Lok Sabha Election 2019 Second Phase - 95 Constituency Candidate List from Key Parties

A staggering 93 per cent of the candidates who won the 2024 <keyword id="56978" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha-elections" source="Orion">Lok Sabha elections</keyword> are <keyword id="6366800" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="crorepatis" source="Orion">crorepatis</keyword>, up from 88 per cent in 2019, according to an analysis by poll rights body <keyword id="484381" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Association-of-Democratic-Reforms" source="Orion">Association of Democratic Reforms</keyword> (<keyword id="45376" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ADR" source="Orion">ADR</keyword>). The top three wealthiest candidates are TDP's Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani from Andhra Pradesh's Guntur constituency with assets worth Rs 5,705 crore, BJP's Konda Vishweshwar Reddy from Telangana's Chevella with total assets amounting to Rs 4,568 crore and BJP's Naveen Jindal from Haryana's Kurukshetra with assets worth Rs 1,241 crore. Out of the 543 winning candidates, 504 are crorepatis, the analysis found. In 2019, 475 (88 per cent) winning candidates were crorepatis and 443 (82 per cent) in 2014. The trend indicates a steady climb since 2009 when only 315 (58 per cent) MPs were crorepatis. According to the analysis, 227 (95 per cent) of the BJP's 240 winning candidates, 92 (93 per cent) of the Congress' 99, 21 (95 per cent) of the DMK's 22, 27 (93 per cent) of the TMC's 29 and 34 (92 per cent) of the Samajwadi Party's 37 candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs 1 crore. All winning candidates of the AAP (3), the JDU (12) and the TDP (16) are crorepatis, ADR data showed. The analysis also delves into candidates' chances of winning based on their financial backgrounds. It found that the probability of a crorepati candidate clinching victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections stood at 19.6 per cent, compared to a meagre 0.7 per cent for candidates with assets less than a crore. The analysis also provides a breakdown of wealth distribution among the winning candidates. The data showed that 42 per cent of the candidates possess assets totalling Rs 10 crore and above. While 19 per cent of the candidates fall within the bracket of Rs 5 to 10 crore, 32 per cent hold assets ranging between Rs 1 and 5 crore. Only about 1 per cent of the winning candidates have assets worth less than Rs 20 lakh. Among major parties, the average assets per winning candidate vary significantly. The TDP leads with an average of Rs 442.26 crore per winner, followed by the BJP with Rs 50.04 crore, the DMK with Rs 31.22 crore, the Congress with Rs 22.93 crore, TMC with Rs 17.98 crore and SP with Rs 15.24 crore. The analysis also highlights disparities within the financial profiles of winning candidates. While some boast of substantial assets, others have relatively low worth. For instance, BJP's Jyotirmay Singh Mahato from West Bengal's Purulia has declared assets totalling a mere Rs 5 lakh. Similarly, TMC's Mitali Bag from West Bengal's Arambag holds assets worth Rs 7 lakh. Assets of SP's Priya Saroj from Uttar Pradesh's Machhlishahr are valued at Rs 11 lakh. In addition, the analysis identifies candidates with high liabilities. TDP's Pemmasani tops the list with liabilities exceeding Rs 1,038 crore. DMK's S Jagathratchakan from Tamil Nadu's Arakkonam has liabilities worth Rs 649 crore and TDP's Prabhakar Reddy Vemireddy from Andhra Pradesh's Nellore has liabilities worth Rs 197 crore.

