It is an effective moisturizer that doesn't contain any irritants or fragrances, which makes it safe for sensitive skin. A 2016 study published in the<a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4885180/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> Indian Journal of Dermatology</a> proved that petroleum jelly reduces the amount of moisture that evaporates from the skin by a whopping 98%.Dao says the best time to apply petroleum jelly is right after bathing, since it is very effective at locking in moisture, as it works by forming a barrier for the skin to prevent the loss of water through evaporation.<h2>2. Oatmeal bath</h2>According to <a href="https://www.schweigerderm.com/providers/michele-farber-md/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michele Farber, MD</a>, a dermatologist at Schweiger Dermatology Group in New York City, oatmeal baths are a great way to soothe irritated skin.A 2015 study published in the <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25607907/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Journal of Drugs in Dermatology</a> showed that colloidal oatmeal (which is essentially oats that have been finely ground down) is effective at reducing skin dryness, roughness, and itchiness. This is because oatmeal helps repair the skin barrier, is anti inflammatory, and has antioxidant properties, according to Farber.<h3>How to use an oatmeal bath to soothe dry skin:</h3><ol><li>Purchase an oatmeal bath product. Farber says Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal Soothing Bath Treatment is a favorite of her patients. Alternatively, you can DIY it. Coconut oil </h2>Coconut oil, particularly virgin coconut oil (meaning expelled mechanically from the coconut, no chemicals added) is effective at locking in moisture. It can also create a protective barrier to prevent moisture from evaporating from the skin, according to a <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24320105/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2014 study</a>.Furthermore, coconut oil also has antibacterial properties. This is great to ward off infections since extra dry skin may get cracks or cuts that may be prone to infection. This is especially helpful for people whose dry skin can lead to a painful skin condition called eczema, according to a<a href="https://www.researchgate.net/publication/23769156_Novel_Antibacterial_and_Emollient_Effects_of_Coconut_and_Virgin_Olive_Oils_in_Adult_Atopic_Dermatitis" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> 2008 study.</a> You can apply coconut oil after you bathe to lock in moisture. Additionally, Dao says to be mindful if you have extra sensitive skin, since you might be allergic to coconut's natural fragrance. Justpay close attention to the label of the product you buy and make sure they aren't adding any additional fragrances. <h2>4. Fragrance-free lotions </h2>If petroleum jelly or coconut oil are too greasy for your liking, spring for an unscented lotion Farber says to choose a cream or ointment that is a thicker consistency since they will typically keep your moisturized more effectively for longer.Dao says he likes to recommend creams that have <a href="https://www.cerave.com/about-cerave/what-are-ceramides" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ceramides </a>in them, which are lipids that help the skin lock in moisture. In general, look for fragrance-free, unscented products. Also, listen to your body. Just because something is supposed to be fragrance-free and suitable for sensitive skin, it still might irritate your dry skin. In this case, ask your dermatologist what might be a better fit for you. <h2>5. Change your bathing habits</h2>If you're taking long, hot showers everyday, you are stripping your skin's natural moisture away. According to Farber, hot showers and baths are a major dry skin culprit. She advises sticking to shorter, lukewarm showers, around 98.6º fahrenheit. Water over 105º can be irritating and drying.She also says you should apply your moisturizer of choice as soon as you get out of the shower. Or, as mentioned earlier, you can even try applying coconut oil before you step into the shower. Additionally, avoid scented soaps while you bathe. Farber says soaps with sulfates or harsh surfactants will disrupt the skin barrier and cause moisture loss, so be sure to check the ingredients list before buying and using a body soap. <h2>The bottom line</h2>If you've tried these home remedies and still are experiencing dry, itchy, painful skin, Dao urges you to see a dermatologist to make sure that there isn't something more serious going on. New Delhi, Feb 10 () Ride-hailing major Ola expects London to play an important role in its global road map, and believes that entry into this market is the beginning of its "journey to be the preeminent global force". The company, which has launched its services in London, has already onboarded over 25,000 drivers on its platform. "London is truly the beginning of our journey to be the preeminent global force and player in our industry. Very few Indian brands have gone global with this scale and ambition and our journey and success will become a benchmark," Ola co-founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal said in an e-mail to employees. He added that the next three months are "crucial to scale operations, be nimble on our feet to