He estimated a growth of 10 per cent across the UP travel agency business. Further, Wadhwa said his Agra-based travel business was seeking collaborations globally to tie up travel arrangements and promote the state as well as India as a tourist destination. However, hotel room rents which have been skyrocketing for the last few months on account of large events like G20 and more — might have hit their peak. While the domestic demand has been holding up, the push that most people expected to see from the ongoing Cricket <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="world-cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword> 2023, has not come in. The event started on October 5 and will end on November 19. Sanjay Sethi, MD and CEO of Chalet Hotels said that unless a World Cup is staying with a property no block booking can be expected on account of the event. “There is no specific team or anything staying with our hotels. So, whatever we get is potential visitors who are coming for the World Cup events and matches. I don't expect that to be a very large number for any hotel in the city. To begin with, it's a one day or one-and-a-half-day sort of a stay. Number two, most of the visitors for the matches are locals of the city,” he said in a Q2 earnings conference call. The revenue per available room or RevPAR, which has been growing significantly in the last one year, did not see any uptick on account of the event where 48 matches will be played across 10 locations. “Unlike expected earlier, the ICC World Cup has turned out to be a non-event as it failed to have a meaningful impact on the RevPAR for the hotels where the matches are being played. Nonetheless, domestic leisure demand has been encouraging along with improving corporate travel, which led to impressive Q2FY24 earnings in a seasonally weak quarter,” said IDBI Capital. Have hotel room rents peaked? In the month of October, the average room rates (ARR) have come down as compared to the month before, as per a report by IDBI Capital. It analyzed pricing of 171 hotels with around 33,000 keys across key eight cities over the last 24 months. “Our analysis suggests that barring Jaipur and Hyderabad, major markets witnessed decline in average pricing in the month of October, 23 on MoM basis,” said IDBI Capital. On a quarter-on-quarter basis too, September quarter’s revenue per room or RevPAR of major players has come down, though their year on year growth is very strong, along with occupancies. However, it’s also to be mentioned that the second quarter is seasonally weak for travel and hospitality due to monsoons and festivals. The report highlights the travel trends and behaviours of couples embarking on this special journey. <h2>Beaches are a favourite for Indian couples</h2>Be it for domestic or international destinations, beaches have consistently been the top choice for newlyweds planning their first post-wedding trip, as per the report. This year’s data reflects the same trend. Internationally, <keyword id="11905404" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Thailand" source="Orion">Thailand</keyword> has emerged as the leading honeymoon destination for Indian couples in 2023-24, topping honeymoon package bookings on MakeMyTrip. With a notable 5.2% year-on-year (YoY) increase, Thailand has surpassed the Maldives, last year’s favourite, which saw a 16.2% YoY decline in bookings. Meanwhile, the other top international destinations—Indonesia, Mauritius, and Vietnam—also experienced growth in their booking shares this year. Domestically, the Andamans have overtaken Kerala as the most popular honeymoon destination, with a 6.9% year-on-year increase in honeymoon package bookings. Kashmir also rose in popularity, gaining 3.6% in bookings and moving into third place. Bookings for Goa remained steady compared to last year, while Himachal Pradesh experienced a 4% decline. Other regions, including the Northeast, Uttarakhand, and Maharashtra, also attracted Indian couples looking for memorable honeymoon experiences within the country. <h2>Couples going far</h2>Indian honeymooners are exploring far places increasingly drawn to new and diverse destinations. While international spots like Bhutan, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and Seychelles have seen significant year-on-year growth in honeymoon package bookings, this trend extends beyond just short-haul destinations. Because of Easy Visa, Japan has seen the highest YoY growth of 388% in honeymoon package booking. Other long-haul destinations that have seen maximum growth for honeymoon package bookings include Scandinavia, the United States, South Africa, and Australia and New Zealand. <h2>Honeymooners from Metro cities going all out to create Insta-worthy memories</h2>Metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore are driving the demand for premium honeymoon packages, contributing to more than two-thirds of all honeymoon package bookings. However, cities such as Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, and Pune are also seeing a notable shift from budget to premium