Haryana, according to data from Election Commission. However, there is one from India Today-Axis that has predicted a hung assembly in the state, leaving room for some anxiety in all camps. The BJP had won 47 seats in the 2014 Haryana assembly election, Congress won 15 seats, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won 19 seats, while others won 9 seats. Factors at play in 2019 The assembly elections this year took place five months after the BJP’s clean sweep in the Parliamentary polls, just like in 2014. However, this year, there was less excitement on the voting day. The turnout fell to 65%, down from 76.54% in the previous election. In the general elections earlier this year, the BJP was able to garner a clear majority even in the state with 34% of the votes and 70% of the seats. The government in Haryana has largely mirrored the one at the Centre, either by electing the same party or an ally in the state. Going by that trend, BJP had an upper hand. However, the larger economic slowdown in the country has had a major impact on Haryana's voter sentiment. The state is one of India's largest automobile hubs and accounts for two thirds of passenger cars, 50% of tractors and 60% of motorcycles manufactured in the country, according to the India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF). The infamous slowdown in car sales has led to large-scale job losses in Haryana. Districts such as Panipat, Gurugram, Faridabad, Hisar and Sonipat are home to many textile businesses, particularly, readymade cotton garments, which is one of the major exports of Haryana. The sector is dire straits due to loss of competitive edge to other countries in the region and that too, has hurt the livelihood of many people. The agrarian distress, also widespread in the country, has also shown its impact in the state. Still, the state economy has grown at a compounded annual growth rate of 12.67% over the last seven years and has led to much prosperity in many parts. This is in part due to the explosion of IT and IT-enabled services in the state, especially in the city of Gurgaon. The political balance Politically, the state’s votes were divided into Jats and Punjabi — the two dominant social segments. Over the last few years, the Punjabis have preferred the BJP. Which is why BJP got a large chunk of its seats from Punjabi-dominated areas Chandigarh, Panchkula, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Karnal and Panipat — pretty much the entire route from Delhi to Chandigarh except Sonepat. However, the BJP has managed to consolidate the upper castes in the state into a significant vote bank which has benefited the party hugely in diluting the dominance of the Jats. 30% of the state population is from the lowest rung of the Indian society, the Dalits. They are not known to be BJP backers but as seen in the 2019 Parliamentary elections, some of the traditional caste calculus tend to break in the absence of a credible opposition. Since his election, Chief Minister Khattar has seen many controversies including an agitation by Jats demanding the benefits of the ‘Other Backward Class’, protests by many thousands of supporters of a self-styled Godman, Baba Rahim, and small-scale riots on the streets over a movie that was later released under the title of Padmavat, to name a few. Yet, a series of family feuds and corruption charges have kept opposition leaders busy firefighting most of the time and less prepared for the electoral battle. Add to that, Narendra Modi’s charm that worked wonders in the recently concluded general elections and since then, some emotive issues like the suspension of Article 370 that gave the state of Jammu and Kashmir a ‘special’ status have been largely well received by the people of the state. The opposition particularly the Congress made some gains but it wasn't enough to capitalise on BJP's lapses. Roughly 150 years later, that mass emigration is evident in an annual Dixie-themed festival in Brazil's southeastern Sao Paulo state. The festival draws thousands of Brazilians who trace their ancestry back to the American South, <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/27/brazilians-celebrate-confederate-ancestry-deep-south" target="_blank">according to the Guardian</a>.The Guardian said that the Brazilians, many of whom are of mixed race, do not view the Confederate flag in a negative way.&#xa0;"To me it's a positive symbol of my heritage," Keila Padovese Armelin, a festival attendee, told the Guardian.&#xa0;"For us, it doesn't have a negative connotation at all."<h3>Sweden</h3><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>In a central part of Sweden called Dalarna, people love American kitsch.&#xa0;This Swedish sub-culture called "raggare" has a fascination with 1950s American pop-culture.As the <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/lifestyle/travel/in-dalarna-a-bit-of-america-in-sweden/2013/08/29/1571f10a-0a7f-11e3-8974-f97ab3b3c677_story.html" target="_blank">Washington Post reported</a> in 2013, in Dalarna "men strut around in cowboy hats and leather boots. American flags flutter outside family homes, and posters advertise hamburger bars and 1950s nostalgia markets."&#xa0;The Post says in Sweden - void of any political context - the Confederate flag represents another piece of Americana.<h3>Germany</h3><div><div></div></div>In Germany, the Confederate flag is not void of political context. European skinheads and neo-Nazi groups have adopted the Confederate flag and variations of it because of its historical context as a symbol of racism and white supremacy.In addition, <a href="http://www.theatlantic.com/international/archive/2011/06/confederates-on-the-rhine/239724/" target="_blank">the Atlantic reports</a> that American Civil War reenactments have become popular in Germany, with many Germans choosing to side with the Confederacy.Wolfgang Hochbruck,&#xa0;a professor of American Studies at the University of Freiburg, told the Atlantic this is because&#xa0;"some of the Confederate reenactors in Germany are acting out Nazi fantasies of racial superiority." <h3>Northern Ireland</h3><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div></div></div>In Northern Ireland, the Red Hand Defenders, an extremist protestant paramilitary group, march with the Confederate flag. It is called the flag of Novorossiya or "New Russia" and it bears a striking resemblance to the flag of the American south.However, the founder of the flag asserts this similarity is purely coincidental.
