The HDFC Bank advances as of September 30 rose 16% YoY to ₹10.4 lakh crore, and the deposits increased 20% to ₹12.3 lakh crore. The shares of HDFC Ltd ended 0.46% lower yesterday, whereas HDFC Bank ended 0.50% higher. Tata Motors Tata Motors-owned subsidiary Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) reported a 12% dip in sales in the second quarter ended September 30. However, the sales improved by nearly 50% during the July-September quarter as against 74,067 units in the April-June period of the current fiscal, the company said in a statement. The shares of Tata Motors ended 0.52% higher yesterday. Britannia Industries Bakery and dairy products major Britannia Industries said its board has approved issuing bonus debentures and payment of dividend to reward its shareholders in such difficult and unprecedented times due to the coronavirus pandemic. The board approved 1 bonus debenture for 1 share held, and payment of ₹12.5/share as dividend. The shares of Britannia Industries ended 0.56% higher yesterday. Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals The wholly-owned arm of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals, Smartchem Tech, raised ₹105 crore via debentures from international finance corporation. New Delhi, Feb 19 () BSE-listed Infibeam Avenues Ltd on Wednesday said it has forayed into the US, the world's second largest digital payments market by revenue, and will offer its solutions to web and mobile-based small and medium enterprises (SME). Infibeam will offer its vast array of digital payment solutions to web and mobile based SMEs largely operating in the online retail, education, hospitality and travel and tourism industry, apart from other industry verticals under the brand CCAvenue, the company said in a statement. "US market presents a trillion dollar digital payments processing opportunity. As part of our vision to change the way customers trade and transact globally through digitisation of commerce, we are committed to provide the best-in-class online digital payment solutions to merchants and customers in the US," Infibeam MD Vishal Mehta said. He added that to strengthen its position in the region, the company will explore opportunities to partner and collaborate with large financial institutions including selective acquisitions to extend its digital payments solution reach to merchants and customers in the US. "After innovating and dominating the Indian and UAE markets, we are looking forward to launching our advanced real time payment gateway solutions in USA, which is a huge market with over 280 million electronic payment users doing over 450 transactions per capita per year," Infibeam Executive Director Vishwas Patel said. Infibeam Avenues expands digital payments biz to US

New Delhi, Jan 28 () Infibeam Avenues on Tuesday said its consolidated net profit stood at Rs 25.9 crore in the December 2019 quarter.
 The company had reported a net profit of Rs 30.9 crore in the year-ago period, Infibeam Avenues said in a regulatory filing.
 Its income from operations stood at Rs 158.3 crore in the quarter under review as compared with Rs 319.1 crore in corresponding period of 2018-19, it added.
 In the last fiscal, the company decided to focus on the core businesses of digital payments and enterprise software platforms.
 In sync with this strategy, the company had divested its non-core businesses such as online e-commerce marketplace, and technology platform solutions for small and medium enterprises.
 However, the company continues to offer technology platforms to large enterprise clients and governments.
 The revenues in December quarter of 2018-19 include the revenue of non-core businesses which is not reflected in current quarter ending on December 31, 2019, the company said.
"We will continue to invest and build cutting edge technology and innovate in digital software and payments that will improve the way merchants and customers trade and transact through digitisation and democratisation of commerce," Infibeam Avenues Ltd MD Vishal Mehta said.
 Infibeam said it has reported highest-ever digital payment processing volume of Rs 15,900 crore despite intense competition and overall slowdown in the economy.
 There were several regulatory reforms in the digital payments business which resulted in pricing pressures leading to marginal impact on net revenues, it noted.
 However, the volume and mix of transactions processed resulted in higher margins and overall improvement in profitability, it added.
 The company said it now plans to enter into the card issuance business.
 "Last year, we had invested in Go Payments (Instant Global Paytech) for 48 per cent stake in the company. Infibeam will make an additional investment of Rs 7 crore in the business to increase its stake in Go Payments from 48 per cent to 52.38 per cent, subsequently making it a subsidiary," it added.
 Go Payments offers prepaid cards (including meal cards, gift cards and general prepaid cards) to corporates and SMEs. Currently, Go Payments has an active agent network of over 10,000 SMEs for distribution and process payments at a run-rate of over Rs 3,600 crore by offering various financial services. SR RUJ

