He says he mixes 3 tablespoons of cake mix with 2 tablespoons of water and microwaves it for 1 minute to create fast cupcakes for his kids.</li></ul><p>Baking at home is a great way to pass the time while staying inside, but it can be challenging if you can't find the right ingredients.</p><p>So, Insider asked Jacques Torres — pastry chef, chocolatier, and the head judge on the <keyword id="128682" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Netflix">Netflix</keyword> show "Nailed It!" — to help us create something incredible at home even if you have limited access to ingredients and/or kids that always want to "help."</p><p>Torres, also known as <a href="https://mrchocolate.com/">Mr. Chocolate</a>, came up with something delicious: a layered chocolate mousse dessert to bring a little decadence to our quarantine routine. </p><p>To make the treat, the chef decided to avoid using flour since some people might have had a hard time finding it right now, limiting the ingredients to things many of us probably have in the pantry already while allowing for many substitutions.</p><p>Torres showed me how to make the dessert from start to finish, and demonstrated how to make cake quickly in a frying pan as part of the recipe.</p><p><div type="image" title="Chocolate dessert" height="1619" width="2775" msid="75974061" hostid="261"></div></p><p>As a bonus, he offered a foolproof recipe for when you need a quick cupcake fix: Combine 3 tablespoons of cake mix with 2 tablespoons of water, put it in a cup, and microwave for 1 minute to create fast cupcakes. Pastry chef Jacques Torres shares his easy recipe for a chocolate mousse dessert using pantry items, and it involves baking cake in a frying pan

Then, based on your personal preferences, add something extra to amp up the flavor.</p><p>"Consider melting down some butterscotch chips or white chocolate chips," Tosi said. "Or flavoring your hot chocolate with peppermint extract or a little spoonful of peanut butter."</p><p>"I just think there's a lot more opportunity in the world of hot chocolate," she added. <ul class="summary-list"><li>Alexandra Karplus credits office jobs in New York and Singapore for many of the friendships she's formed over the years.</li><li>Since she started working from home, her personal relationships with coworkers aren't as strong.</li></ul><p>"I want to invite you guys over to my place for Thanksgiving," I told a few <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/office-friendship-dead-remote-work-employers-turnover-great-resignation-2022-4">coworkers</a> while enjoying a picnic at the Singapore Botanic Gardens back in 2008.</p><p>It had been a month since I moved from New York to Singapore, and I felt happily settled in my new life. I was 27, just married, and thrilled to start the next chapter of my life on the other side of the planet.</p><p>A <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/workers-need-career-coaching-basic-social-skills-like-saying-hello-2023-11">welcoming group of colleagues</a> from around the world — whose ages ranged from just out of college up to almost ready for retirement — had contributed to the easy transition. They gave me tips on how to sign up for phone plans, told me about neighborhoods to check out, taught me Singlish 101, and regularly invited me to join them for lunch, after-work drinks, and even a few picnics.</p><p>Additional friends and partners were often invited to tag along, and that afternoon, my husband — as well as one new colleague's fluffy husky — was sitting alongside me on the mat.</p><p>"How are we going to host Thanksgiving? We just moved into our apartment and don't even have plates or cutlery," my husband asked.</p><p>It was a good question. I hadn't considered logistics, nor had I ever hosted a Thanksgiving dinner. My British coworker Peter jumped in and said he'd be happy to have us over at his place. Everyone was excited to join in, although, with no other Americans in the group, it would be the first Thanksgiving for all of them.</p><p>On Thanksgiving day, I prepared stuffing and a few pumpkin pies in my new kitchen. Peter had Skyped his mom back in Guildford for a step-by-step tutorial on how to prepare a turkey, and it was in the oven when we arrived. The other guests showed up with more sides and bottles of wine. I left that night with a full belly and a whole <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-make-friends-as-adult-moving-cities-nyc-la-2023-9">new group of friends</a> to be thankful for.</p><h2 id="9254f92b-c8b9-45f1-8191-a8b1a9f8858f"><strong>I've met some of my closest friends at work</strong></h2><p>Fast forward 16 years — plus two children and a new job — and I'm still happy in Singapore. Because the city has a large transient population, I've seen many friends and coworkers come and go — but even this has had benefits.</p><p>I've attended three weddings of past colleagues in Bali, one of which was for coworkers who had <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/psychology-of-office-romances-2018-5">fallen in love at the office</a>. I've made trips to visit my work friends in their new homes around the world. Those who travel back through Singapore make it a point to plan a get-together when they're in town — usually at their favorite hawker center to eat satay and chicken rice.