The <keyword id="1565295" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-Prize">Indira Gandhi Prize</keyword> for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2019 will be conferred on renowned naturalist and broadcaster Sir <keyword id="711617" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="David-Attenborough">David Attenborough</keyword>. His name was selected for the prize by an international jury chaired by former president <keyword id="6359124" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="pranab-mukherjee">Pranab Mukherjee</keyword>, the <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> Memorial Trust announced on Tuesday. "Few individuals have come to be as identified with the well being of our planet, of all living creatures, and their relationship with human beings, as Sir David," the Trust said in a statement. The 2019 prize, it added, is awarded to Attenborough for a lifetime of doing more to reveal the wonders of the natural world to us than perhaps any other individual. Suman Dubey, secretary of the trust, said Attenborough had tirelessly worked to "awaken humankind to the need, to preserve and protect the biodiversity on our planet, to live in a sustainable and harmonious way with all life, and to stop being what he has called: 'a plague on earth'."

Ever since the success of <keyword id="6625456" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mars-Orbiter-Mission">Mars Orbiter Mission</keyword> (<keyword id="6356585" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mom">MOM</keyword>) aka <keyword id="1506013" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="mangalyaan">Mangalyaan</keyword>, the <keyword id="116095" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-Space-Research-Organisation">Indian Space Research Organisation</keyword> (<keyword id="6358064" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="ISRO">ISRO</keyword>) has been winning fans’ hearts as well as awards. Recently, the <keyword id="517746" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indian-space-agency">Indian space agency</keyword> has bagged the <keyword id="1565295" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi-Prize">Indira Gandhi Prize</keyword> for Peace, Disarmament and Development for 2014. 

	The ISRO will be conferred the country’s most prestigious award for its contribution in strengthening international co-operation in peaceful use of outer space. The prize carries a cash reward of Rs 2.5 million.
 The announcement was made on Wednesday by the award jury, chaired by Vice President <keyword id="11698" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Mohammad-Hamid-Ansari">Mohammad Hamid Ansari</keyword>. "The <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development is awarded to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in recognition of its path-breaking achievement, culminating in the Mars orbiter mission, its significant contribution in strengthening international cooperation in peaceful use of outer space," a statement said. 

	The statement also highlights the fact that with the sheer dedication, hard work and out-of-the-box thinking, Indian space scientists have been able to turn the impossible possible. The statement cites, “It has shown how true self-reliance is, often working in adverse circumstances when it was denied adequate access to the latest research and development elsewhere.”
 

	Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development is accorded annually by the country to individuals or organisations in recognition of creative efforts towards promoting international peace, development and a new international economic order. And ISRO, which was established on August 15, 1969, has delivered a miracle, in form of the awe-inspiring success of its mission to Mars, despite its weaknesses of bureaucratic decision-making, funds crunch among others.

Husain</keyword>. Just when you open the search engine expecting to see the Doodle on Modi! 

	India is thankful to Google though <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Educate-In-India-Narendra-Modis-new-pet-project/articleshow/47456640.cms">Narendra Modi</a> might not be. Looking beyond the ego-battle, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> should be thankful that this Art Master was born and turned 100 today. Here’s why a man claiming to be the true Indian has much to thank the self-exiled true Indian for. 
	 
	 

	1. Using some of the painter’s favourite colours, notably pastels of red, yellow ochre, blue, mud brown, <keyword id="419433" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="google-doodle">Google Doodle</keyword> was an abstract geometric illustration with MF Husain’s self portrait holding a brush in the middle. MF Hussain was among those rare artists whose prized collections of life works also include an accurate self-portrait. 

	In Modi’s selfies and publicity, the nation is fed with a hazy picture of the man himself. Thanks to this great prodigy, Modi has the most accurate example of self portrait of a true Indian in the whole world, to refer to.
 

	If only Narendra Modi could paint his true self portrait, it would have been marred with red pastels of Gujarat riots and orange shades of the true Hindu that he is.

	 
	 
	 

	2. Husain was self-exiled at the age of 90 after facing more than a decade of lawsuits and abuses for his paintings. It all started with his abstract depictions of Hindu Goddesses and nudity. Though critics state the main reason of his troubled years as a painter was he depicting Hindu mythology in its bare state being a Muslim. This even led to his being treated as a religious bigot.
 

	In his process of ‘saffronisation’ of the nation, Modi can easily put the Gujarat riots case to the background. After all he is true to his religion, unlike Husain, the Indian.

