New Delhi [India], August 9 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce &amp; Industry <keyword id="19895367" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Piyush-Goyal" source="keywords">Piyush Goyal</keyword> stated that the leather and <keyword id="21599313" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Footwear-industry" source="keywords">footwear industry</keyword> of the country has the potential to raise employment in the sector from the current 40 lakh to 1 crore. The minister stated it while inaugurating the 8th <keyword id="22718849" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India-International-Footwear-Fair" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="India International Footwear Fair" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="India International Footwear Fair">India International Footwear Fair</keyword> in Delhi on Thursday. He highlighted that the leather and footwear industry has the ability to expand its market domestically and abroad. "We have the world market to capture. We need self-confidence, open mind to accept change" said Goyal. The minister also added that the implementation of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) will help prevent substandard, low-cost leather product imports and help save the Indian Footwear industry from unfair competition. He stated QCOs will help inculcate a spirit of quality among the domestic manufacturers, enabling India to become a world-class manufacturer of quality footwear. On liberalising the QCO guidelines, Goyal said that the Centre will give retailers two years to dispose of the existing footwear stock post application of the order. He also noted that fashion footwear manufacturing up to 72,000 pairs will not have to go through QCOs. Minister Goyal asserted that India is poised to become the market leader in the world. He also expressed hope for the footwear industry to become the world's largest manufacturer. Currently, India is the 2nd largest manufacturer and 9th largest exporter of footwear. The Minister also said that a target of USD 50 billion in exports by 2030 is achievable. He pointed out that QCOs don't apply to exports but the exporters have to meet the quality requirements of their clients. The Minister urged the industry to leverage the Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), especially with ASEAN and European countries and work towards making Indian brands global. Earlier the minister also highlighted that micro and small units under <keyword id="19990810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MSME" source="keywords">MSME</keyword> would continue to be exempted from the purview of QCOs. Tackling the 'Korean Discount': A deep dive into curious case of Hyundai Motor India's market listing

<keyword id="23820" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="footwear" source="Orion">Footwear</keyword> retailers have sought more time for the implementation of norms of the Quality Control Order, 2020 (QCO), for footwear manufacturers. QCO norms for footwear are slated to be enforced from July 1 in the country. Retailers have urged the government to give them 8-10 months of additional time from the effective date of the QCO for footwear manufacturers. This request is meant to allow retailers to place orders and procure stocks of Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-compliant footwear from manufacturers, the retailers said in their request. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) issued QCO for footwear made from leather, rubber or polymer. Once implemented, it will make it compulsory to conform with the Indian Standards and footwear products will also be required to bear a Standard Mark under a licence. Saurabh Sanyal, CEO and Secretary, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), said that the implementation of QCO at this crucial juncture without much time for transition for the retail industry has created a precarious situation and will be an impediment to the operation, growth and sustenance of the footwear retail sector. "While the industry is gearing up for readiness of QCO compliance for new manufacturing, as of now there has been no clarity for applicability of QCO on the inventory manufactured or procured prior to June 30, 2023 (before QCO effective date), for which large capital has been deployed by pan-India retailers while incurring a huge amount of taxes, duties and levies," Sanyal said. The retailers said that most of the manufacturing plants still do not have internal testing facilities within their premises. They will require further investments and time for setting up such facilities before applying for the BIS registration and certification process. According to the PHDCCI statement, only a miniscule of manufacturers or suppliers have been able to receive the BIS licences till date with 30 licences issued across 10 leather footwear categories, and 18 licences for 13 categories of non-leather footwear. At the current pace, the certification process for most manufacturers will not be completed even after the QCO's effective date, it added. Moreover, the retail industry players said that they were determined to adopt the QCO and are aligned with Prime Minister's clarion call for "Zero-Defect-Zero Effect" manufacturing. They said that while the manufacturers have already commenced the process for getting BIS registration and licences to comply with QCO requirements, the existing infrastructure and testing facilities are not sufficient to cater to the current requirements of stringent BIS testing and certification for all the manufacturers and products being manufactured. BIS had still not come up with product manuals for some standards, testing equipment required, testing methodologies and procedures, they added. Footwear retailers seek 8-10 month extension to implement BIS quality control order