travel. Couples are ready to spend more on luxury and pampering during their honeymoon. The average spending per couple has gone up by 13% compared to last year. In fact, 68% of newlyweds booked 4-star or 5-star hotels for their stay. One in every five honeymoon bookings was for a 5-star property in 2023-24, showing a 10% increase from the previous year. Newlyweds are not only spending more on comfort and luxury but are also increasingly choosing to visit multiple destinations during their honeymoon. Domestically, the number of couples visiting four or more cities increased from 35% in 2022-23 to 39% in 2023-24. Internationally, while more than half of honeymooners still prefer visiting just one city, the percentage of couples choosing to explore two or more cities grew from 32% to 47%. <h2>Personalised experiences demand all-time high</h2>Couples are seeking more personalised and romantic experiences than ever before. Honeymoon package bookings have grown by 25% compared to last year, showing that many couples want a fully planned, curated experience. Over 95% of honeymoon bookings this year included special activities. As a result, MMT saw a 56% increase in bookings for premium romantic activities like couples' photoshoots, romantic dinners, cruises (sunset, dinner, or catamaran), spa sessions, and floating breakfasts. <h2>Couples booking packages last minute</h2>The report also adds that Indian couples are booking their honeymoons closer to their travel dates. For domestic packages, 56% were booked within 30 days of departure, and 38% were booked the same way for international packages. This matches the overall trend of Indian travellers, who usually book closer to their travel dates. However, 31% of couples travelling internationally booked their honeymoon more than two months in advance, compared to just 18% for domestic trips. To gain more insights, MakeMyTrip also surveyed over 200 people who booked their honeymoon packages through the platform. The survey revealed that 70% of couples went on their honeymoon within 10 days of their wedding, 10% travelled between 10 days to a month later, and 20% waited more than a month to go.

Indian couples prefer Thailand and Andamans for honeymoon, says MakeMyTrip

Analysts say that the hotel industry has been in a recovery zone ever since the opening up of the economy with resumption of international travels owing to social events and corporate events. “Leisure was the first segment to pick up during recovery; this hasn’t stalled or waned even after the economy opened up. International travel resumed as there were social events, corporate events and MICE. There is no slowdown in demand currently,” said the report. More boost from G20 events In spite of a good showing ever since the lockdowns ended, there is scope for more growth hereon, expect analysts. “We believe, on the high base that the sector is at, incremental demand and supply shall be in sync, normalising rate movements. Key upside could come from sustained demand for leisure travel, normalising international travel and events such as the <keyword id="42982" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="g20-summit" source="Orion">G20 summit</keyword>,” said the Nuvama report. Based on the G20 calendar, there are several events scheduled in March and April 2023 to be held in cities like Amritsar, Gandhinagar, Mumbai, Chennai, Udaipur, Visakhapatnam, Darjeeling, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kumarakom, Goa, Varanasi, and Bhubaneswar. The G20 holds annual summits where leaders from member countries gather to discuss global economic issues. India holds the G20 presidency this year. From a high base In fact, the strong performance of hotel companies in the December quarter reflects a strong uptick in demand. Tata group hospitality firm Indian Hotels Company’s net profit in Q3 jumped four times to all-time high at ₹383 crore on the back of robust demand. “Buoyed by a strong demand in the third quarter, both leisure and business hotels in key domestic markets reported occupancy of over 70% and a rate growth of 27% as compared to pre-Covid levels,” said Indian Hotels Company in an exchange filing. Adding to it, even Lemon Tree in Q3 reported a significant jump in net profit, which rose to ₹48.6 crore as against a loss of ₹5.2 crore in the same period last year. Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore to lead regional growth for the industry Analysts say that the demand outlook for the sector in 2023 will remain robust on the back of events such as world cup hockey and cricket, apart from the ongoing G20. It will also bode well for more price increases this year. “For CY23, companies are budgeting average room rate (ARR) growth of 5–10% with a 2–5% increase in occupancies,” said a report by Nuvama Institutional Equities. Hotel industry bounces back after three years into the pandemic

