In the 2023 calendar year, the equity investments in real estate stood at $7.4 billion. Industry body CII and real estate consultant CBRE on Wednesday released a joint report titled 'Leading the Charge: Crafting the Skylines of Tomorrow' at the annual CII Realty 2024 conclave. Equity capital inflows touched $8.9 billion between January and September, registering a 46% year-on-year growth. "Overall equity investments in 2024 in the real estate sector are set to hit a new record surpassing $10 billion for the first time," the report said. With a resurgence in investment inflows in built-up office assets and a strong acquisition pipeline for land in the residential sector, the overall equity investments in 2024 would be in the $10-11 billion range. During January-September, institutional and collective vehicle investors accounted for nearly 40% of the overall investments. Developer companies led the total capital inflows with more than 41% share in this period. Domestic investors (predominantly developers) invested nearly USD 6 billion during the first nine months of the calendar year, dominating the overall capital inflows with an almost 65% share. In comparison, foreign investors contributed about $3.1 billion during the same timeframe. Notably, North American and Singaporean investors were the significant contributors, representing about 85% of all foreign capital inflows. Anshuman Magazine, Chairman &amp; CEO, India, South-East Asia, Middle East &amp; Africa, CBRE, said, "Projection for 2024 equity investments between $10-11 billion, highest-ever, underscores continued investor interest in the growing <keyword id="23870227" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="real-estate-market-in-India" source="keywords">real estate market in India</keyword>." With SEBI's SM-REIT framework, he said, smaller but high-quality assets in Tier-II markets would also present new avenues for strategic capital deployment. "We believe this regulatory support will add much-needed transparency, enabling a more diversified investment base and encouraging institutional participation across these markets," Magazine said. Going ahead, he said this growing diversification will not only solidify India's real estate sector but also pave the way for future growth across emerging asset classes.

Mumbai: The rupee fell sharply by 15 paise against the US dollar to 83.44 in early trade on Wednesday amid muted trends in the domestic equity markets. However, a decline in the dollar index and a marginal fall in the Brent crude index prevented further losses in the domestic unit, according to experts. At the interbank foreign exchange, the local unit opened at 84.38 -- down 9 paise from its previous close -- and then slid further to 84.44, registering a decline of 15 paise from its previous close. On Tuesday, the rupee pared its intra-day losses to settle flat at 84.29 against the US dollar. "The <keyword id="24182640" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-banking-liquidity" source="keywords">Indian banking liquidity</keyword> fell into deficit as industry players paid Rs 1.6-1.8 lakh crore as GST payment. This was after two months that liquidity has fallen into a deficit as the RBI also intervened into forex markets to defend the rupee weighing on liquidity conditions," Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said. "The rupee may be in the broad range of 84.00 to 84.50 in the near term as markets await a slew of data from the US this evening," Bhansali added. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.15 per cent to 106.84. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was marginally down 0.10 per cent to USD 72.74 per barrel in futures trade. Moreover, the win by the incumbent government in Maharashtra, further fueled investor confidence in economic stability, sparking a rally in equity markets. At the interbank foreign exchange, the rupee opened at 84.27 and moved in a tight range and touched an early high of 84.22 against the greenback, registering a gain of 7 paise over its previous close. On Monday, the rupee appreciated 12 paise to close at 84.29 against US dollar. "While Donald Trump's aggressive trade policies loom large, the rupee's outlook remains cautiously optimistic. Pabari further said that the RBI's vigilant stance will be critical in managing volatility, with interventions likely at key levels to maintain stability. "Given the factors, the USDINR pair appears to face resistance around the 84.50 level, with expectations of trading within a range of 83.80 to 84.50, leaning toward a downside bias," he said. On the global front, US Treasury Secretary nominee Scott Bessent's fiscal deficit reduction agenda capped US Treasury yields, Pabari said. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading higher by 0.28 per cent at 107.11. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose by 0.33 per cent to USD 73.25 per barrel in futures trade. Rupee rises 7 paise to 84.22 against US dollar in early trade

