But then, that is the actual state of the coveted C-Suite nowadays – volatile is the right word if you want to sum it up. There is no job security at the top and even the best performer for years can get redundant within the span of a few weeks. The issues could be many – right from <keyword id="646347" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="poor-performance">poor performance</keyword> to <keyword id="610960" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="business-restructuring">business restructuring</keyword> to alleged <keyword id="6375736" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="corruption-charges">corruption charges</keyword>. But the biggest factor is relevance, a perfect future-fit that can take companies ahead, according to <keyword id="67736" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Industry-experts">industry experts</keyword>. In a difficult <keyword id="34412" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="economy">economy</keyword>, companies are compelled to twist and turn to keep track of profitability and their requirements change accordingly. Hence, their leaders have to adapt, shape up or ship out, as the case might be. 
 India is no exception and business leaders across the country have been frequently ‘released’ by industry giants. Many of them leave with ‘immediate effect’ while others are on garden leave or worse still, waiting for their predecessors to turn up (just like Ballmer). Yet, most of the C-Suite executives are tight-lipped about their departures, at least here in India. We are yet to come across an announcement like the one made by <keyword id="384914" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Groupon">Groupon</keyword>’s founder and former CEO <keyword id="488139" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Andrew-Mason">Andrew Mason</keyword>. But exit happens all the same – be it discreet or blatant. Here’s a quick look at some of the top-notch C-Suite executives from India who parted ways with their respective companies in 2013, their official exit lines and what happened behind the scene.

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> co-founder <keyword id="51793" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="NR-Narayana-Murthy">NR Narayana Murthy</keyword> opened up on his biggest personal and professional regrets and said he regrets quitting as Infosys chairman. Murthy said he should have listened to other co-founders in 2014 before stepping down as the chairman. Murhty recounted, “A lot of my founder colleagues told me not to leave Infosys in 2014, to stay a few years.” “Generally, I find that I am a very emotional person. A lot of my decisions are based on idealism and probably, I should have listened to them," he told CNBC TV18. However, Murthy did clarify that he did not miss being in the campus daily. In 2014, 33 years after starting Infosys, Murthy bid farewell to the company he had set up with six other co-founders. Murthy had the longest run of about 21 years as CEO before passing on the baton to <keyword id="44604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nandan-Nilekani">Nandan Nilekani</keyword> and then S Gopalakrishnan and S D Shibulal. In October 2014, former SAP board member <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> took over as CEO. In the interview, the IT veteran termed the listing of the country's second largest software services firm on Nasdaq as his biggest success story. "I think sitting on those high stools at Nasdaq when we got listed, when we became the first Indian company to be listed on Nasdaq, and borrowing the words of Neil Armstrong to say that it is a small step for Nasdaq, but a giant leap for Infosys and the Indian software industry. I think that was the best," he said.

Regret quitting as chairman of Infosys: Narayana Murthy

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> veteran <keyword id="1513431" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanjay-Jalona">Sanjay Jalona</keyword> has quit from his position as executive vice president and is likely to join <keyword id="6354919" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LT">L&amp;T</keyword> Infotech as chief executive. 
 
His exit from the company is first top-level departure from Infosys. BPO head Gautam Thakkar had resigned after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys">Infosys</a> found that the unit had overbilled <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Apple">Apple</a>, one of Infosys's largest customers. 
 
Jalona's resignation also comes at a time when Infosys <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka">CEO Vishal Sikka</a> is trying to position the company as a next-generational services firm. 
 
Jalona, as head of manufacturing, was overseeing over $2 billion of annual business. 
 
Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=larsen+%26+Toubro">L&amp;T</a> Infotech was looking for a CEO as chief executives Vivek Chopra and Mukesh Aghi left the company in October last year. 
Presently, Jalona is on notice period at Infosys.

After 15 years, Sanjay Jalona quits Infosys

With the state Assembly polls round the corner, the ruling LDF in Kerala on Wednesday got a shot in the arm as Kerala Congress(M) faction led by Jose K Mani decided to severe its decades old ties with the Congress-led UDF and work with the CPI(M)-led front in the state. Party leader Jose K Mani also said he would quit his Rajya Sabha membership, won with the support of the UDF. Announcing his faction's political position at a press conference here, Jose expressed hope that the LDF leadership will take a decision on his party's entry into the ruling front. Jose, son of veteran Kerala Congress (M) leader <keyword id="10105448" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="late-k-m-mani">late K M Mani</keyword>, hailed the CPI(M)-led front's efforts to safeguard the secularism in the country. He also said the LDF government in the state was keen to work towards the welfare of the farming community, which is the core base of his party. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and leadership of the LDF were quick to welcome Jose faction's decision to cooperate with the front. In a statement, Vijayan said the KC(M) has taken a stand that LDF is the politically correct formation, ending its 38- year-old association with the UDF. The matters related to the party's LDF entry will be decided at the front's meeting, he said. Meanwhile, the UDF leadership flayed the move, saying Jose faction "backstabbed" the Congress-led front, which made him Rajya Sabha member. UDF convenor M M Hassan also said the Jose faction should quit all the parliamentary positions including <keyword id="10105447" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kottayam-lok-sabha">Kottayam Lok Sabha</keyword> seat won with the support of the Congress-led front. Justifying his decision to work with the LDF, he said the front has been relentlessly fighting against the growing communal forces in the country. Attacking the UDF leadership and a rival Kerala Congress (M) faction led by P J Joseph, Jose said a section in the Congress-led front "expelled" his faction from the UDF after a dispute arose over a post in a local body. The UDF humiliated the MLAs and leaders who stood by his late father K Mani, who built the UDF 38 years ago, he said. He also alleged that P J Joseph faction engaged in character assassination of the leaders of his faction. "The UDF leadership supported Joseph's bid to hijack the Kerala Congress (M). They (UDF leadership) did injustice to us," Jose alleged. Jose faction's issues with the UDF leadership aggravated in June this year after it was "ousted" from the Congress-led <keyword id="204591" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="United-Democratic-Front">United Democratic Front</keyword> (UDF) in connection with the tussle over the Kottayam district panchayat chief post. The UDF leadership had later rectified it saying the Jose group was not ousted from the front and it was only temporarily barred from the UDF meeting for refusing to honour an agreement made in public with the coalition front over sharing the Kottayam district panchayat president's post. "Technically Jose K Mani group is part of the UDF," UDF chairman and Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Ramesh Chennithala had said in <keyword id="6357416" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="thiruvananthapuram">Thiruvananthapuram</keyword> recently. Jose K Mani-led Kerala Congress (M) faction parts ways with UDF ahead of State Assembly polls