counter competition moves and above all, deliver a differentiated customer experience to 'wow' the consumers". He said the company will maintain its differentiated focus on drivers, safety and a collaborative approach with local authorities and regulators. Aggarwal said London is one of the most important global cities in general, and is one of the biggest markets in size for the industry. Ola had received an operating licence from Transport for London (TfL) earlier last year. "So, building the right business for all stakeholders...has been a key focus for us... We have been able to focus on consumer and driver experience significant and improving the quality and proposition of safety and truly moving the industry forward," he said. <ul><li>Snapdeal added 6 million new buyers on its platform during the pandemic.</li><li>Its recent 5-day sale kicked-off on October 16 and ended on October 20. </li><li>Rajnish Wahi, Senior Vice President, Snapdeal tells us some of the trends the platform saw during its pre-Diwali sale, its plan to go deeper into Bharat and USPs that helped it stand out in the clutter of online sales. </li></ul>Indian consumers have always been value-conscious, who take pride in their haggling skills and with the pandemic, buyers are expecting greater value for their spends. Therefore, e-commerce player Snapdeal’s sale, which took place between October 16 to 20, focused on offering ‘Kum Mein Dum Diwali,’ i.e., value deals for lesser money. According to Snapdeal, less than 5% percent of retail is online and during this on-going <keyword id="36208" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="festive-season">festive season</keyword>, the platform’s aim is to bring more users online and give them strong reasons to switch. Snapdeal observed that consumers weren’t willing to buy premium brands this year and wanted to access the online platforms in their regional language. So, as other e-commerce platforms offered premium brands at a discounted price, Snapdeal wanted to make online shopping more inclusive for buyers across India. It focused more on non-metro cities, which is a market with potential 400 million users and shipped orders to rural places like Palasner in Maharashtra, Abdasa in Gujarat, Kalsi in Uttarakhand, Chitkul in Himachal among many others. Ahead of the sale, Snapdeal added 1300 new pin codes to go deeper into Bharat, areas which were previously unserviceable or where users were compelled to travel to nearby towns to collect their orders. It also updated its user interface by adding eight languages including Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati, Punjabi, and Marathi. As a result, 70% of its orders were received by sellers located beyond the top 5 metropolitan areas of the country and 90% of its orders were placed from non-metro cities. We caught up with Rajnish Wahi, Senior Vice President, Snapdeal to further understand some of trends that the platform saw during its sale. Excerpts: Q. The role of engagement and communication has never been more important, especially in today’s digital-first world. How are you making sure your communication during this year's sale is relevant to consumers? Snapdeal is sharply focused on catering to the value-conscious consumers, who see e-commerce as the connecting link between their aspirations, access and affordability. Our theme for this year’s festive sale - “Kum Mein Dum Diwali '' clearly communicates our core message - your shopping rupee has more value this year. As part of our sale preparations, we had conducted a survey of nearly 1.25 Lakh users and one of the key insights was user unwillingness to pay for brand premiums this year and instead focus on the functional value of their purchases. Based on these inputs, the festive assortment was expanded in a focused manner by on-boarding additional sellers for popular products like kitchen appliances, kitchenware, bed linen, apparel, footwear and fashion accessories like watches, wallets, etc. Shaping our sale offers around the clearly-stated expectations of our customers and conveying the same unambiguously through our festive promotions and digital marketing is the sum and substance of our festive communication. Q. This year is different. People have been observed to be judicious in spending. How has the consumer sentiment improved? While 2020 has been a volatile year, we see that there are many tailwinds that are propelling our business. The pandemic has resulted in redistribution of demand between offline and online channels, with online gaining share due to its inherent advantages of reach, convenience, large assortment and safety of buying from home. It has also accelerated the familiarity and acceptance of e-commerce amongst new buyers. With the pandemic, consumers have become more price conscious and are likely to opt for lesser-priced products, while not compromising on their quality expectations. Given all of this, we have seen two sets of buyers come on Snapdeal - one which is trading up to a better assortment and one that is trading down and opting for better functional value instead of big brands. In fact, we have added 6 million new buyers on our platform in the pandemic. We are witnessing the return of enthusiasm for festivities and it is also apparent that online channels will be a preferred medium for a larger number of buyers this year. But it will also be different this