 The crisis-ridden bank's annual report for 2018-19 nowhere mentions exposure to any real estate firm and it only talks of MSME lending and NPAs at 3.76%. Two directors — Rakesh and Sarang Wadhawan — of HDIL that set off the massive crisis at the PMC Bank by defaulting on loans worth nearly ₹6,500 crore have been arrested. They were arrested by the Economic Offences Wing of the Mumbai Police. According to the complaint, HDIL and its group companies were the beneficiaries of 44 loans or 73% of PMC's total loan book size of ₹8,880 crore - a mammoth violation of regulations which forbid banks from handing out such a large proportion of cash to one sector, let alone a single firm. "Kapil Wadhawan, being chairman and managing director of Dewan Housing Finance Ltd (DHFL), had visited London along with a city-based real estate broker to meet Iqbal Mirchi in 2010. With Kapil Wadhawan’s arrest, the family is now accused of scams worth over a billion dollars

An eight-month investigation of over 36,000 files has revealed some shocking details. 
 
One of the largest data leaks in the history revealed how the world leaders hide their cash and the names of more than 500 Indians, who are linked to off-shore companies, also surfaced. 
 
The investigation by <a href="http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-news-india/panama-papers-list-amitabh-bachchan-kp-singh-aishwarya-rai-iqbal-mirchi-adani-brother/">The Indian Express</a> revealed that there were 234 Indian passports (handed over by clients as part of the incorporation process). 
 These records reveal a list of individuals who have paid the firm — and bought the benefits of the secretive, lax regulatory system in which it operates — to set up offshore entities in <keyword id="112952" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tax-havens">tax havens</keyword> around the world. 
 
The documents were leaked from the law firm Mossack Fonseca and connect to 140 politicians in more than 50 countries.

