Supply chain systems were disrupted due to movement restrictions between districts and states. Moreover, over the past few months we have been watching migrant workers struggling to go back home. Most of the construction work is carried out by migrant labourers so even when the country is slowly unlocking, there is a shortage of workers in the sector. However, there are early signs of recovery, as pointed out by Pushp Raj Singh, President Marketing, JK Cement Ltd. (Grey Cement Business). He shared with us that construction activities have slowly started and the brand is witnessing good demand from rural areas. While the urban demand and projects are still subdued, there is hope that things will improve considerably in the next few months. Singh also talks to us about how the brand came up with strategies to keep its employees motivated during these adverse times when there was hardly any business. Excerpts: Q) Since the lockdown led to a complete halt in construction projects, what kind of business impact have you faced since the lockdown started? There has been a slowdown in the businesses all across. Supply chain system came to a standstill due to inter-district and interstate movement restrictions. Moreover, the movement of migrant laborers is a major concern from long-term business recovery point of view. It is also a reason the construction activities in urban and city markets have still not fully recovered even after the unlock process has started. However, at a time of uncertain socio-economic conditions, we have been working on cost optimization by taking some healthy measures such as going paperless. At the same time, we also ensured that the morale of our employees remains high. We connected with our on-ground teams regularly through the online medium. Rather, we went one step ahead by making new employees join through e-joining. Q) Have things now started coming back to normal in terms of business? What is your recovery strategy? The lockdown period was definitely difficult for us. However with Unlock 1.0 announced by the government, construction activities have started and we’ve witnessed a good demand from rural areas. The urban demand and the projects continue to remain subdued, which we hope will improve considerably in the coming months. With the easing of the lockdown restrictions, the transport sector is also improving, and we hope that we are able to see a boost in our business in the upcoming months. Going forward, once the government push comes into effect and we see major activities in infrastructure, road projects, housing for the under-privileged (Pradhan Mantri Gramin Awaas Yojana), the consumption is expected to further go up. Seeing the impact of the pandemic, we took some important decisions to make certain changes, both concerning our business and for our employees. It has been a learning experience for us and the journey of learning continues. Now, as the unlock process has started, we have been ensuring that our ground force team is taking all the necessary precautions while going to the market. Q) How did you communicate with your consumers during the lockdown? What were the mediums that you used the most? Today’s customers and clients look for an understanding of what a brand stands for. The only way to accomplish this is with a strategic and consistent representation of the brand in every channel. Having a positive impression in the minds of our target audience and businesses translates directly into stronger brand equity. To begin with, we already had a media mix consisting of, OOH, print media, electronic media, etc. However, with the lockdown, our efforts became more focused on digital media strategies. We launched the #YehPuccaHai campaign to communicate with our audiences during the lockdown period, keeping our rural audiences also in mind. Additionally, we also wanted to portray the toil of our construction workers who work day and night to ensure that we live in safe homes. With this campaign, we wanted to highlight the social and emotional quotient associated with laborers. Construction workers are the ones who are at the base of any construction cycle and often their work is not given the credit that it deserves. Workers are one of the major pillars of a safe nation and it is only their hardwork that ensures that all of us can live comfortably. Q) Did you primarily depend on the digital medium, and increase your spends than otherwise? Do you plan to stick to this strategy even after the lockdown? We did rely on the digital medium as our marketing strategy primarily. Brands are keeping digital at the centre of their marketing strategy during the <keyword id="8764728" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19">COVID 19</keyword> era and have opened themselves to a host of platforms, tools, and communication channels. The new normal of marketing would include brands having wider reach across digital mediums and stronger targeting. Today, brands are mastering working on numerous platforms from messaging apps, social media sites, advertisement to search engine tools, influencer marketing and so on. Among marketers, apart from the traditional ATL and OOH <keyword id="852798" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing-strategies">marketing strategies</keyword>, digital marketing strategies such as digital promotion, conferences and campaigns are significantly rising. With the lockdown affecting our business, we made a COVID-19 response playbook ready for our stakeholders talking about our action plan ahead. We provided our employees with adequate PPE kits, sanitisers, monitoring mechanisms etc to ensure their safety. Hence, this lockdown period was a good learning experience for all of us. We were also constantly in touch with our on-ground teams on a weekly/ bi-weekly basis. As a company, we always take the best care of our people first. Employees are the bedrock for any company and this is a virtue that we firmly believe in. We have also launched a campaign for our #SuperDrivers who drive miles to ensure that our raw materials are transported all across the country. Often, their efforts are not recognized in the mainstream discussion, however they are a valuable asset for all of us and contribute greatly to our nation’s development. With the huge success of the #YehPuccaHai campaign, we also learned the importance of leveraging digital medium. Q) What is your vision for the brand? JK Cement is seeing good demand from rural areas as country is opening up: Pushp Raj Singh