</p><h2 id="3223581b-1b9d-47c4-92d2-40aa947cc4ef"><strong>Work friendships started back in New York and are still going strong</strong></h2><p>These types of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ways-to-build-strong-and-authentic-relationships-at-work-2021-3">strong connections with colleagues</a> didn't just start in Singapore. The best part about my first job out of college, when I was still living in Manhattan, was our weekly brainstorming meeting. The team manager would bring a brown paper bag filled with bagels, and we'd sit around a table coming up with new ways to improve the site's content. The website didn't last, but the friendships have. My bagel manager has even made it over to Singapore to say hi.</p><p>The next job in New York was the one that eventually transferred me to Singapore. We were publishing inflight magazines from a warehouse-like space in Dumbo, Brooklyn, before it was a trendy part of town. This was where another set of friends came into my life.</p><p>When the weather got cold, we would wander over to Jacques Torres Chocolate for hot cups of spicy cocoa. When we closed a monthly issue, my boss would treat the team to pizza at Grimaldi's. The pizza boss now lives nearby in Bangkok. He visits regularly, and my kids think of him as an uncle.</p><h2 id="a43f80e0-8e26-4773-b4c5-499547a38e4e"><strong>I'm questioning how friendships can grow when we work from home</strong></h2><p>The pandemic changed everything. At the time, I was producing magazines and web content for airlines. Global travel restrictions and lockdowns had a huge impact on the company, and eventually, management had to let go of the majority of our more than 30-person creative team.</p><p>I was lucky and grateful to still have a job. At that point in my career, I was the editorial director, and while I didn't make the final decisions, I was the messenger who told people they'd been laid off. It felt like I had betrayed friends, and it also led me to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/loyalty-employee-employer-job-security-broken-work-companies-bosses-2024-1">question why I had been loyal to that company</a> for so many years.</p><p>In my current job as the lifestyle and culture editor for Business Insider in Singapore, we work almost entirely from home. We have a space in a WeWork, but we also have a remote-flexible work policy globally. New colleagues are given in-person training when they join the company, but the majority of our day-to-day communication happens online.</p><p>There's constant chatter throughout the workday on Slack — colleagues sharing articles, pointing out events, and praising each other's work. We even have a channel to share pictures of our cats.</p><p>But while I like my coworkers and have been in this job for more than a year, these relationships have not grown into friendships.</p><h2 id="ffb6cac4-4d6c-4db4-8b7e-5a3bd0407359">The benefits outweigh the downsides</h2><p>Research shows I'm not alone.</p><p>In June 2022, the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.americansurveycenter.org/research/the-social-workplace-social-capital-human-dignity-and-work-in-america/">Survey Center on American Life</a> surveyed 5,037 American adults about workplace relationships. More than half of those surveyed said they'd met a close friend through their work or a spouse's work.</p><p>Fast forward one year to a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/us-surgeon-general-compares-loneliness-epidemic-to-smoking-2023-5">report on loneliness</a> in the US, released in May 2023 by then-US Surgeon General Vivek Murthy. In the report, Murthy said the number of close friendships had declined. Murthy connected this to technology, a factor that has led to a decline in face-to-face contact and is also what has enabled us to work from home.</p><p>"As we shifted to use technology more and more for our communication, we lost out on a lot of that in-person interaction," Murthy told the <a target="_blank" href="https://apnews.com/article/surgeon-general-loneliness-334450f7bb5a77e88d8085b178340e19">Associated Press</a> in an interview last May.</p><p>Results from a June 2022 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.gallup.com/workplace/397058/increasing-importance-best-friend-work.aspx">Gallup poll</a> of 16,586 working adults highlighted the positive impact that friendship at work could have on business outcomes. But the poll also found that in the US, just two in 10 employees reported having a best friend at work.</p><p>There are <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/i-do-not-miss-office-life-2023-4">benefits to working from home</a>. As a mother, I have time to drop my kids off at school in the morning, as there's no commute. I find a little "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moms-stressed-juggle-family-work-kids-spouse-home-labor-2023-5">me time</a>" with a home yoga session over lunch. There's no one blasting music that's not my jam or stopping me for a meaningless 15-minute chat on the way to fill up coffee.</p><p>Between a mix of one-on-one catchups and team-wide Google Meets — none of which ever run longer than the pre-scheduled time slot — it's easy to follow what everyone is working on, and I rarely feel like my personal time is being encroached upon.</p><p>But <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/how-to-make-new-friends-as-an-adult-arranged-friendships-2023-7">friendships are much harder to make</a> online, and none of my work relationships in this job have managed to cross the threshold into friendships.</p><p>Yes, we have a Slack channel to share pictures of our cats, but I haven't had the pleasure of meeting someone's dog by surprise at a team picnic. I haven't been introduced to any of my coworkers' friends or partners, nor has my husband met any of them. Back in the day, I even picked up some basic mah-jongg skills when an assistant editor invited the whole team over to her mother's apartment to celebrate Lunar New Year.</p><p>When Thanksgiving comes around this year, I'm not sure how my colleagues would react to an invitation to the feast. Maybe we can start off with a picnic.</p>

