<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=UB+Pravin+Rao&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys Chief Operating Officer (COO) UB Pravin Rao</a> told investors the IT company will face volatility owing to weak spending from sectors like energy and insurance. 
 
However, he said <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a> will meet its FY17 revenue guidance of 11.5-13.5 per cent. 
 "Overall demand continues to be volatile," said Rao, who is also a member of the board of <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>. "We still remain confident of our guidance of 11.5-13.5 per cent. But at the same time, given the volatility of our business, given the propensity of our clients to react to volatility, we will expect some short-term quarterly bumps and ups and downs, but for the year, we remain confident,” Rao told investors. 
 
He added Infosys is facing a slowdown with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=bpo+business&amp;sortorder=effectivedate\">business process outsourcing (BPO)</a> businesses. 
 
Recently, Infosys had done a re-shuffle in its back-office outsourcing business and tasked Anantha Radhakrishnan with turning around the fortunes of the BPO unit. 
 
"We continue to face tremendous pricing pressure on the "run the business" side. It's something we've seen over the past couple of years and won't go away...Whenever a deal comes for renewal, from the client's side you can expect anywhere between 30 to 40 per cent savings," Rao said.

Infosys COO cautions investors of volatility but says will meet revenue guidance

Whether it's half a million or three million — 'low skilled' IT jobs in India are definitely at risk

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has appointed <keyword id="2603581" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Anup-Uppadhyay">Anup Uppadhyay</keyword> as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and <keyword id="1870239" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Deepak-Bhalla">Deepak Bhalla</keyword> as the new chief financial officer (CFO) of its business process outsourcing (BPO) arm. 
 
Uppadhayay, a veteran at the company, was earlier the global head of the parent company's financial services business. Bhalla, who joined the software giant in 1998, was head of its corporate accounting group. 
 "As BPO is of strategic importance to us, our endeavour is to transform it with process innovation, automation and artificial intelligence to deliver efficiency and business value to our clients," Infosys chief executive <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> said. 
 
Sikka expressed hope that the company's back office operations, under Uppadhyay and Bhalla, would set an example on how to run BPO. 
 
These appointments were made after the resignation of incumbent CEO Gautam Thakkar and removal of incumbent CFO Abraham Mathews. 
"Mathews' departure is in line with our goal of setting the highest standard of corporate governance and adhering to the letter and spirit of our code of conduct," Infosys said in a statement.

Infosys BPO continues partnership with global paint firm AkzoNobel

IT major <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has appointed Anup Uppadhayay as the new chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director of its BPO vertical, Infosys BPO Limited. Uppadhayay was earlier the vice president and global head of Delivery, Financial Services. 
	 
	The company has also hired Deepak Bhalla as the new chief financial officer of the vertical. He was previously serving the company as the associate vice president and head of corporate accounting group.

But exit happens all the same – be it discreet or blatant. Here’s a quick look at some of the top-notch C-Suite executives from India who parted ways with their respective companies in 2013, their official exit lines and what happened behind the scene.

Much before the retirement of a <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword>, the chairman or the company’s board chalk out succession plan in order to save the company from the downfall. This is what India's third largest software firm <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword> did. It appointed <keyword id="2067405" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Abid-Ali-Neemuchwala">Abid Ali Neemuchwala</keyword>, the former Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) BPO head, as its first ever chief operating officer (<keyword id="6423421" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="COO">COO</keyword>). The information was revealed in an Economic Times report. 
 
With this announcement, the process of succession planning begins at Wipro as TK Kurien’s five-year-term as CEO will expire the next year. 
 Abid Ali Neemuchwala, who is the former head of <keyword id="748094" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="TCS-BPO">TCS BPO</keyword>, and energy and utilities chief <keyword id="608152" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Anand-Padmanabhan">Anand Padmanabhan</keyword> were leading the race to be named Wipro's first COO. And Wipro picked Neemuchwala over Padmanabhan to lead the post. 
 
"Abid brings invaluable experience with his track record of building and scaling businesses. I am confident his deep understanding of technology and expertise in all facets of IT &amp; BPS businesses will help power our businesses to greater heights," Kurien told ET. 
 

	In his role, Abid will head the Service Lines of Global Infrastructure Services, Business Application Services, Business Process Services, and Advanced Technology Solutions. He will also head Business Operations; the geographies comprising Continental Europe, Africa, and LATAM; Strategic Engagements, Advisor Relationships as well as the Marketing function.
 
Earlier, another ET report had hinted at the creation of a COO position at the Bangalore-headquartered IT company to free up TK Kurien so that he could focus on technology vision and strategy. 
 Similar succession strategies were earlier adopted by other renowned IT firms. At the Mumbai-based TCS, N Chandrasekaran was appointed as the COO before he escalated to the post of CEO by replacing S Ramadorai. On the other hand at <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, S Gopalakrishnan replaced Nandan Nilekani to take over as CEO and SD Shibulal succeeded Gopalakrishnan, the leading business daily added.

<keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword>, the CEO of Indian tech giant, has something to say on the company's shockingly lower performance in the June quarter, which led to a quake in the stock markets on Friday. As per Sikka, the performance was not a result of his strategy to move Infy away from its focus on lowering costs for clients to developing innovative solutions for them; rather, it was the result of an execution failure in certain segments of the business. 
 
As per Sikka, he has begun taking steps to fix those failures. 
 
When asked about his failure in providing appropriate revenue guidance in April, Sikka said that one of the big areas which still needed to be addressed was to improve internal processes and make Infosys a real-time company, "including our ability to forecast." 
 
The humble performance in the June quarter had forced the company to mark down its revenue guidance for the full year from April’s 11.5-13.5% to 10.5-12%. In the stock market, Rs 23,000 crore of investor wealth was wiped out in a single day as a reaction to the modest performance from Infosys. 
 
Sikka told TOI that there is a structural threat over the traditional way of delivering services, and it is facing tremendous pricing pressure. He also cited the pricing pressure to two major developments; one of them is that the clients are under tremendous cost pressure, while second could be the significant growth in their ability to set up captive centres. 
 
Because of several leading global companies establishing their own technology centres in India, outsourcing volumes have taken a significant beating. 
 
"The wrong response to this, as I have been saying, is a downward spiral -- use cheaper and cheaper people and jam them more into projects faster and faster. That journey ends at one place -- at zero. The right response is to transform towards innovation. We need to take projects and services where software and automation that we deliver improves the productivity of the people and frees up people to deliver innovation. If we are not able to do such a transition, the industry will go down," Sikka said, while exclusively interacting with TOI after Q1 results were announced. 
 
Sikka also said that he has noted several trends that point to his strategy emerging as a success. For example, more than one-third of the revenue growth of $55 million in Q1 came from automation and innovation, new services of the company. 
 
He added that Skava, a platform for mobile websites, apps and other digital shopping experiences for large retail customers, and the Edge series of innovative cloud-based software applications for enterprises, both did well. 
 
Talking of issues, he said that the company ran into problems when it came to "small areas -consulting, package implementations, decline in India business and Finacle (banking product) and a flat BPO". 
 
"Because it's the first quarter and it has disproportionate effect on the overall year's performance, it has brought down the guidance. It has not changed the fact that our strategy is working," Sikka added.

Yes, it is true. <keyword id="24019" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="automation">Automation</keyword> is going to take a toll on jobs and the effects can be seen. Thanks to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=automation&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">automation</a>, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys </a>released 8,000-9,000 employees within a year. 
 <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> HR Head Krishnamurthy Shankar said, “We have been releasing about 2,000 people every quarter and also training them in special courses that will help them in their new assignments.” 
 
Shankar agreed that automation is set to seep in with more intensity and hiring will considerably come down. 
 
Infosys has trained nearly 490 people in a first batch of machine learning and the use of <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=AI&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">artificial intelligence</a> (AI). 
 
Infosys added 5,700 people in the first nine months of this fiscal, compared to about 17,000 in the same period last year. In the December quarter, Infosys' total employee strength actually declined -an extremely rare occurrence for India's No. 2 IT services company . The total strength fell by 66 to 1,99,763. 
 
Sectors that will be highly impacted due to automation will be BPO, application management and infrastructure management. 
 
Wipro’s Global HR head Saurabh Govil in November had said the company released 3,200 people through automation to do more innovative work.

Worrisome? Infosys releases around 2,000 employees every quarter, thanks to automation

<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Infosys+&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys </a>has promoted President and Chief Delivery Officer, <keyword id="164937" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ravikumar">Ravikumar</keyword> S, to the Deputy Chief Operating Officer and he will report to <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> COO U B Pravin Rao with immediate effect. 
 
His current responsibility was heading the global delivery organization and now along with it, Ravikumar S will oversee certain strategic business enabling functions and will be based in India. 
 
Infosys CEO <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Vishal+Sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Vishal Sikka</a> said the appointment will provide "more bandwidth". 
 
"Ravi is just amazing, he is an extraordinary colleague. Just look at the scale at which we operate, it is massive. So, Pravin and I both need more bandwidth," he tols ET. 
 
Sikka added that changes will continue to happen even though "there is no particular grand plan". 
 Ravikumar also oversees Infosys operations in Japan. He is the Chairman of the Board of <keyword id="305987" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys-China">Infosys China</keyword> and is also on the board of Infosys Public Services, Infosys Consulting Holding AG, Panaya (an Infosys company) and McCamish Systems (an Infosys BPO company). 
 
Infosys had elevated Jayesh Sanghrajka as Deputy CFO in 2015. 
 
"Jayesh is the deputy CFO to Ranga (Ranganath Mavinakere) and so, Praveen now has a deputy. So this is how we are setting it up," he told ET. 
 
When asked if Ravikumar's appointment as his deputy is an indication that he would be stepping down from his position, Rao quipped that he is in "no hurry to retire". 
 