	 
	 
	 

	3. In his ambitious vision <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Modi-to-call-on-Samsung-LG-to-Make-in-India/articleshow/47262269.cms">‘Make in India’</a>, Modi seems to be confused whether to manufacture in India or to make in India. Yes, there is a difference between the two which is debated on. But much to the credits of MF Husain, Modi has the best solution to look at. The artist created a unique language of expression through his paintings which were a combination of Indian visual idioms and contemporary western forms. His paintings were so successful at the international markets that it led to a seal of approval over making art a stock option. 
 

	Modi needs to acknowledge that we need to embrace western talent while working on Indian potential. Calling to foreign investors and manufacturers to manufacture in India or buying Rafale jets from France should be coupled with steps to make the most of the hidden potential in the hearts of Indian land.

	 
	 
	 

	4. <keyword id="127432" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Maqbool-Fida-Husain">Maqbool Fida Husain</keyword> was named the ‘Picasso of India’ not for nothing. His unique abstract paintings based on Indian mythology and Goddesses celebrating womanhood made his style stand out among the masses. His paintings were not a disgrace to Indian culture nor did it represent fanaticism, he showed it as it was. It exposed the dilemmas of the nation through pictorial eclecticism. One might remember his famous impression of <keyword id="6354478" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indira-Gandhi">Indira Gandhi</keyword> as Goddess Durga riding a lion during emergency. 

	If only Modi had this courage, instead of calling to people to post pictures of incredible India he would have asked them to post images of the things that is tearing apart its incredibility.
 

	But since Husain was exiled for this very reason, Modi is grateful to have a reason to do elsewise.

	 
	 
	 

	5. Husain’s paintings were banned like the books of <keyword id="25391" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Salman-Rushdie">Salman Rushdie</keyword>. So also movies, wearing skirts to school and now meat! Narendra Modi’excuse-it all went against the integrity of the nation and its culture. Hence, after years of being represented to its true form, the nation is happy to pull itself out of the artist’s canvas safely.

This grand old party of India has been progressively weakening across the country and now stands as only one of the many opposition parties, jockeying for power against resurgent regional players. In 2014, Congress did not even win enough seats to be chosen as the official opposition and was almost eclipsed by the AIADMK, a regional party from Tamil Nadu. SO MODI’S A SHOO-IN? Not exactly. Modi’s re-election prospects have arguably been dimmed by the triple threat of an economic slowdown, agrarian distress and concerns about rising intolerance and violence against minorities. His promise in 2014 to create 10 million new jobs a year for India’s burgeoning youth population has not been fulfilled. Moreover, a recent study by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy argued that 11 million jobs were lost last year alone. Photo: AP A leaked government survey allegedly showed the unemployment rate to be higher than at any time in the past 45 years. These economic doldrums have largely been blamed on the new Goods and Services Tax imposed by the government and 2016’s botched demonetisation exercise, which took 86.5 per cent of India’s currency out of circulation. The plight of India’s farmers has also become a major electoral issue. Stagnant grain prices, erratic weather and unresolved systemic problems have led to an alarming number of farmer suicides in a country where more than 50 per cent of the population is employed in agriculture. In 2017, the central government told the Supreme Court that 12,000 farmers had committed suicide every year since 2013. The BJP’s use of Hindu nationalist rhetoric, meanwhile, has always been controversial. Its leaders, like the monk-turned-Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, have been accused of using anti-Muslim rhetoric. BATTLEGROUND STATES The outcome of India’s elections often depends on political calculations and issues at the state level. India’s 29 states are highly diverse, both linguistically and ethnically. Five of these states – Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu – each send more than 40 MPs to the Lok Sabha, meaning that winning them is essential for either side. The biggest prize among them is Uttar Pradesh, which is one of India’s largest states and has 80 MPs. In 2014, the BJP was largely able to win nationally because it made huge gains in the massive northern state, taking 71 of the seats that were up for grabs. <h3 style="margin-bottom: 2.35714rem; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: 300; font-stretch: inherit; font-size: 1.71429rem; line-height: 2.42857rem; font-family: Roboto, sans-serif; vertical-align: baseline; display: inherit;"><a href="https://www.scmp.com/week-asia/politics/article/3010546/communism-india-dead-or-just-waiting-young-saviours" class="link-text">Communism in India: dead or just waiting for young saviours? </a></h3>This time, however, two major local players – the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) – are challenging the BJP. Both the SP and BSP – which have formed an alliance – are strong with the crucial Yadav and Dalit (formerly known as untouchable) castes in the state. While both the SP and BSP won more than 40 per cent of the popular vote in Uttar Pradesh in the last elections, the SP won only five seats because of India’s first-past-the-post electoral system and its lack of an alliance. This time, some pundits expect the SP-BSP alliance to win at least half of the 80 seats on offer, if not more. The BJP’s prospects are also being put to the test in the country’s economically dynamic south, where powerful regional parties are challenging its grip on power. In the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the regional YSR Congress Party and the Telangana Rashtriya Samithi are expected to sweep the polls. Both have openly said that they prefer a third option for government that does not involve either the BJP or Congress. In India’s southernmost state and its automotive hub, Tamil Nadu, the socialist, Tamil-nationalist Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam seems to be on the cusp of major gains because of anger at both the BJP central government and its local allies, the AIADMK. The BJP is also at risk of shedding seats in the central and western states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan, where Congress made gains during recent state elections. However, Modi’s party is expected to make nominal gains in eastern India, in states such as Orissa, West Bengal and the seven states that make up the country’s northeast. A major concern in those areas has been allegations of illegal migration from Bangladesh, and the BJP is running a racially charged campaign – playing up local fears of Muslim refugees – to capitalise on this. WHAT WILL ALL THIS MEAN? Assuming the BJP loses ground to regional parties, and the Congress retains its meagre base, India might find itself with a virtually hung parliament. <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=WWE">WWE</a> made it back to India after 14 years, and was organized at the Indira Gandhi Indoor stadium on the 15th and 16th January 2016. Luckily, I was in Delhi to witness my childhood dream - to watch a live match. 
 
