His body was brought to the <keyword id="64817" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cricket-Association-of-Bengal">Cricket Association of Bengal</keyword> (CAB) office on Monday to let people pay their last respect to the man who made the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Indian+cricket+">Indian cricket</a> a self sufficient entity. 
 
The former <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=International+Cricket+Council+">International Cricket Council</a> (ICC) president breathed his last on Sunday following a massive cardiac arrest. 
 Dalmiya's final journey began from his 10 Alipore residence. Indian cricket team Director <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Board+of+Control+for+Cricket+in+India+">Board of Control for Cricket in India</a> (<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="60" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>) bigwigs including Secretary <keyword id="6364468" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Anurag-Thakur">Anurag Thakur</keyword> and CAO <keyword id="58721" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Ratnakar-Shetty">Ratnakar Shetty</keyword> were among those who were there to pay homage to the administrator. 
 
His body arrived at CAB office in <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Eden+Gardens+">Eden Gardens</a> at 12.50 pm where dignitaries such as media baron Subhas Chandra paid his last respects to the <keyword id="208612" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="BCCI-chief">BCCI chief</keyword>. 
 
Dalmiya was 75-year-old and is survived by his wife Chadralekha, daughter Vaishali and son Abhishek. 
 He was admitted to the city's <keyword id="3065211" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="BM-Birla-Hospital">BM Birla Hospital</keyword> on Thursday night. 
 
After paying his last respect, Thakur said: "He (Dalmiya) was a dynamic personality and a true sport administrator loved by everyone in India and abroad. He was a visionary leader and a great sports administrator. He will be remembered for bringing in reforms to the game of cricket." 
 
Chandra lauded Dalmiya for bringing in money into the game. "He not only popularized the Indian cricket but world cricket. This game has suffered a great deal due to his absence. He not only brought wealth to Indian cricket but also to global cricket. ICC didn't have even $1000 in its coffers but when he left he brought millions and billions of dollars to ICC," he said. 
 
"I don't think we have someone who can match up to his legacy, it's the saddest day in cricket history, a big loss which would be hard to fill," he added. 
 
The body will be kept at CAB for a couple of hours before the cremation takes place later in the day with full state honours.

BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya's final journey begins

A day after <keyword id="2813848" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Justice-Lodha-Committee">Justice Lodha Committee</keyword> report left bitter impression in the minds of the top players of the cricket fraternity, <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>'s top officials has started working out a contingency plan to ensure that the league remains an eight-team affair as its contract with the broadcasters Multi Screen Media envisages a 60-match schedule. The officials have already started informal discussion on the way forward before the <keyword id="121961" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL-governing-council">IPL Governing Council</keyword> meets for an emergency session in Mumbai on Sunday. <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> Chairman <keyword id="13855" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajeev-Shukla">Rajeev Shukla</keyword> is scheduled to meet BCCI President <keyword id="82274" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Jagmohan-Dalmiya">Jagmohan Dalmiya</keyword> late this evening and tomorrow morning in Kolkata to discuss the implications of the Supreme Court-appointed Justice R M Lodha committee verdict. 

	"We have started discussions on the way forward. We have studied the Justice Lodha committee report, the Governing Council will discuss all aspects of this verdict and decide the future course of action," a top BCCI official told PTI. 
 

	The official said that the Board could possibly explore two options to ensure that the IPL remains an eight-team event. 
 

	"The BCCI can run the two teams for two years and the original owners can come back after the ban period is over. The other option is to invite fresh bids for two new teams since many corporates have expressed an interest in buying an IPL team," he said. 
 

	The problem that BCCI might face if it invites bids for two new teams is that it could increase the number of teams to 10 after CSK and RR complete their ban period. Drawing up a home and away basis schedule for 10 teams could drag the league well beyond its stipulated window of about six weeks. 
 

	There are few members of the BCCI who are keen to invite fresh bids since it will generate more money for the league. 
 

	BCCI running two teams may not be economically viable since the entire cost of managing the team and playing the players their salaries will have to be borne by the Board.

