As Sehwag applied for the team's chief coach's post, this puts him in race with Australia’s <keyword id="93766" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tom-Moody">Tom Moody</keyword> and Englishman Richard Pybus. Besides, former fast bowler Dodda Ganesh and former India A coach <keyword id="124587" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lalchand-Rajput">Lalchand Rajput</keyword> have also applied for the post. However, the entry of Sehwag -- one of India's greatest ever game changer -- makes the battle for the position very interesting. He doesn't have any prior coaching experience apart from mentoring IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab and recently, it was the <keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword> top brass that convinced him to apply for the post.

Virender Sehwag wants to coach Indian cricket team

Till the BCCI finds a permanent coach, former captain <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> has been retained as Director of the Indian cricket team for Bangladesh tour starting June 10. 
 
He is a stop-gap arrangement for the tour till BCCI finds a successor to Duncan Fletcher, whose tenure ended earlier this year after the World Cup. 
 
Earlier this year, Shastri served as Team Director during the tour of Australia and the subsequent World Cup. 
 
"The BCCI wishes to inform that Mr. Ravi Shastri, former India Captain, has been appointed as Director of the Indian cricket team for the tour of Bangladesh, starting on 10 June 2015," BCCI Secretary Anurag Thakur said in a statement. 
 
The BCCI will appoint a new coach only after consulting the newly-formed advisory committee of the body, which comprises cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. 
 
India will play one Test and three One-Day Internationals in Bangladesh from June 10. 
 
Meanwhile, Shastri has represented India in 80 Tests and 150 ODIs for India and was part of the side, which lifted the 1983 World Cup. 
 
He had travelled with the Indian team to Bangladesh in 2007 also as cricket manager after Greg Chappell resigned from the coach's post following the World Cup debacle that year. 
 
Tendulkar, Ganguly and Laxman were inducted into the BCCI to guide the Board.

Mumbai: After being hammered in the Tests, India have stunned everyone by bouncing back in style in the ODIs against England, taking a 2-0 lead. 
 A change in format and the arrival of inform players has helped India's cause, but what cannot be ignored is the contribution of Indian <keyword id="1521" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Cricket">cricket</keyword>'s 'crisis man,' <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> as Team Director. The benefits of his presence have already been acknowledged by Raina after the left-hander hit a splendid hundred to set up India's win in the second ODI. 
 
The change in India's fortunes, post Shastri's induction, isn't a surprise to Mumbai's 'Class of '94'. That season, Shastri led a severely depleted Mumbai team, full of greenhorns, to the Ranji title, something that they had failed to achieve for the last decade, despite boasting of numerous stars in their line-up. Those who played under him swear by the 'Shastri effect.' 
 "He is a great motivator - the best <keyword id="1411" type="POSITION" weightage="100" keywordseo="captain">captain</keyword> I ever played under. Kulkarni illustrated his point. "I remember he told Amol Muzumdar, who was yet to make his First Class debut, 'Just play this game as if you are playing a U-19 match.' He ended up scoring a record 260 in his first game," he recalled. 
 
One of the youngsters Shastri had a profound effect on that season was former India and Mumbai leggie Sairaj Bahutule. "Believe me, he is the best thing to happen to the Indian team right now - he certainly was the best thing to happen to me at that point in time. He changed the way I played my cricket. He had that special ability to bring out the best in you. He left a huge imprint on me. He was a taskmaster," Bahutule gushed. 
 
Shedding light on Shastri's tough-as-nails approach, Bahutule revealed, "In one game, I told him I won't be able to bowl because my index finger was bleeding. He told me: 'I don't care, you have to bowl.' I eventually ended up picking up four wickets," the former leggie said. 
 
"His attitude was typically khadoos - keep at it. At the same time, he was a friend, in whom you could confide anything. He radiated positivity. There was an aura around him. He made us believe we could beat any team," said Bahutule. 
 
Ex-India and Mumbai seamer Paras Mhambrey, who was in his debut season in 1994, recalled another episode which reflects how Shastri backs his men. "At Faridabad, just before the pre-quarters against Haryana, I was checking the bounce on the match wicket, and received an earful from curator (Sarkar Talwar)." 
 
Shastri saw this from the dressing room, and ran to Talwar and told him: 'You have a problem, talk to me, not him. I'm the captain.' There was no need for Shastri to do that for me, but just the fact that he did, made a huge difference to me." Mhambrey remembered.

Recent instances where Indian Cricketers shook a leg in public

With the Test Series coming to an end, the <keyword id="8675" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-cricket-team">Indian cricket team</keyword> would now be seen battling against Australia and England in a tri-nation series. Soon after that, the whole world would encounter the force with which the team would go on to defend their title of World Champions in the 2015 Cricket World Cup. 
 
However, there would be a change this year: the color, make and design of the jerseys they would wear this time around. 
 
One-Day format Captain MS Dhoni, with rest of the Team India, unveiled the team’s new ODI kit early morning today in the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Team India’s kit has been designed by Nike while Star Network is the official sponsor. 
 