As a nineties kid I had grown up watching wrestling, much to the dislike of my parents. This rebellious nature made me spend over Rs. 3200 to make it to the event on Saturday. 
 
I reached 2 hrs in advance, only to find out crazy restrictions of no bags, charger and ear phones – the three most essential part of my lifestyle. A few security checks later I was in. 
 
The show kicked off with the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=WWE">WWE</a> COO and part-time superstar Triple H with his classic “ARE YOU READY?” John Cena then apologized for his absence. The Ice was broken with the two legends and future Hall of Famers <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Big+Show">Big Show</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Kane">Kane</a> fighting it out. The match ended with Kane winning. The match, however, ended on a fun note with the referee trying to pin the Big Show. 
 
Match 2 started as face-off between American Alpha (from NXT) and a local super star Kishan Raftar during the first half. It later ended as a tag team action after the interference of the other American Alpha and Kishan’s partner, Jeet Rama. The Indian duo took the tag team victory with the whole crowd chanting “Bharath Mata ki Jai”. The crowd was vocal to say the least. 
 
Match 3 was a Divas action with the gorgeous Champion Charlotte defending and defeating Summer Rae. Match 4 was Ryback Vs Bray Wyatt with loud entries. This match had a guest time keeper from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Red+FM">Red FM</a>. Ryback clinched the win. Match 5 was Tyler Breeze Vs Darren Young from the Prime Time Players and the match was shorter than their entry. Tyler ranted on the mic ‘I don’t want to leave India as a loser’. Then came Titus, the other half of PTP and crushed him quickly enough. This made the already deafening crowd chant ‘Looser’ till he left the arena. 
 
After the intermission, we resumed with ‘3 Man Tag Team’ action with the New Day against The Usos and Dolph Ziggler. The crowd went crazy with the standard ‘New Day Rocks/Sucks’, ‘Uhoo sooo’ and ‘Let’s go Ziggler’ chants. The Usos and Ziggler picked up the win and celebrated with the crowd. 
 The main event came last. It was the <keyword id="3210027" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="WWE-World-Heavy-Weight-Championship">WWE World Heavy Weight Championship</keyword> Match with Rusev challenging the defending champion Roman Reigns. The match was a classic. It had all you can expect of a WWE main event. The referee got hit and a chair was used. After a rather long match, Roman Empire won and thanked the ‘Indian Universe’ (Indian fans) for their hospitality and support. 
 
After the show was over, an elderly gentleman approached me and asked,” Is the event over? What about the prize distribution ceremony?” That made my evening. 
 
All in all I had moments to cherish and a ticket to frame. Hopefully <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=WWE">WWE</a> returns sooner this time. I can’t wait another 14 years.
