Even under the Central Government’s <keyword id="9359618" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="15" keywordseo="unlock-2-0">Unlock 2.0</keyword> plan, cinema halls continue to be included in prohibited activities list. <keyword id="9468240" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="the-multiplex-association-of-india">The Multiplex Association of India</keyword> has expressed dismal over the government decision to keep cinema halls and multiplexes shut. In a statement released for the media, <keyword id="5244245" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Multiplex-Association">Multiplex Association</keyword> of India said, “At a time when a significant part of the economy is being opened up, including domestic travel, offices, high street, markets, shopping complexes, etc., the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) feels dismayed that cinemas and multiplexes continue to remain in the list of prohibited activities under the Central Government’s Unlock 2.0 Guidelines. The Association finds it highly demotivating and disheartening when in fact, Cinemas and Multiplexes can become an example of how social distancing guidelines and crowd control can be best exercised in a safe and planned manner. As compared to the unorganised retail and shops that have been opened up, multiplexes and cinema are part of the organised sector, playing hosts to ‘revenue paying’ customers only and hence, in a better position to limit crowds unlike marketplaces and deploy all the mechanisms and guidelines for crowd control and social distancing.” “The multiplex industry in India employs more than 200,000 people directly. We are the backbone of the Indian Film Industry accounting nearly 60% of revenues of film business. The livelihoods of more than a million people – right from the spot boys to makeup artists, musicians, designers, technicians and engineers to cinema employees to directors and actors – hinges on the survival of Indian cinema. The lockdown has literally brought the entire industry to a standstill with losses mounting every passing day. An early decision to allow cinemas to open up will only help the mobilization of resources in the film industry’s ecosystem and would lead to gradual resurrection. In fact even after opening up, we anticipate at least 3-6 months before things return anywhere close to normal. On one hand where programming of new content will take some time to kick in; movie buffs on the other hand are expected to take a cautious approach before returning to cinemas. These are real challenges that the industry will have to overcome and we believe together, with the support of the government, we will be able to overcome them,” it further read. Globally, countries like France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Austria, Hong Kong, UAE, US, etc., and more recently, Belgium and Malaysia have opened cinemas. To which, MAI said, “Many countries have opened cinemas to the public with implementation of the highest degree of safety protocols and have seen a warm response by audiences. In effect, more than 20 major cinema markets around the world have started operating. MAI is of the firm belief that, there must be a start and the unlocking of cinemas in non-containment zones across India should be done post haste – there must be a beginning and an opportunity must be given to us, just like some of the other sectors.”

Minimum 2 meters distance between colleagues to be maintained. </li><li>Crew, artists &amp; participants will be called at-least 45 mins prior to shoot to ensure thorough implementation of safety precautions. </li><li>It is advisable to give priority to portable chairs over standard benches. </li><li>If possible, provide arrangement for bathing.</li><li>Monthly swab tests, microbiology labs to check the sanitization of studio, sets and office. </li><li>Encourage a work-from-home strategy where possible. </li><li>Crew above the age of 60 years should be avoided at least for three months from the date of shooting as and when it starts and cast above the age of 60 years should be judicially used.</li><li>Count with 4 masks per 1 crew member over the 12-hour long shoot day. </li><li>Auditions will be carried out online. </li><li>Use shoe covers when accessing an indoor location.</li><li>No extra person will be allowed with the Artist except for their Hair and Make-up in the vanity van. </li><li>Staff members may be ideally advised to carry home prepared food. </li><li>All on set crew must wear colored bands which can help identify their roles</li></ul>The coronavirus pandemic has forced the film industry to lose as much as $130 million box office revenue. According to a survey by Local Circles, based on responses from 11,000 people, only one in five respondents (22%) are planning to watch a movie in the cinema hall or multiplex in the next 60 days. The report, first launched in 2016, looks at the Indian box office across languages, highlighting key trends in the theatrical sector. Because of theatres being shut for several months during the pandemic, Ormax Media has released a combined edition for the two pandemic-impacted years (2020 and 2021). The report analyses the impact of the pandemic on the Indian box office. Compared to gross box office of almost ₹ 11,000 Cr in 2019, the cumulative revenue across 2020 and 2021 put together stood at only ₹ 5,757 Cr (an annual average of less than ₹ 2,900 crore. If 2019 is taken as the benchmark, the Indian film industry lost at least ₹ 15,000 Cr at the box office because of the pandemic. The footfalls also came down from 103.0 Cr in 2019 to 22.5 Cr and 42.7 Cr in 2020 and 2021 respectively. The pandemic years also saw significant changes in the share of different language industries within the Indian film industries. With 29% share of box office (2020 &amp; 2021 cumulative), the Telugu language industry took the top position, ahead of Hindi, whose share declined from 44% to 27%. Four Telugu films (Pushpa, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, Sarileru Neekevvaru &amp; Vakeel Saab) feature in the top 10 films across the two years, compared to only three Hindi films (Tanhaji, Sooryavanshi &amp; 83). Spider-Man: No Way Home (Hollywood), Master &amp; Darbar (both Tamil) complete the top 10 list. Speaking about the report, <keyword id="161338" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="shailesh-kapoor" source="Orion">Shailesh Kapoor</keyword>, Founder &amp; CEO - Ormax Media, said: “The pandemic has severely impacted the Indian box office, with five out of the eight quarters in 2020 and 2021 having zero or negligible business, because of theatres being shut in all or most parts of India. "Like any other industry, Bollywood will also have to face challenges as far as producing films is concerned," he tells IANSlife. Adding, "Like other industries, the film industry will also face challenges with new changes in producing films for big and small screen. The situation is still wait n watch post the lockdown. It was a major setback for us, but we will fight this out together. We are waiting for the cinemas to re-open; we will release the films again." However, the 'Karz' director believes that post this phase of fighting the global pandemic, the world will emerge to be a better version of what was before. "Trust me, it will be a better world with better wisdom, discipline, creative, innovative in socio political and economic platforms latest by post 2024. Changes in between may create chaos conflict and confusions in the world with new debatable decisions. But finally it will settle for better world. It will be 'yuga parivartan' period," says the 'showman of India'. Ghai, who is the Chairman of Media &amp; Entertainment Skills Council (MESC), is hosting a webinar on Vidyavaan, an initiative by MESC, which aims to provide informal vocational education and skill development.