Patna, Feb 25 () RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday rubbished the budget presented by the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar as a bundle of lies and charged it with having left the state with no governance. The Leader of the Opposition made the points during the debate on the budget in the assembly, where he spoke for more than an hour and reeled out statistics to buttress his claim that economic growth under the much-maligned tenure of his parents, Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, was no less impressive. He also belittled the governments claim that the states economy has grown eight times since the NDA came to power and pointed out that economic progress between 1989- 2005, the period which saw Bihar being ruled by his father and then his mother was also eight-fold. In this backdrop I wonder what is so spectacular about economy having grown from Rs 30,000 crore to more than Rs two lakh crore under Nitish Kumars rule which loves to blow its own trumpet, he alleged. Peeved at NDAs repeated allegations of RJDs reign having been a jungle rule, Yadav compared the regimes narrative to a parable wherein thieves ran away with a buffalo and one of them ran to the opposite side with the bell tied around the animals neck clanging to mislead the people. Alleging that the government was plagued by inefficiency and corruption, Yadav claimed that in the current fiscal the government is yet to utilize a major portion of the budgetary allocation. The RJD leaders comment was an obvious reference to the poor show by JD(U) in assembly elections, for which the rebellion by Chirag Paswan's LJP is blamed. Many in the chief ministers party believe that LJP had BJP's tacit approval. He also sought to tease the BJP, which has emerged numerically stonger to the JD(U) in the state election, remarking You have the upper hand in terms of the number of members in the state cabinet. But do take note, the chief minister has kept most meaty portfolios with his own party. Turning towards a BJP minister, he said A piece of advice from me dont ever dare to put your signature against a file noting. You never know when there will be a regime change and probe agencies will come hounding you out. He also cited a Transparency International report to claim that assertions of clean administration notwithstanding, Bihar was ranked second in the list of states with most widespread corruption. He also alleged that the state government had been the least forthcoming in replying to RTI queries. Referring to a speech by Kumar inside the House a couple of days ago in which he had paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Yadav said Political differences aside, my father and I have always had great respect for the deceased leader. But his NDA government had more than a dozen ministers from undivided Bihar. They failed to secure for the state its rightful due. Something my father did under Manmohan Singh. A total of 163 ( 68 per cent) out of the 241 winners in the Bihar Assembly polls have declared criminal cases against themselves in the poll affidavits, with <keyword id="42678" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="RJD">RJD</keyword> topping the list with around 73 per cent, Bihar Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said. Of the 163 MLA-elects, 123 (51 per cent of total affidavits analysed) have serious criminal cases pending against them, including those related to murder, attempt to murder, kidnapping and crimes against women. In the 2015 Assembly elections, 142 (58 per cent) MLAs had self-declared such cases against them in their affidavits. This time, the ADR had analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 241 of the 243 victorious candidates. The ADR did not say anything on such details of remaining winners. The results of the three-phase elections were declared on Wednesday early morning after counting that went on for over 20 hours. Out of the 123 winners, 19 have murder cases, 31 attempt to murder and eight crimes against women against their names. Among the major parties, 54 (73 per cent) of the 74 winners from Tejashwi Yadav-led <keyword id="123786" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rashtriya-Janata-Dal">Rashtriya Janata Dal</keyword> (RJD) have pending criminal cases, followed by 47 (64 per cent) out of 73 from BJP, 20 (47 per cent) out of 43 from Janata Dal-United, 16 (84 per cent) out of 19 from Congress, 10 (83 per cent) out of 12 from Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist Liberation, and five (100 per cent) out of 5 from Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen. Nearly 70% of Bihar election winners have declared criminal cases against them, mostly from RJD