According to a new analysis, <keyword id="19895063" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="India" source="keywords">India</keyword> contributed $1.28 billion in <keyword id="20000757" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="climate-finance" source="keywords">climate finance</keyword> through <keyword id="20401772" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="multilateral-development-banks" source="keywords">multilateral development banks</keyword> (MDBs) in 2022, surpassing the contributions of many developed countries. The study, conducted by the UK-based think tank ODI and the <keyword id="23038658" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zurich-Climate-Resilience-Alliance" source="Orion">Zurich Climate Resilience Alliance</keyword>, comes amid a renewed push by some developed countries to broaden the donor base for climate finance to include developing countries like China and <keyword id="50996" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Saudi-Arabia" source="Orion">Saudi Arabia</keyword>. The report reveals that only 12 developed countries provided their fair share of international climate finance in 2022. These countries are -- Norway, France, Luxembourg, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium and Finland. Researchers noted that the significant gap in climate finance is largely due to the United States failing to contribute its fair share. Australia, Spain, Canada and the United Kingdom also performed relatively poorly in this regard. The analysis has identified the top 30 non-Annex II countries that provided substantial climate finance to developing countries in 2022 through multilateral contributions to development banks and climate funds. This group includes former economies in transition like Poland and Russia, countries that have achieved high-income status since 1992, such as Chile, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and South Korea, and middle-income countries with large populations, including Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Nigeria, the Philippines and Pakistan. India provided $1.287 billion in climate finance to other developing countries through MDBs in 2022, a sum larger than what was contributed by some developed countries like Greece ($0.23 billion), Portugal ($0.23 billion), Ireland ($0.3 billion) and New Zealand ($0.27 billion). China provided $ 2.52 billion in climate finance through MDBs in 2022, Brazil gave $ 1.135 billion, South Korea gave $1.13 billion and Argentina gave $1.01 billion. According to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (<keyword id="21931277" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="UNFCCC" source="keywords">UNFCCC</keyword>), adopted in 1992, high-income, industrialised countries (referred to as Annex-II countries) are responsible for providing finance and technology to help developing countries combat and adapt to climate change. These countries, including the US, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand and European Union (EU) member states, such as Germany, France and the UK, have historically benefitted from industrialisation and contributed the most to greenhouse gas emissions. At COP15 in Copenhagen in 2009, these developed countries pledged to jointly provide $100 billion each year by 2020 to help developing countries mitigate and adapt to climate change. However, this target has not been fully met, leading to a significant finance gap. This shortfall has eroded trust and hindered climate action in developing countries. In May, the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (<keyword id="19916574" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="OECD" source="keywords">OECD</keyword>) claimed that developed countries had met the long-standing $ 100 billion-a-year promise by providing nearly $ 116 billion in climate finance to developing countries in 2022, with nearly 70 % of the money given in the form of loans. The ODI researchers pointed out that many developed countries, despite performing well in terms of climate-finance contributions, would make "markedly less progress towards meeting their fair share if the finance provided was accounted for on grant-equivalence terms" -- in other words, if it reflected their real fiscal effort. The report calls for the inclusion of a "burden-sharing mechanism" in the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) to provide clarity on each country's obligations and hold countries accountable. The NCQG refers to the new, larger amount that developed nations must mobilise annually, starting 2025, to support climate action in developing countries. Countries are expected to finalise the NCQG at this year's UN climate conference -- <keyword id="20082972" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="COP29" source="keywords">COP29</keyword> -- in Baku, Azerbaijan in November. The current $100 billion annual climate-finance goal is a collective commitment by developed countries. Its collective nature has meant that individual developed countries are not accountable for specific sums of money, potentially reducing the overall amount of climate finance provided due to the lack of individual scrutiny. The inclusion of a burden-sharing arrangement among developed countries could potentially strengthen the NCQG by fostering greater accountability and trust among parties, according to the ODI researchers. Many developing countries, including India, have recently advocated for such an arrangement to enhance accountability among developed countries.

