A non-cognisable offence information report (NCR) was registered on Monday against Grover after a video showed him commenting on Indore's top rank in the Centre's cleanliness survey and purportedly claiming it had been "bought". Following the development, Grover shared the video of his controversial statement in a post on his X. "Sorry to Indore. You've got great people and a city. But politicians everywhere have got no chill! Unnecessary politics being made out of a statement made in jest in a playful conversation on Bhopal vs Indore. Where the audience had fun - no offence was meant. None taken by anyone. No one getting offended now was even present in the room," he said in the post late on Monday night. He further said, "Not sorry to any politician. Ever. No one. Any party. FIR kar lo (register an FIR). Case kar lo (register a case). Koi farak nahi padta (it doesn't make any difference) - I am not a pushover - won't be bullied. Don't make an issue where there is none. It might be an election year - but people are smart. Indori people - super smart. I'll come to Indore when I wish, as many times I wish - and am confident of Indori mehmaan nawazi (good hospitality)." On Bhopal vs Indore, his favourite remains Bhopal, Grover wrote, adding that it would be dishonest of him to put Bhopal lower when he feels it is not only Madhya Pradesh's best city but also India's. Indore city of Madhya Pradesh has remained on top in the Centre's Swachh Sarvekshan for six consecutive years. Addressing an event here on Sunday, Grover is heard in the video saying, "See, there is a concept - playing to the gallery, that is, wherever you go, praise it saying I have never seen such a nice city. Now the problem with me is that for three-four years I have heard that Indore is the cleanest city...you have bought the survey. It's a simple thing." Grover, however, immediately clarified that he was not saying there was filth in Indore, and that he meant several construction works are going on in the city. An NCR was registered against Grover under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 499 (defamation) and section 500 (punishment for defamation) on the complaint received from the Indore Municipal Corporation, Lasudia police station in-charge Taresh Kumar Soni had said on Monday. After an NCR is registered, if the complainant wishes, he can file a case in court at his personal level, he explained. Indore's Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said, "I have seen Grover's video. His statement is an insult to the hard work of the city's people and sanitation workers for cleanliness. We will take appropriate legal action against this insult and also serve him a notice for defamation." State Home Minister Narottam Mishra, who is in-charge of Indore district, also criticised Grover's statement and said, "Those who have garbage in their mind will only see filth." Indore Municipal Corporation chief sanitary inspector Sanjay Ghavri, on whose complaint the NCR was lodged, told PTI that Grover's controversial statement had insulted the people of the city. "This statement has hurt thousands of sanitation workers of the city who are engaged in cleanliness work from early morning till late night," Ghavri said.

New Delhi, Mar 14 () Film exhibitor PVR Cinemas on Saturday said it has received licences to operate four new screens at Indore in Madhya Pradesh. The company is opening the new screens at PVR Treasure Island Mall in Indore, a statement said. The now nine-screen property will introduce two mainstream and two special formats - PVR PlayHouse and PVR 4DX in the existing five-screen cinema, it added. The company mentioned that due to recent Madhya Pradesh government order on temporary closure of cinemas as a precautionary measure to avoid spread of COVID19, the screens will be opened as soon as the order is lifted. With this expansion, the PVR has augmented its screen count in Western Region to 258 screens across 61 properties and 18 screens across four properties in Madhya Pradesh. The property can now accommodate 1,555 audiences. "We are excited to introduce two new formats for our patrons in the region. PVR PlayHouse and 4DX technology have received an exponential response from the cine lovers so far and we are hopeful that it will be a success in this market as well," PVR Cinemas CEO Gautam Dutta said. "With this, we continue to reiterate our focus on making inroads into smaller markets in India where there is significant growth potential," he stated. PVR to open 4 more screens in Indore