Want to eat what you see on Netflix? Don’t cook, eat at its new restaurant

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Themed cruises allow travelers to immerse themselves in their passions whether it be cats, heavy metal, or wrestling.</li><li>Norwegian Cruise Line's themed cruises have been selling out in record time and Holland America plans to grow its partnership with charter companies.</li></ul><p>There seems to be a themed cruise for everyone whether you love Star Trek, Chris Jericho, or Broadway musicals.</p><p>For travelers seeking them out, cruises are no longer just about relaxing on a ship while hopping from destination to destination. It's about being surrounded exclusively by a community of people with the same specific interests. And monetizing that passion is becoming a larger  of the <a href="https://www.grandviewresearch.com/industry-analysis/cruise-market-report#:~:text=b.,USD%207.67%20billion%20in%202022." target="_blank" rel="noopener">over $7 billion</a> global cruise industry.</p><div type="image" title="Wrestlers in a wrestling ring surrounded by a crowd on a Sixthman cruise" height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692632" hostid="261" sizebytes="349236"></div><p>At a standard comedy show, the person sitting next to you could either be a casual or mega fan of the comedian. But if you're going on Bert Kreischer's sold-out "Fully Loaded at Sea" comedy cruise in October, there's a good chance everyone around you will be a big fan of Kreischer and his fellow performers. </p><p>"[These cruise goers] are super-fan club members," Jeff Cuellar, Sixthman's vice president of events, marketing, and community, told Insider. Sixthman will operate the upcoming comedy cruise. The company was acquired by Norwegian Cruise Line in <a href="https://www.sixthman.net/norwegian/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2012</a> and now runs itineraries with diverse themes like heavy metal, wrestling, and "emo's not dead."</p><div type="image" title="A person cutting a cake on Entertainment Cruise Productions' Star Trek cruise." height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692635" hostid="261" sizebytes="245608"></div><p>Over the last few years, this promise of community at sea has caught the attention of thousands of travelers. And now, these themed itineraries are selling better than ever.</p><p>Within the last eight months, several of Sixthman's bookings have sold out in record time, Cuellar said. Its Rock the Bells hip-hop cruise sold out in under five days with no publicly announced lineup. EDSea — a wordplay on electronic dance music festival Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) — was similarly booked up in three days with no lineup. Both are sailing this November.</p><div type="image" title="A packed pool deck on a Sixthman cruise." height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692638" hostid="261" sizebytes="400012"></div><p>Sixthman's themed itineraries are so popular, 60% to over 80% of travelers end up rebooking the cruise, turning these vacations into what Cuellar calls an annual "pilgrimage." </p><p>"We're doing pretty darn good," Cuellar said. "Let's keep growing and expanding because there's definitely demand to do this. It's why we keep coming [up] with more programming."</p><p>In the future, Sixthman plans to grow its number of events, genres, and destinations.</p><p>The Norwegian Cruise Line subsidiary isn't alone in this success. Entertainment Cruise Productions operates three themed cruises: Star Trek, the 80s, and High Seas Rally — a floating motorcycle rally. Several staterooms and suites for the <a href="https://highseasrally.com/pricing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2023 motorcycle rally at sea</a>, <a href="https://startrekthecruise.com/pricing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2024 Star Trek</a>, and <a href="https://the80scruise.com/pricing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2024 80s cruises</a> are already sold out. And about two-thirds of travelers will sail again on their respective cruises year after year, Chris Hearing, the company's partner and executive director, told Insider.</p><div type="image" title="A packed pool deck wiuth performers on a Sixthman cruise." height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692643" hostid="261" sizebytes="370012"></div><p>These repeat bookings are music to the cruise lines' ears — it's a mutually beneficial operation for both the themed cruise production companies and the cruise lines themselves.</p><p>To pull off these festivals at sea, themed cruise providers charter full ships from various cruise lines. Over the last few years, Entertainment Cruise Productions has worked exclusively with Royal Caribbean. Sixthman sticks with its parent company Norwegian, of course.