In one of the most productive days in its history, <keyword id="48510" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword> on Tuesday in a matter of three and half hours passed seven <keyword id="1137044" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Key-bills">key bills</keyword> including one that removes cereals, pulses and onion from the essential commodities list and another that abolishes penalty for certain offences by companies. This after most of the opposition including the Congress, Left parties, the TMC, <keyword id="2463282" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Samajwadi-Party">the Samajwadi Party</keyword> and the NCP decided to boycott House proceedings in protest against the suspension of eight MPs for the remainder of the session for unruly behaviour. Only members from the ruling <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> and its ally JD-U and those of parties such as AIADMK, BJD, YSR-Congress and TDP, which have been extending support to the Modi government on various issues, participated in the debates on the bills. The Upper House took up government legislative business after nearly an hour of discussion over the conduct of opposition MPs during the passage of two agriculture reform bills on Sunday, with Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu saying the suspension could be revoked if the members expressed regret over their action. Rajya Sabha also passed amendments to the Bank Regulation Act to bring cooperative banks under the supervision of the RBI in a bid to protect the interest of depositors. Thereafter the Companies (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which removes the penalty for certain offences, was passed. The National Forensic Sciences University Bill, 2020 and the Rashtriya Rakash University Bill were passed in quick succession. Thereafter the Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill, 2020 to relax time limit on compliance with tax laws, GST payment and filing in view of the coronavirus pandemic. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 as well as the Taxation and Other Laws (Relaxation and Amendment of Certain Provisions) Bill, 2020 replace emergency ordinances. The sitting of the Rajya Sabha was extended by just over an hour beyond the scheduled time to allow the passage of the bills. The legislative business started at 10.29 hours and ended at 14.03 hrs - 214 minutes in all. All the seven bills have already been passed by <keyword id="6355187" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> and will now be sent to the President for assent. Rajya Sabha passes 7 key bills in three and half hours amidst Opposition boycott

