COVID-19: JK Tyre comes up with a hand sanitiser brand

New Delhi, Apr 7 () In a bid to support the country's fight against COVID-19, JK Tyre and Industries Ltd on Tuesday said is providing food supplies to over 10,000 daily earners and migrants in every region, besides organising health camps in 25 villages in the vicinity of its manufacturing facilities across India. The company, in a statement, said it is extending support to government officials, police department and government hospital employees with packed food and drinking water with the help of NGOs.Already, more than 50 plus medical camps have been set up in several villages to conduct first-level screening for COVID-19 symptoms among citizens and awareness drives were conducted for 5,000 truck drivers, suppliers and vendors.Additionally, district health departments have been provided with ambulance, safety materials, masks, soaps and hand gloves. Isolation wards have been created near the plants and infrastructure support is being provided at primary health centers, it added.Further, the company has also set up a Corona Task-Force to undertake measures for supporting the needs, health and well-being of colleagues, partners, and their families.Initiatives like virtual training sessions and interactive webinars with medical experts are being organised to help them cope with the impact of COVID-19, it added."We all are faced with an unprecedented challenge and the world has become as one community in its efforts towards arresting the spread of COVID-19," JK Tyre and Industries Chairman and Managing Director Raghupati Singhania said. JK Tyre provides food supplies to over 10k migrants, daily workers

New Delhi, Jan 30 () JK Tyre &amp; Industries on Thursday reported a 61.8 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 10.27 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2019.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 26.89 crore for the October-December period of 2018-19.
 Total income rose to Rs 2,207.07 crore for the period under review as compared with Rs 2,741.73 crore for the same period of previous fiscal.
 "It was indeed a challenging quarter for the automotive industry. Passenger and commercial vehicles have witnessed a drastic cut in production," JK Tyre Chairman and Managing Director Raghupati Singhania said in a statement.
 The company has dealt with this difficult situation by focusing on replacement sales and exports, he added.
 JK Tyre shares on Thursday ended 7.33 per cent down at Rs 77.75 apiece on the BSE. MSS SHW

JK Tyre Q3 net dips 62 pc at Rs 10 cr

New Delhi, Jan 6 () JK Tyre &amp; Industries expects exports to grow around 50 per cent in the ongoing fiscal to clock over Rs 800 crore, which along with domestic replacement market will help offset decline in direct sales to automobile makers, according to a senior company official.
 Due to the ongoing slump in the Indian automobile sector, the company has seen contribution from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) segment to its overall sales decline to around 20 per cent from an earlier 32-33 per cent.
 "We could actually combat that slowdown in OEMs (sales) to a large extent through increase in sales in the replacement market and exports," JK Tyre &amp; Industries CFO Sanjeev Agarwal told .
 For example, he said in December JK Tyre's exports have gone up by more than 40 per cent and in the replacement market it grew by 18 per cent.
 "Similarly, in the first nine months, the growth has been very good in the export market segment and also in replacement market. These have become a saviour for us and we could actually turn around the situation of decline in the OEM segment," he added.
 Elaborating, Agarwal said in the first nine months, exports have grown by around 40-45 per cent resulting in revenue clocking over Rs 800 crore as compared to Rs 550 crore in the same period last fiscal.
 In the replacement market, he said the company has clocked "double digit" growth without sharing absolute numbers.
 On the outlook for the ongoing fiscal he said,"Definitely in the export market we will register almost about 50 per cent growth. In domestic market also we are expecting 12-14 per cent growth."
 These will basically offset loss of sales in the OEM segment, he said adding "OEM has come down from about 32-33 per cent last year to about 20 per cent this year."
 Agarwal said the company has also gained from anti-dumping duties imposed on Chinese tyres in the US, which is "a very important market where we have expanded our distribution network with specific products launched for the market".
 Also, in the domestic market Chinese imports have come down substantially in the last couple of years due to anti-dumping duty and anti-subsidy duties, which was levied last year thereby helping domestic manufacturers, he added.
 "In this year this (Chinese imports) will go down by around 3-5 per cent," he added.
 On the outlook for fiscal 2020-21, he said,"We are seeing green shoots in the auto sector...OEM segment will come back and this will pick up. We will continue to focus on the segment of exports and replacement market in the new financial year as well."
 On the export front, he said JK Tyre has been focussing on Europe, the US and some of the Middle East markets which will help it in further increasing overseas shipments.