Infibeam Avenues Q3 net profit at Rs 26 cr

 Infibeam — a digital company in India that deal with online transaction and e-commerce — informed the Indian stock exchanges that its auditor SRBC &amp; Co, shared unpublished price sensitive information (UPSI) over emails and with third parties not once, but multiple times. And, as the stock markets opened Monday morning, its stock price plummeted by almost 8% to ₹40 per share before recovering. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the <keyword id="43628" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bombay-stock-exchange">Bombay Stock Exchange</keyword> (BSE) — two of India’s biggest stock markets — are yet to act on the issue but Infibeam maintains that there has been a breach of trust and loss of faith.

 The relationship between Infibeam Avenues and SRBC &amp; Co is dates back to the merger between Avenues India and Infibeam. The accused had raised several alarms over Avenues India’s payment gateway. For one, ₹240 million of the <a href="https://m.dailyhunt.in/news/india/english/entrackr+english-epaper-entrackr/auditor+alarms+concerns+over+advance+payments+to+vendors+and+revenue+filed+by+infibeam+in+q3-newsid-109043718">reported</a> revenue by Infibeam in December 2018 actually belonged in the first and second quarters of the financial year according to the auditors asking Infibeam to clarify its calculation processes. Even in the market, things haven’t been the smoothest for Infibeam, where its stock prices <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/how-a-whatsapp-note-triggers-crash-in-infibeam-avenue/articleshow/66002863.cms">dipped</a> by 75% in the last financial year. After SRBC &amp; Co’s termination, accounting firm Shah &amp; Taparia will continue on as auditors for the company. The public scrutiny has a detrimental effect on SRBC &amp; Co’s reputation as well as EY in light of IL&amp;FS defaulting on its payments to lenders. Indian e-commerce firm Infibeam fires its auditor for alleged data breach — stock tanks as much as 8%

In the latest development, <keyword id="541988" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="SnapDeal">Snapdeal</keyword> may merge with <keyword id="761157" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infibeam">Infibeam</keyword>, which is India’s only publicly listed e-commerce company. As per various reports, Infibeam is in talks with Snapdeal for possible merger talks and has even put a term sheet that may value Snapdeal at $1 billion. If this deal goes through, Infibeam and Snapdeal together will create a company valued at $2 billion. Ahmedabad-based Infibeam has a market capitalisation of Rs 6,100 crore. The development comes after Snapdeal rejected a $700-750 million offer for sale to <keyword id="6354742" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Flipkart">Flipkart</keyword>. However, PTI reports Flipkart may make a new offer of $900-950 million. "While Infibeam has a focus on business-to-business commerce, Snapdeal's is a consumer-led online retail platform which is why this merger may bring in synergies in their operations. While Infibeam has given a term sheet, it's not the end of the road for Flipkart," ET quoted sources as saying.

In 2006, two freshmen from IIT-Delhi gathered enough spunk to knock at the door of Kalyanaraman Srinivasan, Amazon’s <keyword id="2463621" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="global-technology-head">global technology head</keyword> for retail, who was in India to set up a development center at Chennai and a regular at the Bangalore office of the global ecommerce biggie. The duo requested fifteen minutes of ‘we-time’ as they bubbled over a few ideas they considered path-breaking. They wanted to know which one they should focus on. “I took 1.5 seconds and said if they really wanted to be entrepreneurs, they must replicate Amazon in India and be patient about it,” says Srinivasan, in a southern accent cradling a Midwestern twang. The duo turned out to be Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal who founded Indian ecommerce giant Flipkart the very next year, recently raising a billion dollars from investors to take on Amazon’s Indian foray. 
 Srinivasan’s advice bode well for the youngsters and made them very rich indeed but the operative word was “patient”. Despite zero signs of profitability in the ecommerce eddies, Srinivasan remains positive. After all, more than 20% of the GDP of the world comes from emerging markets with barely 3% of capital investment therein. In other words, there are not many tradable liquid securities out here, he reasons, adding that companies like Flipkart, Snapdeal and <keyword id="761157" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Infibeam">Infibeam</keyword>, where he has personally invested, will raise the tide. 
 