New Delhi, Apr 3 () JK Organisation, which has diversified interests including tyres, cement and paper, on Friday pledged Rs 10 crore for fight against the coronavirus pandemic. While a large part of the fund will go to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund in fighting COVID-19, the rest will be utilised in meeting the immediate needs of communities and migrant labour, currently underway, at several locations across the country, the organisation said in a statement. "The relief work which has been undertaken by the member companies – JK Tyre, JK Paper, JK Lakshmi Cement, JK Fenner and others - are going on for quite some time at several places, includes distribution of food, drinking water, masks, sanitisers, safety kits for various front line workers of health and sanitation departments, creation of isolation wards etc," it said.Commenting on the initiatives, JK Organisation President Bharat Hari Singhania said: "Integral to our philosophy of making a substantive impact on the ground and working for the needy, we have been fighting the battle at several fronts by supporting the communities, helping migrant labours and our own employees families residing at our plant townships." The organisation is also constantly looking at ways to plug the shortfall of masks, protective gears, sanitisers and other items of necessity at the community level, the statement said. JK Organisation is also supporting government officials, police department and government hospital employees with packed food and drinking water with the help of NGO's. The organisation has also been supporting the district health department by providing ambulance, safety materials, masks, soaps, hand gloves to sanitary workers in municipal corporations, it added. In more than 150 villages around JK Organisation's plant across several states, the company has educated people about COVID-19 through public address systems, door-to-door visits, banners and posters at prominent locations and fumigation drives. More than 20,000 masks and sanitizers in the villages have also been distributed in its fight against coronavirus. The organisation has also set up 50 medical camps in several villages to check for symptoms. Awareness sessions were also conducted for nearly 5,000 truck drivers, suppliers and other vendors, and provided with masks as well as sanitizers. JK Organisation pledges Rs 10 crore to combat coronavirus

New Delhi, Jan 28 () JK Lakshmi Cement on Tuesday reported a multifold jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 50.84 crore for December quarter 2019-20, helped by cost reductions.
The company had posted a profit of Rs 3.22 crore in October-December period a year ago, it said in a regulatory filing.
Revenue from operations during the quarter under review was up 3.79 per cent at Rs 1,077.92 crore as against Rs 1,038.46 crore in the year-ago period.
"During the quarter Company has been able to reduce its logistics cost substantially as well as improve its product mix to cut down the cost further. The fuel prices have softened further," J K Lakshmi Cement said in a post earning statement.
"These cost reductions enabled the Company to post an EBIDTA of Rs 166.59 crore in October-December 2019 from Rs 112.19 crore in October-December 2018," it added.
Total expenses were at Rs 1,015.84 crore as against Rs 1,049.89 crore, down 3.24 per cent.
Shares of JK Lakshmi Cement on Tuesday settled at Rs 370.55 apiece on the BSE, down 0.99 per cent from the previous increase. KRH ANU

JK Lakshmi Cement Q3 profit at Rs 51 cr

While announcing the <keyword id="6360189" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-Budget">Union Budget</keyword>, <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance Minister</keyword> <keyword id="42575" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Jaitley">Arun Jaitley</keyword>, announced a record allocation of Rs 3.96 lakh crore to infrastructure sector. As per the experts, rise in allocation to infra space will help cement and steel sector in coming years. 
 After the development, cement stocks such as ACC and Andhra Cement were trading higher by 0.80 % and 1.23%, respectively. Other stocks like <keyword id="134115" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Heidelberg-Cement">Heidelberg Cement</keyword> and JK Lakshmi Cement were also up by 1.06 % and 0.51%, respectively. 
 