"...we had lot more senior bandwidth based out of India. And our business has continued to grow and become much more copmplex and we need more bandwidth here and so that's the primary reason (for the appointment)," Raotold ET. 
 
Ravikumar, who joined Infosys in 2002, had started his career as a nuclear scientist at the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Bhabha+Atomic+Research+Centre&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Bhabha Atomic Research Centre</a>. 
 
He has also worked with Sapient Corporation, Oracle Corporation, Cambridge Technology Partners and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Meet Ravikumar S, the new Deputy COO of Infosys

<keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) moved away from the <keyword id="1140467" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bell-Curve">Bell Curve</keyword> model of appraisal and now is mulling over the new one. 
 
TCS is planning to bring in different models of appraisals for its IT and BPO employees and rework its increment system from the scratch. 
 
It is likely that some employees will be assessed on the basis on project completion, doing away with the half yearly method. 
 
"There will be separate appraisal systems for IT and BPO employees and we are even looking at how senior executives should be appraised. This is all being tested out now. Nothing firm has been decided,” a TCS executive with knowledge of the matter told ET. 
 
TCS might also build a platform where regular feedbacks would be recorded. 
 
"The system for BPO employees would be more based on social media, like the internal Knome platform we currently use,” the executive said told ET. 
 
TCS will do appraisal once in a year, instead of half-yearly appraisals, targeted employees would move to a project-end appraisal cycle - and that the projects could last anywhere from two months to a year. 
 Apart from TCS, <keyword id="30331" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="HCL-Technologies">HCL Technologies</keyword> is also building new platforms for appraisals. 
 <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> has already launched iCount platform this year.

TCS is planning to build a tech platform after it moved away from Bell Curve appraisal model

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> veteran <keyword id="1513431" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sanjay-Jalona">Sanjay Jalona</keyword> has quit from his position as executive vice president and is likely to join <keyword id="6354919" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="LT">L&amp;T</keyword> Infotech as chief executive. 
 
His exit from the company is first top-level departure from Infosys. BPO head Gautam Thakkar had resigned after <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys">Infosys</a> found that the unit had overbilled <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Apple">Apple</a>, one of Infosys's largest customers. 
 
Jalona's resignation also comes at a time when Infosys <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka">CEO Vishal Sikka</a> is trying to position the company as a next-generational services firm. 
 
Jalona, as head of manufacturing, was overseeing over $2 billion of annual business. 
 
Meanwhile, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=larsen+%26+Toubro">L&amp;T</a> Infotech was looking for a CEO as chief executives Vivek Chopra and Mukesh Aghi left the company in October last year. 
Presently, Jalona is on notice period at Infosys.

After 15 years, Sanjay Jalona quits Infosys

CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> is doing everything he can to achieve his target of making <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> a $ 20-billion company by 2020. With his aim in sight, Sikka has started preparing blueprint for the same. 
 
To achieve his goals, Sikka plans heavy-mining top 100 clients of the company and assign each of them with dedicated partners. The CEO also plans to drive up margins through automation, squeeze higher share of revenues from services like consulting and acquisitions. 
 
In a bid to turnaround the fortunes of Infosys, Sikka himself is dedicating more time with company’s top customers like Bank of America and Apple. 
As per the insiders, Sikka has made it a top priority for the company's senior management to help mine these accounts. 
 
"If you look at the past few years, TCS and Cognizant have been far ahead of Infosys in terms of incremental revenue generation. So mining the top accounts and maximising revenues is the centre-piece of the new-and-renew strategy," the source told Economic Times. 
 
Top customers like Microsoft, Phillips and ABN AMRO were briefed on the company's strategic bets during the Infosys Confluence last month. Infosys is targeting incremental revenue growth -- a similar strategy adopted by larger rivals such as Accenture and Cognizant. Infosys is also looking to strengthen the sales teams assigned to these accounts. 
 
During the event, Sikka also told customers that company’s design-thinking approach has so far generated over a 100 consulting projects. 
 
Infosys has trained about 25,000 employees in design-thinking and another 22,000 would be trained in the ongoing financial year. Infosys has also trained about 1,000 employees in artificial intelligence. 
Infosys is also making a strong push towards automation in its existing commoditised businesses. ET reported the company has set a long-term internal target of up to 70% automation in its infrastructure management business, and up to 55% automation in its business process outsourcing business. 
 Presently, 35-40% of its BPO processes are automated. Sikka aims to generate 10% of the company's overall revenues from new fields like analytics and <keyword id="6373689" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Cloud-computing">cloud computing</keyword> by 2020. 
 
In BPO, Infosys also plans to roll out offerings like forecasting-as-a-service, big data, analytics, digital asset management and search. 
 
"The company needs to increase organic per capita revenue to at least $75,000 in the face of 'tremendous pricing pressure' that the CEO foresees for this business," UBS Analyst Diviya Nagarajan said in a note to clients last week, adding, “We view this as a significant challenge as it will entail substantial organisational change with a limited safety margin." 
 
Infosys, which will launch a rebranding campaign in the upcoming months, plans to hire about 25,000-30,000 employees this year.
