New Delhi, <keyword id="10502779" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-all-india-rubber-industries-association">The All India Rubber Industries Association</keyword> (AIRIA) has called for rationalisation of <keyword id="4776373" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tax-Structure">tax structure</keyword> and said that the inverted duty structure impacts the local industry. It also said that the government should consider providing adequate support and handholding to the producers and should device '<keyword id="1465575" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Phased-Manufacturing-Programme">Phased Manufacturing Programme</keyword>' for enhancing the localisation in the <keyword id="159613" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="rubber-sector">rubber sector</keyword> of India. The industry body noted that import of raw materials such as <keyword id="388853" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Natural-Rubber">natural rubber</keyword> and latex attract import duties of as high as 70 per cent, while that on finished goods is much lower, which impacts the local rubber goods producing industry, and stands as an obstacle towards the vision of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'. "Some of the products which used to come from China are being routed through Thailand and Vietnam at either zero per cent duty or 5 per cent duty. India should correct the customs duty for the sector. The Indian rubber industry uses more than 70 raw materials and some of them also attract anti-dumping duty as well," AIRIA said. As per the rubber industry body, the ideal duty structure for growth in the country should be the highest for finished goods, medium for intermediate goods and the lowest for raw materials. At present, the structure stands inverted, it said. AIRIA further said that the sector has to resort to import of natural rubber as the quality produced in the country is not "up to the mark" and the tyre manufacturers buy the bulk of domestically-produced high-quality supplies, leaving no choice for the MSMEs and the other rubber goods producers than to go for imports for good quality raw materials from foreign players. Chandhrasekharan, President of AIRIA said that in line with the Centre's vision to make a self-reliant India, the nation has tremendous potential to grow and could become a hub for sourcing <keyword id="7885733" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="rubber-components">rubber components</keyword> and products if the inverted duty structure in the rubber sector is corrected. AIRIA noted that there are many goods which use rubber as a component and the producers of these components are bound to import the products due to irrational duty structure. All India Rubber Industries Association seeks tax reforms for rubber industry

<keyword id="35052" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="industrial-production">Industrial production</keyword> in May slowed to a mere 2.7% from 5.6% a year ago. It was dragged down by <keyword id="6362048" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Manufacturing">manufacturing</keyword>, offering more reasons for an <keyword id="30067" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="RBI">RBI</keyword> rate cut. 
 The <keyword id="124816" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Index-of-industrial-production">Index of Industrial Production</keyword> (IIP) for April too has been at 3.36% as opposed to the earlier 4.1%. 
 
The data released shows a sharp decline in output in the manufacturing sector and slight pick-up in the mining sector. Manufacturing still constitutes over 75% of the index. 
 
Power generation also slowed from 6.7% of May last fiscal to 6% this year. The growth in manufacturing was 2.2% in May compared with 5.9% in the corresponding month of the last year. The mining sector expanded 2.8% compared with 2.5% in May 2014.