Cooling crude oil prices – companies in these sectors could benefit the most

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/48355650.cms" /> Shares of <keyword id="45666" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="JK-Tyre">JK Tyre</keyword> &amp; Industries, a mid-sized tyre maker, jumped more than 4 percent after the company reported a sharp jump in quarterly profit on the back of a fall in raw material prices. 
 
JK Tyre said its first quarter Net Profit rose 113 percent to 118.1 crore rupees compared with 55.4 crore rupees in the same quarter a year ago. Sales during April-June fell 4.7 percent to 1,777 crore rupees from 1,864 crore rupees in the year ago period as Chinese rivals dumped tyres into India after the US imposed heavy anti-dumping duties to protect its own markets. 
 
Tyre makers have seen prices of input costs such as natural rubber go down sharply as a global downturn in commodities resulted in lower raw material costs. 
 
Meanwhile, JK Tyre rose 4.3 percent, or 5.30 rupees, to 122.70 rupees, a record high on the National Stock Exchange, where 48 lakh shares were traded by 11 am compared with the 5-day average of 64 lakh shares. 
 
JK Tyre's market capitalisation has jumped 95 percent in the past one year to 2,819 crore rupees as investors bought into India's auto boom and tyre companies enjoyed lower raw material costs.

Shares of JK Tyre jumped 4%. Know why

New Delhi, Apr 19 () An "integrated effort" with help of the RBI's monetary policy and the government's fiscal policy coupled with a close coordination of the Centre and states is needed to "put things on track and restore normalcy" as soon as possible, according to JK Organisation Director Harsh Pati Singhania. Stating that the recovery process would start from the front end with the consumers start purchasing, Singhania urged the government to help the people bring their confidence back with more direct cash transfers and other measures to help the industry pay wages. "It has to be an integrated effort which would be done with help of monetary policy of RBI, the fiscal policy of the government coupled with a close coordination of the centre and state in a federal structure which help put things back to on track and restore normalcy at soon as possible in these unprecedented times," Singhania, director of JK Organisation, told . Over the measures announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday, Singhania said it could also have helped the industry particularly micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with easy and low interest loans as it was linked to the livelihood of several people. "It's not only about restarting production and business but it's also about restoring the livelihood of people. Without adequate earnings and availability of cash in hand, there would be no demand and consumption; in the absence of which the economy would not take off or be stable," he said. Over the impact on the indian industry, he said that definitely the April-June quarter has been impacted and the July-September quarter may also be affected. According to him, it would be different from sector to sector as some would recover faster but there would be some, like the service sector, which would take longer time to comeback. "But, it's quite clear that if you look at Q1/FY21, there would certainly be an impact because of lockdown, activity is affected in April. Even in May, they will pick up gradually. Definitely, Q1 (first quarter of the current financial year) is going to be affected. I think that Q2 may also be affected as some businesses would have a deeper impact or a continued impact and some businesses may be able to get to a quicker recovery. But, I do not know whether any business will be back to almost normal in Q2," he added. On being asked as to whether it would impact the entire first half (April-September) of the ongoing fiscal, Singhnia said: "Yes, because there would be a gradual opening of the economy. It's not the matter of manufacturing units starting up or a company starting up. The entire ecosystem has to function at the same level as dealers, distributors and the demand by the consumers. "They (consumers) would have to buy at the same level before the shutdown happened," he said adding that "there would be disturbance. Obviously, Q1 would be more severe than Q2, in which the business would start coming back depending on the nature". Though the government is asking the industry to pay the wage of the employees, it should also compensate some part of that. "All the economies in the world are doing this and we would have to resort to this, otherwise the economic impact would be so enormous and very difficult. It's not only the business, it's matter of job and livelihood," he said adding that the "lockdown was absolutely necessary but now we have to get back to track". JK Organisation is a USD 4-billion Indian manufacturing conglomerate with 47 manufacturing facilities of products like tyre, paper, cement, auto components, dairy, and agriculture products. The company has already re-started production in some units where it has received approvals from the authorities, he said. Need an integrated approach to restore normalcy post lockdown: JK Organisation's Singhania

Chinese companies are already dumping between 50-80,000 tyres each month into India. These tyres are about 20 percent cheaper compared with locally made Indian tyres. An estimate by the tyre industry body suggests that 1-in-4 truck tyres sold in India is made in China and 1-in-5 car tyres sold in India originates from across our northern neighbour. 
 
And now with an even cheaper currency, things are turning from bad to worse for Indian tyre makers. 
 