If you were to ask a random group of 100 <keyword id="53533" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="entrepreneurs">entrepreneurs</keyword> about whether they understood how a VC investor acts and behaves, you would almost certainly get an emphatic “No!” as the unanimous response (For the time being, let us overlook the fact that a group of 100 entrepreneurs is anything but “random”). 
 The failure to understand <keyword id="48981" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="VCs">VCs</keyword> is a sentiment shared, not just by rookie first-time entrepreneurs, but also by seasoned veterans, as <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=http%3A%2F%2Freidhoffman.org%2Fwhat-i-wish-i-knew-before-pitching-linkedin-to-vcs%2F">Reid Hoffman, Co-Founder of LinkedIn revealed on LinkedIn’s 10th anniversary</a>. 
 
Such a feeling of helplessness is, no doubt, exacerbated by the observation that <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forbes.com%2Fsites%2Fneilpatel%2F2015%2F01%2F16%2F90-of-startups-will-fail-heres-what-you-need-to-know-about-the-10%2F%235597b70555e1">90% of startups fail </a>and <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=http%3A%2F%2F1m1m.sramanamitra.com%2Ffront-page%2Fover-99-of-startups-face-rejection-by-investors%2F">more than 99% of the pitches made to VCs end in rejection</a>. 
 
There have been a few attempts to bridge this information gap that have taken the route of drama (and maybe even caricature), such as <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FDragons%2527_Denhttps://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FDragons%2527_Den">Dragons Den</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FShark_Tank">Shark Tank</a>, <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FSilicon_Valley_%28TV_series%29">Silicon Valley</a> and <a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fen.wikipedia.org%2Fwiki%2FTVF_Pitchers">TVF Pitchers</a>. 
But do they really reveal the truth about the entrepreneur-VC relationship? 
 
And then, it struck me! 
 
Is it just coincidence that a very similar level of ignorance and helplessness is on display when you ask a random group of 100 men, single or otherwise, on whether they understand women? 
 
Many assume that VCs say no to a startup because they have no desire to invest. 
 
Nothing could be further from the truth. 
 
VCs capitalize on the high-risk nature of startups to generate disproportionate returns for themselves and their limited partners (individuals and firms that invest in VCs). 
 
These disproportionate returns come from outstanding entrepreneurs with game-changing businesses that grow faster than any other asset of which an investor could claim a share. If there were no entrepreneurs and startups to fund, VCs would go out of business. 
 
To put it simply, entrepreneurs and VCs need each other to complete the purpose of their existence. 
 
How romantic! 
 
This new paradigm triggered a wave of memories from my experiences on both sides of the Entrepreneur-Investor table. 
 
I began to think…can the tension between entrepreneurs and VCs be attributed to an analogy that is best described as Entrepreneurs being from Mars, and VCs being from Venus’? 
 
It was a thought that eventually led to the birth to my debut book, ‘<a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.linkedin.com%2Fpulse%2Fvcs-from-venus-entrepreneurs-mars-shubhankar-bhattacharya%3Ftrk%3Dpulse_spock-articles">VCs</a><a href="https://medium.com/r/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.linkedin.com%2Fpulse%2Fvcs-from-venus-entrepreneurs-mars-shubhankar-bhattacharya%3Ftrk%3Dpulse_spock-articles"> are from Venus, Entrepreneurs are from Mars</a>.’ 
 
 
 It might be preposterous, even loony, to suggest that <keyword id="110345" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Venture-capitalists">Venture Capitalists</keyword>, a male-dominated group of professionals holding great power through their investment decisions, might share similarities with women. 
 
But patterns are hard to ignore and it is quite a strong and coherent pattern that I found emerging from my personal experiences, first-hand accounts from meeting entrepreneurs and investors, as well as from anecdotes of startups that have today become the stuff of legend, such as Infosys and Paytm. 
 
My observations revealed that the truth was, in many cases, the exact opposite of conventional wisdom and of the popular portrayal of entrepreneurs and VCs in the media. 
 
There does seem to be a way for entrepreneurs and VCs to effortlessly fall in love with each other, and yet the nature of this romance has not been well understood until now. 
 
In fact, only when you understand that entrepreneurs are from Mars and VCs are from Venus can the nature of their romance and relationship be clearly understood and explained.