</p><p>The cruise line provides the vessel and operations like cleaning and food. The charter company then adds on the immersive "experience." This includes a wrestling ring for the wrestling cruise, a pool deck stage for the music-themed cruises, and all of the related decor and entertainment.</p><div type="image" title="Cooks at an assembly line." height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692645" hostid="261" sizebytes="87408"></div><p>Holland America Line, a Carnival Corp brand, is best known for its premium cruises. But it also has one of the "largest full-ship charter portfolios in the industry," Rob Coleman, its vice president of charter, incentive and series partnerships, told Insider. About 80% of Holland America's full-ship charters — an average of 20 annually — are for themed cruises. Many of these sail at full capacity with a waitlist.</p><p>The cruise line works with over 12 charterers annually. Moving forward, Holland America wants to expand these partnerships: Several of its charterers will be new for 2023 and 2024, according to Coleman.</p><div type="image" title="A themed Holland America Cruise" height="1725" width="2300" msid="98692647" hostid="261" sizebytes="419962"></div><p>But it doesn't just rely on outside providers for these unique cruises. The legacy cruise line also hosts its own themed sailings. Just don't expect the same rowdy crowd you might see on Sixthman's heavy metal "Headbangers Boat" cruise.</p><p>In 2023, Holland America will operate Heritage Cruises and Culinary Cruises. The former — celebrating the cruise line's 150th anniversary — will visit historic global destinations meaningful to the company's history. The latter will then feature a different celebrity chef — from chocolatier and pastry chef Jacques Torres to sushi master Andy Matsuda — on every itinerary. Rather than all-purpose, it called for a mixture of cake and bread flours. The trickiest ingredient was the addition of chocolate feves (specialty flat disks).</p><p>I couldn't find them at local supermarkets, and they were at least $30 online. But in reality, she curses like a sailor.</p><p>At least that's what I learned while talking to Byer over the phone recently as she admitted that even five seasons into the show, she's stunned that her hosting style is beloved for its tameness - especially by children.</p><p>"My comedy is not kid friendly," Byer, 34, told Insider bluntly. "I'm edited that way."</p><p>On "Nailed It!," where she lovingly eats awfully-made baked disasters alongside a startled guest host and her partner in crime, famed chocolatier Jacques Torres, Byer exudes a loving (yet mischievous) persona that makes parents feel comfortable to let their kids watch her antics for hours on end.</p><p>But if you were ever to go to one of her comedy shows, or listen to her podcasts "<a href="https://www.stitcher.com/show/why-wont-you-date-me">Why Won't You Date Me?</a>" and "<a href="https://www.earwolf.com/show/best-friends-with-nicole-byer-and-sasheer-zamata/">Best Friends with Nicole Byer and Shasheer Zamata,</a>" the realization would come quick that Byer actually has a mature persona that kids should stay clear from.</p><p>In fact, Byer said some parents have learned that the hard way.</p><p>"People brought their kids to my comedy shows and rushed out when they heard me swear," Byer said with a devilish laugh. "It's really interesting."</p><p>The result: Byer's star has risen as she's now also hosting alongside John Cena on the latest version of "Wipeout" on TBS and starring in the upcoming NBC pilot, "Grand Crew."</p><p>Insider spoke with Byer about the jokes she's begging "Nailed It!" executives to leave in the show, the guest judge she's desperately trying to book, and why she's hosting "Wipeout" with a dislocated ankle.</p><div type="image" title="NailedIt_S5_Netflix" height="2945" width="3926" msid="82613082" hostid="261"></div><h2>Byer doesn't know if there will be a sixth season of 'Nailed It!'</h2><p><strong>Insider:</strong> <strong>Are you currently between seasons on "Nailed It!"?</strong></p><p>Nicole Byer: Yeah, we only shoot for 13 days. </p><p><strong>In this time, do you talk to the showrunners about ideas and jokes?</strong></p><p>I don't really have anything to do in preproduction, but hopefully I will in the future if we come back.</p><p><strong>Nicole, if Netflix stops making this show we're going to burn the place down. </strong></p><p>[<em>Laughs</em>.] Well, thank you. I honestly don't know if we're coming back. I normally don't get involved until the show starts. </p><h2>She really wants to talk to guests from inside a hamster ball</h2><p><strong>Is there a comedy bit you really want to do and they haven't given you the green light yet?</strong></p><p>Yes. I want to be put in a hamster ball so I can go up and talk to the contestants. You know, there's a barrier, I'm safe. And they were like "No." I also pitched that I want to come out of the ceiling to be six feet away. </p><p><strong>Wait, hanging up there for the entire episode?