As a consequence, Modi Rubber plunged 5 percent to 34.30 rupees. JK Tyres lost 2.75 percent to 113.05 rupees. Goodyear fell 2.65 percent to 614.75 rupees. Ceat was down 2.4 percent to 994.60 rupees. MRF dropped 1.64 percent to 43,757 rupees and Apollo Tyres was down 1.2 percent to 206.60 rupees. 
 
The United States recently imposed a 90 percent additional duty on Chinese tyre imports in a bid to save its domestic tyre makers.

Who are the people we worship? Are they all white, straight men? Ryan Coogler's movie was the first time many children of color around the world saw themselves in the main characters on the big screen."Black Panther" was a celebration of Black culture in one of the biggest, most talked-about movies of the year. And, while <a href="https://www.vox.com/culture/2018/2/23/17028826/black-panther-wakanda-culture-marvel">others can describe</a> how groundbreaking and revolutionary "Black Panther" was far better than I can, it's not hard to see the positive impact the movie had in terms of representation.It's time that Feige and the <keyword id="412910" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="MCU">MCU</keyword> embraced the <keyword id="729067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="LGBTQ">LGBTQ</keyword> community in the same way.<h2>The story so far</h2>So far, the MCU has had one openly LGBT character in the entirety of its 23 films. That was "Avengers: Endgame" director <a href="https://deadline.com/2019/04/avengers-endgame-marvel-first-openly-gay-character-directors-joe-russo-anthony-russo-discuss-1202601583/">Joe Russo himself making a cameo</a> in "Endgame." Russo played a man in Steve Rodgers' support group post-snap who casually mentioned that he went on a date with a guy.<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1PjuixX7d5k" frameborder="0"></iframe>To be clear, my face lit up in the cinema when watching this, and it was exactly the sort of representation that we sometimes need — a character who just so happens to be gay, but it isn't made into a big deal. The fact that I was so happy about this five-minute scene, however, proves how starved the LGBT community has been for representation in mainstream movies.The character wasn't even named. In 23 movies, that was all we got.The future does, however, look a little more rainbow-coloured.<div type="image" title="Tessa Thompson Valkyrie and Brian Tyree Henry" height="1200" width="1600" msid="76840411" hostid="261"></div>In July 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie is bisexual, with a promised story about said sexuality to come in Taika Waititi's upcoming fourth "Thor" movie, "Love &amp; Thunder."Meanwhile, the <keyword id="2430108" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Marvel-Cinematic-Universe">Marvel Cinematic Universe</keyword>'s upcoming movie "The Eternals" is reported to include the MCU's first openly gay characters and couple — Brian Tyree Henry's Phastos and Haaz Sleimen's character, who is unnamed as of yet, will play husbands.These are positive steps for the MCU, and bold ones. An interracial gay couple and a Black, bisexual woman are characters I'm excited to see on screens.However, it may not be enough.As a gay man, I am worried that once again, the LGBT characters are going to be sidekicks to the straight leading characters, a pattern that has been repeated throughout the history of mainstream cinema.<h2>Having queer representation in Marvel movies 'would be massive'</h2>What this sidelining of queer characters does is essentially send the message to young LGBT kids that they aren't worthy of leading status, and straight people come first.<div type="image" title="Black Panther hed" height="1200" width="1600" msid="76840413" hostid="261"></div>What we need is a superhero film where the leading character is a queer one. This would let queer people know that they are important, and, as "Alex Strangelove" director Craig Johnson told Insider, "would be massive.""What something like that does is it just normalizes the queer identity," Johnson said. "It makes it part of the fabric of our world, and certainly the Marvel movies are our current myth-making movies. Superhero movies are now our legends and our myths in our contemporary culture. Having that kind of queer representation within that, where everyone goes to see them and talks about them, especially young people, would be massive."It wouldn't just help queer kids, either. It would also help non-queer children view LGBT people in a much more positive and empowering light. Fellow queer director Wash Westmoreland, who helmed "Colette" and directed Julianne Moore to a best actress Oscar win for "Still Alice," agrees that "superheroes have devolved into polytheism, like ancient Rome or ancient Greece.""There's a continuation of that into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But, clearly, these barriers exist to representation. Who are our gods? Who are the people we worship? Are they all white, straight men? No.""'Black Panther' showed that there are African-American and African superheroes. 'Wonder Woman' shows that there are female superheroes. These barriers have been broken one by one, but the queer barrier seems to be one of the last, because superhero comic culture has grown out of quite a masculine cultural place that has resisted queerness. But now it's time, and I look forward to seeing what powers the queer superhero has."