The matches were to be played behind closed doors The BCCI had yesterday <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/india/news/lucknow-kolkata-odis-to-be-held-in-empty-stadiums-due-to-coronavirus-pandemic/articleshow/74600486.cms">announced</a> that the two remaining ODI matches will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus outbreak. Now, the matches have been abandoned all together due to the deadly disease. Move comes after IPL postponement The decision to cancel the two ODI matches comes just a few hours after the IPL 2020 was postponed from March 29 to April 15. “With the IPL being postponed, it only made sense that at this point of time, this series is also called off. The country is facing a serious pandemic,” a BCCI official told PTI. The official added that the South African team will soon leave for their home. “The South African team will come to Delhi and leave by taking the earliest available flight,” the official added. IPL may meet the same fate At the moment it is not clear why the closed-door games were cancelled. The IPL 2020 is also expected to be played behind closed doors and the cancellation of the ODI series may be a hint of things to come for the IPL 2020. India-South Africa series cancelled due to coronavirus threat

Mumbai, Jan 16 ( ) South Africa will put in place online visa facility for Indian tourists on a pilot basis from next week, the African country's Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said on Thursday.
 The minister said the South African government was also exploring the possibility of a third country air transport carrier being allowed to operate a direct flight to Mumbai from South Africa.
 Currently, there is no direct flight service between India and South Africa.
 South African Airways had operated flights between Johannesburg and Mumbai.
 Stating that South Africa has taken several measures to provide ease of access to Indian tourists, including bringing changes in the visa regime, the minister said, "the pilot for online visa application system is going to happen from next week".
 Kubayi-Ngbubane, who is in the city as part of a road show to promote South African tourism, said that if the pilot project goes without any glitch, "a full roll out will take place from April 1".
 With 81,316 Indian arrivals as of October 2019, there is a "positive outlook" for the Indian market, as per the South African Tourism Board.
 As of September 2019, total expenditure by Indian travellers in South Africa touched a four-year high. In the first half of 2019, average length of stay of travellers from India rose 8 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
 The African country is expecting the number of Indian arrivals to grow to one lakh in 2020.
 South Africa is also in talks with India for granting "multiple-entry visa," the minister said.
 Besides, South Africa is looking to fast track visa process of the Indian travellers who hold US or Schengen visa by way of sharing data of such travellers.
 Mmamoloko Kubayi-Ngubane said South Africa is seeing a 30.2 per cent growth in tourists arrivals from India on a year-on-year basis and it could increase to 50 per cent over a period of time.
 According to her, segments such as MICE and sports, would drive the growth, and that South Africa has also emerged as a wedding destination.
 She said the South African government was exploring whether there was an airline ( from a third country) willing to operate direct flights to Mumbai and if there was any, the proposal would be discussed with the Indian government. IAS RAM

South Africa to offer online visa facility for Indian tourists

By Fakir Hassen Johannesburg, June 19 () Over 300 Indians stranded in South Africa due to coronavirus-related travel restrictions will fly back home in a specially arranged chartered flight on Monday. The India Club of South Africa (ICSA), a socio-cultural organisation of Indian expatriates, has arranged the flight with assistance from the Ethiopian Airlines. The route will be to Hyderabad via Addis Ababa in Ethiopia. As of now, 338 Indians are set to fly home. Almost all the passengers are from south India and over half of them are from Hyderabad. "They will therefore face quarantine restrictions closer to home than if they had been flown to Delhi or Mumbai," said vice president of ICSA John Francis. "It was really painful to see so many Indians stuck in South Africa. There were passengers who had lost family members back home, pregnant women, people who had lost jobs, senior citizens, and depressed people," Francis said. ICSA president Manish Gupta said the flight was arranged with cooperation of India's Ministry of External Affairs, the High Commission Office in Pretoria, Consular Offices in Durban and Cape Town, and South African authorities. Gupta said the ICSA was considering to arrange another flights as about 600 Indians will still be left in South Africa. This will be the third repatriation flight to India from South Africa after the COVID-19 outbreak. The first flight was last month taking around 300 nationals to Delhi and Mumbai in a South African Airways flight. As per the latest <keyword id="73545" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ICC-ODI-rankings">ICC ODI rankings</keyword>, India were at the third spot and Indian <keyword id="6354486" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Virat-Kohli">Virat Kohli</keyword> was the second best batsman on the rankings after South African batsman AB de Villiers. 
 
Australia and New Zealand were at number one and two spots, respectively.

Even if they also loses their preceding one-off match to Ireland and get blanked by South Africa, Australia will retain number-one position at 116 points with South Africa behind it on decimal points.