Ever since Donald Trump won the 2024 US presidential elections, bitcoin has been surging, going up over 40% in the last two weeks. Recently, the cryptocurrency soared past $97,000, having risen 8.32% in just the last 7 days, and is currently trading at $96,906.09. The overall crypto market is also buoyant, with the crypto volume jumping 10.06% over the past 24 hours to touch $198.83 billion. The markets are enthused about Bitcoin's prospects going ahead, given that Trump has hinted towards establishing a dedicated role in the White House for deliberating crypto policies. Trump has been vocally pro-crypto and had promised, during his presidential campaign, to scale back <keyword id="24085738" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crypto-regulations" source="keywords">crypto regulations</keyword> and fire SEC chair Gary Gensler, who had initiated a crackdown on digital assets in the US. DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have been trying to keep the market afloat in both October and November, pumping in Rs 31,636.77 crore in Indian markets in November so far. Last month, DIIs infused Rs 1,07,254.68 crore in the Indian markets. According to an NSE report, by the end of the previous quarter, FPIs holding in NSE-listed companies stood at 36.3%, despite the seventh consecutive quarterly decline. Previously, FIIs holding in listed companies had hit a record high of 39.9% in December 2021. In contrast, DIIs are increasingly making headway into the Indian markets. Active Domestic Mutual Funds (DMFs) have been increasing their investments in the NSE-listed companies. Their ownership in these companies has risen from 12.4% in December 2021 to 15.7% as of September 30, 2024. Banks and insurance companies have also expanded their market share. Their ownership in NSE-listed companies has grown from 8.8% three years ago to 11% as of pr quarter.

While Nifty ended the day at 24,472.10 points, down by 1.25%, Sensex tumbled a massive 930 points to close the day at 80,220.72 points. "The weak link of the markets, i.e., mid- and small-caps, tumbled by 2.61% and 3.92% and underperformed the frontline index. Considering the oversold conditions in the mid- and small-cap segments, a short-term bounce can be expected in the markets, which may push the index higher, but the upside seems to be capped at 24,670". Rajesh Bhosale, equity technical analyst at Angel One, cautions traders against taking long positions until there are clear signs of a bullish reversal. "The midcap space, in particular, saw a sharp decline, breaking below key support levels, signaling more pain ahead—bottom-fishing in this sector should be avoided for now," he added. Investor wealth worth Rs 8.98 lakh crore was wiped off the markets today, with the BSE m-cap dipping from Rs 453.65 lakh crore yesterday to Rs 444.66 crore today. Broader mid- and small-cap indices saw their worst losses since August, riding on the back of disappointing earnings and cautious management guidance for the upcoming quarters. As such, hefty profit-booking ensued to make the most of still elevated valuations. <h2>FIIs on a heavy selling spree</h2> The massacre in the markets comes amidst heavy offloading of stakes by FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>). Data suggests so far this month, FIIs have offloaded a staggering Rs 82,479.73 crore in Indian markets. DIIs (<keyword id="20234284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="domestic-institutional-investors" source="keywords">domestic institutional investors</keyword>) have been trying to maintain some semblance and balance in the markets, having bought 77,402.11 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. However, that has proved insufficient for maintaining the positive momentum of the markets. The last time Indian markets had witnessed such intense selling was in 2021–22, i.e., during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Data from NSDL suggests that during this period, FPIs had sold Rs 1,22,242 crore worth of assets in the Indian markets. Gaurav Garg, Research Analyst at Lemonn Markets Desk, highlights that mid- and small-caps bore the brunt of earnings disappointments, as these are also the segments most stretched on many valuation metrics. "Growth slowdown concerns, along with uncertainty on rate cut timing, act as a double whammy for equity markets, especially after recent inflation data surprised sharply to the upside," he added. Looking ahead, the markets will continue to focus on the earnings announcements. Investors will look to the RBI's monetary policy meeting minutes tomorrow and the HSBC Manufacturing, Services, and Composite PMI data on Thursday for further signals to act upon.

