New Delhi, <keyword id="47954" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="JSW-Energy" source="Orion">JSW Energy</keyword> Ltd on Friday announced appointment of <keyword id="2514251" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sharad-Mahendra" source="Orion">Sharad Mahendra</keyword> as Joint Managing Director and CEO of the company. His appointment is effective from February 1, 2024, the company said in an exchange filing. "Consequent to the vacancy created on account of Prashant Jain's decision to take early retirement, Sharad Mahendra has been appointed as a Whole-time Director (Joint Managing Director &amp; CEO - Designate) with effect from December 1, 2023," JSW Energy said. His appointment as a Whole-Time Director is effective from December 1, 2023 for a term of 5 years. Mahendra will take charge as Joint Managing Director and CEO with effect from February 1 next year. Jain will continue to be Joint Managing Director &amp; CEO till January 31, 2024. Prior to this appointment, Mahendra was CEO of JSW Steel Coated Products Limited (a 100 per cent subsidiary of JSW Steel Limited). He has worked with JSW Energy earlier as well as Chief Operating Officer (Energy Business) in 2017 where he led the power sales, mining, corporate commercial, legal, coal procurement, regulatory and corporate affairs functions. In 2019, he was appointed as a Whole-Time Director of the company. He left JSW Energy in 2020 to join as CEO of JSW Steel Coated Products Limited.

India’s total steel exports increased by 74% in two years over FY20 to FY22 to 20.5 million tonnes, which led to improved capacity utilization of the steel industry to 83% in FY22 from 79% in FY20. The export tax will also reduce the margins on steel exports, which were attractive for the last one year. It also downgraded SAIL to Hold from Buy while cutting its target price to ₹75 from ₹125 earlier. Analysts assume that the producers’ exports will reduce by 50%. “This will lead to increased steel supply in the domestic market which will lead to reduction in domestic steel prices,” Ashish Kejriwal, research analyst at Centrum. He assumes ₹5,000 per tonne reduction in domestic steel prices owing to increased supply in the domestic market. “The move will severely impact domestic steel prices and in turn profitability of steel players, given elevated coking coal prices. We believe lower earnings would impact growth capex, increase debt on the books and lower steel sector valuation,” said a report by Sharekhan. Tata Steel, JSW, SAIL and JSPL will lose half of their export biz as government wages war on inflation