Thakur had also met Khan in Delhi yesterady. 
 As per the news report published in the ET, a few <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> MPs had raised objections to a proposed India-Pakistan series. Modi had told his party men at a BJP parliamentary party meeting on Tuesday that the government has taken a decision to start a cricket series between the two countries to improve relations. 
 PCB chief Khan had said earlier this week, after a meeting with Indian cricket board president <keyword id="82274" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagmohan-Dalmiya">Jagmohan Dalmiya</keyword>, that Pakistan was ready to host India in the UAE in December. 
 A <keyword id="160569" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-official">senior official</keyword> told the financial daily that the home ministry had been broached for its views on the prospect of holding a India-Pakistan cricket series in the UAE and has conveyed that since the series is proposed in a third country, it falls outside the MHA remit. The <keyword id="6354852" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="official">official</keyword> said MHA view is that this is "purely a ministry of external affairs matter as it concerns international relations". "Had the series been proposed in India, we would have surely done a domestic assessment of the same considering the security scenarios. But a series in a third country is purely in the domain of the MEA. This has been conveyed by us," said a <keyword id="1735963" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-home-ministry-official">senior home ministry official</keyword>, on condition of anonymity. 
 
The December series is likely to have three Tests, five ODIs and two T20 matches. Khan, however, was quoted as saying that there was one more hurdle to overcome. 
 A <keyword id="306885" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="senior-BCCI-official">senior BCCI official</keyword> said Khan was referring to differences between the two boards on broadcast rights as PCB has an association with Ten <keyword id="6356028" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sports">Sports</keyword>, owned by <keyword id="2850930" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Subhash-Chandra-run">Subhash Chandra-run</keyword> Zee group. Chandra has been in the news for trying to set up a rival cricketing league and BCCI does not approve of PCB's association with Ten.

The internal political tussle inside the <keyword id="81008" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket-in-India">Board of Control for Cricket in India</keyword> (<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>) seems to find no end. Soon after the former board president and current <keyword id="46227" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-cricket-council">International Cricket Council</keyword> (ICC) <keyword id="6364480" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chairman">chairman</keyword> N <keyword id="45963" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Srinivasan">Srinivasan</keyword> accused BJP MP and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary <keyword id="6364468" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anurag-Thakur">Anurag Thakur</keyword> for hobnobbing a suspected bookie <keyword id="2825420" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karan-Gilhotra">Karan Gilhotra</keyword>, the latter took a dig at Srinivasan in a strongly worded letter. 
 
As per a news report by The Economic Times, Thakur said he has known the person — Gilhotra — as he has been active in political and cricketing activities in Punjab and adjacent states but he had no knowledge or any clue about his 'activities as a suspected bookie'. 
"I have earlier been joint secretary of the BCCI under your president-ship and I am now secretary of the BCCI. I only wish you had shared the list of 'unverified suspected bookies' with me and other colleagues so that we could identify such persons and keep away from them," Thakur said in his letter to Srinivasan. Later in the letter, Thakur took a dig at Srinivasan asking him to also share this information "with your family members, whose involvement in betting has been proved." 
 "You may also share this information with your family members whose involvement in betting has been proved," he wrote. A senior <keyword id="161782" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI-official">BCCI official</keyword> said the board is unlikely to act on the advisory given by ICC. The ICC had sent a letter dated April 22 addressed to board president <keyword id="82274" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jagmohan-Dalmiya">Jagmohan Dalmiya</keyword> informing him about Thakur socialising with Gilhotra just a few days after being elected as the secretary of BCCI. 
 The ICC letter said that its Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) had received unverified information back in 2014 that Gilhotra had been trying to come close to players and support staff of <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> teams. N Srinivasan on his part said that he would respond to Thakur if need be. "If I feel anything about what all Anurag has written, I will personally write a letter to him," Srinivasan was quoted as saying by PTI. 
 
Meanwhile, another BCCI official said that ICC should have sent the letter just as a confidential warning and should not have made it public. As per the ET report, Thakur said that it was curious that the intimation about his having known this 'suspected bookie' was brought to ICC's notice by "your friend Mr <keyword id="1314758" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Neeraj-Gunde">Neeraj Gunde</keyword>", who he claimed operates on Srinivasan's behalf. He also claimed that Gunde has been circulating the details of documents against Srinivasan's critics in the BCCI to the media in Delhi.