According to a <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/india/india-accuses-samsung-xiaomi-colluding-with-amazon-flipkart-2024-09-14/">report </a>by Reuters, smartphone makers have been accused of colluding with e-commerce players to launch products on their platforms exclusively. The smartphone makers have also been accused of violating competition laws by giving preference to select sellers, prioritising listings, steeply discounting products and more. <h2>CCI submits report on Amazon and Flipkart</h2>The CCI has reportedly submitted a 1,027-page report on Amazon which has accused Samsung, Xiaomi, OnePlus, Motorola and Realme of being “involved in the practise of exclusive phone launches” and “colluding” with Amazon, breaking competition law. Similarly, the watchdog has submitted a 1,696-page report on Flipkart that has accused Samsung, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Motorola and Vivo of “colluding”. "Exclusivity in business is anathema” CCI's additional director general G.V. Siva Prasad said, as per the report. “Not only is it against free and fair competition but also against the interest of consumers," Prasad added. While the e-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart reportedly downplayed the practice of launching “exclusive” smartphones, the practice was found to be “rampant” during the investigation. India’s e-commerce market is expected to grow from $57 billion in 2023 to over $160 billion in 2028. Smartphone maker Vivo currently has a market share of 19% in smartphone shipments, followed by Samsung and Xiaomi, which have a combined market share of over 35%. As per a recent <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/mobile/news/indian-smartphone-market-records-7-2-growth-in-the-first-half-of-2024-vivo-leads-the-market-in-q2/articleshow/112629172.cms">report</a> by the International Data Corporation, the shipments to online channels grew by 8% year-on-year to reach 50% in Q2 2024, up from 47% in Q2 2023. As per the report, the exclusive launches pushed customers towards these online platforms and harmed small retailers. The investigation stems from a complaint lodged by the Confederation of All India Traders (<keyword id="20143308" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CAIT" source="keywords">CAIT</keyword>) in 2020. The traders body, which has over 80 million members had accused the smartphone makers and e-commerce players of disadvantaging offline retailers and favouring online exclusive launches. Xiaomi and Samsung accused of colluding with Amazon and Flipkart

<ul><li>Attending the MWC in Barcelona on behalf of Business Insider india exposed me to several new things</li><li>Here’s a first-person perspective from my experience covering a mega international event</li><li>Learn more about how to register, travel, and explore such events! </li></ul>After my trip to the MWC 2024 in Barcelona last month, I have been asked multiple times how to go about it. And honestly, I understand. I figured everything out along the way. That’s why I am writing this first-hand account of what to keep in mind for your first MWC, or any such mega international events, something that I wish I had when I was planning my trip. Registration and travel Now how do you go to MWC? The process starts with registering yourself at the MWC <a href="https://register.mwcbarcelona.com/">website</a>. Once you register yourself as a media or analyst you will receive an invite from the MWC team. This invite also has an NOC which you have to submit for your Schengen VISA. This VISA also requires you to provide 6 months of bank statements and 3 months of salary statements. If you are a freelancer you require an NOC from the publication or agency you are working with. You are also required to share 3 years of ITR while submitting your VISA form. There are almost no direct flights to Barcelona from India. So, you either go via Germany or Switzerland. No matter which route you choose, kindly take a layover of at least 2 hours. Not for leisure, but to make your connecting flights on time. My layover while going to Barcelona was at Zurich airport for one hour, which was a race against time. I found myself running along with my colleagues reaching the connecting flight 10 minutes before take off. It’s very risky, and after a 9-hour flight, you do need some time to recharge yourself. A point to note here is that our immigration happened at the Zurich airport itself, and we had to do a security check-in one more time here. Which makes the situation even more time-sensitive. Arriving at Barcelona This year MWC saw a footfall of over 1 lakh people, and the Barcelona administration took good care of us all. When you reach the Barcelona airport you need to have a MWC series app on your phone. This is where you can access all your MWC profile data. You will find booths here providing you with transportation passes. These passes work like any travel card, allowing you to commute throughout the city using buses or metro. Very crucial for you to collect this otherwise the taxi fare in Barcelona is very high. Don’t worry if you miss collecting one since you can find them in the main hall again. I also recommend downloading the TMB app for navigating across the city. It provides you with the fastest routes and guidance to reach your destination. I also recommend either buying international roaming from your service provider or getting a SIM card from