Carnage on D-Street as Sensex and Nifty tumble by over 1%, investors lose Rs 13 lakh crore in 2 days

However, given how both the exchanges largely operate in sync, BSE is likely to declare a holiday as well. Next month, the bourses will remain closed for regular trade on Christmas, i.e., December 25. Earlier this week, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) mandated that all businesses and workplaces in Mumbai should grant paid leave on November 20, 2024, to all its employees so that they can participate in state elections. Failure to do so could mean penalties for employers. All the 288 states in the Maharashtra state assembly are set to go to polls in a single phase on November 20. <h2>Markets close the week on muted note </h2>Both Nifty and Sensex closed the week on a damp note, with Nifty dipping 0.21% to close at 24,148.20 points. On the other hand, Sensex also slipped below the 80,000 mark to close the week at 79,486.32 points. Of the 50 stocks that constitute Nifty, 23 stocks advanced during the day, while 27 saw declines. However, this week has not been all that bad for the markets, with Nifty rising 0.31% and Sensex inching up 0.65% during the last 5 days. All broad market indices fell during today's trade, with smallcaps falling by over 1.5%, while midcaps also closed the day over 1% down. As for sectoral indices, most of them ended the week in reds, with realty and media losing over 2% during trading today. Pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and consumer durables recorded marginal upticks during the day, inching up by 0.07%, 0.22%, and 0.41%, respectively. FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>) continued their selling spree today as well. In this month so far, FIIs have been net cash sellers, offloading around Rs 16,445.49 crore. DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have stepped in to maintain some balance by becoming net buyers worth Rs 12,265.74 crore in November till date. Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities, explains that global market sentiment saw sharp volatility in the aftermath of Republicans winning all three branches of the US government, resulting in rising US bond yields and the dollar, as well as the US equity markets beating most EMs. Meanwhile, the Q2 FY25 earnings season continued to remain weak, with more misses than hits observed. <keyword id="20993056" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FPI-flows" source="keywords">FPI flows</keyword> are expected to remain volatile for some time to come. Amidst emerging markets, only Brazil saw inflows worth $115 million between November 1 and 7, 2024.

Markets to remain shut on November 20 due to Maharashtra elections

Food delivery and quick-commerce behemoth Swiggy's initial public offering (IPO) closes for subscription today. The issue has already been subscribed about 213% as of 1:35 pm today. The offer garnered massive interest from QIB (qualified institutional buyers), who subscribed 3.46x to it, bidding for 30,09,09,954 shares as against 8,69,23,475 shares allotted for them. The company will tentatively list on both BSE and NSE on November 13, 2024. Swiggy's employees also gave the IPO a thumbs-up, subscribing 1.42x to the offer. Around 7,50,000 shares were reserved for employees in the IPO, at a discount of Rs 25 to the issue price. On the other hand, retail investors subscribed to 99% of their potion. At the same time, the NII (non-institutional category) fetched a muted response, with investors subscribing to only 25% of shares in their category. <h2>Dull GMP</h2> Pre-IPO, Swiggy had also lapped up Rs 5,085 crore from anchor investors. With a price band of Rs 371-390, the company is looking to raise Rs 11,327 crore from the IPO. Out of this, the fresh issue component is worth Rs 4,499 crore, and the offer for sale (OFS) is Rs 6,828 crore. Investors can expect dampened listing day gains, going by the trends in the GMP (grey market premium) market. The company's last-traded GMP was at a mere Rs 1, taking the estimated listing price to Rs 391 (upper end of the price band at Rs 390 + GMP), which means that the potential gain per share would be a minuscule 0.26%. Per InCred Equities, the IPO can be subscribed to since the company has favorable scale and potential to tap in long-term opportunities. Quick commerce provides growth runaway, while the food delivery vertical has the potential to improve the margin and cash flow going ahead. Per the company's Q1FY25 earnings report, it generates 47% of revenue from the food delivery business and 39% from its supply chain and distribution business (operated via Scootsy Logistics Private Limited). About 12% of the company's revenue comes from its quick commerce wing i.e. Instamart, while Dineout (eating out) and platform innovations make up about 1% each of the revenue. "Swiggy’s IPO price band implies 1) EV/revenue multiple of ~6.5x, 2) EV/GOV of ~2.1x, and 3) a P/S of ~6.7x based on annualized FY25F financials. The valuation is at a discount to Zomato, which trades at an EV/revenue multiple of ~11.3x, an EV/GOV of ~3.2x (annualized), and a P/S of ~11.4x based on FY25F consensus estimates. Internal controls, as reflected in the auditor’s qualified opinion, and increased competitive intensity are the key downside risks, in our view," InCred further adds. Notably, in FY23 and FY24, auditors raised concerns over loans given to subsidiaries, namely Supr Infotech and Scootsy which may impact Swiggy's overall financial stability. Some of the qualifications highlighted by the auditors include potential impairment, interest payment delay, and using new loans to cover interest costs.