In total, 34 TMC legislators have left the party to join the BJP – either due to differences with the party, being denied a ticket this time or due to the belief that their future lies with the BJP, not TMC. Surprisingly, out of the 34 legislators who joined its cadre, the saffron party has given tickets to only 13 of them. Roy will be contesting against Koushani Mukherjee, actor-turned-politician who joined the TMC in January, this year. Domjur – Rajib Banerjee vs Kalyanendu Ghosh Rajib Banerjee, former minister in Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet joined the BJP in January this year. He was elected twice from the Domjur constituency – in 2011 and again in 2016. He will be facing off against TMC’s Kalyanendu Ghosh. Bally – Baishali Dalmiya vs Dr. Rana Chatterjee Baishali Dalmiya was expelled from the TMC for speaking out against the party. She is the daughter of late Jagmohan Dalmiya, former cricket administrator and BCCI president. She will be taking on Dr. Rana Chatterjee from TMC. Diamond Harbour – Dipak Halder vs Pannalal Halder Dipak Halder, a two-time TMC legislator quit the party after speaking out for months against it. He said he was “not being allowed to work for the masses” since 2017. He joined BJP in February, this year. Dipak Halder and Pannalal Halder are not related to each other. Singur – Rabindranath Bhattacharya vs Becharam Manna Rabindranath Bhattacharya quit TMC earlier this month and is being fielded by the BJP from the Singur constituency, despite strong opposition by the party’s cadre who have accused him of getting them arrested when he was the TMC legislator. Ranaghat Uttar Paschim – Partha Sarathi Chatterjee vs Sankar Singha The 62-year-old Partha Sarathi Chatterjee was a former TMC legislator from Ranaghat in 2011. He lost the seat in 2016 to Sankar Singha, who fought on a Congress ticket. Interestingly, Singha has joined TMC and will be defending his seat this year. Jagatdal – Arindam Bhattacharya vs Somnath Shyam Arindam Bhattacharya, a lawyer by profession, will be fighting for the Jagatdal seat on a BJP ticket. He currently represents the Santipur constituency, but this year will see him switch to Jagatdal. Natabari – Mihir Goswami vs Rabindra Nath Ghosh Mihir Goswami, who currently represents the Cooch Behar Dakshin constituency, will switch to Natabari and fight on a BJP ticket. He will take on TMC’s Rabindra Nath Ghosh, who is the incumbent Natabari legislator. Monteswar – Saikat Panja vs Siddiqullah Chowdhury Saikat Panja is the incumbent legislator from the Monteswar constituency, which he won with an overwhelming majority in the 2016 by-election. He will be facing off TMC’s Siddiqullah Chowdhury, who is also the West Bengal president of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind. Kalna – Biswajit Kundu vs Deboprasad Bag The saffron party is fielding Biswajit Kundu, who joined BJP earlier this year. Ironically, Kundu’s nomination triggered a mass switch of 70 party workers to the TMC, who protested against Kundu’s corruption. Pandabeswar – Jitendra Tiwari vs Narendranath Chakraborty Jitendra Tiwari, a TMC heavyweight, joined the BJP after rebelling against the TMC leadership. His entry was initially opposed by BJP minister and popular singer Babul Supriyo, given that both the politicians had faced off in the Asansol constituency earlier. Durgapur Purba – Diptangshu Chowdhury vs Pradip Mazumdar Diptangshu Chowdhury, another senior TMC leader and former advisor to the chief minister, left TMC to fight on a BJP ticket from the Durgapur Purba constituency. Interestingly, Chowdhury was earlier with the BJP before switching to the TMC in 2017. The new BCCI president-elect <keyword id="6359039" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="sourav-ganguly">Sourav Ganguly</keyword>'s on Monday said "it's a great opportunity for him to do something good" as he is taking over the reigns of the board at a time when it's image has got a serious beating. Ganguly pipped Brijesh Patel in a see-saw battle and is expected to be the only presidential nominee. "You need to wait till 3 pm in the afternoon," Ganguly told PTI during an interaction. "Obviously, it's a great feeling as I have played for the country and captained the country. "And I am taking over at a time when BCCI has not been in greatest of position for the last three years. Its image has got hampered quite a lot. It's a great opportunity for me to do something good," said the former India captain, who will have to demit office in July, due to compulsory cooling off period. Ganguly also said his first priority in the short tenure would be to look after "first-class cricketers" The 47-year-old plans to meet all the stakeholders in Indian cricket and wants to do something that Committee of Administrators (CoA) didn't do for 33 months. "We will speak to everyone first as we take a decision but my biggest priority will be to look after first class cricketers. I had requested that to the CoA for three years and they didn't listen. That's the first thing I will do, look after the financial health of our first-class cricketers," said Ganguly, who scored more than 18,000 international runs. Being selected unopposed is a big responsibility, he admitted. "Whether unopposed or not, there has to be responsibility as it is the biggest organisation in world cricket. Financially, India is a cricketing powerhouse, so it will be a challenge," he said. Does he regret that the term will be only for nine months? "Yes, that's the rule and we will deal with it." For someone, who has won many close ODIs for India, Ganguly was emotionally intrigued by how the board room politics worked. "I didnt know I would be the President when I came down. You (reporter) asked me and I told you it's Brijesh and when I went up and I came to know it has changed. I have never been in a BCCI election and I never knew it worked like this," he said. He had a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday and when asked about whether he will have to campaign for BJP in Bengal, he answered in the negative. "No, no nothing of that sort. Nobody told me anything," Ganguly said. Jagmohan Dalmiya has pulled off some amazing board room coups and talking about the late BCCI boss, Ganguly got emotional. "I have never imagined so (that I will be in shoes of late Jagmohan Dalmiya). He has been like a father to me. There has been some great presidents of BCCI, Mr Srinivasan, Anurag, who have done great job," he said. So will it be different from captaincy? Ganguly answered, "Nothing can beat being an India captain."