</strong></p><p>No. Just to start the episode. It's not a thought out bit, but I think it would be funny. Again, they were like, "Nicole, no, we would have to get a stunt person [and] equipment." And listen, I feel both of these are evergreen! These aren't just COVID bits. </p><h2><div type="image" title="NailedIt_Season5_Netflix" height="2945" width="3926" msid="82613087" hostid="261"></div>Byer had no clue drag queens were going to be on the show until she showed up on set</h2><p><strong>Now on the fifth season, you all tweaked it up a bit with having teams, but you also introduced my kids to drag as you had two drag queen contestants. Any fun highlights from doing that episode? </strong></p><p>Forever I had asked [producers], "Can we please have drag queens on the show?" I love drag. I have been involved with drag for a very long time. When I was waitressing in New York 10 years ago, I waitressed in a drag show. So when it happened I was truly surprised. </p><p>I always get contestant bios before the show: their names, ages, pictures of them. And for those two, Selma Nilla and Lagoona Bloo, they had their real names and their pictures were out of drag. </p><p>And I know that a lot of kids watch the show and I think it's good for kids to be exposed to different types of people early in their lives. So when they are in high school or something they don't say awful things about someone. </p><p><strong>When did you know the show was big? </strong></p><p>When my comedy shows started selling out and people would start yelling at me "Nailed It!" I was like, oh, OK. And a lot of my friends will say, "My kids love you, will you make a video for them?" And I'm like, if you know me, I'll make the video. If you don't know me and are reaching out to my publicist, that's <em>wiiilllld</em>!"</p><h2>Byer said her comedy is not kid friendly, she's 'edited that way'</h2><p><strong>Has it been weird to come to terms that kids love you? I mean, you're a mother figure to a lot of kids out there. Is that weird?</strong></p><p>It has never been put like that before. Wow. It is strange because my comedy is not kid friendly.</p><p><strong>But your popularity with kids, has that made you want to expand your brand at all and do something tame like a children's book?</strong></p><p>No, because I don't know how. I don't do child-friendly stuff on the show. I'm edited that way. </p><p><strong>So if we saw raw footage of a "Nailed It!" episode we would hear a lot of F-bombs and raunchy jokes from you?</strong></p><p>Yeah. And Jacques is pretty dirty too. </p><p>So now before episodes when I come out, I tell the contestant that I work a little "blue," a little dirty. I tell them that's how I figure out the comedy and if you are offended let me know. </p><p><strong>Have you ever experienced a contestant saying to you they are offended by what you said?</strong></p><p>No, but I have said things and can see someone's reaction and I'm like, "Sorry, won't say that again." </p><h2><div type="image" title="Nicole Byer Emma McIntyre Getty" height="2664" width="3559" msid="82613091" hostid="261"></div>Byer admitted you have never seen the real her on <keyword id="6355065" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="TV">TV</keyword>, but her podcasts show off what she really loves to talk about</h2><p><strong>Is the real Nicole on your podcasts?</strong></p><p>The real Nicole is at her house and you'll never see that. [<em>Laughs</em>.] Whether it's a podcast or hosting, it's all performance. You're never going to get the real person in a performance. You may get vulnerabilities, but that's different than the real person. I would say though what I like to talk about is more on the podcast. </p><p><strong>Is hosting "Wipeout" very different than doing "Nailed It!"?</strong></p><p>"Wipeout" is super, super different. There's the day time stuff [when] we just do audio recordings. There's the Wipeout Zone stuff that me and John are actually there for. I had dislocated my ankle right before we started shooting and I like to move my body a lot, but I didn't want to reinjure myself so it was really hard to do. </p><p><strong>How did you dislocate your ankle?</strong></p><p>It's not even interesting, I fell down my stairs. I mean, I got into a motorcycle accident and I wasn't injured but then I take a tumble down the stairs and that gets me. </p><p><strong>Hold on. So you were riding a motorcycle and fell off, but didn't injure yourself?</strong></p><p>I was with my friend who had a motorcycle and I wanted to learn so we were in Griffith Park [in Los Angeles] and I felt I was getting the hang of it. I'm going around and I hear my friend say, "Diva, you're doing so well," but then I got up to a turn and was like, "I don't know how to do this," and ran right into a fence. And then I heard, "Diva, noooo!" I messed up the bike a little bit but I was fine. </p><p><strong>So, no more motorcycles, right? </strong></p><p>No, I went out and bought one. </p><p><strong>[<em>Laughs</em>.] Nicole, be careful. </strong></p><p>That's what everyone tells me after I tell that story. </p><h2>She wants Beyoncé to be a guest judge on 'Nailed It!'</h2><p><strong>So give me the one guest you would love to get on one of your podcasts. </strong></p><p>Ben Affleck. But boy, can he play.</p><p>You see, Neymar's a player who has a penchant for dribbling, who possesses the ball skills and playmaking ability of his Barça predecessor Ronaldinho, and is a forward who, put quite simply, scores great goals for fun. He's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/most-valuable-footballers-in-the-world-2019-1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">considered the third most valuable athlete in soccer</a> right now, above Cristiano Ronaldo and above Lionel Messi.