Experts noted that global markets supported Trump's victory on Wednesday, and his success in the elections is expected to be more potentially transformative than initially thought. However, his decisions could have both positive and negative impacts on different sectors. "The Trump victory is turning out to be more potentially transformative than thought earlier. With the Congress and the Senate coming under Republican control and President Trump exercising power without bothering about another term in office, hugely transformational decisions are possible in the months following Trump's assumption of office. These decisions may turn out to be both good and bad" said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. "His pro-business initiative of 'America First' can strengthen the American economy. But if he walks his talk and imposes a 60% tariff on Chinese imports and a 10 to 20% tariff on imports from other countries, that would trigger inflation and jeopardise the Fed's policy of containing inflation, necessitating a rethink of the Fed's present policy of rate cut. This has the potential to negatively impact global stock markets,” Vijayakumar added. In the sectoral indices, a mixed performance was seen on the National Stock Exchange, with Nifty Auto, Nifty Pharma, Nifty IT, and Nifty FMCG gaining, while Nifty Bank, Nifty Metal, and Nifty Private Bank declined. In the quarterly announcements today, Mahindra &amp; Mahindra, Trent, Rail Vikas Nigam, Linde India, Lupin, NHPC, and Aditya Birla Fashion &amp; Retail are some of the major companies set to announce their second-quarter financial performance. In other Asian markets on Thursday, Japan's Nikkei index was down marginally by 0.4%, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng gained 0.68%. Taiwan's weighted index also rose by 1.07%, and South Korea's KOSPI index was up by 0.41%. In China, the Shanghai Composite also gained 0.75% after Trump's return. Nifty and Sensex continue downward trend, selling continues despite Trump's victory

The benchmark hit an intra-day high of 25,143 in the early trade and a low of 24,798.65. Sensex, Nifty pare early gains, trade lower in the afternoon trade