Bhopal, Jun 22 () GST intelligence officials have detected tax evasion of Rs 105 crore by a cigarette manufacturing firm in Indore in the last one year, according to an official statement issued on Monday. The officials of the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) here had conducted searches at the firm's premises last week that revealed that a secret exit had been set up on the rear side of the factory through which unaccounted raw materials were brought in and finished goods cleared, it said explaining the modus operandi. It was also found that the generator sets used for operating machines were manipulated to suppress production, the probe agency said. "Investigations conducted by the DGGI has unearthed a major tax/ duty/ cess evasion estimated to be about Rs 105 crore only for the period since April, 2019 till May, 2020," said the statement issued by the Additional Director General, DGGI Bhopal. Similar evasion is suspected to have been resorted to by the unit during remainder of GST and erstwhile central excise periods also, it said. "Hence the total revenue evasion, which would be clear only after completion of investigation, is suspected to be multiple times higher," the DGGI said. The financial investigations into the dealings of the mastermind, who was recently arrested by the DGGI in another case, has indicated that he had opened a media house in which he declared his circulation of newspaper copies at 1.2-1.5 lakh per day while actually circulation was only 4,000-6,000 per day, it said. "Thus, the mastermind of this fraud laundered huge amounts of illicit wealth (in cash) earned from illicit pan masala/ cigarettes business by declaring fraudulent sale of newspapers and also booked fictitious advertising incomes," the statement said. The DGGI said that, from the interrogation of the factory supervisor, accountant and other staff, it is estimated that less than five per cent of the production was accounted for since last many years. "Even for the accounted production, the major buyers (of these five per cent sale) have been found to be fictitious," it said. On June 19, the DGGI officials were also successful in locating one of the clandestine and unregistered godown used by the tax evaders to conceal the packing material containing specific brands of cigarettes such as K10 and A 10, the statement said. "Investigations have revealed that the seized packing material is sufficient to pack 5000 cartons (each carton containing 12,000 cigarettes) with estimated printed MRP of Rs 27 crore," it said. However, it is suspected that there may be a large number of other such clandestine and undeclared godowns in and around Indore which DGGI officials are attempting to locate, the statement said. The supplier of these two brands of packing materials has confirmed the unaccounted supply of about 1,500 cartons per month, it added. As part of 'Operation Kark', the DGGI Bhopal officials had conducted searches in the premises of over a number of pan masala/ tobacco dealers and distributors from June 9 to 12th, leading to huge seizures of clandestinely stocked non-GST paid pan masala/tobacco and detection of estimated Goods and Services Tax (GST) evasion of Rs 400 crore. The operation has been named 'Kark' -- considering the high Goods and Services Tax (Kar in Hindi) loss and the reported adverse effects of consuming illicit tobacco not subject to food and safety standards leading to high prevalence of oral cancer (Kark) in India. One of the masterminds and financial beneficiaries in this case was arrested from Mumbai on June 15. Further investigations revealed that he was involved in manufacture and supply of cigarettes from a unit in Indore. Data analysis by the DGGI officials indicated that this unit had paid a GST of only Rs 2.09 crore and Rs 1.46 crore in last two financial years, respectively. Based on further analysis and information collected, searches were conducted at five premises connected with this unit last week, the statement said. "The tax evasion syndicate in this case involves directors of the company, transporters, supporting manufacturers and raw material suppliers. Number of these persons are presently absconding and have not joined DGGI investigations," it said. AKV SMN

GST intelligence officials detect Rs 105 crore tax evasion by Indore-based cigarette manufacturer