Industrial Production was slack in May

<ul><li>Whether it was surviving the second wave or breaking viewership records during Diwali, 2021 was a rollercoaster year for the television industry.</li><li>Broadcasters spent the first half of 2021 recovering from the impact of multiple lockdowns but the festive season helped the industry get back on its feet.</li><li>As we move forward this year, a few industry experts tell us about new opportunities that 2022 will bring forth for the broadcast industry.</li></ul>With cancellations of live events and sports and no scope to produce fresh General Entertainment Content, the broadcast industry faced a huge creative challenge and financial burden in 2020. However, the television industry was quick to find its ace card -- they started re-airing their classic shows and movies to woo their audience. The return of old mythological shows like Ramayan and Mahabharat from the 90s not only led to an exponential rise in viewership but also increased advertisers’ count. These shows soon became the main source of entertainment among Hindi GECs, and both adults and kids watched the epic stories together. With the audiences stuck at home, television was quick to break its viewership records. Doordarshan had announced that Ramayan became the world's most-watched show on April 16, 2020 with 7.7 crore viewers. Doordarshan’s average daily viewers also grew by 62 million. The need for escapism, news updates and knowledge also increased in times of trouble, creating a need for content. As the lockdown restrictions eased in the country, GECs resumed their production in phases and the great advertising carnival of IPL brought the much-needed cheer for the broadcast industry and consumers in September. The year 2020, undoubtedly, had a far-reaching impact on consumer behaviour and their viewing patterns changed in 2021. Despite economic challenges that were accelerated with the second wave of COVID-19, legacy advertisers continued to increase spends on TV and starts-up were the biggest advertisers on IPL 2021. The second wave did take the industry a step back but television recovered gracefully as the festive season began in August. As per BARC, Ad Volumes on TV for September 2021 was the highest since 2019, which was 15%. The highest spurt was observed for Bhojpuri language channels, where ad volumes were more than double that of 2019, and 38% higher than in 2020. While Hindi language channels account for the largest share of TV advertising, Tamil and Telugu language channels witnessed robust growth over 2020. At the same time, with new changes in viewing patterns after the pandemic, over-the-Top platforms also posed a big threat to television viewership. However, broadcast players started realigning their goals, understanding these changing patterns and adopting agile approaches for content development. As a result, broadcasters have been working towards tailor-making their content that is adept to multiple platforms’ front-end user interfaces. This approach accelerated digital transformation in the broadcast industry by a few years and helped us believe that television and digital are indeed capable of growing hand-in-hand in India. This trend will continue to take shape further in 2022 as well. So as we move forward this year, the broadcast industry is optimistic about rising to its full strength together. We spoke to a few industry experts to discuss what lies ahead. Here’s what they said: Abhishek Dutta, South Asia Network Head, POGO and Cartoon Network: Homegrown kids’ content is definitely the one trend to watch out for. In 2021, WarnerMedia India’s kids’ entertainment channels, Cartoon Network and POGO launched several successful shows that celebrate Indian flavors as relevant localized content continues to hold sway among Indian viewers. According to FICCI-EY media and entertainment industry report (March 2021), regional languages will make up 60% of television consumption by 2025. This has dictated our strong hold on the pulse of the Indian audience and is reflected in our continued investment in homegrown content. This trend also means there is a massive opportunity for the wider animation industry sector in India – from creation and production to developing talent. Our fans-first strategy has shaped the “glocal” approach to our kids’ business in India. One that is focused on world-class animation and relatable stories. 100% homegrown shows and international content localized to suit Indian viewing preferences will continue to rule the roost. Anu Sikka, Head of Content Creation, Channel Strategy &amp; Research at Kids Cluster, <keyword id="187712" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="viacom18" source="Orion">Viacom18</keyword>: Engaging viewers in a language they best understand is essential in order to deliver great experiences. As content creators, it is important to narrate stories in a way that young dynamic minds can understand, relate and build a strong affinity. In India, with an exponential growth in the consumption of regional language content, viewers are keen on engaging with the characters in a language of their choice, thereby leading to larger brand visibility and deeper engagement levels. An increase in multi-lingual content will be the key driver for growth in the television industry. Curating multi-lingual content will lead to audiences developing an unbreakable bond with the storyline and its characters and further strengthen the relationship with the brand. Ruchir Tiwari, Cluster Head - Hindi Movie Channels, ZEEL: In 2021, there was a lot of acceleration because of the pandemic in terms of content consumption. It is evident in the way many billions of Indians have consumed long form content, multi-language content. Predominantly for the Indian market, expectations of the audience are very, very clear. What this is going to do is force all content makers to make good content. I think, right now, whatever the ratio of good content is -- the success rate was never very high because good content is a complex game plan. Now, 2022, it will be an opportunity as well as a challenge to the content creators to make compelling content and then the creators will start from this point of personal development. For me, compelling good content is a must have. Without that, there is no way out and that's the biggest opportunity we all have as an industry. Simran Hoon, CEO, The Q: With the hyper-dynamic market confusion and change in viewers’ preference, the manner and method of storytelling has gained prominence. Innovation in storytelling is hence the need of the hour and this will be one of the strongest trends that will emerge in the coming year. GEC’s will have to re-strategize to showcase content that is not just original and relevant but also interactive and engagement-driven. Another trend for 2022 is how content on Television is viewed. TV will be seen as a medium of entertainment and not ‘the destination.’ The Q has been an early adopter of this trend and has built itself in a unique style with our multi-platform availability. Anshul Ailawadi, Business Head – Youth, Music and English Entertainment, Viacom18: While 2021 was about optimism and perseverance, 2022 will be about taking bold bets and experimenting with content. The last 2 years have accelerated several shifts in consumer preferences and habits. Creators are now focussing on different feedback loops as markers of success instead of conventional viewership metrics. Content is being consumed in so many ways, it’s hard to assess (accurately) the potential of a story at the time of greenlighting it. We will see new concepts, new storylines and new faces across genres as age-old rules are tested, and at times, even broken.