The share allotment for <keyword id="23625124" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Waaree-Energies-IPO" source="keywords">Waaree Energies IPO</keyword>, which opened for subscription between October 21 and 23, is set to be finalized today. By tomorrow, i.e., October 25th, all bidders will receive information on whether or not they have been allotted shares. If you have applied, and in case your allotment is successful, funds will be debited from your accounts. On the other hand, if the allocation remains unsuccessful, your IPO mandates and blocked funds will be revoked. Waaree is set to list on both NSE and BSE on Monday, October 28th, 2024. Waaree's IPO worth Rs 4,321.44 crore received a thumping response from investors. Overall, the IPO was subscribed to around 79.44 times, with bids worth Rs 2,41,857.01 crore received against the issue size of Rs 4,321.44 crore. Not just in the retail category, which oversubscribed to the issue by 11.27x, Waaree also attracted massive interest from QIBs (<keyword id="20240741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qualified-institutional-buyers" source="keywords">qualified institutional buyers</keyword>), who subscribed a massive 215.03x to the offer, and Waaree's employees, who bid 5.45x times the issue potion kept aside for them. <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">Retail investors</keyword> bid for 11,16,95,301 shares, as against the 99,11,869 shares demarcated for their category. <h2>Highest ever number of applications</h2> As against the total allocated 2,02,56,207 shares, the markets bid for a staggering 1,60,91,61,741 shares. The IPO also set a record in terms of receiving the highest-ever applications (about 97.34 lakh) received by any IPO in India's history, particularly at the upper end of the Waaree's price band, which was between Rs 1,427 and Rs 1,503. Before this, Bajaj Housing Finance's IPO, which concluded in September 2024, held this record, receiving 89.07 lakh applications. One of India's biggest ever IPOs, the LICs offer worth Rs 21,008.48 crores had received around 52.98 lakh valid applications when it debuted on the bourses in May 2022. The company's GMP (grey market premium), which stood at Rs 1,550 at the end of today's trade, has been soaring exponentially in unofficial markets. With this, Waaree's estimated listing price stands at Rs 3,053, translating into a whopping 101.13% <keyword id="22471163" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="listing-gain" source="keywords">listing gain</keyword> per share for investors.

The share of the Indian subsidiary of South Korean automobile behemoth is listed at Rs 1,934 on the NSE, at a discount of 1.33% to its issue price of Rs 1,960. On the other hand, the share is listed at a discount of 1.48% to the issue price on the BSE. The IPO, touted to be India's biggest ever, was entirely an OFS (<keyword id="20209731" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="offer-for-sale" source="keywords">offer for sale</keyword>) worth Rs 27,870.16 crore and had set a price band of Rs 1,865 to Rs 1,960. As of 10:45 am today, the share was trading at Rs 1,907 on the NSE. On the BSE, the share was also trading at Rs 1,906, down by around 2.72%. The stock debuted on NSE at a price of Rs 1,934, before briefly inching up to its intra-day high of Rs 1,970. As of 10:50 am, the stock's intra-day low stands at Rs 1,844.65. With a <keyword id="19932516" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="market-cap" source="keywords">market cap</keyword> of Rs 1,51,376.41 crore, Hyundai Motors India (HMI) had opened for subscription between October 15th and 17th, 2024. Post this, the promoter's shareholding in the company has come down to 82.5%. The issue saw muted participation from <keyword id="19972907" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-investors" source="keywords">retail investors</keyword>, who subscribed 0.5x times to the IPO. However, QIBs (<keyword id="20240741" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="qualified-institutional-buyers" source="keywords">qualified institutional buyers</keyword>) had oversubscribed nearly 700% to the IPO. The company's GMP (<keyword id="19905703" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="grey-market-premium" source="keywords">grey market premium</keyword>) in the unofficial markets, as of this morning, was at Rs 48, which translates to the markets anticipating a potential listing gain of 2.45% per share. However, with a discounted listing, the stock continues to extend losses. <h2>Brokerages initiate buy coverage</h2> Experts are currently wary of the auto sector, given the ongoing slowdown in the passenger vehicle (PV) space, even as India approaches the festive season. Data from SIAM (Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers) noted that during the first half of FY25, PV sales grew at a minimal 0.5%, much lower than the projected growth of 3-4%. Most automakers have forecast muted sales growth for the upcoming quarter as well, which has further dampened investor sentiment in this space. Even Hyundai had reported an 8% decrease in domestic PV dispatches made in August 2024, compared to the year-ago period. Brokerage firm Motilal Oswal initiated coverage on Hyundai Motors India with a "buy" tag. It noted that Hyundai has a robust, well-established PV ecosystem in India to its advantage, apart from having strong backing from the parent company. "We hence assign a 27x one-year FWD multiple to HMI, relative to our target multiple of 26x currently assigned to Maruti Suzuki. Therefore, we arrive at our target price of Rs 2,345 for Hyundai Motors India, based on 27x Sep’26E earnings. We initiate coverage on Hyundai Motors India with a buy rating," the broking added. Macquarie also initiated coverage of Hyundai Motor India at a target price of Rs 2,235, implying a 14% upside to the issue price. Per the firm, "HMIL deserves to trade at a premium PE multiple versus peers due to its favorable portfolio mix and premium positioning." Nomura initiated coverage with buy rating and target price of Rs 2,472, based on FY27F EPS. "We estimate HMI to deliver about 8% volume CAGR over FY25-27F driven by 7-8 new models (including facelifts) and its EBITDA margins to improve to 14% by FY27F from 13.1% in FY24. We believe this will be led by improving mix, cost reduction and operating leverage. Overall, we estimate HMI to deliver about 17% earnings CAGR over FY25-27F," it added. As research firm Master Capital Services Ltd notes, with an improved market share in key segments due to a favorable product mix, the brand has the potential for further growth. "Investors with a long-term perspective could consider holding the stock, as future performance will most likely be driven by the company's competitive market position and product enhancements," it explained.

