Coronavirus hits Mumbai's Jaslok hospital, 31 nurses, 5 doctors test positive

India saw a steep rise in the number of infected cases after 28 new cases were reported from 10 states on Wednesday (March 18), taking the total number of infected people to 184. Maha government setups more quarantine facilities With the number of coronavirus cases touching 47 in the state, Maharashtra's anti-coronavirus battle became even fiercer with more testing and quarantine facilities. This is besides the all-out efforts implemented to avoid the challenge of keeping the crowd at bay in public areas and at workplaces. What are containment zones? The Ministry of Health defines COVID-19 containment zones as the area where several positive cases of Coronavirus are found. “The cluster containment strategy would be to contain the disease within a defined geographic area by detecting cases in the nascent stage, breaking the chain of transmission and preventing its spread to new areas. This would include geographic quarantine, social distancing measures, enhanced active surveillance, testing all suspected cases, isolation of cases, quarantine of contacts and risk communication to create awareness among the public on preventive public health measures,” said the Ministry of Health. The difference between a hotspot and a containment zone is that the former are not seized but largely monitored for suspected cases. However, when a place is declared as containment zones, the areas are completely sealed, and no outdoor or indoor movements are allowed until permitted by the authorities. Taking a dim view of abusive behaviour towards healthcare professionals amid the nationwide lockdown, the Indian Medical Association (<keyword id="8507" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="IMA">IMA</keyword>) has called for observance of a 'White Day' on Wednesday and a nationwide 'Black Day' protest on Thursday. The IMA wrote a letter on Monday to all its current and past office-bearers to issue directions to different hospitals and health workers to light candles on hospital premises as a symbol of protest and vigil on Wednesday. "Let not our white become red," the IMA warned, and demanded enactment of a central law through an ordinance for the protection of healthcare professionals and guarantee for a safe workplace. "If the government fails to enact a central law on violence against doctors and hospitals even after a white alert, the IMA will observe a 'Black Day' on Thursday," it said. The association said that all doctors in the country will sport black badges on Thursday as a mark of protest. "A decision on the further course of action will be taken if suitable steps are not taken by the government even after 'Black Day'. The 'White Alert' is only a warning," said the association. the IMA said that it had so far observed the utmost restraint and patience in spite of extreme provocations. "Doctors have been abused, beaten up, denied entry to their residences. Obstruction in cremation is the last straw that the IMA can bear," Dr Rajan Sharma, IMA President, said in the letter. "If dignity is denied even in death, our patience and restraint lose their value. We demand a special central law against violence against doctors, nurses, healthcare workers and hospitals through an ordinance," Dr RV Asokan, Honorary Secretary General of the IMA, added. Top medial association wants to observe white day and black day to protest abuse

<ul><li><keyword id="18635" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> India has partnered with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to deliver essential supplies in Mumbai’s containment zones.</li><li>Amazon will deliver orders to a designated delivery point in the vicinity of the containment zone. </li><li>Volunteers will then deliver the packages to the customer’s doorstep.</li><li>The entire list of containment zones are listed below.</li></ul>Amazon India has partnered with Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to deliver essential supplies to the <keyword id="8999150" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="containment-zones-in-mumbai">containment zones in Mumbai</keyword>. So far, e-commerce players were not allowed to function in containment zones at all. “Our collaboration with BMC is intended to support those in the containment zones to access essential items conveniently and safely,” said Prakash Rochlani, Director, Last Mile Operations, Amazon India. During Lockdown 3.0, Amazon has also started delivering non-essential orders to green and orange zones in the country. However, the metropolitan cities of India that are the top markets for e-commerce platforms are in the red zone where only essentials can be delivered. How will it function Amazon will deliver orders to a designated delivery point in the vicinity of the containment zone, from where volunteers will further deliver the packages to the customer’s doorstep. Consumers will have to place their orders on the Amazon app, and select their delivery location in the containment zone. Volunteers from the containment zone will then pick up the packages and deliver it to the user's doorsteps. Mumbai is one of the worst hit cities in the coronavirus pandemic and has over 10,000 cases in the city.