A critical function of DC3 is to provide non-attributional threat information reports to companies in the DIB CS program. DC3's Defense Industrial Base Collaborative Information Sharing Environment (DCISE) serves as the operational hub for the DIB's Cybersecurity Program. For instance, the <a href="https://www.dc3.mil/Organizations/DIB-Cybersecurity/DIB-Cybersecurity-DCISE/">DC3 DIB Collaborative Information Sharing Environment (DCISE) portal</a> allows access (with registration) to tools such as Krystal Ball, which provides DIB companies with automated "outside-in" assessment of their cybersecurity vulnerabilities.The site also contains useful self-assessment survey capabilities to aid DIB companies in understanding areas for improvement in their cybersecurity posture.The NSA <a href="https://www.nsa.gov/About/Cybersecurity-Collaboration-Center/">Cyber Collaboration Center</a> harnesses the power of cooperative industry partnerships to prevent and eradicate foreign cyber threats. Advanced manufacturing economies in Europe are already implementing features such as self-driving logistics vehicles like the <a href="http://www.dhl.com/content/dam/downloads/g0/about_us/logistics_insights/dhl_self_driving_vehicles.pdf">Open Shuttle developed by KNAPP</a> to navigate autonomously within warehouses, picking up cartons and containers and transporting them to specific locations. The glasses also allow employees to view the dispatch information of the item. And in our own Seagate factories, robots are building our disk drives and extremely sophisticated vision systems support our manufacturing processes. 
 These are significant advancements for the <keyword id="176218" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="manufacturing-industry">manufacturing industry</keyword>, particularly in Asia where the growth of manufacturing has largely been due to lower labor costs for production in the emerging economies, and almost exclusively focused on export. Today, with growing urbanization and a swelling middle-class with stronger spending capabilities, production in Asia is <a href="http://www.bcg.it/documents/file197250.pdf">shifting towards addressing domestic consumption</a> and infrastructure development. A savvier consumer market is also forcing manufacturers to design and create better designed products with shorter go-to-market times. 
 
Government-led initiatives such as ‘Made in China 2025’ and ‘Make in India’ are driving spend in modern warehouses, improved logistics services and software to integrate the manufacturing and supply chain ecosystem. Industry 4.0 is set to <a href="https://www.atkearney.com/innovation/asean-innovation/asean-digital-revolution/full-report/-/asset_publisher/VHe1Q1yQRpCb/content/the-asean-digital-revolution/10192">transform manufacturing in the ASEAN bloc</a> by bringing operational efficiencies to both traditional manufacturing industries – automotive, electrical and electronics – and high-value product manufacturing such as printed electronics and miniaturization. 
 
These changes herald the arrival of the massive data flows that will be created and the unique IT challenges that this information transfer will bring into the manufacturing environment. 
 
Addressing unique challenges in an evolving landscape 
 
Unlike traditional corporate IT infrastructures, manufacturers require a different sort of IT framework. Their IT environments have to support design teams that are geographically dispersed as well as external suppliers that play a vital role in component and product development. This requires a collaborative system that is accessible without compromising privacy and security. 
 
