A jeweller and his son in Jaipur have been accused of duping a <keyword id="19921537" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="US-woman" source="keywords">US woman</keyword> out of Rs 6 crore by selling her <keyword id="22026714" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="fake-jewellery" source="keywords">fake jewellery</keyword>, police said on Wednesday. According to officials, the jeweller duo, identified as <keyword id="22026715" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajendra-Soni" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Rajendra Soni" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Rajendra Soni">Rajendra Soni</keyword> and <keyword id="22026716" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gaurav-Soni" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Gaurav Soni" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Gaurav Soni">Gaurav Soni</keyword>, allegedly polished silver chains to look like gold and sold Rs 300 moissanite stones as expensive diamonds, complete with fake certificates. Additional DCP Bajrang Singh said that Nand Kishore, who made the fake certificates, has been arrested. The police have issued a lookout notice for the absconding jewellers. "The duo used the cheated money to buy a Rs 3 crore flat in Jaipur," he said. The matter came to light after Cherish Nortje, a US citizen, filed a complaint at Manak Chowk police station on May 18. She had been dealing with the jewellers since 2022, buying gemstone jewellery for her business in the US. In April 2024, she found out at a US exhibition that the jewellery was fake. She came to Jaipur in May to confront the jewellers, leading to an argument. After the confrontation, Rajendra and Gaurav filed a complaint against Nortje, claiming that she forcibly took jewellery from their shop. However, CCTV footage showed Nortje leaving with the jewellery she had brought in. The police confirmed that the jewellery was fake through a second lab in Sitapura and arrested Nand Kishore, who confessed to making the certificates based on the jewellers' instructions. The main accused, Rajendra and Gaurav, are still on the run, and police are searching for them. More complaints from other foreign traders are now under investigation, officials said.

The grey market expects five of the eight stocks to give over 40% listing gains. Moreover, it’s placing a multibagger-like bet on Jaipur-based Motison Jewellers. As expected, this issue was subscribed within an hour of opening. It was subscribed by 15x on the very first day, with outsized interest from retail investors. opened last week, Doms, Inox India and India Shelter Finance also received overwhelming response. Pencil maker Doms was subscribed 93 times the shares on offer. Inox was subscribed 61 times, and India Shelter Finance was subscribed 36 times. Going into the new year too, the IPO season is expected to remain busy, and go on until the general elections in May next year. “Markets are likely to witness a robust capital raise next year as well. There are more than 65 IPO documents filed with Sebi. Of these, 25 have already received Sebi nod,” said Lunawat.

The IPO Rush: Grey market stays bullish, as retail investors can’t get enough

New Delhi, <keyword id="703174" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Samhi-Hotels" source="Orion">Samhi Hotels</keyword> and Jaipur-based retail jewellery company <keyword id="5871389" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Motisons-Jewellers" source="Orion">Motisons Jewellers</keyword> have received capital markets regulator Sebi's go-ahead to raise funds through an initial public offering. The two firms had re-filed their preliminary papers with Sebi in March this year, and obtained its observation letters during August 28-31, an update with Sebi showed on Tuesday. In Sebi's parlance, its observation implies its go-ahead to launch the initial share sale. As per the draft papers, Samhi Hotels proposed an IPO comprising a fresh issue of equity shares worth Rs 1,000 crore and an Offer For Sale (OFS) of 90 lakh equity shares by existing shareholders. The OFS consists of the sale of 42.36 lakh equity shares by Blue Chandra Pte Ltd, up to 24.78 lakh equity shares by Goldman Sachs Investments Holdings (Asia) Ltd, up to 15.47 lakh equity shares by GTI Capital Alpha Pvt Ltd, and up to 7.39 lakh equity shares by International Finance Corporation. It is a partial exit by the existing shareholders to meet the listing regulations. Earlier, the company filed its IPO papers with Sebi in September 2019 and had obtained the markets regulator's approval in November 2019, to float the initial share sale but the company did not go ahead with the launch. The Gurguram-based company will utilise net proceeds of the fresh issue to the tune of Rs 750 crore towards payment of debt and for general corporate purposes. Samhi has a portfolio of 3,839-key rooms spread across 25 operating hotels in 12 of India's major urban consumer hubs, including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, National Capital Region (NCR), Pune, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, as of February 28, 2023. As of February 2023, it is the largest owner of Fairfield by Marriott and Holiday Inn Express brands in India. It operates under long-term management contracts with global hotel operators like Marriott, Hyatt, and IHG. The IPO of Jaipur-based jewellery retail player Motisons Jewellers comprises fresh issuance of 3.34 crore equity shares and there is no OFS component. The company will utilise the net proceeds from the issue towards repayment of existing borrowings availed by them from scheduled commercial banks, funding the working capital requirements and general corporate purposes. The jewellery maker had filed preliminary IPO papers with the capital markets watchdog in September 2022. However, the regulator returned the draft papers in December. Shares of both companies will be listed on the stock exchanges -- NSE and BSE.

