Following an embarrassing 3-1 defeat to England, Gocricket.com has the Indian players' report cards ready here.

 Dhawan was India's highest run-scorer in the two-Test series against New Zealand with 215 from four innings. However, the Delhi batsman couldn't create the same impact against England: he managed 122 runs at an average of 20 with a highest of 37. His technical flaws were widely exposed by <keyword id="80896" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="James-Anderson">James Anderson</keyword>, who gave Dhawan a tough time outside the offstump. While he looked good in patches during his innings of 29 at Trent Bridge, 31 at Lord's and 37 at The Ageas Bowl, he couldn't convert them into anything productive. Most of his dismissals came in the initial part of the innings which dented India's hopes of getting off to a decent start. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/murali-vijay/4001/4102">Murali Vijay</a>: 7/10 
 
Dhawan's opening partner got off to a start few imagined him to. His 146 at Trent Bridge was his fourth century in Tests and first in England. He followed it up with consecutive half-centuries - 52 in the second innings and 95 at Lord's - but lost his bearings thereafter. In the next seven innings, Vijay made just 109 runs and his average - which at one point in the series touched 80 - dropped to 40.20. He wasn't troubled much at Trent Bridge and Lord's but in Southampton, Vijay was unlucky to play on and get run out. It was at Old Trafford and The Oval that he looked out of sorts, throwing his bat at away-going deliveries and flummoxed by those that darted in. A decent series all in all, but it could have been better. Considering the way his team-mates performed, Vijay was one of the few positives for India. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/stuart-binny/4001/31034">Gautam Gambhir</a>: 0/10 
 
Returning after an 18-month absence, Gambhir showed so signs of improvement. He was the most unconvincing among the Indian batsmen. His replacing Dhawan for the last two Tests raised many eyebrows. He remained persistent with his tendency to poke at balls outside offstump and looked like a sitting duck in each innings. An edge to gully, a run-out and a caught behind while trying to leave the ball, such dismissals indicate that Gambhir may have played his last Test for India. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/cheteshwar-pujara/4001/4106">Cheteshwar Pujara</a>: 4/10 
 
Pujara has endured one of the toughest series of his young career. He started off well with scores of 38, 55, 28 and 43 but Southampton, much like it did for India, led to his downward spiral. He had problems with the incoming delivery and even his rock-solid forward defence couldn't come to his rescue. Pujara was out caught behind on six occasions and fell prey to Moeen Ali's offspin twice. With a total of just 222 runs in 10 innings, India's No 3 looked very shaky. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/virat-kohli/4001/25007">Virat Kohli</a>: 2/10 
 
The first real forgettable tour for India's most prolific batsman of the current era. The fact that Kohli couldn't score even a single half-century in 10 innings speaks volumes about his failure. With 134 runs at an average of 13.40, statistically he is India's worst batsman on tour. James Anderson had his number throughout the series, dismissing him four times. Kohli was twice out without troubling the scorers and the cobwebs in his head were clearly visible. Twice he was dismissed offering no shot - bowled by Liam Plunkett at Lord's and out lbw to Chris Jordan at The Oval. 
 
Apart from his batting, his goof-ups in the slip cordon added to Kohli's woes. A gloomy series like this can be excused, especially after the string of success he has experienced, but Kohli must realise that a major chunk of India's batting revolves around him. His getting back among the runs is crucial if India are to have any chances in Australia later this year. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ajinkya-rahane/4001/32045">Ajinkya Rahane</a>: 7/10 
 
Another example of a batsman who squandered away a decent beginning. Rahane, in only his second Test in England, registered his name on the Lord's Honours Board, courtesy a match-winning century on day one to revive India splendidly. Two fifties followed in Southampton but the promising run was brought to a halt in the last two Tests with Rahane managing 21, 4, 0 and 1. He showed a lot of promise with 299 runs at 33.22 and but the team needs more from him. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/stuart-binny/4001/31034">Stuart Binny</a>: 2/10 
 