In addition, manufacturers need a system that is rapidly scalable to make use of the data pouring in from various channels: sensors in their factories, inventories, raw materials and other segments along the supply chain. With increased machine-to-machine communication and robotics entering the manufacturing process, the volume of data being generated, analyzed and accessed by manufacturers and their partners is set to grow significantly. By 2020, the cumulative digital universe of data is set to grow tenfold to <a href="http://www.forbes.com/sites/bernardmarr/2015/09/30/big-data-20-mind-boggling-facts-everyone-must-read/#7881fb0b6c1d">44 zettabytes</a>, from 4.4 zettabytes in 2015. 
 
The solution to these new challenges is cloud computing. Cloud computing is multifunctional and provides immense computing power, storage and analytical tools in a scalable environment. The benefits not only include more efficient operations but also improved customization. Customer expectations for product design, quality and availability are high and with an increasingly fad-driven culture, product life cycles are also shortening. Brands that can customize products and bring them to market quickly stand to gain better profit margins. Consequently, on the operational front, real-time access to transmitted component or product status information allows manufacturers to improve on product quality issues or defects quickly and effectively. 
 
A strategic pursuit of productivity and business agility 
 
At the heart of cloud computing architectures are universal building blocks of IT, such as networking, processing, and storage technologies, all of which are required to optimize performance and leverage the growth in capacity. Cloud environments typically exploit different storage technology tiers to meet different service level objectives (SLOs) and services level agreements (SLAs). A key benefit of using cloud computing services is the removed hassle of having to decide what type of physical storage drives to buy. Cloud computing service providers cater for this by providing various availabilities, costs, capacities, functionalities, and performance options that meet different SLA and SLO requirements. 
 
According to IDC, adoption of the public cloud is <a href="http://siliconangle.com/blog/2015/04/15/idc-cloud-adoption-accelerates-in-manufacturing-industry/">most popular amongst manufacturers in Asia</a>. The main reason for this is that public clouds allow remote manufacturing facilities to leverage modern IT and communications systems without having a large team onsite. However, this view may change in the future as the manufacturing sector in the region continues to adapt to the Industry 4.0 transformation. Sensitive data, services, and applications are best stored and implemented on a private cloud. By contrast, services available to customers and partners across the supply chain are best served by the public cloud. In the long term, manufacturers are likely to deploy hybrid clouds that effectively marry community cloud services while protecting their intellectual property. 
 
The onward march towards Industry 4.0 in Asia is a time for manufacturing companies to reevaluate their IT strategies for the future. Done right, manufacturers have an opportunity to embrace new technological platforms and applications to move beyond mass production and open up entirely new business models.

