The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the main cricket governing body in India has announced the squad for the upcoming World Cup 2019. Rishabh Pant and Ambati rayudu have not managed to make it to the 15-member squad. Vijay Shankar has been named as the second all-rounder in the squad along with Hardik Pandeya. Seven players who were there in the 2015 world cup squad have managed to make it to the 2019 team. Prithvi Shaw has also missed the spot despite promising performance in the home season earlier this year. India has included only three full-time fast bowlers in the squad. Harmanpreet to lead tried and tested bunch at T20 World Cup as India look to end title drought

Shardul Thakur replaces Axar Patel in India's T20 World Cup squad

The All-India Senior Selection Committee has finally announced the names of the players who would be part of India’s squad for the 2015 World Cup.
 According to a BCCI press release, <keyword id="6354832" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="MS-Dhoni">MS Dhoni</keyword> will lead the 15-member squad in ICC CWC 2015. Other members of the squad are: <keyword id="6354486" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Virat-Kohli">Virat Kohli</keyword> (Vice Captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Stuart Binny, Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, Ambati Rayudu, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Md. Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ishant Sharma. Sadly, senior players like <keyword id="351" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Yuvraj-Singh">Yuvraj Singh</keyword> couldn’t find any place in the team. Former Indian cricketer <keyword id="1518" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="irfan-pathan" source="Orion">Irfan Pathan</keyword> has questioned the sudden inclusion of off-break spinner <keyword id="200030" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ravichandran-ashwin" source="Orion">Ravichandran Ashwin</keyword> in the Indian ODI series against Australia starting from September 22, ahead of the <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="world-cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword>. Ashwin who hasn't been part of the Indian ODI squad for a long time, played his last ODI match in January 2022 against South Africa. Talking to Star Sports, Irfan Pathan felt that there was a lack of planning and that Ashwin should have been given more chances. "You get a better spinner than Ashwin in the entire world. But in a tournament as big as the World Cup, where there is immense pressure, you can't expect a senior player to walk in and play for the team in a format which he hasn't played for a long time and prove his worth. So you are leaving it entirely to fate. There is no planning here. Had there been a plan for Ashwin, they should have given him some game time before the World Cup. Yes, he will be playing against Australia, but is that enough? You have to bowl for 10 overs, adjust in the team as well, and give India that result. It isn't that easy. Planning should have been better," said Pathan. The decision to bring Ashwin back into the mix comes ahead of the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, which is set to commence next month. Ashwin was not selected in the provisional ODI World Cup squad, nor was part of the Asia Cup. However, with the injury of Axar Patel, Ashwin's potential return to the ODI format looks possible. Ajit Agarkar, the chairman of selection for the BCCI, made a suggestion that Patel had a good chance of recuperating in time for the World Cup. But if Patel can't recover by the International Cricket Council's deadline on September 28, Ashwin might be a last-minute addition to the World Cup squad. Earlier in the press conference skipper <keyword id="13937" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="rohit-sharma" source="Orion">Rohit Sharma</keyword> also expressed confidence in Ashwin's abilities and stated that he is in continuous touch with him.