<div type="image" title="Le Fou Beauty and the Beast" height="1200" width="1600" msid="76840416" hostid="261"></div>While "Black Panther" was able to deal, as director Ryan Coogler told <a href="https://time.com/black-panther/">Time</a>, "with issues of being of African descent" head-on, there seems to be a reluctance to embrace queer issues in the same way.Instead, LGBT representation in a lot of Disney films, which the MCU is part of, is dealt with in a cloak and dagger manner. They may pop up every now and again, but it won't really be addressed — like Le Fou in "Beauty and the Beast" and his easily-removed-for-other-countries dancing scene.Fantasy author Alex London spoke to me about JK Rowling's "Harry Potter" series for a previous story, and his sentiment applies to the MCU, too: "Queer kids see that they don't get to be part of the story, that they aren't worthy of heroism. And then their straight peers also see that, and it sends a message to them that says: 'Something is wrong with these people.'"Everyone deserves to be seen as heroic and magical and worthy."I hope that Valkyrie and Phastos are given storylines that embrace and confront queer issues and queerness directly, but even if they are, a leading gay superhero is still needed to tell LGBT kids across the world that they can be superheroes, too. The reaction to Feige saying that Valkyrie is bisexual is the perfect example of why better and greater LGBT representation is needed in mainstream works. Some suggested the move was Disney trying to push an "agenda" while another <a href="https://twitter.com/Albertomalerto1/status/1152867504735313925?s=20">asked</a>: "Can we stop pushing/forcing lgbt into movies?"The idea that a move for representation was seen as "forcing" queer people into movies suggests there's still an issue with how queer people are viewed in society. In reality, some screen time is finally being given to a group of people who have been short-changed by the film industry for years.No one would ever suggest studios should "stop forcing heterosexuality into movies," because straight is the default.<h2>The mainstream, LGBT movie 'Love, Simon' was revolutionary</h2>The first time I saw myself properly reflected on screen was in 2018's "Love, Simon."I was 23 years old. The experience of actually seeing a character I could fully relate to, a character who was going through the same problems and situations and interactions that I'd been through, was overwhelming.<div type="image" title="Love, Simon" height="1200" width="1600" msid="76840420" hostid="261"></div>I sobbed five times in the theater, and from the sounds of other sniffles, I knew I wasn't the only gay person doing so. It felt so good to finally be understood and acknowledged by mainstream cinema. I often think about what I would have done to have had that film when I was a 10-year-old kid struggling with my sexuality, entrenched in fear, doubt, and anxiety.It's not an overstatement to say that one film could have saved me from years of repression and internalized homophobia. I probably would have come out, and been happy within myself, far sooner.Instead, I grew up feeling alone — with society and mainstream media very much reaffirming my fears that to be queer was to be the opposite of normal.I'm sure "Love, Simon" had the same impact on many kids around the world, but a superhero movie could do the same thing on a much larger scale.<h2>Superheroes are pretty gay anyway</h2>Queer director Daniel Ribeiro, who directed "The Way He Looks," told Insider: "I've always thought 'X-Men' was just a big queer movie, so I think everyone who is LGBT knows what they are talking about in a way. Being an X-Men is being queer. 'X-Men' does a great job as a metaphor of people being treated differently for being different."Indeed, "X2" even has a mock coming-out scene when Ice Man (who is gay in the comics) comes out as a mutant to his parents — who even ask him "have you tried not being a mutant?"<iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/QL__AjJr688" frameborder="0"></iframe>Even as a kid, I was aware that it was clever and funny, although, again, the lack of queer superheroes sent the message that LGBT characters did not belong in those positive positions as superheroes. They would riff off of queer culture, and the unfortunate things that queer people are forced to go through, like coming out, but would refuse to actually put them on screen.As Craig Johnson pointed out to me, though, superhero movies already have a lot of queer sensibilities anyway."My personal favourite superhero movie is 'Batman Returns,' with Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. I think that is a perfect superhero movie. The dialogue sounds like it was written by drag queens. Talk about queer sensibilities," Johnson said."That one actually has them. And yeah, the action is great, it's never a joke, the whole thing is taken seriously, it's beautifully designed. It's so stylish."Superheroes and comics are always chopped and changed and given new versions of themselves. Peter Parker started off as Spider-Man, but we eventually got a Black Spider-Man in Miles Morales. They could be introduced in their own standalone film, à la Iron Man or Thor or Captain America, and then join their wider teams in the bigger movies, like the "Avengers."Ice Man, an X-Man, is actually gay in the comics, while fellow X-Man Northstar married his partner Jinadu in the comic's first-ever gay wedding.