In fact, India is the fifth largest preferred retail destination globally and embraces a very strong position as far as its market potential is concerned. Retailers are consistently trying to tap the gravity of this potential by using the latest technologies along with new generation tools like data analytics, social commerce, CRM solutions, etc, which form the backbone of modern retailing. Bolstered by healthy economic growth, changing demographics, increasing disposable incomes, urbanisation, changing consumer tastes and preferences, and higher consumer confidence, year 2019 experienced strong retail sales. While traditional and unorganised retail formats continue to dominate the retail market, organised retail is growing at a faster pace driven by technology intervention. The industry is now expected to reach $1400 billion by FY2024 from $790 billion in FY 2019, growing at a CAGR of 12%. Emerging technologies like AR, VR, Artificial intelligence, IoT, cloud platforms, etc. take into consideration multiple consumer interactions through digital platforms in the form of reviews, suggestions and AI-based product assortments, to make in-store digitization possible. By connecting with the consumers at all possible touch points, these techniques are also enabling the retailers to influence consumer behaviour. With technology being a key facilitator in driving engagements and with existing consumers and acquiring new customers, retailers can foresee increased sales and reduction in the cost of operations. Meanwhile, considering the growing consumer consciousness and their preference for choice and convenience, retailers are leveraging data-driven technologies to meet their expectations. Key learning for the retailers to emerge as game changers in 2020 The evolving mind-set of Indian consumers expecting seamless shopping experiences across every channel; brick and mortar stores, e-commerce platforms or mobile apps, demand the retailers to work consecutively towards acquiring competitive advantage in 2020. This can be done by using these innovative retail formats and technologies: <ul><li>Experiential retail: Millennials tend to make the majority of their choices based on their experience instead of the products. So, retailers must focus on developing a customer-centric approach in their businesses, where the consumer can interact with the product or brand and give their feedback as well. An interactive methodology would enable the retailers, especially in the brick-and-mortar circle, to initiate a better brand recall and increased sales. </li></ul><ul><li>Immersive technologies: While online players specifically in fashion &amp; lifestyle and beauty &amp; personal care segment are already making it big by embracing the concept of experience-based shopping using AR/VR, offline stores too are joining the bandwagon by implementing these immersive technologies to redefine convenience for consumers. This means consumers can now simply walk in, find their preferred products/outfits through a virtual inventory and try the outfits via virtual mirror without actually having to do it physically. This combination of technology in stores would facilitate seamless experience to the consumers. In fact, by 2020, the retail industry will emerge as the top spending industry on AR and VR. </li><li>Big Data: Leveraging Big Data to observe and evaluate buying patterns, trends, etc, has been quite revolutionary in the online retail industry. It is now making its way into the offline retail space to create a significant effect on its future. Big Data can enable retail businesses to understand their customer expectations by predicting the popularity of products and identifying the relevant customers for each one of them. </li><li>Social commerce: Millennial consumers are becoming more demanding with time and this can pose challenges for the retailers in future to get their brand noticed amid all the traffic. Social commerce platforms can enable retailers to raise brand awareness and drive direct engagement with customers through pictures and videos of products or brands posted by the latter. Retailers can capitalise on the consumers sharing their experiences and stories on the web in the form of reviews and recommendations. </li></ul>The expectation from modern retail has transformed completely, as the idea here is not just to enhance the experience but also being able to guide the consumers towards making the right purchase decisions by understanding their profile. Having realised the tremendous scope of mass digitization in the retail ecosystem, retailers now must take proactive steps to streamline their day to day operations in 2020, making it exciting and rewarding time for all the stakeholders in the industry.