“The rising tide will raise all the boats first and every company will get irrational valuations but those who focus on customer experience in the long term, will stay there and go higher, and those who don’t, will fall off,” says Srinivasan. As a precursor, he points to the dotcom boom in the US in 1999-2000. “Trillions of dollars went into valuations there but the customer experience only got better…so the irrationality of valuations is relative,” he points out, observing the Indian ecommerce market potential to be in the $100-200 range and with only $6 billion active market, excluding train and flight tickets, Flipkart’s valuation of $5 billion makes perfect sense. 
 Today, the 44-year-old Kalyanaraman Srinivasan is Chief Operating Officer, <keyword id="384914" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Groupon">Groupon</keyword>, a portmanteau for group coupon, and at one time, the fastest growing company in the world that grew from $1 million in seed money to $1 billion in two years. On a whistlestop tour covering Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore and India, he met up with CD in the Delhi office of Groupon, housed in a rundown commercial complex in the southern part of the capital city. That’s where, over cuppa and crackers, he deconstructs the journey of a 15-year-old from poverty to power, politics at the workplace, lessons from Sam Walton, problem-solving from Amazon to startups, and how somewhere in between, he came to be known as Kal Raman. 
 
Education is salvation 
 
Born and raised in Mannarkoil in Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli district, down south of Chennai, Raman’s father, a tehsildar, passed away when he was all of 15. The family of four siblings struggled through the odds on his mother’s monthly pension of Rs 420. She was, however, uncompromising on her children’s education. That explains how liberally Raman uses this phrase—“Education is salvation.” 
 
After high school, Raman got through both medical and engineering college. While the medical college stood in his district, he opted for engineering in Chennai where he knew nobody. “I wanted to see how far I can fly,” he reminisces. Till today, Raman has a knack of making the tougher choice. It’s as if he’s conditioned that way. “The longer it takes to get something, the longer it stays with you….most of the things that look easy, are not good in the long term,” he says.

Not quite okay, Tata 
 
Raman’s first job was in Mumbai with Tata Consulting Engineers, where he landed up in slippers on his first day at work, sending his boss into a fit of rage. Upon hearing his story, he was not only given money to buy shoes but also fixed up at his friend’s Mumbai residence. Within a month, his boss sent him to Bangalore where he computerized the entire office administration. Thus started Raman’s steady rise in the world of information technology, and he did a lot of learning on his own, including ‘C’ programming. Just as he was about to get confirmed, he gave in his resignation since he signed up with TCS at Chennai. As a code jock, he ended up in Edinburgh servicing the Scottish Equitable Insurance Company and that’s where the first signs of friction with his boss became evident. 
 
As Raman deep-dove into the world of insurance, he figured the mathematical model of the company was completely flawed—if the company had more than 15% reimbursement, the resultant number would be a big negative, while the marketing documents of the company said that people would get 23% redemption. He tried explaining it to his boss but got cold shouldered. 
 
Raman would come in late and work well into the night. Being the last to leave, he was noticed by someone by the name Chris, who asked him why he stayed up so late despite being a programmer from an outsourced company. Upon being told of a questionable business model, Chris got curious and stayed up with Raman till 2 am one morning. A few days later, as Raman came in to work, his boss was pacing up anddown the room and glanced at him menacingly. He said that the European general manager of TCS had been called by the company and they were all going to see the management and that it concerned him. “If I were you, I would have packed my bags for India,” the boss said. Eventually, the trio entered a room with suits and at the head of the table, Chris sat in bespoke CEO attire. Before a word was uttered, Raman’s boss started making excuses and virtually disowned him, labeling him as a rotten apple in the TCS pantheon of “good and loyal workers”. That’s when Chris got up and silenced him, explaining why TCS needed to hire more people like Raman. “What my CPO and CIO couldn’t solve, a 22-yearold has done, and I thought it to be pertinent to acknowledge it in front of his bosses,” he said. 
 