Mumbai, Feb 4 () JSW Energy on Tuesday reported over twofold rise in net profit to Rs 394 crore for the December 2019 quarter, boosted by Rs 454-crore one-time income. The company, which had clocked a Rs 146-crore net profit in the December 2018 quarter, had a tax write-back of Rs 277 crore and a contingent consideration write-back of Rs 177 crore. Its total income fell to Rs 2,106 crore from Rs 2,491 crore as demand was subdued, reflecting the broader economy that has been in the dumps since the beginning of the financial year. "It has been a challenging quarter as power demand declined almost 6.2 per cent, mainly due to poor economic activity. While October witnessed a 13 per cent decline in demand as against a 12 per cent increase last year, November and December were relatively better," JSW Energy joint MD and CEO Prashant Jain told reporters. He added that the company has already seen the bottom in the demand slowdown. "As the economy is expected to bottom out, we will see a revival in the demand." The firm's total expenses also dropped to Rs 1,864 crore as against Rs 2,271 crore in the October-December quarter of 2018-19, mainly on the back of decline in fuel cost, which was a result of moderation in the imported coal prices and lower generation. Explaining the write-back gain on contingent consideration, Jain said the company has written off Rs 570 crore of loan to Jai Prakash Venture Ltd (JPVL), which has been adjusted against reversal of the existing provision of Rs 454 crore and a write-back of Rs 177 crore of JPVL contingent consideration payables in the company's books, resulting in a net gain of Rs 61.46 crore in third quarter of the current financial year. "The debt restructuring agreement with JPVL now stands completed as we have acquired a five per cent equity stake in the firm, in addition to Rs 120 crore continuing as loan repayable from JPVL to the company," Jain added. He also said both JPVL and JSW have agreed to forego their respective rights and obligations in relation to the securities purchase agreement signed in 2015 for transfer of Karcham and Baspa hydro assets. On the acquisition of GMR Kamalanga Energy of 1,050 megawatts (MW), he said the discussions are progressing well between the company and GMR Energy for an expeditious closure and it hopes to sign the transaction in a couple of weeks. "For Ind-Barath Energy (Utkal) of 700 MW, the approval by the National Company Law Tribunal is under process for the resolution plan submitted by the company. Given the time taken for these resolutions, we expect it to be completed by June this year," he added. During the quarter, the company completed the transfer of JSW Energy (Kutehr) to JSW Hydro Energy, wholly-owned subsidiary. Short-term sales during the quarter were lower at 541 million units as compared to 1,112 million units in the third quarter of 2018-19 due to lower short-term sales at both Ratnagiri and Vijayanagar plants. "Benchmark indices saw moderate gains, mirroring global trends after the US FED decided to maintain its interest rate, as widely accepted. The US central bank hinted at potential rate cuts while remaining cautious about sustaining the high inflation trend," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services said. The broader market largely traded range-bound, while positive commentary from the auto companies on recent volume numbers led the sector to outperform, Nair added. Goods and Services Tax collections grew 12.4 per cent to a record high of Rs 2.10 lakh crore in April, aided by strong economic momentum and increased domestic transactions and imports, the Finance Ministry said on Wednesday. "Trading in the markets remained lacklustre, closing marginally higher amid a blend of signals. The Nifty commenced positively but remained confined to a narrow range throughout the day, eventually settling at 22,648.20 on the weekly expiry day. Auto sector has lots to celebrate Further, the auto industry also has a reason to celebrate since the budget has removed custom duty on capital goods imported for the manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries used in electric vehicles (EVs). The move is to reduce the cost of EVs in the country. A proposed reduction of basic customs duty rates on goods other than agriculture and textiles from 21% to 13% is seen as another positive, while the relief in taxes is also expected to boost consumer spending by salaried consumers. Also, the finance minister said that more funds would be allocated towards scrapping old vehicles by the central government. "In addition to the vehicle scrappage policy announced in Budget 2021-22, more funds have been allocated now to support efforts to scrap old vehicles under the central government. States will also be supported to help them scrap old vehicles and old ambulances," said Sitharaman in her budget speech. This is seen boosting the commercial vehicles industry. The significantly higher capex allocation will support the commercial vehicles industry and will be positive for multi-axle vehicles and tippers, said Crisil. “Increase in spending on infrastructure, setting up of 50 new airports and heliports, creation of 100 transport infrastructure projects are welcome moves, in addition to the central support for replacing old vehicles. Hotel stocks are among favourites Shares of hotel companies rose on Wednesday after the finance minister announced that the government will promote tourism in the country. "Promotion of tourism will be taken up on mission mode with the active participation of states, the convergence of government programs &amp; public-private partnerships," said Sitharaman in her budget speech. There is a large potential to be tapped in tourism. The sector holds huge opportunities for jobs and entrepreneurship for youths, she added. “There is a huge thrust on the tourism sector in the budget. 50 domestic destinations will be selected and uplifted. Domestic tourism will be promoted as an alternative to international tourism. We have seen Samhi Hotels, Oyo, Ixigo planning their IPO in 2023. If you look at Easemytrip, which got listed in 2021 has created huge wealth for investors (and is) also announcing high growth in topline and bottomline,” said Manish Khanna, co-founder at Unlisted Assets. Adani Enterprises Billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Group is in talks to buy out GVK and some of its partners in the Mumbai Airport as it aims to become the country’s biggest private airport operator. Adani Group is in talks to acquire a 50.5% stake held by GVK Group in Mumbai International Airport (MIAL) and another 23.5% of minority partners, Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), and Bidvest Group, two sources with knowledge of the matter told PTI. The shares of Adani Enterprises ended 7% higher on Monday. Axis Bank Axis Bank on Monday said it would acquire 17% stake in Max Life Insurance instead of the 29% proposed earlier as per a revised deal. Axis Bank currently holds about 1 per cent stake in Max Life and is the biggest banking channel partner for the distribution of the insurer’s products. Products sold through the bank reportedly account for 54% of Max Life’s revenues. The shares of Axis Bank ended 2% higher on Monday. GMR Infra GMR Infra board to consider raising of funds of up to ₹5000 crore in one or more tranches, through the issue of securities as an enabling resolution as per the requirements of applicable laws which shall be subject to the approval of shareholders. The shares of GMR Infra ended 5% higher on Monday. Wipro Wipro announced a partnership with Standard Initial Margin Model (SIMM) vendor, Quaternion Risk Management. As part of the deal, Wipro will offer SIMM-in-a-box to financial institutions covered under Uncleared Margin Rules (UMR). The shares of Wipro ended nearly a percent lower on Monday. Allcargo Logistics The promoters of Allcargo Logistics have proposed to delist the company shares as part of its efforts to pare debt, the company said in a stock-exchange filing on August 24. The shares of Allcargo Logistics ended nearly a percent higher on Monday. LIC Housing Finance Mortgage lender LIC Housing Finance reported a 34% jump in its net profit to ₹817.48 crore for the quarter ending June helped by lower provisioning. The total income of the company rose to ₹4,977.49 crore in April-June 2020 from ₹4,807.21 crore in the year-ago quarter, according to a regulatory filing. The shares of LIC Housing Finance ended nearly a percent lower on Monday. JSW Energy JSW Energy said that its Executive Director Jyoti Kumar Agarwal, who is also the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), has tendered his resignation and will step down with effect from September 15. In a regulatory filing, the company said that Agarwal has decided to pursue career opportunities outside the company. The shares of JSW Energy ended 2% lower on Monday. Indian Energy Exchange Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) on Monday said its board of directors had accepted the resignation of its Managing Director and CEO Rajiv Srivastava. The company has given Satyanarayan Goel the additional charge of Managing Director and CEO. “Board of directors of the company at its meeting held today, i.e. August 24, 2020, has approved the resignation of Rajiv Srivastava, Managing Director &amp; CEO of the company, who has tendered his resignation on August 24, 2020, from the board of the company, due to his personal reasons,” the company said in a stock-exchange filing. Top stocks to watch on Tuesday— Future Retail, Adani Enterprises, Wipro, Axis Bank, GMR Infra, LIC Housing Finance and more