Patna, Feb 2 () Tejashwi Yadav, the Leader of Opposition in Bihar, Thursday sought to dispel the perception among a section of the people that the state's budget size increased eight times only under the NDA government and claimed that it had increased as many times during the 15-year regime of RJD, his party. Participating in a debate in the assembly on the 2021-22 Bihar budget in the assembly, Yadav said its size was Rs 3000 crore in 1990 which increased to Rs 24,000 crore, a growth of eight times, in 2005 when RJD was in power. Similarly the budget size increased from Rs 24000 crore in 2005-06 to Rs 2.11 lakh crore in 2019-20, again a eight fold growth under NDA rule in the the state, he said. RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, Yadav's father, was the state chief minister in 1990. Rabri Devi, his mother later donned the mantle till Nitish Kumar assumed power in the state in November 2005. "Thus, it is established from the data that the state's budget size increased by eight fold during 15 year regimes of both RJD and NDA," he said. The growth was also the same for the union budget during the 2005-20 period, he said. It increased from Rs 4.53 lakh crore in 2005-06 to Rs 35 lakh crore in 2021-22. This fact nullifies the propaganda and perception that have been created that the RJD regime under Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi was 'Jungle Raj' and had nothing to do with development of the state, Yadav said. Claiming that the NDA government in thes state has been indulging in "jugglery of figures", the RJD leader said that Bihar had in fact witnessed decline of two per cent in revenue collection during 2005-06 to 2021-22. The state government could barely spend Rs 70,000 crore out of the Rs 2.11 lakh crore of the sanctioned budget expenditure for 2020-21, he said and wondered whether the Nitish Kumar government will be able to spend Rs 1.43 lakh crore in the remaining one month of the current fiscal. "This will lead to March loot," he alleged. Citing Transparency India International (TII) data, Yadav said Bihar ranks second in the list of most corrupt states of the country. As per the TII 75 per cent of work is done only after paying bribes to government departments. On the human development index front, the state ranked 32 during the Rabri Devi regime, but now is in the 36th position, Yadav, a former deputy chief minister said. <keyword id="6354721" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="parliament">Parliament</keyword> on Friday passed a bill to reduce for one year the salaries of MPs by 30 per cent "to meet the exigencies arising out of the COVID-19 pandemic". The bill was passed in <keyword id="48510" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword> with a voice vote. <keyword id="6355187" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="lok-sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> had passed the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (<keyword id="44495" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="amendment">Amendment</keyword>) Bill, 2020 bill earlier this week. It will replace the Salary, Allowances And Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020, that was cleared by the Cabinet on April 6 and promulgated the next day. The Upper House also passed the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, 2020, which proposes to reduce the salaries and allowances of ministers by 30 per cent for a year. Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy moved the Salaries and Allowances of Ministers (Amendment) Bill, 2020. Both bills were taken up simultaneously and passed by voice vote. While supporting the cuts in salaries, most Opposition members who participated in the discussion urged the government to review its decision to suspend the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (<keyword id="6420850" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="MPLAD">MPLAD</keyword>) scheme for two years saying it was necessary to carry out development works in their respective constituencies. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi said this was a temporary suspension. During the debate, Joshi said it did not matter how much money was being saved through salary cuts of members. "Charity should begin from home and that is the concept we have started. It is not Rs 4 crore saving as said by DMK member but Rs 53.9 crore per year from members' salary," he said. DMK member P Wilson had earlier during the discussion said the measure would entail savings of just Rs 4 crore. On several opposition members asking the government to stop various projects like Bullet train and construction of a new Parliament building to cut costs, Joshi said, "First you say public spending should be increased and now you are demanding that all these projects should be stopped". "At least we don't pay to some private trust from PM Relief fund. These people raised similar issues in 2019 election and people have answered," Joshi further said. Reddy said COVID-19 has impacted the incomes of people working in the private sector and so the Prime Minister initiated this bill which entails 30 per cent reduction in ministers' salaries. Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said around 70 per cent MPs depend on their salaries and have to take care of every expense through these emoluments alone. He said MPLAD funds are meant for taking care of needy people in their constituencies and are utilised for various things like purchasing ambulances, making small roads and community centres. "It (MPLAD) should not be suspended for two years. How did you presume that corona will go on for two years? Even if you had to do it you should have reduced it by half to Rs 2.5 crore. My suggestion to the government will be to reduce it to one year and in that one year Rs 2.5 crore fund be kept," he said. Similarly, Vishambhar Prasad Nishad (SP), V Vijaysai Reddy (YSRCP), K Somaprasad (CPI-M), Fauzia Khan (NCP), Veer Singh (BSP), Nazir Ahmed Laway (PDP) while supporting the reduction in salaries, sought restoration of the MPLAD scheme. Wilson said the Centre is suspending MPLAD scheme when various infrastructure projects like Central Vista project were still being taken up. Manoj Kumar Jha (RJD), while supporting the bill to cut salaries, asked the government to set it priorities properly. He asked if construction of a new Parliament building was necessary when the country was going through a tough phase. Ram Chandra Prasad Singh (JD-U) sought creation of a special corpus to deal with pandemics in the future. Earlier, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh allowed joint debate on both bills after members of the Upper House, cutting across party lines, suggested that as the contents and purpose of both bills were same, they should be discussed jointly. Initiating the debate, Rajiv Satav (Cong) welcomed the step towards MPs' salary cuts but questioned the government's move to suspend the MPLAD scheme. "You are talking about the common people and have suspended MPLAD scheme, which was meant for the welfare of people," he said. Satav said government effort's to tackle the pandemic are a "live example of mismanagement and failure" and no chief ministers were consulted before the lockdown. "In 2014, the GDP growth rate was 7.4 per cent and now it has come to a minus 23.9 per cent," he said, adding, "Instead of being corona free, the country has become employment free (Corona mukt ke jagah Rojgar Mukt ho gaya)". Pointing at the PM CARES fund, Satav said "no one knows to whom it is caring". He also pointed out expenses by the government during the pandemic on projects such as Central Vista, Bullet train and a special Rs 850 crore aircraft for the PM. Shwait Mallik (BJP) said previous governments had not worked on disaster management. He said all states were consulted by the Centre while imposing the lockdown and PM had considered their suggestions. Trinamool Congress member Dinesh Trivedi said the bill for reduction of members' salaries was decided only by some MPs on whatsapp. A Vijayakumar of AIDMK welcomed both the bills and said the government should clear the arrears of some ongoing projects under MPLAD. Prasanna Acharya (BJD) said MPLAD should not be suspended and all arrears of previous projects be cleared. Juveniles aged 16 years and above will now be tried under laws for adults for heinous crimes after <keyword id="48510" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha">Rajya Sabha</keyword> passed the <keyword id="2458616" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Juvenile-Justice-Bill">Juvenile Justice Bill</keyword> on Tuesday. The government sought support of all parties on the legislation to "deter many other boys" from doing such a crime. The bill which seeks to treat juveniles between 16 to 18 years as adults for committing heinous crimes such as rape will become a law after President <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pranab-Mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword> signs the amendments. 