“Is an improvement over the previous one,” Dhoni was quoted saying. Reportedly, the Nike designers have spent several hours taking inputs from the Indian cricket team regarding their requirements and preferences for the jersey. 
 
What makes this kit even special is that it has been made out of 100% recycled polyester, which is not only environment-friendly but also has enhanced stretch and moisture-releasing qualities. 
 
“There has been constant interaction between Nike and the players,” said Dhoni. “We all gave them our inputs and a lot of them have been passed. The product was already great and this is just an improvement on the previous one. It looks good.” 
 
Dhoni contributed his two cents in designing the front part of the jersey, which has strands signifying 24 spokes in the Ashok Chakra of the national flag, giving the person who wears it a patriotic feel. 
 The young gun machine <keyword id="6354486" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Virat-Kohli">Virat Kohli</keyword> said that he was very particular about the fit of the jersey, which according to him is important for a sportsperson. 
 All-rounder <keyword id="6359048" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="R-Ashwin">R Ashwin</keyword> said that he likes the environment-friendly vision with which the kit has been created. “We feel socially responsible as a unit wearing this kit and doing our bit for the environment. So, in that regards, I am really proud of what Nike has given us.” The reason why Ashwin stresses over the environment-friendly aspect is that a pair of shirt and trousers is made out of 33 plastic bottles, which in itself is a big step in direction of social responsibilities they follow as a team. 
 
The color of the kit has also been modified to a new shade of blue, which would give an energetic approach to the upcoming series and the World Cup matches that follow.

The successful completion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the selling of the media rights for it is the news that <keyword id="1523" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-cricket" source="Orion">Indian cricket</keyword> is celebrating. The most important aspect of any venture is the financials, and the <keyword id="6354756" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bcci" source="Orion">BCCI</keyword>, one feels, is comfortable with it. The Indian domestic season ended with the completion of the Ranji Trophy. Madhya Pradesh winning it with not a single International player in its midst is a remarkable story. One has to give kudos to each of the playing members of the side, especially, in the way they showcased teamwork and togetherness. One has to admire the coaching skills of Chandrakant Pandit, who has with this win etched himself as the best-ever cricket performance coach in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword>. Indian cricket may look like it is sailing through calm waters as a cricket establishment. However, one gets the feeling that cricket on the field is in a maze. There seems to be plenty of uncertainty as regards to the players and now with the captain as well. India will be playing an important Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham today. With a 2-1 lead in the series, India may be in the driver's seat with nothing major to lose. However, a victory against England for all Indians is always a special occasion. Completing a pending series eight and a half months since the last Test match of that series is in itself an amusing story. India and England in the meantime have both changed their captains and their coaches. The momentum that India had gained and established mentally as a superior unit may no longer hold. A one-Test encounter in a foreign land is never a right approach and India have suffered from this in the past. The inaugural World Test Championship, when India played New Zealand, the latter having played a few matches before, was a prime example of a team not acclimatised for the big occasion. The Indian Test team seems to be in the same predicament at present. They have landed after playing two months of T20 cricket into playing the true traditional and conventional form of the game. Test cricket requires one to be patient and draws one into a mental state that is far different from the glamorous hit-or-miss variety of the T20. India are also in a flap as regards captaincy. Jasprit Bumrah has been named captain because of the unavailability of Rohit Sharma. The ideal solution would have been to request Virat Kohli to lead. Bumrah is the leading force for India as a bowler. However, captaincy could become a burdensome issue for him. Furthermore, he has not even captained a First-class side before and, therefore, putting this additional responsibility on his shoulder would not be fair to him. God and lady luck need to shine on India, as without KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma and the lack of confidence in their batters in Cheteshwar Pujara , Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer, the blessings of the almighty is all what Indian fans must be praying for. The England side looks confident and cocky having won the series 3-0 against New Zealand. Their new aggressive approach has been a revelation in the way in which they bat. One admires it when it all comes out right but cricket history has shown that it could come to bite you as well. India has the bowling arsenal to demolish England's belief. Rahul Dravid has a major issue and that is to select the ideal and best eleven for the Test match. Apart from Virat Kohli, not a single spot in the batting order is in order. India possesses both pace and good spin-bowling options. The English weather tempts one to go in with an extra pacer but for India to leave out R. Ashwin would be a folly. However, the most concerning part would be Bumrah as a captain and as to how he marshals the side. India, on the other hand have their eyes focused on the T20 World Cup at the end of this year. Australia is the venue and identifying the players for it would be a challenge. The reason being that the IPL throws out players who have performed well in it and they seem to be favoured in the selection of the national side as well. This has led to a huge pool of players, all showcasing similar skills amongst them. Along with the regular established players, identifying the best from the rest is going to be a difficult task. One feels India is over-extending itself by playing two series at one time. An Indian cap has become an everyday affair. A good performance in the IPL and one is a part of one of the Indian side, if not in the senior side, then at least in one of the limited-overs one. None of the other countries send two teams to play two different series. One wonders whether the Indian players will be fresh enough to play the T20 World Cup, given the schedule of matches that they will be playing before it. Giving a cricketer a well-deserved break is not the answer. A team needs to have continuity and camaraderie to understand one another. This comes from playing as many matches together and spending quality time with one another, away from the ground. The Indian team needs to confine itself to a camp where strategies and plans are discussed and decided. This is where India has failed earlier and has, therefore, not won an ICC Trophy since 2014. Here’s why everyone is talking about Indian cricketer MS Dhoni’s gloves

