The Delhi <keyword id="19900812" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="high-court" source="keywords">High Court</keyword> has refused to set aside the Central government's order blocking open-source messaging application '<keyword id="22332861" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Briar" source="keywords">Briar</keyword>' in <keyword id="19900657" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jammu-and-Kashmir" source="keywords">Jammu and Kashmir</keyword> as it is suspected to be used by <keyword id="19900658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="terrorists" source="keywords">terrorists</keyword> and could be a potential <keyword id="19968363" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="threat" source="keywords">threat</keyword> to <keyword id="19896999" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="national-security" source="keywords">national security</keyword>. The high court observed that in the matters of national security, principles of natural justice can be given a go-by. "The interim order has been reviewed by the committee constituted under Section 7 of the Blocking Rules and as stated earlier, the committee consists of top officials of the Government of India. The blocking orders have been passed for 14 applications/ softwares, including the software/ application of the petitioner herein as it was being used by the terrorists and their supporters to disturb the security and sovereignty of the country. "The application of the petitioner has been blocked only in Jammu and <keyword id="19896255" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="kashmir" source="keywords">Kashmir</keyword> and the same can be used in all other parts of the country. In view of the above, this court is not inclined to entertain the present writ petition. Accordingly, the writ petition is dismissed," Justice Subramonium Prasad said. Sublime Software Ltd, the petitioner, sought direction to the Centre to produce and publish the order passed by it under Section 69A of the Information <keyword id="19901571" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="technology" source="keywords">Technology</keyword> Act, blocking its open-source messaging application 'Briar' and also prayed for setting aside that order. It was stated that Briar operates on a technology in which a person can directly send a message to another person even when there is no internet connectivity. It added that the technology is crucial in times of emergency, natural calamities and catastrophic disasters in providing emergency healthcare and disaster management as it enables smooth communication between persons and authorities during times of distress. On the other hand, the Centre's counsel submitted that the software, which can work even when there is no internet connection, is suspected to be used by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. The application can be misused and can definitely be a potential threat to the national security, sovereignty and integrity of India, the Centre's counsel said. The high court in its order noted that rule 16 of the Blocking Rules provides that strict confidentiality shall be maintained regarding all the requests and complaints received and actions taken thereof. "This court can take judicial notice of the fact that decisions taken at the highest level and for the benefit of the security and sovereignty of the country can be kept confidential," it said.

expectations, say brokerages The IT sector had been under immense pressure in FY24, as the US and other global clients cut down on discretionary spending. Moreover, delays and furloughs in the system have been leading to revenue leakage — leading to marginal growth in revenue vs slight falls seen over the last three quarters. The street, however, was expecting a better show in FY25 as compared to FY24 which is expected to be weaker than the year before. The confidence came from early this year even since the stocks have been pricing in a possible interest rate cut by the <keyword id="19951097" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="us-fed" source="keywords">US Fed</keyword>. While the latter indicated a soft monetary policy outlook recently, Accenture earnings point to extended trouble in the sector. “A likely weak FY24 exit, as suggested by our recent checks, will further pull down FY25 estimates, in our view. We, therefore, see further calibration in the Street’s (and to an extent ours) growth expectations now. That should result in valuation contraction as well. We continue to remain cautious on the sector,” says J M Financial. Nuvama however believes that the expectations have already been low, and sees a medium-term potential of the sector. “We believe FY25 Street estimates, for Indian IT companies, have been adequately rationalised, and have little downgrade risk, from current levels. We maintain our positive stance on the sector and expect a sustainable strong demand environment to drive strong earnings growth over the next three years,” says Nuvama. The Nifty IT index was trading 1.87% per cent lower on Friday morning at 35,361.3. Over the last three months, the index has witnessed a drop of 0.89% given the continued pressure on most Indian IT stocks.

"An Indian Air Force vehicle convoy was attacked by militants in the Poonch district of J&amp;K, near Shahsitar. Cordon and search operations are underway presently in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is under progress," tweeted the <keyword id="19900590" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="iaf" source="keywords">IAF</keyword> Media Co-ordination Centre on X. The injured personnel were evacuated to Udhampur for treatment on IAF choppers, where one of them succumbed. Another soldier is reported to be in critical condition, as confirmed by security force officials. "In the ensuing gunfight with terrorists, the Air Warriors fought back by returning fire. In the process, five IAF personnel received bullet injuries, and were evacuated to the nearest military hospital for immediate medical attention. One Air Warrior succumbed to his injuries later. Further operations are on by the local security forces," said the IAF. The soldier who succumbed was undergoing treatment at the command hospital at Udhampur. The remaining three are stable as per the Security Force officials, reported ANI. Following the attack that occurred in the evening around Shah Sitar and Shashidhar areas in the Poonch sector. Security forces initiated a search and cordon operation, as stated by security forces' officials. In response to the attack, forces have increased patrolling and vehicle checks in the area. The convoy was en route to the Sanai Top in the Surankote area of the district. The terrorists are suspected to be belonging to the same group that ambushed Indian troops in the Bufliaz area nearby on December 21, as per the Times of India report. The December attack last year had killed four soldiers and injured three. Earlier, in November 2023, a prolonged gunfight between Indian Army and the terrorists responsible for frequent attack on civilians in the region has resulted in deaths of five army personnel, including two captains. The Poonch sector belongs to the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency which will vote for the Lok Sabha elections on May 25. Congress leaders Malikarjun Kharge and <keyword id="19895780" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rahul-gandhi" source="keywords">Rahul Gandhi</keyword> extended condolences over the death of IAF personnel. The issue is a combination of a fresh issue and an offer for sale. The company intends to use proceeds from the fresh issue to invest in its subsidiary BDJ Oxides, loan payments and to set up an R&amp;D centre. It also intends to use the proceeds to fund long-term working capital requirements of the parent company as well as the subsidiary; in addition to general corporate purposes. Apart from a large domestic market, J G Chemicals serves 50 global customers across 10 countries. It offers 80 grades of products and can serve a diverse set of industries like rubber, ceramics, paints, pharmaceuticals, animal feed and more. The company currently operates on a total capacity of 77,040 million tonnes per annum including recent capacity expansions at the Naidupeta facility of 36,960 MTPA. The facilities have an average utilisation of 65%. It also intends to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility in Gujarat to cater to the ceramics industry. “Currently, 90.5% of revenue comes from the tyre and rubber industry with 76% of total revenue coming from top 10 customers. The company’s sales have grown at 13.32% compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) in the last 5 years,” says an IPO note by <keyword id="20596965" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="arihant-capital" source="keywords">Arihant Capital</keyword>.