New Delhi [India], August 4 (ANI): India's <keyword id="21307504" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="outbound-tourism" source="keywords">outbound tourism</keyword> market is expected to reach USD 18817.72 million (USD 18.81 billion) in 2024 and grow at a <keyword id="20256055" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAGR" source="keywords">CAGR</keyword> of 11.4 per cent in the decade between 2024 and 2034 to reach approximately USD 55388.41 million (USD 55.38 billion), highlighted a FICCI-Nangia knowledge paper. The paper titled '<keyword id="22661864" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navigating-Horizons" source="Orion">Navigating Horizons</keyword>: <keyword id="22661865" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Rise-and-Future-of-Indian-Outbound-Tourism" source="Orion">The Rise and Future of Indian Outbound Tourism</keyword>', released during the '3rd Outbound Tourism Summit' here in the FICCI office earlier this week, asserted that few emerging markets and opportunities for outbound <keyword id="19916662" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel" source="keywords">travel</keyword> include various Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, African and Eastern European countries. India's online travel market, which consists of sales of travel services through online channels, is expected to grow at a CAGR of 10.5 per cent between 2024-29, from USD 17.24 billion to USD 28.40 billion. International travel has thus been eased by the steady growth in affordable technology, states the paper. It further states that the government administration and the tourism industry stakeholders in India may undertake various strategic interventions to promote the outbound tourism market. These include bilateral engagement; improved connectivity; support to travel industry stakeholders; marketing of international destinations; curated packages; and hospitality partnerships, among others. Speaking at the launch of the report, Mary M Mutuku, Deputy High Commissioner of Kenya to India said that Kenya is not only committed to deepen the relations between India and Kenya but also promoting Kenya as a preferred tourist destination. "Currently, the India market is among the top 5 Kenya's key sources of tourists, and this has the potential to grow even further," she said in her brief address. To attract more <keyword id="110519" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-tourists" source="Orion">Indian tourists</keyword> to Kenya, Mutuku stated that Kenya has put in place the necessary infrastructure to ease travel in the country. "With an increase in the number of flights between the two countries along with the opening of the Nairobi Expressway, tourists will have more convenience traveling in Kenya. A new cruise terminal at Mombasa port is a major boost to cruise tourism. The berth targets to enhance passenger handling capacity as well as allow for an increased volume of cruise ships arrival at the port," she added. Seitenov Darkhan, Deputy Ambassador, Embassy of Kazakhstan to India had said, "We have huge potential for mutual and beneficial cooperation in the tourism sector. There has been significant growth in the number of tourists coming to Kazakhstan from India which is also due to offering 14 days visa-free regime for Indian tourists along with an increase in a number of direct flights." While highlighting the investment potential for Indian industry, Darkhan further said that in order to meet the needs of Indian tourists in Kazakhstan, it would be advisable to consider building a network of Indian hotels and restaurants in the major cities in Kazakhstan. "We invite major Indian investors to participate in implementing these initiatives in our country," he added. Geshan Dissanayake, Minister Commercial, High Commission of Sri Lanka in India said, "The strong shared heritage between India and Lanka forms the bedrock of our bilateral relationship. India alone stands out as a key source market for Sri Lanka. The integration of the Indian UPI payment system with 'LankaPay' has made simplified payment options for Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka," he added. Dissanayake further stated that to fully realize the potential of outbound tourism there is a need to focus on marketing and promotion of various offerings by Sri Lanka; infrastructure development; promoting sustainable tourism and further streamlining the visa process. Working together, we can unlock the potential of outbound tourism between India and Sri Lanka," he added. TIME called Reliance 'India's Juggernaut'. This is the second time that Reliance has found its way into the TIME list. Jio Platforms, the firm that holds digital properties of the conglomerate, was included in the inaugural TIME 100 Most Influential Companies List of 2021. Serum Institute is the other Indian company on the list. TIME listed Reliance in the 'Titans' category (one of the five categories under which the companies were divided, other being Leaders, Disrupters, Innovators, and Pioneers). Tata was listed in 'Titan's' category while Serum under 'Pioneers'. "Reliance Industries was founded as a textile and polyester company 58 years ago by Dhirubhai Ambani. Today the sprawling conglomerate -- which has