In India, soap operas are a big deal.  There are many HD channels in the pipeline which will come from major networks. HBO is the latest entrant that has brought HD channels to India. For which lot of people are picking a sound bar or 5.1 channel surround sound system, as the small 10W RMS speakers in a flat screen TV do not do justice to the sound. 
 Ashim Mathur, Head of Marketing at Dolby India says Dolby is in talks with many Indian TV channels to bring HD content with Dolby support to Indian viewers. Some are already on board and some are in the final stages. If one of the deals comes through then we might just see a popular Indian <keyword id="1521" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cricket">cricket</keyword> tournament with Dolby support. Now that will be a treat for the cricket crazy nation such as ours. 
 To sum it up, the Indian television experience is up for an <keyword id="57342" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Upgrade">upgrade</keyword>. New TV shows are queuing up for the viewer’s attention with services such as HD and true surround by its side. Yes, to begin with DTH services might ask for a premium for a new High-def channel but after a while they will become part of the existing package.

Our association with OYO Hotels &amp; Homes for Roadies Real Heroes is a seamless fit with the promise of an adrenaline rush,” said Navin Shenoy, <keyword id="6354839" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="marketing">Marketing</keyword> Head –Youth, Music and English Entertainment, Viacom18. The unicorn startup believes that the association is “perfect” and will give them an opportunity to connect with the Indian youth. The startup has also planned a 360-degree multimedia campaign through various channels like Facebook, Instagram, e-mailers, web/application banners, push notifications and a series of TVCs. In its 16th season now, MTV Roadies has managed to gain a loyal following over the years. Its latest season – Roadies Real Heroes – has witnessed an increase in content engagement with its avg premiere time spent going up by 7 minute this season. The viewership on the weekly premiere episodes has grown by 20%, according to data from BARC India, compared to the last season. An Indian hospitality unicorn is now home to a 16-year old hit reality show, MTV Roadies

It’s interesting to see how Internet has emerged as the next big thing in India. Everyone is connected in our country to the Internet in one form or the other. Indian consumers’ love for the Internet has reached to the level that they are even willing to give up television for an Internet connection says a <keyword id="6370462" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Communications">Tata Communications</keyword> report. 
 
Recently, the telecommunications giant had done a survey to understand human behaviour when it comes to Internet, and they have come with such interesting insights. Here are the rest: 
· 82% of surveyed Indians admit to a ‘Fear of Missing Out’ (FOMO) when not connected to the Internet 
· Television seems to be the biggest loser in India with 43% ready to give it up for an Internet connection 
· 60% of Indians surveyed equate the Internet with the World Wide Web; showcasing a gap in the actual understanding of the Internet 
· Only half of all global respondents accurately identify where the Internet resides (in network connected data centers), while 82% do not know that the fastest mode of Internet delivery to their devices is through sub-sea cables 
· 60% of surveyed Indians identify network connected data centers as the correct source of the Internet, compared to 51% globally 
· The study also reveals that Asian respondents appear to be the most ‘Internet-dependent’ with less than half of surveyed Singaporeans and Indians capable of lasting up to 12 hours without internet access compared to 86% of German, 77% of French, 75% of US and 70% of UK respondents 
· 61% of Indian respondents believe that ‘everyone owns the Internet’, compared to 70% globally 
· This study further discloses that tablets and smartphones are rapidly replacing television as the preferred screen as nearly twice as many surveyed Indians (43%) are willing to give up television for the Internet, compared to Americans (17%) and Europeans (22%) respondents 
 
This report clearly shows how important Internet and all its wonders are for the Indian consumer. It has become a part of everyone’s life (at least in the metros) and thus, one cannot undermine the power this world wide tool. Companies are raking in moolah through this platform and common people are turning into billionaires with one good Internet idea. It will be great to see the next ‘big business idea’ in the country coming from the Internet, and see if we’ll have another Alibaba in the making. Let’s wait and watch! 
 About the survey: Tata Communications carried out the survey in developing and developed countries which include India, France, Germany, <keyword id="6355055" type="COUNTRY" weightage="80" keywordseo="USA">USA</keyword> and UK. If data is to be believed, India is expected to become the fifth largest consumer durables market on a global level by 2025. The consumer durables industry is projected to double at 14.8% CAGR to reach approximately USD 12.5 billion in FY15 from USD 6.3 billion in FY10. The improving living standards have made the need for electronics consumer durables a must in the Indian household. The changing environmental dynamics, urbanization and rising income levels are driving the growth of this segment that was once inhibited by the high price point. The Indian television market is shifting from the traditional cathode ray tube (<keyword id="431185" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CRT">CRT</keyword>) technology to LED, LCD and Plasma televisions. Some leading players have officially stopped the production of CRT televisions and are now concentrating on LED TV’s. 
 Avneet Singh <keyword id="18683" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="marwah">Marwah</keyword>, CEO/Director, Super Plastronics Pvt. Ltd (SPPL) spoke exclusively to <keyword id="824043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Business-Insider">Business Insider</keyword> and shared the inside stories. 
 
 
 
CRT MUKT Bharat 
“We also plan to initiate a social awareness program by the name of CRT MUKT Bharat. The CRT market is valued at almost 1/3rd of the LED market in India and the price gap between the two is considerable. With the rural population looking to upgrade themselves, we see a greater demand from rural areas as well. Experts say although sales of LCD and LED TV sets have grown 28 per cent annually in the last five years, flat panel TVs are yet to replace CRTs completely,” Marwah told Business Insider. 
 
Why Budget TVs? 
“We believe in paying for what you get, hence our televisions are priced according to the technology provided therein. Moreover, we chose to keep the price a budget one as we look to approach the masses and make our television available to all,” said Marwah. 
 
Future products 
Kodak plans to introduce 55 and 65 inch smart televisions in the coming year as well televisions with 4K technology.