Indian retail industry: The year that went by and outlook for 2020

The <keyword id="654379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-automobile-industry" source="Orion">Indian automobile industry</keyword> is setting out on a journey with hopes for a sustained growth momentum in <keyword id="3249892" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="2023" source="Orion">2023</keyword> and further embracing clean technology amid the lurking speed breakers of rising interest rates and cost increases due to new emission and safety norms, having witnessed a strong comeback from the COVID-led downturn this year. While the passenger vehicles (PV) segment is set for record sales in 2022 despite the lingering effects of supply chain constraints and semiconductor shortages, the two-wheeler space is yet to see sustained sales buoyancy after having suffered for most of the year. According to industry estimates, PV sales can reach around 38 lakh units this year. The three-wheelers and commercial vehicles segments have also witnessed good growth in 2022 compared to 2021, albeit on a low base of last year, which was affected by the second wave of COVID-19 and manufacturers will be keen to carry forward the momentum to the new year. As per industry observers, 2023 will also see acceleration in adoption of electric vehicles, which has already started taking root in 2022, especially in the two-wheelers segment. For potential passenger vehicle buyers, 2023 may not ring in the best news as vehicle prices are set to increase next year as companies prepare to conform to stricter emission norms which kick in from April 1, 2023. Many manufacturers like <keyword id="44883" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="maruti-suzuki" source="Orion">Maruti Suzuki</keyword>, <keyword id="42747" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="tata-motors" source="Orion">Tata Motors</keyword> and Hyundai have already announced plans to increase prices from January next year. Besides, rising interest rates and not so bright global economic situation and its impact on India in the days to come are some of the factors which are keeping the industry in a cautious mode. "Increase in price always has a certain negative impact on sales. But we still do not know how much the prices will go up and what will happen to input cost and foreign exchange. These are uncertainties which will always be there," Maruti Suzuki India Chairman R C Bhargava told PTI. He, however, stated that the domestic car industry has revived in the last few months and the semiconductor shortages are also going to abate in 2023. "Putting it all together, our estimate would be that next year would probably be a reasonably good year for the industry. I think we should do at least as well if not better than 2022," Bhargava said. The country's largest carmaker will keep bringing in cars, especially more SUV models, to cater to the customer demand, he noted. Industry body Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) Director General Rajesh Menon said the passenger vehicle industry adopted the second phase of fuel efficiency regulations this year from April 2022 and is gearing up to meet the stringent second phase of BS VI emission norms from April 2023. Discussions are also underway to implement various new safety regulations for passenger vehicles in 2023, he said. "Implementation of these new regulations could raise the cost of the vehicles and this coupled with global recessionary trends are of concern going forward in the year 2023," Menon pointed out. Besides, with rising inflation, the RBI was compelled to increase the repo rates a couple of times this year and this increase in interest rate can impact the demand trends for all vehicle segments, he cautioned. Though the overall numbers from January to November 2022 have shown appreciable growth for all segments including passenger vehicles, this has been achieved in the backdrop of a low base in 2021, which was affected by the second wave of COVID-19, Menon stated. Mahindra &amp; Mahindra (M&amp;M) Executive Director (Auto and Farm Sectors) Rajesh Jejurikar, however, remained confident about the industry maintaining the current sales momentum. "At M&amp;M, all models will comply with BS-VI.2 norms as per timelines set by the government and the price / cost difference may not be as steep as it was for the BS-IV to BS-VI transition," he asserted. While acknowledging that the semiconductor shortage continues to be dynamic and rising input costs and interest rates are some other challenges that the industry is managing, he remained optimistic about sales momentum continuing next year. "Apart from these headwinds, we look forward to an action-packed 2023 on the back of huge demand from customers," Jejurikar said. Tata Motors Managing Director - Passenger Vehicle and Electric Vehicles Shailesh Chandra pointed out that it would be worthwhile to see the impact of macroeconomic factors like inflationary pressure on the industry. "I would say that the growth is going to be high this year but next year on a very high base, with the interplay of so many tailwinds and headwinds, it would be still growth, but to what extent that growth would be on the high base, that will be seen," he noted. Kia India Chief Sales Officer Myung-sik Sohn said stricter emission norms are a positive for the industry's collective efforts of trying to minimise pollution from vehicles. However, they will surely have an impact on vehicle prices. "You will see a hike in prices across all OEMs, but looking at the high demand for cars currently, we expect little impact on sales momentum," he noted. Automotive dealer's body Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) noted that the PV segment still continues to hold a strong order book for several models which is expected to continue for a few months. "The OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) need to continue with the creation of excitement through new launches, product upgrades etc... We expect the production soon to be back to normal and we can bring down the long waiting period to normal," FADA President Manish Raj Singhania stated. The long waiting period and flexible consumer behaviour during the festive season have helped the industry to see movement in the segment, but once the demand and supply balance is restored, the slow-moving models will be a challenge for the industry, Singhania said. Commenting on the sales growth outlook, ICRA Vice President and Sector Head Corporate Ratings Rohan Kanwar Gupta said the rating agency expects the industry demand to remain steady and volumes to grow by 6-9 per cent in FY2024. "The capex outlay for OEMs is estimated to remain heightened (an estimated outlay of Rs 650 billion over FY2023-FY2025, with the OEMs also budgeting for a substantial outlay towards new product development, including development of capabilities/platforms for electric vehicles," he added. Elaborating on the luxury car segment, Mercedes-Benz India's outgoing Managing Director and CEO Martin Schwenk said, "We have to see how the overall overall economic climate is there. Overall, confidence is there that 2023 should be a good year. The world is dynamic but at the moment, we are starting with a positive momentum into next year." As for the two-wheeler segment, Menon said while an increase in interest rate can impact the demand trends for all vehicle segments, the government has also hiked the long-term insurance premium, which specifically impacts the two-wheeler segment. "Two-wheeler demand has remained weak over the past few years, with consumer sentiments impacted by factors such as income uncertainty during the pandemic period and a persistent hike in two-wheeler prices led by both regulatory changes and inflationary pressures," ICRA's Gupta said.