year, as more people will be price conscious and will look to spend on quality products that suit their price sensibilities. In a way, Snapdeal’s “Kum Me Dum” focus is about “offering more choices at price points better than last year”, especially for popular categories like home &amp; fashion, which has been made possible by year-long focus on expanding our value selection. Q. With the on-going festive season, many other platforms will have their Sales days too. How do you then cut the clutter and make sure you win consumers? How will you be different from the other players in the segment? Snapdeal is synonymous with value e-commerce. While others in the industry are now starting to build a value segment, we at Snapdeal have been focused on “only value” for the last three years. While other platforms are making efforts to sell branded items at discounted prices, these are still not affordable for a majority of the buyers in the country. On the other hand, we are focussed on bringing the depth and diversity of India's bazaars &amp; markets to the doorsteps of our users. On Snapdeal, buyers find endless varieties of regional and local brands that not only serve their needs, but also offer immense value at affordable prices. The result of our “Kum Mein Dum” Diwali sale bears testimony to this - more than 80% of Snapdeal’s Diwali shoppers chose to buy regional &amp; local brands on Snapdeal. What are some of the other trends you are expecting to see this festive? Our first sales results are out and are reflective of how close the lives of users revolve around their homes. The sale in the home products category has grown by 30% over last year and has become the largest category on Snapdeal this year, overtaking the fashion category, which has traditionally been the top-performer at Snapdeal. The growth in the home category is propelled by popular products like kitchen appliances, kitchenware, bed &amp; bath,decor,cleaning equipment, lighting and comforters &amp; blankets etc. This growth in the fitness category reflects the extra time that people have on their hands and also underscores heightened awareness about personal health &amp; fitness. This category has grown by 45% over last year led by gym essentials like tummy trimmers, push-up bars, wrist supports, fitness gloves, hand grip strengtheners etc. Users buying sports equipment like badminton racquets &amp; cricket sets and weighing machines are also strong consumer trends. While the fashion category has also grown from previous years in terms of shipped units, the growth is less than other higher-performing categories. In the fashion category, there is an increased spending on kidswear in the festive season. . Among popular picks in Snapdeal’s Diwali sale are men’s &amp; women’s grooming products, nutritional supplements, religious items (prayer books, temples accessories etc). With the deterioration of air quality in North India, the sale of N95 masks, air-purifier filters, anti-pollution skincare items, skin moisturisers, lip balms has also increased. Snapdeal also witnessed an increase in gifting via e-commerce early in this festive season. The range of festivals starting with Karva Chauth and followed by Dhanteras, Diwali, Bhaiya Dooj and Chhath Puja have become important gifting occasions for users in various parts of the country. While in the previous years, shoppers used e-commerce channels to buy and ship to families &amp; friends in other cities, this year many shoppers in metro cities are also sending gifts to people living in the same cities. This year gift cards have also been hugely popular among people to send to their friends and family, with a 3X surge in orders as compared to the festive sale last year. These included gift cards of travel, entertainment, food and retail brands which were upto 30% off. Q. How are you working towards improving the overall consumer experience? E-Commerce in India has grown beyond the first 100 Mn largely urban, English-speaking users. A market of potentially 400 Mn users is now emerging across India’s smaller non-metro cities. This is a very diverse cohort in terms of languages spoken, literacy levels, frequency of online purchases and familiarity with technology. A large part of Snapdeal’s existing user base and new users come from this cohort and all our focus and efforts are on building the right experience that our users want. That means we work tirelessly to give them a wide array of products to choose from, and at just the right prices they are looking to spend. We also make it easy in many other ways for users to buy on Snapdeal. This includes providing interfaces on our app &amp; m-site in eight Indian languages, so that they can browse through products &amp; transact in a language of their choice. We also enable conversation with our customer service agents in multiple Indian languages. Transaction and promotional messages all are available in many Indian languages. We started off as a team of doctors with an inclination towards skincare in a natural way. To our surprise, the majority of customers were more or less unaware of the ingredients they were feeding their skin. However, of late many global brands have come up with the idea of natural skincare. Though the idea of chemical free skincare has been widely accepted by our Indian customer base but ‘natural skincare’ still remains a blanket term for many,” said Bhatia. 
 
