With the increase, diesel is priced at Rs 80.78 a litre in the National Capital, up from Rs 80.53 a litre on Monday. The oil companies, however, kept petrol prices unchanged across the country, resulting in diesel extending its gain in Delhi from 10 paisa earlier to 35 paisa now. Delhi is the only metro city where Diesel is priced higher than petrol and this has been maintained since June 24, when for the time ever the transportation fuel climbed up over petrol. Apart from Delhi, diesel is still cheaper than petrol by Rs 6-8 per litre in other metro cities. Diesel is priced at Rs 79.05 a litre in <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> that is an increase of 22 paisa over Monday's price, at Rs 77.91 a litre in <keyword id="12864" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Chennai">Chennai</keyword> (19 paisa increase) and Rs 75.89 a litre in <keyword id="6354925" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> (25 paisa increase). Officials in oil marketing companies said that diesel prices are seeing more volatility in international market so the price changes in the fuel segment has been higher. But with global oil prices also rising again and set to touch $43 a barrel, the expectation is that fuel prices may again see an uptick in coming days. Before Tuesday, Fuel prices have remained unchanged for the seven consecutive days since June 30 across the four metros. Prices of the transportation fuel have had a pause after rising to record levels in 23 of the past 31 days after the oil marketing companies (OMC) resumed the daily price revision system from June 7 that kept the petrol and diesel prices to rise incessantly till June 29. During the daily hike till June 29, diesel prices in Delhi recorded a new feat by overtaking petrol prices, making the common man feel the heat. New York, Researchers, including one of an Indian-origin, have found that <keyword id="44893" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="shift">shift</keyword> workers are at a significantly increased risk for sleep disorders and metabolic syndrome, which increases a person's risk for heart disease, stroke and type 2 diabetes. Night-shift workers are especially prone to developing sleep disorders and metabolic syndrome. The risks increase even more for those who work irregular or rotating shifts, said the study, published in 'The Journal of the <keyword id="3351631" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="American-Osteopathic-Association">American Osteopathic Association</keyword>'. "The strength of our economy and safety of our society depend heavily on night shift workers, it is critical we address the health issues facing people in this line of work," said Indian-origin researcher and study lead author <keyword id="8716487" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="kshma-kulkarni">Kshma Kulkarni</keyword> from Touro University in the US. One study found nine per cent of night-shift nurses developed metabolic syndrome, compared to only 1.8 per cent of day shift nurses. Other studies have noted that risks gradually increase with accumulated years of shift work. According to the researchers, working nights disrupts individuals' circadian rhythm, the body's internal clock responsible for neural and hormonal signaling. Once a person's circadian rhythm is desynchronized from their sleep/wake cycle, they will likely experience disturbances in hormonal levels, including increased cortisol, ghrelin and insulin and decreased serotonin, among others, the study added. The cascade of hormonal changes is what prompts the development of metabolic disorders and causes people to develop multiple chronic conditions. Sleep in a 7- to 8-hour block every 24 hours, ideally at the same time each day and schedule the main block of sleep as close to evening or night as possible to minimize circadian disruption, the researchers recommended. Take an additional nap for 20 to 120 minutes earlier in the day to prevent fatigue, they added. Exposure to light promotes wakefulness in general, so researchers recommend night shift workers increase their light exposure prior to and throughout their shifts. Prior studies have shown shift workers are more likely to eat snacks higher in sugar and saturated fat while consuming less protein and vegetables, and more likely to skip meals. "It's true that getting enough sleep, eating right and exercising are critical to everyone's health," Kulkarni said. "However, the nature of shift work is so disorienting and discordant with those principles, we really need to help people in those jobs strategise ways to get what they need," Kulkarni added.

In a fight against novel <keyword id="1754604" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus">coronavirus</keyword> (Covid-19), the researchers have found that <keyword id="7379" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singing">singing</keyword> -- particularly loud and consonant-rich singing -- spreads a lot of <keyword id="9415137" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="aerosol-particles">aerosol particles</keyword> and droplets into the surrounding air -- increasing the spread of Covid-19 virus. "We have studied the amount of particles we actually emit when we sing -- and by extension -- if we contribute to the increased spread of Covid-19 by singing," said the study authors from Lund University (LU) in Sweden. There are many reports about the spreading of Covid-19 in connection with choirs singing. Therefore, different restrictions have been introduced all over the world to make singing safer. "So far, however, there has been no scientific investigation of the number of aerosol particles and larger droplets that we actually exhale when we sing," said study researcher Jakob Londahl of LU. For the study, published in the journal <keyword id="9908397" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="aerosol-science-and-technology">Aerosol Science and Technology</keyword>, 12 healthy singers and two people with confirmed Covid-19 took part in a research project. Seven of the participants were professional opera singers. In the chamber, the analysis was conducted of the number and mass of particles emitted by singers during breathing, talking, different types of singing and singing with a face mask. During the song tests, aerosols and larger droplets were measured using strong lamps, a high-speed camera and an instrument that can measure very small particles. The louder and more powerful the song, the greater the concentration of aerosols and droplets. "We also carried out measurements of virus in the air close to two people who sang when they had Covid-19," the team wrote. Their air samples contained no detectable amount of virus, but the viral load can vary in different parts of the airways and between different people.