</p><p>That's Neymar. Surely you've heard of him. If you haven't, he gained international pedigree when he joined FC Barcelona for four seasons from 2013, where he quickly became a crucial part of the famed three-man "MSN" attack that featured Messi and Luis Suarez.</p><p>He won two La Liga titles, three Copa del Rey trophies, and the 2015 UEFA Champions League during his time at Camp Nou. He was regularly seen as one of the top five players on the planet, banged in 105 goals from 186 games in all competitions, and completed highlight-reel plays that delighted fans and media alike, like this:</p><p>He seemingly had it all, but at 25 - four years younger than Messi, a player he could have gone on to replace, perhaps even emulate - he gave that up to smash the world transfer fee record and move to Paris Saint-Germain.</p><p><strong><em>Read more: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/neymar-cannot-escape-lionel-messi-shadow-2018-10" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Neymar is still being upstaged by Messi despite leaving Barça to escape living in his shadow</a></em></strong></p><p>A <a href="https://edition.cnn.com/2017/08/28/football/neymar-football-transfers-premier-league/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$261 million fee</a> was agreed and Neymar moved clubs, leagues, and countries in 2017 in a deal that sent shockwaves around the globe.</p><p>But less than two years into his Ligue 1 career in France, the forward apparently wants out once again, and could therefore become soccer's first half-a-billion-dollar player in the process.</p><p>He has, after all, already <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/ronaldo-neymar-and-the-top-10-combined-transfer-fees-of-all/i7bsoy1o3ei61wzlx4mibi3u8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">generated $350 million in combined transfer fees</a> when taking into account his 2013 move from Santos to Barcelona, and his 2017 transfer from Barça to Paris. A summer transfer back to Spain, this time to Madrid, could add a further $250 million to his career transfer fees to date - making his combined lifetime transfer fees $600 million, a world record.</p><p><strong>How do we know he might be on the move?</strong></p><p>Well, there are 5 factors that suggest another transfer is coming, and it could come in a matter of months.</p><ol><li><strong>There is reportedly growing pressure on PSG to be compliant with financial fair-play regulations.</strong></li><li><strong>The rapid emergence of Kylian Mbappe means the club is less reliant on Neymar.</strong></li><li><strong>Neymar is apparently unhappy in Paris, and dreamed of playing for Real Madrid as a kid.</strong></li><li><strong>Neither Neymar or his father/agent have ruled out a summer switch.</strong></li><li><strong>Real itself wants, and needs, a Galactico-style signing to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and elevate a failing team - and Neymar fits the bill perfectly.</strong></li></ol><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><h2>1: Pressure to be Financial Fair Play compliant</h2><p><a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/real-madrid-swoop-for-neymar-could-rule-out-eden-hazard-transfer-p2d75q37l" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Times</a> reports that PSG is "under pressure" to "adhere to UEFA Financial Fair Play regulations."</p><p>Financial Fair Play regulations are in place to avoid what has commonly become known as "financial doping." <a href="https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/11023034/psg-and-man-city-accused-of-financial-doping-by-la-liga-president-javier-tebas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">PSG has even been accused of financial doping</a> by the La Liga president Javier Tebas, because of its recent mega signings.</p><p>Financial doping occurs when a soccer club injects massive amounts of cash that it did not raise itself through commercial deals, gate receipts, or player sales. This money, potentially gifted or loaned by a wealthy owner, is said to be used in player recruitment and designed to make teams competitive at the highest echelons of world soccer. PSG's <a href="https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11820/11016126/uefa-to-investigate-paris-st-germain" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dual signings of Neymar and Mbappe for around $500 million led UEFA to open an official investigation</a> into the club's dealings, to learn whether it was compliant with Financial Fair Play.</p><p>Selling Neymar would raise $261 million because of the likely transfer fee, and also save PSG approximately <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/neymar-net-worth-salary-contract-psg/1kvfsexg0npxf15gn60ol0zknl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$41 million a year</a> in wages. Facilitating the sale could mean PSG wouldn't have to concern itself with Financial Fair Play regulations.</p><p>Paris Saint-Germain has yet to respond to Business Insider's query as to whether it needed to sell a player to become Financial Fair Play compliant, and whether it would consider selling Neymar.</p><h2><span style="color: #000000;">2: The rise of Kylian Mbappe means Neymar may not even be missed</span></h2><p>Kylian Mbappe is a versatile player who excels as a center forward, as a winger, or even as an attacker in a more withdrawn role.