The ever growing demand for and existing confusion about ‘natural skincare’ have been strategically exploited by lot of labels. Just adding the label of Natural, Herbal, Ayurvedic don’t make it so. It’s the situation that made Fuschia to promote ‘natural skincare’ as products essentially free of SLS, Parabens, Pthalates, Mineral oils, Synthetic colours and fragrances. 
 
Handmade 
The manufacturing process is ‘handmade’. The production batches are small and this also ensures that the products reach customers in their freshest form. The constant endeavour to provide the customers the best for their skin and at the same time contributing towards saving the ecosystem from harsh chemicals makes the brand appreciable. 
 
Funding 
Currently a self funded organization, Fuschia works along with a network of 100+ ecommerce portals. Among the distribution channels, Fuschia has collaborated with subscription boxes and retail stores. 
 
 
 
Challenges 
“Being a team of medicos, manufacturing skincare products was not our forte. It was a challenge researching on production of such a range. With great efforts and lot of technical support from people associated with the field we started off with this humongous task of making ‘Fuschia’. Since our launch we have had limited financial resources and with no investors we stuck to being bootstrapped. It was not an easy job to sell a new skincare brand in this very competitive market, and to the customers with ample knowledge and affinity to the existing big names in the industry. When it came to marketing and promotion of the brand, paucity of funds once again stood in the way,” said Bhatia. 
 
Market size &amp; opportunity 
According to International market research agencies, personal care industry demand in this segment was over $7.6 billion (approx Rs 50,000 crore) in 2012 and is expected to reach $13.2 billion (approx Rs 80,000 crore) by 2018, growing at a CAGR of 9.6 per cent from 2012 to 2018. 
 
Indian consumers are now more aware and conscious of their health &amp; beaity choices, and there is a growing demand for chemical free skincare products and our brand caters to the needs of this health conscious segment.

<a href="http://dinnerlab.com/">Dinner Lab</a>, a startup that hosts dinner parties for an exclusive group of paying members, claims that it can reduce the restaurant business down to a science. Over the next several weeks, it will be taking data from a series of events across the U.S. to create what it says will be the very first crowdsourced restaurant.
"We believe we can normalize data from thousands of people across the U.S. and get a restaurant to maximize their meals in the market," Dinner Lab co-founder and CEO Brian Bordainick said to Business Insider. 
Dinner Lab has been hosting pop-up food events for a year and a half. According to Bordainick, the idea surfaced when he and his co-founders were living in New Orleans and becoming frustrated at how difficult it was to get a quality dining experience after 9 p.m. Their original business plan was to host dinner parties that started at midnight, but that plan flopped when they realized their guests had become too inebriated by that time of the night.
Even though their initial concept failed, in the process they had became acquainted with many New Orleans-based chefs who were looking to do something beyond their usual routine. 
"These chefs wanted to cook things they actually cared about, and they wanted feedback," Bordainick said. "That really became the backbone of our brand."

Members become eligible to purchase tickets for specific events, which range in price from $50 to $95 and include at least five courses and alcohol pairings. 
Each event is different, with a different chef setting a menu each night. The location also constantly changes, with dinners taking place in some pretty unconventional spots: helipads, factories, and piers are among some of the more interesting locations. 
After dinner, attendees fill out a comment card, where they're asked to rate the meal based on its creativity, taste, portion size, and temperature. They're also asked to comment on whether they think certain items belong on a restaurant menu. 
 "The data we're collecting is unlike anything else in the industry," Bordainick said. "We hit about 97% of our diners filling out the feedback card."
According to Bordainick, that direct feedback can be tailored many different ways to get some very specific - and very valuable - data.
"You can begin to pinpoint, for example, that 35-year-old males in New York are reacting to tuna tartare this way and in Nashville this way. Asian cuisine is a huge hole in Nashville, while in L.A. it's Indian. That way, the chef can be a little more informed on that market," he said. "If this system works, we can continue this process over and over again. It can become more of a marketplace where emerging talent can come to us, and we help them open up a concept that works."

Dinner Lab has already grown rapidly, expanding to 10 markets and bringing on 55 full-time employees in just over a year of business. 
"A year ago we were in our first office, which was a ground-floor apartment in New Orleans where we were washing dishes in the bath tub," Bordainick said. "It's pretty serious growth in a short amount of time." 
Starting in two weeks, the company will amplify its effort to crowdsource diners' desires. Dinner Lab will embark on a 10-week tour around the country, visiting all 10 of its markets - New York City, New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Miami, Nashville, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and San Francisco - cycling its best chefs through each one, and collecting a ton of data.
The company hopes it can use its findings to create a restaurant that's perfect for a particular market. 
"Some big-name chefs may say it can't be scientific, and we agree with them to a certain extent. It's so hard to predict consumer behavior," Bordainick said. "But it doesn't make sense to me that people wouldn't want to have as informed a decision as possible."