	While the TMC had extended its full support to the bill during the debate, other parties like JD(U) remained divided over the issue and members of the CPI(M) party staged a walkout just before the bill was put to vote.

	Maneka Gandhi who had piloted the bill, had read out a list of gruesome crimes committed by juveniles in the House and asked the House how such cases can be handled.
 The parents of the December 2012 gangrape victim, known as <keyword id="6357643" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nirbhaya">Nirbhaya</keyword>, watched the proceedings from the visitor's gallery. 

	"Glad that juvenile justice bill has been passed, this will help our future generations and prevent crimes, but at the same time we are pained that our daughter could not get justice." said Asha Devi, Nirbhaya's mother, who was almost in tears when she spoke to the media after the bill's passage.

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance minister</keyword> <keyword id="43940" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="P-Chidambaram">P Chidambaram</keyword> has opted out of the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> contest, with <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> announcing his son Karthi as the candidate from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu. Kirit Patel will take on BJP patriarch LK Advani in <keyword id="6356847" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword> in Gujarat. 
 The passing of baton in Sivaganga caps the intense speculation on <keyword id="6362104" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chidambaram">Chidambaram</keyword>’s candidature in the wake of Congress’s bleak prospects in the state owing to its failure to find an ally. Congress fought the last two elections with DMK and reaped a rich tally, disproportionate to its weak organizational muscle in the state. 
 
The leg-up for the GenNext extends to another of the state’s political family. Mohan Kumaramangalam, son of former Union minister Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, is the rookie to contest from Salem. 
 In what may have the making of an interesting contest, Laxman Singh has been named from Vidisha to take on leader of opposition in Lok Sabha <keyword id="6355111" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sushma-Swaraj">Sushma Swaraj</keyword> in Madhya Pradesh. Singh is a former MP and the brother of AICC general secretary <keyword id="43786" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Digvijay-Singh">Digvijay Singh</keyword>. 
 
Congress announced sitting MPs Ramesh Kumar and Mahabal Mishra from South Delhi and West Delhi, a decision which means that all seven party MPs from the capital would be taking the field in the Lok Sabha polls. 
 
The names of Kumar and Mishra were held back in the earlier list which gave the go ahead to five other MPs, raising the possibility of their being replaced. However, the party leadership has settled for the status quo, finding that any attempt to change the candidate would skew the caste balance it wants in its representation in the apital. 
 The reprieve for the two comes after Congress mulled possible options to sitting MPs. The <keyword id="447980" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Central-Election-Committee">Central Election Committee</keyword> of the party had taken exception to the routine manner in which the MPs were recommended for renomination and had asked the Delhi managers to submit a panel of possible candidates. 
 
Union health minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad would contest from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. He replaces MP Lal Singh Chaudhary. 
 
Congress has also replaced Paranjayadityasinh Parmar from Panchmahals in Gujarat with Ramsingh Parmar. Paranjayaditya is the son-in-law of Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and his nomination in the previous list of candidates had sparked unrest, leading to clarification from the state leadership that it was an oversight. 
 <keyword id="6364961" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha-MP">Rajya Sabha MP</keyword> and former union minister Mani Shankar Aiyer will contest from Mayiladuthurai that he represented in Lok Sabha before losing in 2009. 
 
Expelled JD(U) MP Purnmasi Ram will be the Congress candidate from Gopalganj reserved seat in Bihar. Also, Congress’s Tsering Samphel will contest from Ladakh seat in J&amp;K.