aligned its growth with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a 'self-reliant' India -- is the country's most valuable company, with a market capitalisation of more than USD 200 billion," TIME said. Now led by Dhirubhai's son Mukesh, the Mumbai-based company has ventures in energy, retail, and telecommunications, among others, and has made its chairman Asia's richest man, it said. The publication went on to stated that in February, Reliance came out on top in a fiercely competitive race to dominate India's burgeoning streaming market by striking a USD 8.5 billion merger deal with Disney's India business. After the Zoom weddings during the pandemic, this season 3.2 million weddings are expected to be held over December and January, as per CAIT. Like the festival season, there is no scrimping of the budgets either but something has changed after the pandemic. Call it the side effect of inflation or just a change in mindset, but weddings in India are more intimate affairs now, with thinner guest lists. “The pandemic has made the trend of mid-scale weddings with limited guests a big success. From 400-500 guests on an average pre-Covid, it has now come down to 200-250. But the spending has not reduced as couples are focusing on enhancing the guest experience,” Zubair further explained. During the wedding season/muhurat dates, both venues and vendors like photographers, caterers, etc. charge higher for the same products/services. Big fat Indian weddings back but with slimmer guest lists

However, the prolonged hardships gave rise to some necessary cost rationalisation by improving digital efficiencies and that is helping the sector, which is on an upcycle, grow faster. For the last four quarters, the sector has been growing, thanks to recovery in leisure and business travel as well as weddings. And, there are more triggers ahead. The country will see two big events in the next few months — Cricket World Cup as well as G20 summit conferences which will spur the demand for upscale to mid hotel rooms across the country. Moreso, the demand supply dynamics is skewed towards the branded hotel chains. Even as most of them are expanding, supply is expected to grow at 5-6% for FY23-FY27, but demand is expected to grow at 8-10%. Foot on the pedal Even as the post-pandemic boom effects have been waning, the revenge travel trend is showing no signs of weakening. “The consumption picture has been hazy but the services sector is holding up with good pent up demand in travel and hospitality,” said Madan Sabnavi, chief economist at Bank of Baroda in a webinar on ‘State of the Economy’. Business travel has grown but is not yet at pre-pandemic levels of FY19, and is also growing across tier-2 and tier-3 cities — giving the sector a longer runway for growth. The sector which has been enjoying the boom effects for the last four quarters — has seen the stocks performing well with most giving returns over 40%. Yet, there is still a good run up ahead, according to analysts, as they foresee further growth in room rents, and most of them are adding keys to their portfolio. Industry level occupancies recovered to 60% in 2022 are estimated to reach 66% in 2023, as per HVS Anarock. They are further expected to grow to 68% in 2024 and 70% in 2025. “Industry average room rent (ARR) which stood at ₹6,100 in 2022 is estimated to reach ₹7,106 in 2023, ₹7,639 in 2024 and ₹7,983 in 2025,” said a report by ICICI Securities. A report by J M Financial said that they build in higher occupancy levels and 8-10% average room rent growth. It estimates that revenue to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) to be anywhere between 12.5-21% revenue over FY23-26. The Covid-19 pandemic has forced hotel operators to rethink their cost structures. They have downsized, and now lean towards multi-tasking and hiring of temporary/contractual labour. Thanks to strict social distancing norms, hotels have been re-imagined with fewer touch points, like digital keys, digital payments and menus on QR codes. They have now turned mainstream and are also operationally efficient. “During the pandemic, hotels have also converted some of their fixed expenses to variable or partially variable expenses. Contracts were aligned towards potential earnings and more investments were made in new-age forecasting tools to limit surplus of food and overage of staffing,” J M Financial says. Even as most of the branded hotels are going for adding more keys to their portfolio, this time around they’re choosing asset-light models. Lemon Tree management said recently that it targets to add 20,000 rooms by 2028, and the asset- light model will make up for 70% of these additions. Indian Hotels has a pipeline of around 9,900 rooms, and 74% of it is asset light. “Indian Hotels and Lemon Tree have been careful about portfolio expansion, and have built a pipeline heavily inclined towards asset light additions. Consequently, with a much leaner balance sheet, they still have adequate headroom to grow through outright acquisitions to tap into the continued strength in demand,” says J M Financial.