This claim has been made by the NIA in its charge sheet filed in connection with a terror case lodged against Dawood, NCP leader <keyword id="6605138" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nawab" source="Orion">Nawab</keyword> Malik and others, including Parker. Earlier, Parkar had claimed that he wasn't in touch with the don. The charge sheet reads that Dawood, after leaving India, had been operating his gang through Chotta Shakeel, Anees Ibrahim Sheikh, Javed Chikna, Tiger Memon, Iqbal Mirchi and Haseena Parkar. NIA has alleged in the case that the accused usurped a property (Goawalla compound) worth Rs 11.28 crore along with Nawab Malik in connivance with D-Gang. "<keyword id="17811" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="mallik" source="Orion">Mallik</keyword> and Haseena Parkar eyed the Goawalla compound, and Mallik made inroads into the property by illegally occupying Kurla General stores, which was later regularised in the name of his brother Aslam Mallik. He, later on, took over Solidus investment, which had a shed in that property. Salim Patel worked at the behest of Haseena Parkar and acquired power of attorney from Munira Plumber, the actual owner of the land, to clear encroachments. "Eventually, Haseena Parkar was controlling half the property and <keyword id="1612673" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nawab-mallik" source="Orion">Nawab Mallik</keyword> the other half. Later Nawab Mallik took over the remaining property from Haseena Parkar, which is proceeds of crime," read the charge sheet. It has been alleged that the proceeds of crime are controlled through two companies Solidus and Mallik infrastructure, the directors of which are Nawab Mallik, Mallik's wife Mehjabeen and sons Faraz and Aamir. Commercial, agricultural and residential properties related to Nawab Mallik had been provisionally attached by the ED. Haseena Parkar also transferred her interest in the property held through Salim Patel for the beneficial interests of Nawab Malik and Nawab Malik paid a substantial amount (Rs 55 lakh) to Haseena Parker, in cash. In 2005-06, Aslam Malik, along with Faraz Malik, met Salim Patel and Haseena Parkar for dealings of the Goawalla compound. Aslam had mentioned to Parkar that he was handing over Rs 55 lakh (in cheque) and Rs 5 lakh (in cash) to Parkar. Haseena Parkar's son Alishah Parkar confirmed that Salim Patel, who used to work for Haseena, used to handle the Goawala compound dispute and that Mallik took over the property from them. Sardar Khan, an accused in the 1993 blast case, would stay at the Goawala compound and Mallik knew about him. Salim Patel was a member of NCP and would work for Haseena Parkar, he was also associated with Nawab Mallik. Haseena Parkar, Salim Patel and Nawab Mallik indulged in a criminal conspiracy to grab 3-acre land of the Goawala compound. Sardar Khan was involved in property and used to work for Nawab Mallik after the property was usurped. Nawab Mallik and Haseena Parkar got into a criminal conspiracy and Nawab paid Rs 55 lakh to Parkar, of which Rs 5 lakh in cash and cheque were paid respectively by Faraz and Aslam Mallik to Parkar and Rs 15 lakh to Salim Patel and Rs 5 lakh to Sardar Khan. Solidus paid Rs 20 lakh as the registry rate when the actual rate was Rs 3.54 crore. Nawab Mallik introduced fake tenants to lower registry value. Faraz was summoned five times, Mehjabeen twice, and Aamir thrice, by the investigating agencies but none of them appeared. Mumbai, Apr 22 () DHFL promoters Kapil Wadhawan andhis brother Dheeraj on Wednesday filed an anticipatory bailapplication in a special court here in connection with thecase registered against them for their alleged role in the YESbank scam.In their plea, the Wadhawan brothers said that theyshould be granted protection from arrest at least during thelockdown period considering the coronavirus outbreak."Our primary plea is that there is no need for arrestduring this period of lockdown. Give us interim protectionuntil then and all the merits can be discussed once thelockdown is lifted," their lawyer said.The court has asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED)to file its reply on Thursday and directed the agency not totake any coercive action until then, the lawyer added. The Wadhawan brothers are accused in the YES Bank-DHFLfraud cases.The DHFL (Dewan Housing Finance Limited) group has aloan amount of about Rs 3,700 crore taken from Yes Bank thatis under "stress". New Delhi, May 14 () The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday arrested DHFL promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan in connection with its money laundering probe against Yes Bank co-founder Rana Kapoor and others, officials said.The brothers were remanded to 10-day ED custody by a special court in Mumbai, they said.The Wadhawans are presently in jail after being arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is also probing the same case.They were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the officials said.The Wadhawan brothers, also being probed by the ED in another money laundering probe linked to late gangster Iqbal Mirchi, were summoned by the agency multiple times in the Yes Bank case but they had cited the ongoing COVID-19 travel restrictions to skip the summons.Five vehicles of the Wadhawan brothers were seized by the ED in April after they and their family members were reported to have unauthorisedly travelled to Mahabaleshwar from Lonavala in Maharashtra during the nationwide coronavirus-induced lockdown.As many as 44 companies belonging to 10 large business groups, including Anil Ambani Group, Essel Group, ILFS, Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd, Cox &amp; Kings, and Bharat Infra, reportedly accounted for bad loans of Rs 34,000 crore of Yes Bank.The ED has accused Kapoor, his family members and others of laundering "proceeds of crime" worth Rs 4,300 crore by receiving alleged kickbacks in lieu of extending big loans through their bank that later allegedly turned non-performing assets (NPA).Kapoor is also in ED custody. <ul><li>India’s nodal investigation agency, the <keyword id="6354889" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="central-bureau-of-investigation">Central Bureau of Investigation</keyword> (CBI), has filed a charge sheet against Yes Bank founder <keyword id="128581" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rana-Kapoor">Rana Kapoor</keyword> and his family members.</li><li>Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) brothers, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan have also been named. </li><li>There's already an ongoing investigation against the Kapoor's for money laundering filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).</li></ul>The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet for cheating and corruption against Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor, his family members, Dewan Housing Finance Limited (DHFL) promoters Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan. The document was submitted before a special CBI court. DHFL, in turn, granted a loan of ₹600 crore to DUVPL. This loan is suspected to be a kickback in serving Kapoor’s interests since the company is within the family. Making the transaction even shadier, the CBI alleges that the loan given to DUVPL was based on a mortgage of properties that only had a market value of ₹40 crore. But when taking out the loan, the value was inflacted to reflect as ₹750 crore. Another loan of ₹750 crore was doled out by Yes Bank to a company which was owned by Wadhawans. It was in considering of this case that Kapoor was first arrested and put in jail — where has he stayed since. The Wadhawan brothers were out on bail in connection to another money laundering case connected to the late drug smuggler Iqbal Mirchi. However, the brothers and twenty-one others were booked by the Satara police on April 8 for violating lockdown rules and were placed under institutional quarantine for 14 days. Once their quarantine ended on April 23, CBI officials took the brothers them custody from their family home in Mahabaleshwar April 26. On May 6, the ED submitted its own charge sheet against Kapoor, his wife Bindu, and their three daughters under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Yes Bank scam — Rana Kapoor and family named in CBI charge sheet alongside DHFL’s Wadhwan brothers