Sources told Times of India that the matter was discussed during a meeting between BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya and board member and IPL commissioner Rajeev Shukla in Kolkata on Wednesday. 
 
Former Indian captains Sourav Ganguly, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid are being considered for running the two teams. 
 
The news daily reported that the board members were also considering the option of introducing two new franchisees as there is a legal commitment to the broadcaster to run the tournament with a minimum of eight teams. 
 
TOI reported that the board taking over the two suspended teams as a temporary arrangement also has the merit of not needing any fresh auctions for players of the two franchises and therefore avoiding the uncertainty and disruption that the other options would inevitably entail for the players.

Former Indian cricket team captains may run Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings for BCCI

<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>’s crucial Working Committee meeting was adjourned by President Jagmohan Dalmiya after witnessing high drama over the presence of its former chief N Srinivasan. "The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Working Committee meeting was adjourned sine die after deciding to seek the opinion of the Hon'ble Supreme Court whether Mr. <keyword id="151653" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="N-Srinivasan">N. Srinivasan</keyword> could attend the meetings of the BCCI as the authorised representative of Tamil Nadu Cricket Association," BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a brief statement. The working committee was to discuss the report of the four-member working group on the roadmap for conducting the <keyword id="6354312" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> in the wake of the two-year suspension of two franchises -- Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals -- by the Supreme Court-appointed Justice RM Lodha committee. 

	The meeting was postponed as the members argued over the presence of Srinivasan, who was earlier barred by the Supreme Court from contesting the BCCI President's post following the IPL spot-fixing scandal. 
 

	In his defence, Srinivasan, who attended the meeting as President of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, placed Justice Sri Krishna's opinion which said he was entitled to attend the meeting, an official who attended the meeting said. 
 

	But some BCCI members countered that argument and claimed that the Supreme Court had made it clear that he should stay away from BCCI meetings. 
 

	"Since there was no clarity on the legal status of Mr Srinivsan, President adjourned the meeting after the BCCI legal adviser Ushanath Banerjee also said that he was not sure about Srinivasan's legal standing as of now," the official said. 
 

	The official said that Srinivasan was specifically told not to attend the meeting and among those who tried to dissuade him were IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla and BCCI Treasurer Anirudh Chaudhary. However, the Chennai strongman did not give in and attended the meeting. 
 

	Srinivasan tried explaining his stance to the BCCI members by insisting that there was no conflict of interest in his position as an administrator and as owner of Indian Cements -- the company which owned CSK. 
 

	The BCCI, it is learnt, has decided to call an emergency working committee meeting in the first week of September to finalise the date of its Annual General Meeting, which is likely to be held in Kolkata on September 27. 
 

	Today, the working committee was to discuss the Justice Lodha Committee report and the subsequent recommendations of the Working Group. 
 

	The meeting was also set to deliberate on the the Madras High Court order directing the BCCI, India Cements and others involved to submit their counter affidavits to the petition which has been filed by CSK Ltd. 
 

	The High Court has directed the parties to file their written submissions within a certain time period and the next hearing has been scheduled for September 23. 
 

	The two-time champions CSK had moved the Madras HC challenging the suspension. The first bench of the High Court had found the petition maintainable and issued notice to the Board of Control for Cricket in India. 
 

	Other key points on the agenda were the NCA committee recommendations on whether to keep the apex academy in Bangalore, discuss affiliation status of Chattisgarh, Bihar and Manipur and the technical committee recommendation among others. 
 

	Appointment of India's next coach was not on the agenda but the working committee was to ask the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman to finalise the name. 
 Yesterday, the IPL Governing Council had recommended Having two news teams for the next two editions of <keyword id="6354831" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-Premier-League">Indian Premier League</keyword> in place of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals.
