 India’s apex weather agency also points out that maximum temperatures in most of the places affected by the heat wave are at least 5.1 degrees Celsius above what the department considers ‘normal’.

Indian heat wave hits 50 degrees Celsius — shaping up to be India’s hottest summer ever

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Parts of India could become too hot for human survival in future heatwaves, a report warned. </li><li>Indian employees already work in "potentially life-threatening temperatures" at times, it said. </li></ul>A new report from the World Bank warns that temperatures in parts of India could push beyond what is survivable by humans within the span of a few years. The details were cited by several <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/india-could-soon-experience-heat-waves-beyond-human-survival-limit-world-bank-3584977">Indian</a> <a href="https://www.indiatimes.com/news/india/soon-india-could-experience-heatwaves-beyond-human-survival-limit-warns-world-bank-586946.html">outlets</a> and <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/independentpremium/world/india-heatwaves-world-bank-report-b2241633.html">UK newspaper The Independent</a>, which said they had advance sight of the report.The report, due for release on Saturday, includes numerous recommendations for investing in cooling technologies in India, where demand is predicted to rapidly increase in the face of a warming planet. "Soon India could become one of the first places in the world to experience heat waves that break the human survivability limit," the document said, per the reports.It was prepared on the occasion of a two-day conference between the government of India's Kerala region and the World Bank, The Independent reported. <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/india-birds-fall-from-sky-india-amid-record-122f-heatwave-2022-5">India already experienced a crushing, weekslong heatwave</a> earlier this year, where temperatures in several cities <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/14/opinion/environment/heat-waves-india-pakistan-climate-change.html">reached passed 110°F</a>.It represented a peak for <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/heat-waves-are-dominating-summer-and-its-not-abnormal-anymore-2022-7">soaring temperatures worldwide,</a> with parts of the US and <a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-show-how-people-are-dealing-with-european-heatwave-2022-7">Europe</a> also struggling to adapt to high humidity and waves of <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/photos-maps-forecast-extreme-heat-fires-may-last-weeks-2022-7">wildfires</a>. In India's capital of New Delhi, the temperature reached 114°F — and such heatwaves "are increasing with alarming frequency," the report said.<a href="https://www.carbonbrief.org/state-of-the-climate-2022-on-track-for-a-summer-of-extreme-heat/">Climate scientists overwhelmingly attribute</a> long-term temperature change to human-caused carbon emissions. If India does not curb its carbon emissions, its heatwaves are "likely to last 25 times longer by 2036-65," the World Bank report said, <a href="https://www.g20climaterisks.org/india/">citing a 2021 assessment by the G20</a>.According to the World Bank report, India will need "massive cooling infrastructure across all sectors" in order to protect vulnerable workers."Up to 75 percent of India's workforce, or 380 million people, depend on heat-exposed labor, at times working in potentially life-threatening temperature," the report said.The impact both on labor productivity — and human health — is severe, with many working within "potentially life-threatening temperatures" at times, it said. But, with the average income being $2 a day, conventional electric fans or air conditioning units are out of reach for many, it said.

India could suffer heatwaves that 'break the human survivability limit,' World Bank says

In the first half of June 2014, news accounts described an extreme heatwave in India, as well as the late and somewhat weak arrival of the seasonal monsoon. Air temperatures in New Delhi climbed as high as 48° Celsius (118° Fahrenheit) and stayed above 43°C (110°F) for seven days. Satellite data offer some insights on what was happening on the ground.
The maps above show <a href="http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/GlobalMaps/view.php?d1=MOD_LSTAD_M&amp;eocn=home&amp;eoci=globalmaps">land surface temperature (LST) anomalies</a> for southern Asia from June 2-9 and June 10-17, 2014. LST anomalies are not absolute temperatures; instead, they show how much the land surface was heated above or below the average. The darkest reds show areas where the ground was as much as 12°C (22°F) above the norm from 2001-2010; blues show areas that were below normal; and grays depicts areas with incomplete data (usually due to excessive cloud cover).

The top map depicts extreme heating northwestern India, Tibet, and southern China in the first week of June; the temperature highs were less extreme in the June 10-17 period. Yet neither map fully captures the heatwave that occurred in northern and central India because it overlapped two different weeks of data. Each map shows an average of eight days, so the extreme temperatures of individual days gets smoothed out by the average to cooler temperatures on other days in the period. The extremes around New Delhi also might not show up as brightly in this map because temperatures were about 5°C above the norm while other areas went as much as 12°C above.
But the map does reveal something else: the arrival of the monsoon. Note how much of central and western India is cooler in the second week; there are also several gray areas where cloudiness masked out measurements of the ground. Rainfall, cloud cover, and moist breezes from the Arabian Sea likely explain the change in land surface temperatures. India's meteorological agency noted that the monsoon has arrived, but rainfall in the June to September period is expected to be weaker than normal.
Observed by satellites uniformly around the world, land surface temperatures are a measure of the amount of infrared energy (thermal radiance) emitted by Earth's surface as it is heated by daylight and cooled in the dark of night. LSTs are sometimes referred to as land "skin" temperatures, and indeed they are a reflection of how hot a surface would feel to the touch. NASA Maps Show Asia's Insane June Heat Wave 

Wearables brand Fitbit has introduced an advanced smartwatch called the <keyword id="9822384" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="fitbit-sense">Fitbit Sense</keyword> that comes with electrodermal activity (EDA) to measure daily stress and comes with a heart rate tracker, ECG and skin temperature sensors. The company also introduced Versa 3 and Inspire 2 wearables. All three wearables will be available globally starting late September and will arrive in India in the festive season, according to the company. Fitbit Sense is priced at Rs 34,999 while the Fitbit Versa will cost Rs 26,499. The Fitbit Inspire 2 fitness band is priced at Rs 10,999. "Our new products and services are our most innovative yet, coupling our most advanced sensor technology and algorithms to unlock more information about our bodies and our health so you can be in control," said James Park, co-founder and CEO, Fitbit. The new EDA sensor on Fitbit Sense measures electrodermal activity responses. Using the EDA Scan app, place your palm over the face of the device to detect small electrical changes in the sweat level of your skin. "You can do a quick EDA Scan session on device to see your responses, or pair it with guided mindfulness sessions in the Fitbit app to see how your body responds during meditation or relaxation," the company said. At the end of your session, you will see an EDA response graph on-device and in the mobile app to gauge your progress over time and reflect on how you feel emotionally. Fitbit Premium members will get a detailed breakdown on how the score is calculated, which consists of over 10 biometric inputs, including exertion balance (impact of activity), responsiveness (heart rate, heart rate variability and electrodermal activity from the EDA Scan app), and sleep patterns (sleep quality). Fitbit Sense has another feature called Active Zone Minutes, which helps users make every minute count during workouts by buzzing their wrist when they enter their personalised target heart rate zones. It also comes with an ECG app that can help detect heart issues such as atrial fibrillation. The company claims its new ‘PurePulse 2.0 technology', which uses the in-built heart rate sensor, is its most advanced heart rate technology yet. In addition, Fitbit Sense also comes with a new skin temperature sensor that can detect early signs of a fever or the start of a new menstrual cycle. Fitbit Versa 3 comes with in-built GPS, PurePulse 2.0, and a built-in speaker to help you make phone calls while on the move. Versa 3 also comes with support for virtual assistants such as Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Fitbit Inspire 2 comes with features such as a heart-rate tracker, a sleep tracker, sedentary reminder, menstrual health tracker, guided breathing sessions and more than 20 exercise modes.
