New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): The discussion on the <keyword id="6360189" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget" source="Orion">Union Budget</keyword> 2024-25, presented on July 23, will continue in both <keyword id="244400" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Houses-of-Parliament" source="Orion">Houses of Parliament</keyword> on Thursday. The discussion on <keyword id="6358021" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Budget" source="Orion">Budget</keyword> of <keyword id="17605" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="jammu-and-kashmir" source="Orion">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword>, 2024-25, which was also presented on Tuesday, will also continue today. The discussion was initiated by former Finance Minister and Congress MP P Chidambaram in Rajya Sabha and Congress MP Kumari Selja initiated the discussion in Lok Sabha. Raising four major challenges, Chidambaram said the most significant challenge is unemployment and data released by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) indicates that the unemployment rate for June 2024 is 9.2 per cent . Chidambaram emphasised that the primary challenge for the economy is creating sufficient employment opportunities. He pointed out that the budget's announcement of the employment-linked incentives (ELI) scheme suggests that the Production Linked Incentives (PLI) scheme is not generating the expected employment. He urged the finance minister to disclose the number of jobs created by the PLI scheme. Radha Mohan Das Aggarwal of the BJP highlighted the achievements made by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last ten years. He said the Jan Dhan Yojana has provided banking services to crores of people in the country. Biplab Kumar Deb of the BJP said the Economic Survey has estimated real GDP growth of 6.5 per cent to 7 per cent in 2024-25. He highlighted the provisions in the budget for various sections, including farmers and the education sector. Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee launched a strong attack on the Modi government, alleging that the Union Budget lacks clarity or vision, that it has been rolled out to satisfy the coalition partners of the BJP and that it "was planned by two individuals to keep another two in good faith." The budget session of Parliament began on July 22 and, according to schedule, will end on August 12.

Islamabad: Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that <keyword id="19991528" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="trade-ties" source="keywords">trade ties</keyword> between Islamabad and New Delhi have remained suspended since 2019 due to the imposition of "heavy duties" by <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> on imports from Pakistan after the <keyword id="20579845" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pulwama-attack" source="keywords">Pulwama attack</keyword>. In a written reply submitted to the <keyword id="19935944" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-assembly" source="keywords">National Assembly</keyword> on Saturday, Dar, who also holds the deputy prime minister's slot, said: "India decided to impose 200 per cent duty on imports from Pakistan, suspended the Kashmir bus service and trade across the Line of Control after the Pulwama attack." According to the Dawn newspaper, Dar was responding to a question by Pakistan Peoples Party lawmaker Sharmila Faruqui seeking details about trade challenges faced by Pakistan in its relations with neighbouring countries, especially India. In March, during a press conference in London, Dar highlighted the eagerness of Pakistan's business community to resume trade activities with India. However, his office later clarified that Pakistan has no plan to resume trade relations with India which has been "non-existent" since 2019. Pakistan downgraded its ties with India after the <keyword id="20467268" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-parliament" source="keywords">Indian Parliament</keyword> suspended Article 370 on August 5, 2019, a decision that Islamabad believed undermined the environment for holding talks between the neighbours. "We have consistently advocated constructive engagement and result-oriented dialogue to resolve all outstanding issues, including the core issue of Jammu and Kashmir with India...," Dar said on Saturday. The foreign minister said that the "onus is now on Delhi to take steps for the creation of an environment that is conducive to peace and dialogue". India has been maintaining that it desires normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan while insisting that the onus is on Islamabad to create an environment that is free of terror and hostility for such an engagement. Islamabad and New Delhi have a long history of strained relations, primarily due to the Kashmir issue as well as the cross-border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

Three killed in Jammu and Kashmir amid militant attack

Two CRPF men were killed and three others injured after terrorists attacked a road opening party of the police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Monday, officials said. The attack took place in the Kandzal area of Pampore. Sources said the road opening party (ROP) of the CRPF and <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> Police was fired upon by the terrorists. Five CRPF personnel sustained injuries and were evacuated to the district hospital, where two succumbed to their injuries. Additional security forces have reached the spot. The area has been cordoned off and a search operation is underway. Two CRPF men, three injured after terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district