The American Dream 
 For Raman, there was no looking back. With the help of Chris, he applied to companies in the US and got through <keyword id="46675" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Wal-Mart">Wal-Mart</keyword>, where he rose to become the giant retailer’s technology director within a year. In fact, he admittedly got promoted 18 times that year from the lowest employee to the top rung, catching the eye of Wal-Mart promoters Sam and Rob Walton. He also picked up the invaluable lessons of long-term planning and customer-centricity from Sam Walton, the father of modern retail. That’s where Raman learnt business execution under his mentor, Doyle Graham, who again passed away at 45, exactly the age his father had died. Orphaned twice, Raman had no will to forge on. He hung around for six months before signing up with Blockbuster, the biggest DVD rental company then and as he predicted its doom, which eventually paved the way for newbies like Netflix, he started out afresh as CEO of drugstore.com. At Drugstore, he had an enviable board of directors, which included among others, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, Bill Gates’ wife and philanthropist Melissa Gates, Starbucks’ Howard Schultz and Amazon’s Jeff Bezos.

He ran Drugstore through the tumultuous 9/11 years as corporate America took a beating and share prices tumbled. When his recovery plan was rejected by the board, Raman knew it was time. However, Bezos sought him out and wanted him to go to Seattle to take a shot at some of the problems at Amazon. Raman, of course, chose the toughest one to crack—the non-media businesses were growing faster than media and Amazon was losing $200 million worth of free cash flow back then. He identified the problem and automated the entire retail infrastructure to solve it at one go. At that juncture, there were 6,000 people working at Amazon and he had 3,000 under him. Mission accomplished, Raman moved on to start his own venture Global Scholar with venture capitalist Michael Milken until selling out in 2010 and signing up as COO of Groupon in May 2012. “Now I joined Groupon when everyone wrote the company off and I love being the underdog,” he says. 
 
Galvanizing Groupon 
 
In 2012, Groupon’s international business was crumbling and it was left to Raman to steady the ship. Today, along with the domestic US business, the international division is in the black. “We are building a category, we are not building a company…. what Groupon is now, Amazon was in 2001,” he says. 
 
As he pumps in adrenaline to the business, Raman has a roadmap. He’s applying all that he learnt at Wal-Mart, keeping the merchant community engaged and customers happy by offering the lowest prices and an efficient delivery mechanism. Will he be able to pull it off? “We’re more worried about the long term and so we’re trying to get more efficient by passing off the savings to our merchants and customers so that they become more loyal to Groupon and check our website first before they go for any other transactions….we have about 1,600 people in technology to do that out of 12,000 worldwide,” he says. At $2.5 billion revenue and with zero debt, Raman’s optimism is well-founded. And while valuations like $8 billion scorch the terrace, he maintains a straight face and waits for the tide to raise the boats. What then, after he steers Groupon to the safe shores of supra-growth and profitability? “I’ll do something very big in education in India, with or without Groupon,” he says.

Three companies - low-cost carrier <keyword id="6354706" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indigo">IndiGo</keyword>, staffing firm <keyword id="133742" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TeamLease">Teamlease</keyword> and e-retailer Infibeam - have lined up for public offers to generate around more than Rs 3,000 crore from investors, reported PTI. According to banking sources, the draft papers for all the three Initial Public Offers (IPOs) were being submitted to capital markets regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (<keyword id="35210" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="sebi">SEBI</keyword>) today. <keyword id="300127" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Interglobe-Enterprises">InterGlobe Enterprises</keyword>, which runs the country's biggest airline by market share under 'IndiGo' brand, wants to raise Rs 2,000-2,500 crore through the <keyword id="6354763" type="EVENT" weightage="80" keywordseo="IPO">IPO</keyword>, sources said, adding Teamlease is looking to raise Rs 450-500 crore and Infibeam about Rs 400 crore. 

	IndiGo flew 27.69 lakh passengers in May, accounting for more than a third of the total traffic. Last month, all Indian carriers together ferried a total of 71.27 lakh passengers. 
 