New Delhi, Nov 27 () Indian companies should purchase stake in Russian coal companies operating in its far east region in order to bring down the coal price and improve their port capacity to handle large ships, said a senior official of Far East Investment and Export Agency (FEIEA) on Tuesday.
 Currently, Indian steel and energy companies such as Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), Tata Steel, JSW, Adani Group, and Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) have shown interest in importing total nine million tonnes of coal annually from the Russian firms operating in the far east region.
 However, Indian companies have raised issues related to high price of coal, lack of port capacity to handle big ships, etc.
 Executives of the Indian companies met senior Russian officials such as Nikolay Kudashev, Russian ambassador to India, and Leonid Petukhov, CEO, Far East Investment and Export Agency (FEIEA) on Tuesday in the presence of Union Petroleum and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
 After the meeting, when asked if the issues related to high coal prices in far east region of Russia were discussed during the meeting with Indian companies, Petukhov told reporters, "Yes, this issue was raised...Whatever the prices are, they are big always for the buyer, and small always for the seller. Given the turbulence, I think the high prices are bad for steel makers and good for the coal producers."
 "For me, the only way on how to basically stabilise it is to get the equity, to get the share. The steel company, through whatever facility, (should) buy equity stake in the producer of the Russian coal," he said.
 Most of the coking coal companies operating in far east region of Russia are publicly listed companies.
 According to Petukhov, Indian steel companies also raised the issue that it needs ports where big ships can come to take coal as it will bring cost down.
 "Most of the Russian coal producers have ports ...In order to bring the costs down, you need to invest money in the ports. So, bringing this equity is very important so that these things (coal costs and logistics) can be synchronised," he added.
 In September this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that USD one billion line-of-credit for the development of Russian far east region.
 Petukhov said, "My dream is to have an equity participation of Indian companies into Russian existing producers, where the money would not be taken from the (Russian) company, and would rather be utilised to develop the (Russian) company and its ports."
 When asked if Indian steel companies can buy majority stake in such companies, he said, "It depends on the size. It depends on the particular case."
 He said that a committee chaired by the Russian Prime Minister decides if such an investment can be permitted. This committee looks at different criteria - type of the mineral or natural resource, size of the deposits, etc - according to Petukhov.
 On the issue of Indian companies showing interest in doing such investments in coking coal companies in far-east region of Russia, he said, "I would never say yes or no because they are mostly public companies. It will influence their stock performance. I am not allowed to do that."
 "But, I would say this much, should they not be interested, we would not be sitting here discussing (the matters)," he added.
 As Indian steel companies have been trying to find the right mix between India coking coal and Russian coking coal, Petukhov informed that a few shipments of the coal have come to India from far-east of Russia for this purpose only.
 "This was the goal of this exercise of sending these first shipments. And we were informed today that yes...they (Indian companies) have found the right use. So, basically what happens is that they add Russian coal to the existing mix, and couple of reports stated that it was successful," he added. DSP SMN