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>But the reason he excites is not where he plays, it's how he plays. Mbappe channels the true greats of soccer because he has the pace and wing-forward instincts of an in-form Thierry Henry, the dribbling finesse and the ability to manipulate space like Brian Laudrup, and the scoring instincts and prolificacy of the former Brazil striker Ronaldo.</p><p><strong><em>Read more: <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kylian-mbappes-one-touch-volleyed-goal-is-a-work-of-art-2019-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kylian Mbappe's latest one-touch volleyed goal was a work of art that channelled some of football's biggest legends</a></em></strong></p><p>Mbappe burst onto the soccer scene with AS Monaco in 2016, made a mega money move to PSG within a year, and won the FIFA World Cup with France while still a teenager in 2018.</p><p>Now 20, Mbappe is the second-greatest performer in Ligue 1 this season <a href="https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/74/Tournaments/22/Seasons/7344/Stages/16348/PlayerStatistics/France-Ligue-1-2018-2019" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Whoscored.com data</a>. Though he may be second only to Neymar, the youngster actually has a superior striking efficiency with a goal scored or created once for every 56 minutes he's been on the pitch, compared to Neymar's average of one goal every 59 minutes.</p><p>As Mbappe is still young he will only improve with every season as he continues to grow as a professional soccer player. He is, after all, still six or seven years away from his athletic prime, <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-28254123" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the BBC</a>.</p><p>But Mbappe has been shining even without Neymar, who has been sidelined with a recurring foot injury since mid-January. With Neymar out of the PSG team, Mbappe has revelled and shouldered the goal-scoring burden with aplomb.</p><p>In the seven games Mbappe has played while Neymar's been in rehab for his foot, the Frenchman has scored seven times and provided one assist. He's <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kylian-mbappe-paris-saint-germain-beat-manchester-united-result-2019-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">helped the team beat Manchester United</a>, scored <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/kylian-mbappes-one-touch-volleyed-goal-is-a-work-of-art-2019-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">jaw-dropping goals</a>, and <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/watch-psg-beat-montpellier-result-5-1-2019-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ensured PSG remains dominant</a> in Ligue 1.</p><p>Mbappe has shown PSG it doesn't need Neymar, especially if that Neymar is unhappy.</p><h2>3: Neymar is reportedly unhappy in Paris</h2><p>The Spanish journalist <a href="https://elpais.com/deportes/2018/02/12/actualidad/1518467012_638195.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Diego Torres, writing in the daily Spanish newspaper El Pais last year</a>, said Neymar does not enjoy the Parisian weather, is isolated from his teammates, and chooses to spend time with his entourage rather than the team.</p><p>And Italy's English language <a href="https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/psg-concerned-about-neymar-situation-amidst-real-madrid-links-53266" target="_blank" rel="noopener">soccer website Calciomercato</a> said he "seems to be regretting his world record switch," that "the environment and defensive approach to the game that exists in Ligue 1" is disappointing, and that he was enraged when PSG fans booed him in January.</p><p>One thing that could solve his reported unhappiness is the realization of a childhood dream - and that dream was to play for Real Madrid.</p><p>He was even trialed at Real when he was a young teen, <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2015/12/16/18383022/how-neymar-nearly-moved-to-real-madrid-with-robinho-in-2005" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Goal.com</a>. In 2005, aged 13, Neymar spent 19 days at Madrid, watched home games at the club's impressive Santiago Bernabeu stadium, and took photographs with the team's top players like Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldo, and Roberto Carlos.</p><p>"The Real Madrid dream is a reality," a teenage <a href="https://www.goal.com/en/news/1717/editorial/2015/12/16/18383022/how-neymar-nearly-moved-to-real-madrid-with-robinho-in-2005" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Neymar said at the time, to ESPN Brazil</a>, 14 years ago. Ultimately Neymar did not join the club on a full-time basis. He returned to Brazil, blossomed at Santos, and did not fly back to Spain until he joined Barcelona nine years later.</p><h2>4: He refuses to rule out a summer switch to Real</h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Both Neymar and his father/agent Neymar Snr. have refused to completely rule out a blockbuster move.</p><p>The player told Globo earlier this week that "Real is one of the biggest clubs in the world," <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-kw/news/nobody-knows-the-future-neymar-admits-real-madrid-attraction-but-/3igjovfpbuu41re5xqwhr8jrm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Goal.com</a>. He then said "everyone that is followed by Real Madrid would feel attracted to play there," said he was "happy in Paris," but concluded by remarking that "no one knows the future."