Hyundai IPO listing: India's biggest ever IPO lists lower than issue price, brokerages issue buy rating

Mumbai: Selling pressure continued in <keyword id="20459350" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-stock-markets" source="keywords">Indian stock markets</keyword> on Tuesday, following similar trends in Asian markets. <keyword id="19896381" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nifty" source="keywords">Nifty</keyword> and <keyword id="19896382" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sensex" source="keywords">Sensex</keyword> showed mixed openings, with the Nifty 50 index recording a marginal gain of 36 points or 0.15 per cent, opening at 24,832.20 points, while the Sensex index opened at 80,826.56 points, registering a decline of 223.44 points or 0.28 per cent. Experts noted that geopolitical pressure and the continued shift of foreign investment from India to China have added to the selling pressure on Indian equities. "Market has turned weak responding to negative cues from escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, massive FPI selling and concerns surrounding the election results due today. The most important trigger which pulled the Nifty 5.6 per cent down from the peak has been the sustained big FPI selling during the last six trading days" said V K Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Financial Services. In the sectoral indices, Nifty Private Bank led the gains with a surge of 0.55 per cent at the opening session, and Nifty Bank also rose by 0.5 per cent, while Nifty FMCG, Nifty Media, and Nifty Metal faced selling pressure. Among the Nifty 50 stocks, 20 opened in advance, 26 declined, and 4 remained unchanged. <keyword id="20015748" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Foreign-Portfolio-Investors" source="keywords">Foreign Portfolio Investors</keyword> (FPIs) have sold equities worth Rs 50,011 crores during the last six trading sessions, which has been more than offset by <keyword id="20234284" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Domestic-Institutional-Investors" source="keywords">Domestic Institutional Investors</keyword> (DII) buying Rs 53,203 crores. Despite this, the market has corrected by 5.6 per cent due to weak sentiments. Experts also noted that there are enough indicators to suggest that FPIs have been following a 'Sell India, Buy China' strategy. Elevated valuations in India and cheaper valuations for Chinese stocks have triggered this shift in FPI strategy. "The Nifty index on Monday closed at the crucial support level of 24,800, with momentum indicators in the oversold territory, which may trigger a temporary bounce. However, a weekly close below 24,800 could lead to further declines, potentially down to 24,000" said Varun Aggarwal, MD, Profit Idea. Other Asian markets also faced high selling pressure on Tuesday, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng index down by more than 7.5 per cent at the time of this report. Japan's Nikkei index was down by 1.21 per cent, while Taiwan's weighted index dropped by 0.76 per cent.