Indian steel firms should invest in Russian coal cos to bring down coal price: FEIEA official

MUMBAI: The markets are on a roll, with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> and Nifty making fresh life highs, led by gains in banks, auto and energy counters. 
 
The new life high for Sensex is 26,356.24; and that for Nifty is 7,865.85. 
 
The Nifty extended its winning streak for fifth consecutive session and hit an all-time high as FIIs continued to pump in dollars in Indian markets on expectations of pick-up in economy 
 
Sudip Bandyopadhyay, President, Destimoney Securities, is of the view that the market will continue to move upwards. 
 
“A lot of FIIs money is coming out of Russia into Indian markets through BRICS fund. Domestic investors are also entering the market and that is providing support,” said Bandyopadhyay. 
 
At 2:02 p.m.; the 50-share index was at 7,860.95, up 69.25 points or 0.89 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 7,865.85 and a low of 7,779.20 in trade today. 
 The S&amp;P <keyword id="35140" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BSE">BSE</keyword> Sensex was at 26,340.82, up 237.59 points or 0.91 per cent. It touched an all-time high of 26,356.24 and a low of 26,075.28 in trade today. 
 
Sandeep Tandon of Quant Broking is of the view that market went through consolidation in the last three months. It is light at the moment and looks set for next leg of upmove. 
 
The CNX Midcap Index rallied 1.27 per cent and the CNX Smallcap Index surged 2.10 per cent. 
 
Among the sectoral indices, the CNX Bank Nifty was up 1.49 per cent, the CNX Auto Index gained 1.02 per cent, the CNX Energy Index rose 1.42 per cent. 
 
The CNX FMCG Index was down 0.75 per cent and the CNX IT Index slipped 0.51 per cent. 
 BPCL (up 5.25 per cent), <keyword id="6355975" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Axis-Bank">Axis Bank</keyword> (up 3.11 per cent), <keyword id="45008" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Power">Tata Power</keyword> (up 3.04 per cent), BHEL (up 2.91 per cent) and Tata Motors (up 2.87 per cent) were among the major Nifty gainers. 
 
ITC (1.92 per cent), Infosys (1.01 per cent), HCL Tech (0.80 per cent), HDFC (0.70 per cent) and TCS (0.68 per cent) were among the index losers. 
 
The market breadth was positive on the NSE with 1090 gainers against 425 losers. 
 
Foreign institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 625.18 crore and domestic institutional investors were net buyers worth Rs 135.75 crore on Thursday as per the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.