Much was said about Binny after his selection in the 18-member squad, and as it would turn out, he was another hyped-up player. His only substantial knock came at Trent Bridge - a match-saving 78 in the second innings. He played a horrible shot in the first innings at Lord's and his credentials of an allrounder also took a big blow as he struggled with the ball and went wicketless in all three Tests he got. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ms-dhoni/4001/4057">MS Dhoni</a>: Batting 7.5/10, Captaincy 5/10 
 While <keyword id="6397" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Dhoni">Dhoni</keyword> the batsman raised his game in England, Dhoni the captain was another major setback in away matches. With four half-centuries in five matches, the India skipper had one of his best overseas series. His 82 at Trent Bridge was followed by 50 in Southampton where his biggest slip was falling early on day four when India needed him to stay in the middle. At Old Trafford and The Oval, his innings of 71 and 82 were one of only three Indian scores in double digits as the rest of the batsmen crumbled around him. 
 Dhoni's captaincy though looked lifeless yet again. His five-bowler strategy never really came to India's aid, and the decision to ignore Ishwar Pandey raised questions. After leading India to their fifth consecutive overseas series loss, this might mark the end of the road for Dhoni the <keyword id="195040" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Test-captain">Test captain</keyword>. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ravindra-jadeja/4001/32004">Ravindra Jadeja</a>: 5/10 
 
Despite the fact that he and Anderson kept on getting each other out, Jadeja's only meaningful contribution came in the second Test at Lord's, where his counter-attacking fifty set the game up in favour of India. With the ball, he was inconsistent. His wickets either were down to poor shots or the need for quick runs. Ian Bell and Jos Buttler took him apart in Southampton, where he was either too short or generous down the legside. Jadeja remains a strong contender at home but a doubtful starter for away matches. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/rohit-sharma/4001/4095">Rohit Sharma</a>: 1/10 
 
Our very own flat-track bully was drafted into the team at The Ageas Bowl in place of Binny and what did he do? Played a silly shot to Ali in the first innings and fell early on day five to Anderson in the second. Might be a cinch to play on Indian wickets, but his modes of dismissal are only worsening his case of playing abroad. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ravichandran-ashwin/4001/26007">Ravichandran Ashwin</a>: 6/10 
 
Ashwin managed to surprise in a role-reversal of sorts. While at Old Trafford he impressed one and all with his batting, The Oval saw Ashwin get back among the wickets. He forged a 66-run partnership with Dhoni for the seventh wicket in the fourth Test and played textbooks shots. Ashwin played second fiddle to Dhoni, who at the other end took calculated risks. Ashwin scored 46 in the second innings as India went down by an innings and 54 runs. At The Oval, Ashwin finally took his first wicket since 2012 and his 3/72 kept things tight. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/bhuvneshwar-kumar/4001/25023">Bhuvneshwar Kumar</a>: 8/10 
 
The conditions in England were supposed to ideal for Bhuvneshwar's style of bowling and he proved the theory right with figures of 5/82 and 6/82 in the first two Tests. But as soon as the English batsmen came into their own, the Uttar Pradesh bowler was a tired figure out in the middle. Once the batsmen negotiated with his early movement, scoring became easy. And even though in the third and fourth Test he took 3/101 and 3/75, Bhuvneshwar lacked support at the other end. 
 
To see him bat nicely in the series was a pleasant surprise. Scores of 63, 58 and 52 in the first three innings of the series were an added bonus for the team. With 19 wickets at 26.63 and 247 runs at 27.44, Bhuvneshwar had a series to remember. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ishant-sharma/4001/4094">Ishant Sharma</a>: 7/10 
 
Ishant was supposed to spearhead the Indian attack in England and many believed that the win at Lord's - where he took a career best 7/74 - had finally established Ishant as India's premier fast bowler. But an unlikely injury after the historic triumph was a case of bad luck for India. And when Ishant came back, it was fairly evident that he wasn't the same bowler who etched his name of on the Lord's Honours Board. At The Oval, he was predictably short and Stuart Broad took the attack to him despite batting with a broken nose. Ishant looked a bit ragged in his 4/96. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/varun-aaron/4001/30019">Varun Aaron: 5/10</a> 
 
The Jharkhand fast bowler made a return to Tests after December 2011 with plenty of calls for his inclusion for the fourth Test, in Ishant's absence. And even though he dismissed Ali with a peach of a delivery and broke Broad's nose, Aaron was mostly erratic, wasting energy on bowling far too many short balls. He bagged five wickets at an average of 50 - which included him conceding runs at over five an over at The Oval. But there is no doubt that he caught a few eyes with his pace. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/pankaj-singh/4001/4100">Pankaj Singh</a>: 4/10 
 Known as a workhorse in domestic circuit, Pankaj bowled with a lot of heart in Southampton after getting a debut in place of an injured Ishant. He was unlucky twice after Jadeja put down <keyword id="9234" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Alastair-Cook">Alastair Cook</keyword> in the first session followed by an umpiring error that reprieved Bell. Pankaj finally tasted success after toiling for 47 overs in Southampton and almost 23 overs in Manchester, where he bowled bad balls too frequently and went over four an over. 
 