Running Scared? Chidambaram Opts Out Of Lok Sabha Battle, Congress Fields His Son

Till two weeks ago, the name Hardik Patel hardly rang any bell. Post the Patidar convention in Gujarat, in just few days, he met political leaders, both from state and national parties. Hardik Patel had arrived on the national scene, big time. 
 The gun-toting 22-year-old youth from Patidar community is now the face of the unrest that has been brewing in Gujarat for quite a while now. The <keyword id="937702" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Patel-community">Patel community</keyword> wants reservation in Other Backward Caste (OBC) category, claiming that their caste has been deprived of the benefits of development in Modi’s Gujarat. 
 In other words, Patidars, who are considered affluent and hold on some major businesses and diamond trade, say they have not tasted the slice of ‘<keyword id="6406658" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vibrant-Gujarat">vibrant Gujarat</keyword>’. 
 
The huge convention, which took Gujarat by storm, has indicated the most significant tectonic shift in the national politics as well. Analysts and Modi’s detractors are in a hurry to call this a phase where fissures in Modi’s Gujarat have begun to show. 
 But, what most people have refused to see is the fact that this is a politically motivated congregation that has more to do with dissidence than a rightful demand of being included in <keyword id="149006" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="OBC-category">OBC category</keyword>. Because, as per the Constitution and the existing provisions, Patidars will never make it to the list. 
 
And this is not for the reason that Gujarat has exhausted its reservation quota allocated to the state, which should not cross 50%; but for the reason that it is a challenge to prove with facts and figures that Patidars are indeed a deprived community. 
 
 Patidars are politically strong, well-connected and are highly influential in Gujarat’s businesses. Till the late 1970s, they supported the Congress party. And during 80s-90s, they shifted their loyalties to the Bharatiya Janata Party and decided to bring about a change. They formed a strong support base for the lotus party and transformed the anger against Congress into strength of the BJP. The success saga then rolled out, and there was no stopping it. At least, not until recently. 
 
The huge popularity of Modi sent the political charts soaring. Gujarat, which has always had a huge influence on Indian politics right from the freedom struggle, created a PM out of Modi and sent him to Delhi projecting Gujarat as the best model that the rest of the country needs to follow. 
 
Now with Maha Kranti Rally, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Gujarat+">Gujarat</a> seems to have stood at cross-roads again. Were those tall claims of development not true? What is the matter with Patidars who are now demanding their ‘slice’ of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=development">development</a> cake, when they stood mum while the world watched Gujarat turn into a fine example? 
 
Clearly, Hardik is a part of bigger political vendetta against Modi. This is much like a sibling rivalry with one child crying for attention, no sooner does the parent shifts the attention to another baby. It’s a normal phenomenon, and there isn’t anything unnatural about it. 
 
But, understanding the issue in such a simple manner won’t help the situation. Because the Maha Kranti Rally wasn’t anything like that. More than five lakh people came together to demand their OBC status through the rally. Does it mean anything to the state or the Centre? 
 
Yes, it does. Firstly, the claims of depravation undo Modi’s projection of Gujarat. They show him in such poor light that the rest of India will soon begin to get restless and start similar agitations too. How and who funded the rally of five lakh people? It, surely, wasn’t a voluntary act. Hardik, a commerce graduate, who cannot manage much of national branding for himself, extensively travelled the state in the last few years to consolidate people. 
 
JD(U) and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=AAP">AAP</a> have already supported Hardik unconditionally. This wasn’t tip-toeing into a space of dissidence. This gesture was a clear indication to PM Modi that if he did not pay heed to their demands and take them into confidence, such Hardiks can breed all over the country much to his disdain. 
 
India has managed an electoral feat with single party getting the largest majority only last year. Till then, the country was torn in different directions owing to coalition governments and scams. Time was ripe for the gold to be sown and reaped. Just when this was about to happen, Hardik happened and the road ahead looks a bit too hazy to be clear.