However, the BSE Metal index was trading 0.56 % down at 3054.75 and metal and mining stocks such as Moil, Orissa Mine, NMDC, Sail, Coal India and Apollo Tyres were trading higher by 0.60%, 0.91%, 0.56%, 0.47%, 0.44 %and 0.32%, respectively. 
 The <keyword id="4126676" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bse-india-infrastructure">BSE India Infrastructure</keyword> index was jumped as much as 0.6 % after the announcement.

New Delhi, Jan 24 () Udaipur Cement Works Ltd, a subsidiary of JK Lakshmi Cement Ltd, on Friday reported a net profit of Rs 97 lakh for the third quarter ended on December 31, 2019.
The company had reported a net loss of Rs 12.05 crore in October-December quarter a year ago.
Its revenue from operations during the quarter under review was at Rs 158.65 crore as against Rs 137.78 crore of the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal.

New Delhi, Feb 1 () Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman's major announcements on infrastructure as well as logistics sector will create rural demand and boost employment opportunities, Cement Manufacturers Association (CMA) said on Saturday.
 Priorities given to household, roads, railways, economic corridors, solar power, accelerated development of highways should help boost development and wealth creation besides reviving cement demand, CMA said in a release.
"The emphasis on highways and roads development is well placed. This captures the priorities of economic development and an aspirational India. We would hope that rural demand gets revived and it assists in job creation," said Cement Manufacturers Association President Mahendra Singhi.
Over the national logistics policy, he said CMA is already engaged in a dialogue with the government on this.
"We are actively engaged in a dialogue with the Ministry of Commerce on the National Logistics Policy and would expect some of our considerations for upgradation and modernisation of rail infrastructure are particularly carried through," Singhi added.
While presenting the Budget for 2020-21, Sitharaman said a national logistics policy will be released soon which will set up a single window e-logistics market and focus on employment generation and making MSMEs competitive.
"We would look forward to these taking shape. The reaffirmation of commitment towards clean air, climate change mitigation efforts are most welcome. More policy interventions to revive real estate and housing would be welcome. Infrastructure development, new 100 airports and emphasis on road would go a long way to revive cement demand", Singhi said.
CMA is the apex representative body of large cement manufacturers in India. 
CMA Vice President Neeraj Akhoury said focus on project preparation facilities for infrastructure projects and the national logistics policy that will be released soon should help boost infrastructure and have a positive impact on the economy.
"Priorities given to household, roads, railways, economic corridors, solar power, accelerated development of highways should help boost development and wealth creation. The cement industry is committed towards playing a strong role in the government's aspirational agenda for transformative economic growth," he said.
Dalmia Bharat Group Managing Director Puneet Dalmia said budget has focused on rejuvenating economic growth and the government has taken focused steps.
"A lot now hinges on the government's ambitious National Infrastructure Pipeline programme that aims to attract investments of over Rs 100 lakh crore in the next five years. If the 6,500 identified projects are executed well, this one single programme has the potential to significantly alter the Indian landscape, create lakhs of jobs, provide robust business to ancillary industries like steel and cement, and prime the broad economy," he said. 
Managing Director Jindal Stainless Abhyuday Jindal said "I believe that the Indian industry will reap huge benefits from the proposed National Logistics Policy. The stainless steel industry is expecting a boost from the announcement of accelerated development of highways, ports, airports, railways and station redevelopment projects along with renewed emphasis on water management measures."
Harsh Pati Singhania, Director JK Organisation said "the budget focus on agriculture to double farmers' income by 2022 and also infrastructure, including affordable housing is welcome.
