Infosys share price hits fresh 52-week high after highest-ever deal wins of over $3 billion

<ul><li>Indian tech giants Infosys and Wipro’s shares traded in the red a day after reporting strong performance in the December quarter.<br /></li><li>While Infosys fell by over 5%, Wipro plummeted by nearly 7% — both the stocks have recovered since then, but they are still in the red.<br /></li><li>Brokerages are unanimously bullish on Infosys, but they’re relatively cautious when it comes to Wipro.<br /></li></ul>Tech giants Infosys and Wipro have both logged in a stellar performance in their third-quarter earnings. The demand for cloud computing and cybersecurity services has boosted both IT companies’ earnings. But despite the strong show, they have seen their share prices fall a day after earnings. It was the sharpest single-day fall since the 2008 financial crisis.<br /><br />The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is considering closing off the trading floor in the coming week to keep the coronavirus pandemic from spreading.<br /><br />The IT sector, which was already bearing the burden of the global economic slowdown, is in for a rough ride going forward. The prolonged pandemic will impact new client acquisitions, and as a result, Kotak Securities has corrected the revenue expectation from IT companies by 2-4%.<br /><br />“We expected moderate improvement in spends among US banking clients at the beginning of the year. Coronavirus crashed Infosys stock more than whistleblower allegations

<br /><ul><li>The Securities Exchange Board of India and the Bombay Stock Exchange is looking for further clarification from Infosys.<br /></li><li>Nandan Nilekani's statement filed with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) does not include any disclosures as per Regulation 30.<br /></li><li>Infosys is also under threat of class action lawsuits from US law firms.<br /></li></ul>Infosys filed a statement with the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) yesterday too soothe its investors. But the Indian regulatory authorities aren't satisfied. <br /><br />The Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) are looking for further clarification. <br /><br />"Infosys vide an announcement date October 22, 2019, titled "Statement", submitted statement attributable to Nandan Nilekani, Chairman of Infosys, wherein it is mentioned that Infosys had received whistleblower complaints," said SEBI in a statement.<br /><br />"However, it is observed that Infosys Ltd has not made any disclosures under <a href="https://www.corporate-cases.com/2016/10/regulation-30-of-sebi-lodr-disclosure-of-events-or-information.html">Regulation 30</a> of SEBI (LODR) Regulations, 2015, w.r.t. receipt of whistleblower complaint mentioned in the announcement," it added.<br /><br />While the news of whistleblower complaints became public, day before yesterday on 21 October 2019, these complaints had been filed on September 30. The regulators believe that they should have been notified of such stock sensitive information beforehand. <br /><br />It does not help Infosys' case in this matter that a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/markets/news/infosys-share-price-signs-of-insider-trading-before-the-complaint-against-ceo-salil-parekh/articleshow/71698615.cms">large bet on a possible </a>fall of stock price as early as October 18. As many as 1.8 million shares were involved in the put option in the futures and options market, which is basically when investors make bets that either a stock would gain or lose in the future. <br /><br />The timing of this put option is so close to the news break, is suspicious. As investors lose billions yesterday, this individual or group could have made million using the insider information which Infosys had failed to disclose in a timely manner. <br /><br /><strong>A little better but a little worse<br /></strong><br />Yesterday, Infosys saw its value crash by ₹53,000 crore— its largest ever cap erosion in a single day — closing 16.21% lower at ₹643.30 on BSE.<br /><br />But, the Indian tech giant managed to erase early losses on Wednesday and is currently trading 1.18% up at ₹ 651.15 per share.<br /><br />In addition to addressing the whistleblower complaint, Infosys is also under threat of a class action with two US law firms looking to file a class action lawsuit against the company.<br /><br />Infosys has been in hot water since Monday with a group of whistleblowers accusing the company's CEO and CFO of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/business/corporates/news/infosys-whistle-blowers-accuse-ceo-and-cfo-of-concealing-information-from-board-auditors/articleshow/71682975.cms">concealing information</a> from the board.

Analysts expect Infosys to be less impacted than its peers. <br /><br />All eyes will be on new large deals that the Indian IT services giant was able to bring in over the next three months as well as the impact across different segments. <ul><li>Shares of <keyword id="6354512" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="infosys" source="Orion">Infosys</keyword> plunged as much as 9% today on lower than expected March quarter earnings.</li><li>Analysts have cut down company estimates as the profit margin of the company remains under pressure due to cost pressures led by higher employee costs and a rise in travel costs.</li><li>As a result, shares of other information technology firms also fell today in an already weak market.</li></ul>IT giant Infosys disappointed investors as the stock of the company plunged nearly 9% on poor Jan-Mar quarter earnings.<br /><br />Stable deal wins and lower than the expected profit margin of the company due to cost pressures led by higher employee costs and rise in travel costs among concerns that impacted Infosys stock. <br /><br />Infosys ADR stock, which trades on the US stock market, slipped 14% in previous 5 sessions because of weak earnings at a time when Indian markets were closed due to holidays. <br /><br />“Infosys' 4Q (March quarter) results missed estimates mainly due to muted growth of 1.2% on quarter constant currency. However, its 13-15% revenue growth guidance for FY23 and all-time high net additions reflect a strong demand outlook,” said analysts at Jefferies. <br /><br />After considering the seasonal weakness in the Jan-Mar quarter, Infosys result was still disappointing. “Infosys' growth in 4Q disappointed even considering the seasonal weakness. Muted growth in its top-2 verticals (BFSI and Retail) and top markets (North America and Europe) and a sharp decline in Life Sciences vertical possibly due to one-off contractual issues resulted in the subdued growth performance,” said a report by Jefferies. <br />                    <div type="image" title="infosys 2" height="900" width="1200" msid="90906620" hostid="261"></div><br />Besides, Infosys’ attrition worsened more in the March quarter reaching at 27.7% from 25.5% in the previous quarter.