Bhopal, Jun 13 () Tax evasion of Rs 225 crore has been detected by Central GST intelligence officers after they busted illegal pan masala manufacturing units in Indore and arrested three persons for their involvement in the huge racket. The officers of Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) conducted joint raids at 16 suspected illicit and undeclared warehouses and residential locations in Indore and Ujjain between Tuesday and Friday, an official statement issued on Saturday said. "Based on preliminary investigations by DGGI, it has been estimated that the accused persons and their associates have evaded GST of around Rs 225 crore on the goods sold illicitly during the period July, 2019 till March, 2020," it said. The total duty implication in this fraud is estimated to be around Rs 400 crore, the statement issued by the DGGI said. "During the emergent months (April &amp; May, 2020) of pandemic lockdown also, these persons are believed to have resorted to large scale illicit sale and supply of pan masala/ tobacco," it said, adding that further investigation in the matter was continuing. The statement said that organisers and masterminds made an unsuccessful attempt of disrupting the enforcement officials by engaging a mob of about 20-30 people during the search at one of the residential and later at a factory premises on Thursday and Friday. "However, both these attempts to disrupt government function were effectively thwarted by the DGGI enforcement officers with timely and professional assistance by Madhya Pradesh Police, who were always the part of the search operations throughout," the statement said. In view of the serious offences committed, three accused persons were arrested on Friday, it said. The DGGI investigations indicate that the masterminds of this fraud had set-up eight companies in the real estate, hospitality and media sectors to launder illicit wealth generated from these businesses. The accused persons are believed to have used more than 70 cargo trucks for orchestrating this GST fraud for the last many years. "The cargo trucks were found to be bearing display of 'On Press Duty' for ferrying the illicit consignments of pan masala/ tobacco and their raw materials within Madhya Pradesh and to neighbouring states. The drivers were found to be carrying identity cards of a local Indore newspaper," the statement said. The DGGI had recently detected an annual GST evasion of Rs 18.77 crore and made seizure of illicit goods and cash worth Rs 2.92 crore. This had led to the arrest of one Pakistani national residing in Indore. In the latest operation named 'Kark', three independent groups found to be involved in large scale clandestine manufacture, undeclared supply and illicit sale of pan masala/ tobacco without payment of GST have been covered by the enforcement agencies. The operation was named 'Kark' -- considering the high Goods and Services Tax (Kar in Hindi) loss and the reported adverse effects of consuming illicit tobacco not subject to food and safety standards leading to high prevalence of oral cancer (Kark) in India, the statement said. During the search operation which was also conducted in Jabalpur and Bhopal in addition to Indore and Ujjain, unaccounted finished goods (branded pan masala and tobacco) and primary raw material such as betel nuts, raw tobacco, essence and packing material, have been seized in large quantities from undeclared premises, said the statement issued by the Additional Director General, DGGI, Bhopal. The officers who conducted raids in Indore and Ujjain, which are the state's worst coronavirus-affected areas, followed necessary social distancing protocol and wore gloves, masks and other protective equipment, the agency said. "To avoid detection, the masterminds and organizers of this fraud had floated the partnership/ proprietorship/HUF firms engaged in manufacturing and trading of pan masala and tobacco owned on paper by three dummy persons. These three dummy persons had actively colluded and knowingly participated in the GST fraud," it said. Certain masterminds of the fraud and financial beneficiaries have not joined the investigations, the DGGI said. "They have been summoned by the central GST intelligence department for tendering statements under the provisions of Central GST Act, 2017," the probe agency said. The sale and distribution of pan masala and chewing tobacco had been completely banned across India due to the pandemic-induced lockdown from March 25 considering its risk in spreading COVID-19 infection. "This detection and evidence collected by DGGI indicates that some unscrupulous manufacturers, dealers may have, unfortunately, taken undue benefit of this emergent situation. The market information suggests that these banned goods were being sold and consumed in some places within Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra during the lockdown period, at 4-5 times their usual market rates," the statement said. GST intelligence detects Rs 225cr tax evasion, busts illicit pan masala manufacturers in Indore

Indore, Jan 18 () Runway repair work at the AAI-managed Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar International airport has forced the flag carrier Air India to cancel its Dubai flight from the city for three months, starting February 1, a source said on Saturday. 
The airline, however, said it is taking "necessary steps" to ensure the flight continues to operate as per its schedule. 
The national carrier operates from Indore a daily non-stop service to Dubai and back.
In a statement on Saturday, Air India chairman and Managing Director Ashwani Lohani said the airline is in "consultation" with Airports Authority of India on this issue.
"Due to runway repair work at Indore airport, Air India's Dubai-Indore flight is getting affected," Lohani said.
"The airline (is) in consultation with airports Authority of India (on this issue) and is taking necessary steps to ensure the continuance of this flight," he added.
According to a source, the national carrier has been forced to cancel its Dubai-Indore and connecting Indore-Delhi flight for three months, starting February 1 due to the runway repair work.
However, since the repair work is to be carried out during the night time, the Indore-Dubai flight, which departs in day time, will continue to operate as per schedule, he said.
The source said Air India has also offered as an option to the Indore-bound passenger to book on its Delhi or Mumbai flights from Dubai, from where it will fly them to their destination on its domestic network.
"We have been informed by Indore airport authorities that they are trying to give special permission to Air India to operate Dubai-Indore flight. if we get the permission, the flight will be reinstated," the source added. IAS MKJ