<a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/mohammed-shami/4001/30030">Mohammed Shami</a>: 2/10 
 
Shami bowled with good pace in three Tests but was overall ordinary. His five wickets in the series came every 115 deliveries and at the cost of 73.20 runs. But with the next series taking place against the West Indies, he might return on the basis of what he did against them last year.

Indian Players' Report Cards After England Debacle

With its players set to enter bio-secure bubble for the <keyword id="6354312" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword> next week, a DC source told that the vaccination may start with the Indian players. "We have spoken to the BCCI which in turn is in talks with the <keyword id="83655" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Union-health-ministry">Union Health Ministry</keyword>, especially now that the Olympic-bound athletes are/will be getting the vaccine," a DC source said. "The foreign players may not get the nod... they have initiated conversations and for the Indian players to start off with," he added. The source said the DC players will enter the bio-secure bubble on Tuesday. "So, DC players whatever available will start <keyword id="58679" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Quarantine">quarantine</keyword> from Tuesday. As of now, it will be seven days of hard quarantine before the training starts in Mumbai. Delhi Capitals request BCCI for COVID-19 vaccination of their Indian players

Earlier, the members of teams failing to qualify for the play-offs were supposed to leave for New York on May 21, two days after the final league game of the IPL on May 19 but it has since been learnt that there has been some change in plans and now the first batch will leave on May 25. T20 World Cup: Majority of Indian players to leave for New York on May 25

Plesac was caught returning to the hotel and was sent home on August 8. However, Clevinger did not admit to being involved and later boarded the team plane with the rest of the team, potentially exposing players to COVID-19. Indians player reportedly threatened to leave the team if teammates who snuck out and violated COVID-19 rules were not banished