	The privately-held IndiGo is one of the two domestic carriers making profit. The other profitable airline is GoAir. 
 Earlier this month, Sydney-based aviation think-tank '<keyword id="109712" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Centre-for-Asia-Pacific-Aviation">Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation</keyword>' (CAPA) said IndiGo is estimated to have recorded a profit of $150-175 million in fiscal 2015. 

	IndiGo was founded in 2006 by travel entrepreneur Rahul Bhatia and US Airways former chief executive Rakesh Gangwal. 
 After a prolonged lull, the IPO space has become very active and over 30 companies have lined to raise funds totaling over Rs 20,000 crore through public offers, which also include Cafe Coffee Day, Matrix Cellular and <keyword id="470455" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="GVK-Airport">GVK Airport</keyword>. 

	At least 20 of these firms have already got the go-ahead from SEBI to launch their respective IPOs while draft IPO papers of five firms are currently "under process" but may be cleared soon. 
 Three companies -- Cafe Coffee Day, Matrix Cellular and <keyword id="2179992" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="RBL-Bank">RBL Bank</keyword> -- approached the regulator last week and they are now being followed by the likes of IndiGo, Infibeam and Teamlease. The flurry of activity in the IPO space follows stabilising trends in the <keyword id="35199" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="stock-markets">stock markets</keyword> and the companies are looking to raise funds to finance their business expansion and loan repayments and meet working capital requirements. 

	It also comes at a time when the regulator SEBI has announced a slew of fresh reforms in the IPO space, including for halving the listing period to six days and making the application process for investors entirely cheque-free.

IndiGo, Infibeam, Teamlease want to generate over Rs 3,000 crore via IPOs

<ul><li> The nearly 6% rally in RIL shares accounted for almost all of Nifty’s gains on May 28.</li><li>For the week, RIL has gained over 5.7%, making this the fourth best week for its investors this year. </li><li>The stock has seen gains of over 6% thrice before this ⁠— in January, February and April, 2021.</li><li>Overall, the stock has remained in a narrow ₹300 band since November last year.</li></ul><keyword id="3820" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mukesh-Ambani">Mukesh Ambani</keyword>’s promise of transforming <keyword id="6355199" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="reliance-industries">Reliance Industries</keyword> (RIL) from an energy giant to a technology-driven consumer enterprise had the street eating out of his hands last year. The excitement sobered down along with the lull, post the flurry of investments. However, the shares of RIL are getting hot again as some of the promises move closer to reality. The nearly 6% intraday rally in the shares of India’s biggest conglomerate, which has interests in everything from oil and gas to telecom to retail, is the most significant move in the stock in the last 2 months. The surge in RIL shares has been so strong that it accounts for nearly all the gains on the benchmark index, Nifty, as of 1 pm (May 28). Compared to the last week, it is up by over 2%. A Bank of America Global Securities report dated May 19, 2021 suggests that RIL is in the driver’s seat when it comes to telecom, retail and digital fronts. “Overall, we find RIL well placed in its consumer business: telco, retail &amp; digital to benefit in coming years as it gains traction with improving scale,” the report stated. A Delhi court on Wednesday discharged senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor in a case related to his wife <keyword id="138503" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Sunanda-Pushkar">Sunanda Pushkar</keyword>'s death in a luxury hotel here. Special Judge Geetanjali Goel passed the order in a virtual hearing. Tharoor thanked the judge, and said it was "an absolute torture for last seven-and-a-half-years" and that it was a "great relief". During the arguments, while police had sought framing of various charges, including 306 (abetment of suicide), senior advocate Vikas Pahwa, appearing for Tharoor, told the court that the investigation conducted by the SIT completely exonerated the politician of all the charges levelled against him. Pushkar was found dead in a suite of a luxury hotel in the city on the night of January 17, 2014. The couple was staying in the hotel as the official bungalow of Tharoor was being renovated at that time. Tharoor was charged under sections 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 306 of the Indian Penal Code by the Delhi Police, but was not arrested in the case. He was granted bail on July 5, 2018.