</p><p>Neymar's father was just as ambiguous during a <a href="https://www.tf1.fr/tf1/telefoot/videos/psg-neymar-sr-fils-heureux-a-paris.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Telefoot interview</a> recently. He said his son "feels very happy in Paris," that his "present is in Paris," but that "it's hard to talk about the future because in football, it can change at any time."</p><p>And change may be coming for Neymar Jnr. "Madrid is a very big club, any player with quality would like to wear their shirt," <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/news/neymar-on-real-madrid-rumors-any-player-with-quality-would-want-to-wear-their-shirt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">he said, according to CBS Sports</a>.</p><p>Perhaps pre-empting the reaction that quote would receive, he added: "For God's sake, I'm not saying I'm going to play for Real Madrid, calm down. I'm not saying that."</p><p>However, Neymar is certainly one of the "players with quality" he mentioned.</p><h2>5: Real wants, and needs, a player with quality</h2><p>Real Madrid is a team whose players are used to being the kings of Europe. For the last three seasons in a row, with Zidane on the touchline and Ronaldo on the pitch, the team kept winning the UEFA Champions League.</p><p>But with Zidane gone and Ronaldo sold, the team is in disarray. On Tuesday, March 5 the club was completely humiliated in the Round of 16, as Ajax stunned Real 4-1 on the night and 5-3 on aggregate - the team's worst European run for a decade. It is also third in La Liga, five points behind local rival Atletico Madrid and a dozen adrift of bitter enemy Barcelona.</p><p>Something has to change. The two-time Champions League winning coach Jose <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/real-madrid-ajax-jose-mourinho-next-manager-uefa-champions-league-ucl-a8807906.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mourinho has been linked with a return to the Bernabeu</a> dugout, while <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/european/real-madrid-ajax-champions-league-out-manager-next-transfer-news-bale-neymar-eriksen-highlights-a8809406.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Independent</a>, <a href="https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12691/11475655/european-paper-talk-real-madrid-prepare-neymar-bid" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sky Sports</a>, and <a href="https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/neymar-still-destined-to-make-real-madrid-move-rivaldo/1pgb27z3afo7e1bgomvgo6x7yv" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Goal.com</a> have all published Neymar transfer rumors in the last nine months.</p><p>Those close to Real have made it no secret that the club desires Neymar, and have even made public pitches to the player.</p><p>Real president Florentino Perez used a World Player of the Year ceremony to woo Neymar in front of the watching world. Knowing Neymar desires world number one status, he said it would be easier to achieve that if he was in Madrid. <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/uk-soccer-spain-mad-neymar/come-to-madrid-and-youll-win-ballon-dor-real-tell-neymar-idUKKBN1E21E5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">According to Reuters</a>, Perez said: "Real Madrid is a club which gives all you need as a big player, everyone knows that I already wanted to sign him at one point."</p><p>The Spanish soccer expert Guillem Balague, who presents for Sky Sports and has written books about Pep Guardiola, Messi, and Ronaldo, said Neymar "fills the void" left by Ronaldo. In the <a href="https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2808193-barcelona-cant-afford-neymar-real-madrid-favourites-says-guillem-balague" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bleacher Report</a>, Balague said: "There's nobody that he [Perez] sees that could have the commercial impact of him but also on the pitch as well." Balague added that Neymar "definitely wants to leave" PSG.</p><h2><strong>So what does all of this mean?</strong></h2><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>There are enough factors at play to reasonably conclude that there is credibility in the transfer rumors linking Neymar with a headline-grabbing summer move from PSG to Real.</p><p>Real has courted him in the past, Neymar has spoken glowingly of the Madrid club before, and the transfer benefits PSG because it helps ensure Paris becomes Financial Fair Play compliant while not weakening the team because of the incredible form of Mbappe.</p><p>There may even be a transfer fee ready to agree. <a href="https://www.marca.com/en/football/real-madrid/2018/10/18/5bc8676846163f8f928b4567.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MARCA, the national Spanish daily newspaper, reported that a release clause in Neymar's PSG contract becomes active</a> in the coming months. This clause reportedly means Neymar can be bought out of the deal should PSG be reimbursed the same fee it paid Barcelona in 2017.</p><p>That's $261 million.</p><p>On top of all the transfer fees he's already generated, it would mean Real may well be a matter of months away from unveiling the sport's first half-a-billion-dollar player based on combined transfer fees alone.