You can help me make a decision since I am caught between two emotions. Should I laugh or cry? 
 Before you ask me why, let me tell you that a couple of questions have been dominating the mind from the time the <keyword id="81008" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket-in-India">Board of Control for Cricket in India</keyword> (<keyword id="6354756" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="BCCI">BCCI</keyword>) made changes to the <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/teams/india/4001/home">Indian team's </a>coaching staff and sparked the laugh-or-cry debate in my mind. 
 
In the first place, <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/news/England-vs-India-2014-Ravi-Shastri-to-be-in-charge-of-Indian-team-for-England-ODIs/articleshow/40390445.cms">installing </a>former India allrounder <keyword id="19692" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ravi-Shastri">Ravi Shastri</keyword> as Director of the Indian team and sidelining the bowling and fielding coaches, Joe Dawes and Trevor Penny respectively, ahead of the limited-over series against England is an attempt to pull wool over our eyes rather than balm to hearts and souls wounded by dismal showing in three successive Tests. 
 
It is no secret that the Indian limited-overs team is more competitive than the Test team has been for a while now, especially in overseas series. Surely, no one needs reminding that <a href="http://www.gocricket.com/player/ms-dhoni/4001/4057">Mahendra Singh Dhoni's</a> team has won six and lost 14 of 28 overseas Tests. Even more surely, it is the Test side that is in greater need of guidance than the squad that plays white-ball cricket. 
 Since batsmen M Vijay, <keyword id="13839" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gautam-Gambhir">Gautam Gambhir</keyword> and <keyword id="75027" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Cheteshwar-Pujara">Cheteshwar Pujara</keyword>, pace bowlers <keyword id="11685" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ishant-Sharma">Ishant Sharma</keyword>, Pankaj Singh and <keyword id="6370607" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Varun-Aaron">Varun Aaron</keyword> as well as reserve wicketkeepers Wriddhiman Saha and Naman Ojha have returned home ahead of the ODIs, and a fresh crew has flown in, it will be unfair to compare the work of the coaches who have been given a break with that of the new staff.

Assistant coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar both earned their place in the spotlight thanks to the run of <keyword id="13883" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kings-XI-Punjab">Kings XI Punjab</keyword> in IPL 2014 while B Arun, ostensibly the bowling coach now, has been with the NCA for many years now. Of course, Sridhar has also been in the NCA and, like Arun, worked with junior India teams. 
 
If critics of the IPL have blamed the inadequate technique of the Indian batsmen against the swinging and seaming cricket ball on IPL, its proponents have cited improved fielding - not slip catching, for sure - standards as a result of the IPL. It does look like everyone, critic and defendant alike, have come to regard the IPL as the be all and end all of Indian cricket. 
 
Shastri's interview with ESPNcricinfo's Nagraj Gollapudi – "I had no reservations about the job. I insisted on the coaching staff I wanted. I went (for domestic Indian coaches) because I felt they can contribute," he said – is a confirmation that the BCCI and its contracted commentators do not pay attention to first-class cricket in the country. 
 Karnataka coach J <keyword id="26593" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Arun-Kumar">Arun Kumar</keyword> would surely have done something right for the team to win not only the Ranji Trophy after 15 years but also the Irani Cup and Vijay Hazare Trophy titles in 2013-14, a rare hat-trick of titles in a season. Does his missing out on being with an IPL team have anything to do with his not landing an assignment with any Indian team? 
 
The IPL can run on its own steam and does not need any molly-coddling from the BCCI, except to ensure that it is run in a transparent manner and stays clean. These attempts to prop up the IPL as only a harbinger of good cricket because it lets domestic players rub shoulders with international stars are little more than dramatic. 
 
Perhaps the real solution lies in ensuring that the Test players do not show up in domestic cricket only sporadically. As a Ranji Trophy star pointed out, those who are making so much noise about the quality of pitches in domestic cricket have not been looking at the tracks in Ranji Trophy where seam and swing bowlers pose severe challenges to batsmen. Is there no cricket beyond the IPL? Are there no coaches beyond NCA?

It will replace Chinese phone maker Oppo. As Team India heads for its West Indies tour beginning on August 3, it will be the last time Oppo will feature on the jersey, according to IANS. Following that, the South Africa tour in September will feature Byju’s. Gone are the days when it was only MNCs had the ability to sponsor the ‘always under spotlight’ Indian cricket matches. From Paytm to Bira91 and now Byju’s, from the Indian startup ecosystem managed to garner global attention with advertisements, endorsements and sponsorship. In March 2017, Oppo had won the sponsorship rights for five years by paying ₹10.79 billion.