Four suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists were killed and two policemen were injured in a gunbattle on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway after a truck carrying a group of freshly infiltrated militants was intercepted by security forces on the outskirts of Jammu city on Thursday, top police officials said. The terrorists had come to execute a "big plan" which has now been foiled, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu, Mukesh Singh, said. In Srinagar, IGP, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar said the four terrorists were on their way to the Kashmir valley to disturb the District Development Council (DDC) polls scheduled later this month, as Pakistan has been trying to cause trouble in the political process. Giving details of the encounter, IGP Singh told a press conference in Jammu that during checking a truck was stopped at Ban toll plaza in Nagrota area at 5 am but the driver fled leaving behind the vehicle. CRPF and police personnel moved to search the vehicle and came under fire of the terrorists hiding in the truck.They retaliated resulting in an encounter. Other forces also joined resulting in a fierce gunbattle in which terrorists fired grenades and arms, he said. In the three-hour-long gunbattle, four terrorists were killed and two policemen were injured, he said, adding the policemen were out of danger. A huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosive material was recovered including 11 AK rifles, 3 pistols, 29 grenades and 6 UBGL grenades, he said. As per weapon recovery and past instances, it appears that they belong to JeM, he added. Speaking on the sidelines of a function in Srinagar, IGP Kumar said, "For the last few days, Pakistan has increased attempts to infiltrate militants into this side and to disturb the elections for which the process is on. In this context, Jammu Police and security forces have done a good job by neutralising four Pakistanis (militants). Their (militants') aim was to come to Kashmir to disturb the election process". He said there were apprehensions about militants targeting the elections, but the security forces were fully prepared to deal with the situation. "Whether there is an election or August 15 or January 26 or even a VIP visit, apprehensions are always there, but we are fully prepared... We are providing security to the candidates and they have started going to the field for campaigning from yesterday and there is nothing to fear," he said. Kumar, however, said providing security to each candidate contesting the polls, which begin on November 28, was difficult. "Providing security to each candidate is difficult. We are providing them collective security and they are being put up in secure areas. Whenever any candidate goes out for campaigning, we provide a double escort with him and secure the area for him to campaign," he said when pointed out that the candidates were alleging that they had not been provided security. DDC polls will be held from November 28 to December 22. Results will be declared on December 22. These polls will be the first major political activity in <keyword id="17605" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-kashmir">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> since August 5 last year, when the Centre revoked the special status of the erstwhile state under Article 370 of the Constitution and split it into two Union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Four suspected Jaish terrorists killed in encounter on their way execute a 'big plan', say J&K police officials

 The Pulwana attack is the worst since militancy erupted in 1989. On Thursday afternoon, a suicide bomber reportedly rammed an SUV packed with explosives into a bus carrying CRPF security personnel, killing at least 42 and injuring many others. The bus was part of a 78-vehicle convoy that was travelling on the the Srinagar-Jammu highway in Pulwama district. The Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Moahammad (JeM) has claimed responsibility for the bloodbath and released a video clip of the suicide bomber which it claimed was shot before the young man carried out the audacious attack in Lethpora, about 30 km from here. The group said one of its commanders, Adil Ahmad Dar, was the suicide bomber. Police sources and other officials told IANS the suicide bomber-driven SUV came along the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) bus when the 78-vehicle convoy carrying 2,547 security personnel was going from the transit camp in Jammu to Srinagar and rammed it into the bus around 3.15 p.m., triggering a deafening explosion. The first report spoke of eight deaths. But the death toll quickly mounted. The bus was said to be transporting 39 troopers. CRPF officials told IANS the bus was the main target of the militants and was destroyed fully while another CRPF vehicle was partly damaged. In its latest push to create education and employment in the naxal affected areas, the Modi government expanded the scholarship programme. The scholarship amount was revised by from ₹2,250 to ₹3,000 per month for girls; and ₹2,000 to ₹2,500 for boys. The government is also planning to set up elite institutes including Indian Institute of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Management (IIMs), All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMs) in the newly formed union territory.