<keyword id="20593546" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI-Secretary" source="keywords">BCCI Secretary</keyword> <keyword id="19930802" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jay-Shah" source="keywords">Jay Shah</keyword> says the 'Impact Player' rule, which has divided opinions in the ongoing IPL, can be revisited if that's what the stakeholders want given that it was introduced as a "test case". The impact player rule has had a heavy bearing on the ongoing edition with teams crossing 250-run mark as many as eight times so far. Players, coaches as well as experts have pointed out the challenges which the impact player rule poses to the bowlers, saying that it allows teams to have extended batting line-ups. India captain <keyword id="19899523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Rohit-Sharma" source="keywords">Rohit Sharma</keyword> has stated that the rule hurts all-rounders as they are not getting enough bowling opportunities. "Impact player rule was brought in as a test case. On the bright side, it is providing additional playing opportunities to two <keyword id="20619603" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-players" source="keywords">Indian players</keyword>," he said in an interaction with select media at the BCCI office here on Thursday. "Isn't it important that two Indian players are getting a chance? The game is also becoming more competitive," he added. Shah said all stakeholders will sit down in a meeting likely to be held after the <keyword id="19921630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="T20-World-Cup" source="keywords">T20 World Cup</keyword> to decide on it. "But still, if the players feel that this is not alright we will speak on it. However, no one has said anything about it yet. After the IPL and the World Cup, we will have a meeting and decide," he said. "After the World Cup, we will consult with players, franchise and broadcasters and decide about the future course. It's not a permanent rule nor am I saying we will move past it," he added. Shah said India's T20 World Cup-bound players for the Caribbean and the USA, who are currently busy with the IPL, need no rest as competition is perfect preparation ahead of the mega event. "Why do you want to rest players? This is (as good as a) practice session, you cannot get any better opportunity (to prepare) than this," Shah said. "There is a cosmopolitan team in front of you, one team has a bowler from New Zealand, the other has a bowler from Australia and the next one has a bowler from Sri Lanka," he added. Shah said IPL is the best way to prepare for the Indian players as a Jasprit Bumrah gets a chance to gauge a marauding batter like Travis Head well ahead of the World Cup. "If we rest a bowler he won't get a chance to bowl at Travis Head. When (Jasprit) Bumrah will bowl to Travis Head, he will understand where to bowl to him and how. There is no better opportunity," he said. Focussing on women's cricket" Shah said the focus has also been on improving women's cricket by adding more fixtures to their calendar. "Women's cricket is going on full fledged and it is being managed no less than men's cricket. There is a World Cup in Bangladesh so we have maintained our bilateral relationship and played a series," Shah said. "We have put our focus 51 per cent on women's cricket and 49 per cent on men's because we are doing good in men's cricket so we are taking women's cricket on priority (basis). Their match fees has also increased so they have income as well," he added. However, Shah said there is no possibility of an increase in the number of teams for the Women's Premier League. "Let it be five teams for now. The media and sponsorship rights are set for five years and adding more teams will only create issues for them. The franchises have to sustain as well," he said. The second Test match will be played from June 20 to June 24 at the Queen's Park Oval, Trinidad. India are also scheduled to play five T20Is and the squad for the same will be announced later. After the Test series, there will be a two-day gap and the third day, India will square off with West Indies in a three-match ODI series. The ODI series will be important as it would help the Indian think tank assess where they stand in white-ball cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year. The first ODI will be played on July 27 at the Kensington Oval, Barbados while the second will be played at the same venue on July 29. The third and final game of the series will be played on August 1 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad. After the ODI series, the two teams will lock horns for a five-match T20I series. The first match of that series will be played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad, on August 3. The second T20I will be played at the Guyana National Stadium, Guyana on August 6 while the will be hosted at the same stadium on August 8. New Delhi, As India plans to introduce a new law to prohibit all 'private cryptocurrencies' in the country, the <keyword id="4010286" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="industry-stakeholders">industry stakeholders</keyword> have come out in unison, hoping that the government will listen to all the stakeholders before taking any decision. Among the bills lined up for consideration during the <keyword id="513556" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Budget-session-of-Parliament">Budget Session of Parliament</keyword> is the '<keyword id="6357017" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="cryptocurrency">Cryptocurrency</keyword> and Regulation of <keyword id="10676888" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="official-digital-currency-bill">Official Digital Currency Bill</keyword>, 2021' that will create a facilitative framework for creation of the official digital currency to be issued by the <keyword id="6354335" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india">Reserve Bank of India</keyword>. The Bill also seeks to prohibit all private cryptocurrencies in India. However, it allows for certain exceptions to promote the underlying technology of cryptocurrency and its uses. "Since the government is considering introducing the Bill during this session of Parliament, we are sure the government will definitely listen to all the stakeholders before taking any decision," said Sumit Gupta, co-founder and chief executive of CoinDCX, a cryptocurrency exchange in India. "We are talking to other stakeholders and will definitely initiate deeper dialogue with the government and showcase how we can actually create a healthy ecosystem in unison," he said in a statement. The Reserve <keyword id="6355303" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bank-of-india">Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) is already exploring the possibility as to whether there is a need for a digital version of fiat currency and in case there is, then how to operationalise it. The RBI made the remarks in a booklet titled "<keyword id="6370208" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Payment">Payment</keyword> and Settlement Systems in India" released last week. The apparent softening in RBI's stand on cryptocurrency came after the Supreme Court last year set aside a circular issued by the RBI that barred any entity from providing banking services to anyone dealing with virtual or cryptocurrencies. The RBI in its booklet on payment systems noted that central banks around the world are examining whether they could leverage on technology and issue fiat money in digital form. According to Kumar Gaurav, Founder and CEO, Cashaa, it is too early to comment on what exactly the term 'private cryptocurrency' refers to as per the new government draft. "Further, understanding that cryptocurrency is a global and decentralised system, there is no way any government can ban it. That would require that kind of technology and control, which technically does not rest with anyone," Gaurav said. "We are positive that the government will come up with regulations and policies that will put control on the scams and let the innovation in the industry, including the crypto like bitcoin, Cashaa, ethereum that are built on the public chain to grow and thrive," he added. Rahul Pagidipati, CEO at ZebPay said that the digital currency Bill to be introduced before the Lok Sabha is a welcome step forward. "Its success will depend on the details, particularly the definition of what the Bill calls 'private cryptocurrencies'. This is not a common term. Bitcoin is not privately owned by anyone. It is a public good, like the internet," Pagidipati said. Bitcoin and most crypto assets are more like gold and not an alternative to government-issued legal tender. "Crypto assets and digital government currency can coexist and together, they can bring tremendous benefits to the Indian economy," he noted. With the overall value of all cryptocurrencies surpassing the $1 trillion mark and Bitcoin hovering over $33,000, industry experts have said that crypto may become the most important asset class of the 21st century and India needs to catch up fast with the global trend. Indian cryptocurrency players in huddle as government mulls ban