Samhi Hotels, Motisons Jewellers get Sebi nod to float IPO

A jeweller for 25 years, Hukumchand Soni would not have imagined in his wildest dreams there would come a time when he will have to sell vegetables to earn a living. But then these are no ordinary times.His shop-counter, which once remained covered with expensive ornaments, is now occupied by green vegetables and the jewellery scale now weighs potatoes and onions. The "GP Jewellery Shop" in <keyword id="6354779" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jaipur">Jaipur</keyword>'s Ram Nagar has undergone a radical transformation to adapt to the new set of customers who visit it daily. "It's been four days since I started selling vegetables. This is the only way I can survive (the lockdown)," Soni told . "I have no big savings, no big capital, so I started selling vegetables," Soni added. He said his jewellery shop was not big but enough to run his family. After the lockdown began on March 25, all non-essential shops and services were ordered shut and Soni managed for a few weeks but now, he said, he has to find means within the available options to run his household. "We had been sitting at home for so many days... Who will give us money and food? I used to make and sell small jewellery items like rings and used to repair damaged ornaments. I and other shopkeepers are certainly suffering daily losses," he said. The only earning member in the family, Soni said it was not an easy decision to become a vegetable vendor. "At least I am earning now. It is better than sitting at home and doing nothing. I have to pay the rent for the shop. I have to take care of my mother and the family of my younger brother who passed away," he said. He said he goes to the local mandi everyday to get his supplies and transports them to his shop in a hired tempo-rickshaw. "I only know that work is worship. That's it."

As expected, this issue was subscribed within an hour of opening. It was subscribed by 15x on the very first day, with outsized interest from retail investors. Going into the new year too, the IPO season is expected to remain busy, and go on until the general elections in May next year. “Markets are likely to witness a robust capital raise next year as well. There are more than 65 IPO documents filed with Sebi. Of these, 25 have already received Sebi nod,” said Lunawat.

New Delhi, Feb 4 () Setting up of common facility centres (CFCs) in the country for gems and jewellery sector will help marginal workers upgrade their product quality and output, the Commerce Ministry said on Tuesday.
 Gems and jewellery exports account for more than USD 40 billion (about Rs 2.84 lakh crore) annually, employing more than 5 million people across the country.
 The industry has a huge potential to grow and it is the aim of the ministry to boost exports to USD 75 billion (about Rs 5.32 lakh crore) by 2025, it said in a statement.
 It said that one such CFC is being set up in Kolkata for gems and jewellery artisans.
 "This CFC will benefit one lakh artisans engaged in the manufacturing of handmade jewellery in and around Bowbazar, a major jewellery hub of Kolkata," the ministry said. 
 The centre will enhance the productivity and quality of products, especially the small gem and jewellery units, it added.
 Apart from introducing trade-friendly policies for the sector, the ministry is also facilitating the industry through creation of infrastructure in the form of CFCs.
 A jewellery CFC is also being set up at Coimbatore and is expected to be completed by March 2020.
 Similar centres have already been set up at major diamond clusters in Gujarat like Amreli, Palanpur, Visnagar and Junagadh.
 "The objective of setting up CFCs is to give the small and medium jewellery manufacturing units access to a common pool of high-end and capital-intensive state-of-the-art machinery/equipment which is otherwise unaffordable for individual small and medium jewellery manufacturers," it said.
 The SME (small and medium enterprises) units located in small towns like Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Rajkot and interior villages are still operating with old technology, and this has affected the quality of the finished goods produced, it added.
 "The artisans/goldsmiths in these places undertake the work on job-work-basis from wholesale jewellery manufacturer/retail jewellers. They use out dated technology to manufacture the jewellery," it said.
 Usage of technology like casting technology, finishing techniques like tumbling and magnetic polisher are being used only in a few of the units, it added.
 "The CFCs will empower the trade in this sector and increase overall productivity, yield and timely delivery," it said. RR