<keyword id="10168582" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-dhfl-committee-of-creditors">The DHFL Committee of Creditors</keyword> (COC) stares at a 70 per cent haircut in the meeting on Monday as lenders to lose a whopping Rs 68,000 crore against the total admitted liabilities of Rs 95,000 crore. Four bidders, Adani Group, Piramal Groip, US based Oaktree, and Hongkong based SC Lowy have submitted shockingly poor bids, as per banking sources. It is learnt that the regulator is mulling scrapping of bidding process to let DHFL continue to operate under the RBI appointed administrator. The bids received are far lower than the Fair Value (FV) and <keyword id="6887791" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Liquidation-Value">Liquidation Value</keyword> (LV) arrived at by the independent valuers on behalf of the lenders. Thee bids offer a very low recovery value - ranging between as low as Rs 75 crore to highest of only Rs 15,800 crore, banking sources said. The recovery rate from these bids for the lenders will be in the range of from less than 3 per cent to upto 16 per cent. The Resolution Plan for DHFL provided for 3 options: Option 1: To acquire DHFL on as-is-where-is basis, Option 2: To acquire the Wholesale and SRA asset portfolio of the company and Option 3: To acquire <keyword id="10168580" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-asset-portfolio">Retail asset portfolio</keyword> of the company. DHFL had total assets of Rs 93,000 crore, which comprise: (A) Retail asset portfolio of Rs. 33,000 crore; (B) Wholesale asset portfolio of Rs 48,000 crore; (C) Cash and cash equivalent of Rs. 12,000 crore. The details of the bids received include a bid by Oaktree which has bid for the entire company, as is where is basis, for only Rs 15,800 crore. Oaktree has offered to pay only Rs 15,800 crore for the entire company, that too is payable after 7 years. Oaktree has also offered Rs 12,000 crore available with Company to the lenders. The Oaktree bid will result in around 16% recovery for the lenders. Adani Group has bid for DHFL's Rs 48,000 crore wholesale and Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) asset portfolio for only Rs 2,250 crore, i.e. less than 5% of the total portfolio value, and a meagre 2.3% of the total admitted liabilities of Rs 95,000 crore. Adanis have offered to acquire DHFL's wholesale and SRA portfolio for only Rs. 2,250 crore - of which Rs. 750 crore will be paid within 1 year and the balance Rs. 1500 crore will be payable after 8 years. <keyword id="6397591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="piramal-enterprises">Piramal Enterprises</keyword> has bid for DHFL's Rs 33,000 crore retail portfolio for only Rs 6,000 crore. PiramalEnterprises has also offered Rs 9,000 crore out of Rs. 12,000 crore available with company to the lenders. The Piramal bid would result in recovery of only around 6% for the lenders. SC Lowy has submitted the bid that comes with so many conditions that it is unlikely to be considered. Some lenders are of opinion that DHFL has an attractive zero risk retail portfolio and it should be acquired by the banks themselves, instead of offering that to any bidder at such a low value. The lenders and bidders are also jittery due to the ongoing CBI and ED investigation against the alleged fraud and siphoning off of huge value by DHFL promoters Wadhawan Brothers by fudging of accounts and creating 2.6 lakh fake accounts, which have been termed as "<keyword id="6355597" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bandra">Bandra</keyword> Book Entities" in the forensic audit conducted by Grant Thornton. ED had arrested the DHFL promoters, Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan in May 2020, in the Yes Bank fraud case, and both the brothers are in jail since then. Investigating agencies are also probing DHFL and its promoters for their business dealings with companies linked to gangster Iqbal Mirchi and Dawood Ibrahim. State Bank of India, the lead bank, has an exposure of over Rs 10,000 crore.
