It added that during 2021-2024, India recorded one of the lowest deviations from its inflation targets, highlighting the effectiveness of its inflation control measures. This success, the report points out, is largely a result of coordinated efforts between the <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="reserve-bank-of-india" source="keywords">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) and the central government. "India had a largely successful inflation targeting regime. Compared to advanced economies like the USA, Germany" said the report. As per the report the synchronization of monetary and fiscal policies, particularly during the pandemic, played a key role in maintaining price stability. It also emphasized that India's pre-inflation targeting regime faced several challenges that hindered the effective transmission of monetary policy. These challenges included sustained fiscal dominance, the presence of a large informal sector, significant informal financing, and inefficiencies in how banks priced their loan products. "Effectiveness of monetary policy in India's pre-Inflation Targeting regime was constrained by several India specific factors that affected transmission of the policy impulses through the interest rate channel" the report added. However, one of the key arguments in the report is that the RBI's inflation targeting has anchored inflationary expectations, even as food inflation remains high. The notion that headline inflation should exclude food prices was dismissed as counterfactual by the report. According to the study, the RBI's success in targeting inflation, despite food price volatility, has prevented a spill-over from food inflation to core inflation. The report stressed that the RBI's consistent communication of its inflation target--set at 4 per cent--has been crucial in successfully anchoring inflation expectations. By reinforcing its commitment to this target, the RBI has helped stabilize inflationary trends across the broader economy. The SBI report reinforces India's effective monetary policy framework, particularly in light of the global inflationary pressures seen in advanced economies like the US and Germany.

The experts also pointed out that this volatility, due to weak economic data, an aggressive Bank of Japan and falling commodity prices. "Throughout the day on Tuesday, the market hovered between 25235/82400 and 25320/82675. The daily chart showed a small candle, indicating indecision between bulls and bears. It seems the market is currently non-directional, and traders may be waiting for a breakout on either side. In the global markets, the US Index S&amp;P 500 declined by 2.12 per cent, while Nasdaq lost 3.26 per cent. The European markets also faced pressure, with Germany's DAX declining by 0.98 per cent, the French market index CAC losing 0.94 per cent, and the UK's FTSE index losing 0.79 per cent. Asian markets on Wednesday, Japan's Nikkei index tanked more than 3.31 per cent, or 1,280 points, while Taiwan's Taiwan Weighted plummeted 3.47 per cent. All major Asian stock indices sustained losses on Wednesday following the global decline. South Korea's KOSPI also lost 2.24 per cent.

The Japanese and Hong Kong markets faced high selling pressure, with major indices declining by more than 1.50 per cent. Japan's Nikkei 225 index declined by 1.84 per cent or 632 points, while Hong Kong's Hang Seng was down by 1.73 per cent or 301 points at the time of filing this report. According to experts, concerns of a slowdown in China and Germany have added fuel to the selling in stocks, which were already volatile due to <keyword id="19913707" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Fed-rate-cut" source="keywords">Fed rate cut</keyword> expectations. "Eight days of volatility are assured for the markets as the Fed rate cut of September 18 comes within striking distance. The seasonality of poor September performance of markets is playing out as per expectations. On top of that, the slowdown in China and Germany is adding to global growth worries. However, experts also noted that the impact of the other Asian markets will be less on Indian stocks because of the high buying by domestic investors, but some volatility can be expected. Bagga added, "For Indian markets, the impact is coming via FII selling. The good news is that despite the net FII outflows of over Rs 5.5 lakh crore from Jan 2022 to August 2024, the Rs 11 lakh crore plus of robust domestic inflows have meant every dip has been bought into in the Indian markets. We expect a couple of weeks of this volatility, but don't expect sharp cuts in the Indian markets given the domestic liquidity sitting on the sidelines." Indian stock indices took a sharp hit on Friday, the last trading day of the current week, with all sectoral indices closing deep in the red. The sell-off was broad-based, with the banking and energy sectors taking the biggest hit. Nifty 50 dropped 292.95 points, or 1.17 per cent, to 24,852.15, while the BSE Sensex fell 1,017.23 points, or 1.24 per cent, to 81,183.93. "The recent weakness in U.S. markets has stalled the momentum in Indian markets, causing participants to become cautious ahead of the upcoming jobs data," said Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research, Religare Broking.