Jio 5G services are now available across 72 Indian cities

The order worth EUR312 million (Rs 2,643 crore approx.) includes the design and manufacturing of 234 standard gauge metro cars for Line 7 extension, which is 12.558 km of Pink line on the Mukundpur- Maujpur corridor and, the Line 8 extension, which is 28.92 km of Magenta line for the Janakpuri West - RK Ashram corridor, according to a statement from Alstom. Alstom will also design and manufacture of 78 standard gauge metro cars for the 23.622 km Silver line between Aerocity and Tughlakabad, including 15-year maintenance of these 78 cars. The statement said that Alstom would supply its Metropolis trainsets for this order. Metropolis trains offer a unique design, a wide range of configurations and ensure the highest performance due to the perfect combination of proven and reliable components and innovations, the company said. With its extensive track record, low lifecycle costs, and keen focus on passenger experience, Alstom said its Metropolis metros set the standard around the world. Talking about the new contract, Olivier Loison, Managing Director, Alstom India Cluster, said that "Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) is amongst the largest urban clusters in the world. Google becomes one of the first companies to pay Wikimedia - the group behind Wikipedia

Bhopal, Jul 3 () GST intelligence officials carried out more than 50 search operations in the last one month at various premises of pan masala and cigarette manufacturers in Indore and detected tax evasion worth over Rs 500 crore, according to an official statement issued on Friday. In order to protect government revenue, six immoveable properties and 14 bank accounts have been provisionally attached as part of the investigation proceedings by the officials of Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence (DGGI) here. "Operation Kark to counter illicit sale of pan masala/tobacco/cigarettes, which was initiated on 30th May, has till now detected GST evasion of about Rs 512 crore in last one year (period), while five people have been arrested in this operation," the statement issued by Additional Director General, DGGI, here said. In the last one month period, the officials of central GST intelligence have conducted as many as 53 searches under this operation, it said. The operation has been named ''Kark'' -- considering the high Goods and Services Tax (Kar in Hindi) loss and the reported adverse effects of consuming illicit tobacco not subject to food and safety standards leading to high prevalence of oral cancer (Kark) in India. Officials said that the sleuths part of the searches acted as corona warriors by conducting operation in parts of Indore affected by the deadly coronavirus pandemic. In a recent operation, the GST intelligence officials had detected tax evasion of Rs 105 crore by a cigarette manufacturing firm in Indore in the last one year. As a result of searches conducted in the last week of June, additional evidence suggests that the GST evasion for the period April 2019 to May 2020, by the firm is Rs 270 crore, according to the statement, adding that the amount may rise further. "A search by officials of central GST intelligence was conducted on June 25, 2020 at the premises of the supplier of filters used in (manufacture of) cigarettes (by the Indore based firm)," it said. Investigations revealed that this unit had declared, on invoices, to have provided filters to three dummy firms. Whereas, the filters had been supplied to only one firm, which was searched by the officials, the statement said. One of the proprietors of the dummy firm was found to be an employee of a media organization run by the accused running these illegal units, it said. On June 29, three immovable properties located at Indore and nine bank accounts belonging to the accused and his associate companies involved in GST evasion were provisionally attached, the statement said. "As many as seven people which include directors of the companies (manufacturing cigarettes), transporters and their representatives, key associates in the GST fraud are presently absconding or not appearing under formal summons and are not cooperating with the legal proceedings," the DGGI said.