New Delhi, Apr 14 () The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has lauded India's national federation and players for helping the global fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by making financial contributions and taking part in charity initiatives. In its latest newsletter, the AFC has praised the member associations, including India, which are doing a "lot of social work to help the distressed in this hour of global crisis." "The All India Football Federation (AIFF), the Guam Football Association (GFA), the J.League and the Wuhan Football Association have helped by giving donations, promoting public awareness messages and opening training centres to house medical teams," AFC stated in a press release.The AIFF contributed Rs 25 lakh to Prime Minister CARES Fund. "...players from India - Pritam Kotal, Pronoy Halder, Prabir Das and Arindam Bhattacharjee - have contributed a combined total of Rs 145,000 to various charities and donated food, and organised feeding the poor programmes in the country," the AFC said. Even the India players are taking a blow, amid heightened competition and demonetisation that has shrunk smartphone sales in the Indian market. 
 Chinese players like <keyword id="1731609" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Oppo">Oppo</keyword>, <keyword id="215177" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vivo">Vivo</keyword>, <keyword id="874458" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Xiaomi">Xiaomi</keyword>, <keyword id="13722" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lenovo">Lenovo</keyword> and <keyword id="1188106" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gionee">Gionee</keyword>, which have been very aggressive in marketing, have cornered more than half of the smartphone market by shipments in November, for the first time ever, even as Apple's shipments fell sharply and Samsung's was mostly flat compared to October 2016. 
 
"This is the first time that Chinese brands together account for 51% share in smartphone segment, resulting in Indian brands combined share to drop below 20%, from a peak of over 40% earlier this year. In just a couple of months, the tides have changed, which shows volatility of the Indian smartphone market,” Neil Shah, research director at Hong Kong-based Counterpoint Research, told ET. 
 
As of September-end, Indian players were at par with Chinese smartphone makers, each having 34% share of the market. They were followed by global players, led by Samsung and Apple, with 32% share. 
However, the picture totally changed in October during the festive sales, when Chinese players' share jumped to 47%, and then a further four percentage points in November. On the other hand, multinational players dominated largely by Apple and Samsung lost three percentage points month-on-month, to be at 32% in November. Indian players were at a dismal 18% in October and November. 
 
As per the analysts, Chinese players' share can well rise to 60% of the smartphone market by middle of 2017. 
 
Players like Samsung, which had a 22.6% share around September end, have seen flat shipments in November as consumer demand plunged post demonetisation. However, the impact was more on Apple as the company's shipments fell by half, from 4 lakh units shipped in October, as per market estimates. This is despite a sharp spike in the few days after the demonetisaton announcement on November 8. 
 
Demonetisation has also affected consumers' ability to buy phones in the sub-6,800 price category - the bread and butter of most Indian handset players. This is also the segment where most of the featurephone to smartphone transition was happening - a transition that has slowed, thanks to affordability and use case issues. 
 
"The Indian vendors' prime focus is the entry level segment, which is mainly driven by cash, while Chinese players operate in the higher price segments, where largely transactions are done through cashless media,” Jaipal Singh, senior analyst at IDC, told ET. 
 
For local brands to grow at the expense of Chinese brands, they will have to compete with an effective portfolio in the 8,000 to 30,000 price segment, analysts say, where they are mostly absent. 
 <keyword id="1622907" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Faisal-Kawoosa">Faisal Kawoosa</keyword>, principal analyst at CyberMedia Research (CMR), said Indian vendors lately felt that there is still potential in feature phone segment, which had an impact on their smartphone strategies. 
 
Indian players highlight the financial support Chinese players get from their government to enter Indian market - critical arsenal that Indian players don't have to fight off competition. 
 "The money they are spending on each handset, I don't think any Indian company or multinational company can do it,” Pradeep Jain, MD at <keyword id="84409" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karbonn-Mobiles">Karbonn Mobiles</keyword>, which has seen primary sales go down by 40%, told ET. 
 
"It's not good for India the way Chinese government is supporting these companies to enter the Indian market and sell their smartphones. In my view, it would pose a challenge to Indian companies,” he added.