the Barcelona airport. You must get a SIM card or have network connectivity before heading out of the airport. Mostly because there is a serious language barrier and you need to have device connectivity for having immediate conversations as well. At the MWC Arena MWC has 8 halls which are scattered across a 500,000 sq. meters exhibition floor space. So, it is important to keep a tab on all notifications on your MWC series app to get timely updates. You can also access the map of the arena in the app — handy when you are covering the event. Generally, most action takes place in the first three halls. So, I recommend spending the first 2 days in Hall-1,2 &amp; 3. Post that you can start exploring all the other halls. This year, the Google Android team had a good easter hunt going on incentivising visitors to explore the entire venue. Throughout day 1 and day 2, exclusive Android pins were spread across booths in all the halls. If you collect all the pins on both days you will get a gift from Google. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any gifts, though I collected around 10 pins, since I was busy shooting, anchoring and editing videos on the go. You should also be aware of the food situation at the MWC arena since the food is very expensive. Gadgets If you have been registered as a media &amp; analyst at the show, there is no strict cap on what you can carry inside the venue. In terms of equipment. My gear was fairly light, and since I was covering the event alone, I needed to be as light as possible. My gear included an iPhone 15 Pro and a Digitek microphone. The footage I shot was then edited on my MacBook Pro. After creating frames for my footage, I controlled the record settings with my Apple Watch Series 9. And yes this is where the Apple ecosystem was at its full utilization to maximise my productivity throughout the coverage. This yet again proves my sincere belief that the iPhone and Macbook put together are a cavalry in their own right. The evening upload was managed by the editor back home. But this planning was possible because I had the efficient gadgets on me. I would recommend carrying multi-pins from your origin country because Barcelona is very expensive for all this. They instead set their eyes on <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-traveling-all-countries-couple-relationship-communication-2024-3">international travel</a>.His wife, a teacher, had been to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-england-to-china-teacher-9-years-relocation-comparison-essay-2023-12">China</a> before and realized she could get a visa to teach at an international school there and bring Scott along. She got a job in a suburb of Shenzhen, China's third-most populous city. The school that hired her also hired Scott, and the two put their lives in the US on hold and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moved-america-to-china-feel-lonely-find-dating-difficult-2024-1">relocated to China</a>.Vleeschouwer said it's taken some time to get used to the language and culture barriers, though they've enjoyed the lower cost of living, the natural landscape, and the relative quiet."When we looked through all the other places to be a teacher overseas, somewhere like China just beat everywhere else," Vleeschouwer said.<h2>Moving to China</h2>Vleeschouwer was born and raised in Maryland. He got a business degree and designed layouts for retail stores. For work, he moved to Roanoke, Virginia; San Antonio; and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-to-phoenix-weather-kansas-overland-park-cost-of-living-2024-1">Phoenix</a> in 2019, where he met his wife.After eight years in retail design, he switched to real estate as an agent and then worked as a mortgage broker for a year. He also held a job building vans, from campers to mobile doctor vans to fire and SWAT trucks. He lived on a sailboat in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/moving-to-mexico-from-us-merida-safety-cost-healthcare-2023-11">Mexico</a> between visits to the US just prior to moving abroad.The couple knew they wanted to go on a "wild adventure" before they had kids, though they also wanted to work during their trip to supplement the costs. After some research, they determined they could live comfortably in <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-work-culture-love-hate-relationship-tech-worker-relocation-2023-12">China</a> and find employment despite the language barrier, as neither speaks fluent Mandarin or Cantonese. Despite some opposition from his family and friends, they predicted their experiences would be better than what many anticipated for them.His wife got a job as a teacher at an international school, and the two moved to China on her visa. Although he had never taught, Vleeschouwer also secured a position at the school. They moved eight months ago to Dapeng, a suburb of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-costco-location-shenzhen-hong-kong-shoppers-2024-3">Shenzhen</a> by the beach.The job allows both of them to take more time off than corporate positions due to various breaks, festivals, and holidays. They get two weeks off for spring break and Christmas, in addition to summer vacation, which has allowed them to visit Beijing and Shanghai. They have also traveled to India, Hong Kong, and the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/retired-millennial-moved-america-philippines-slow-life-debt-free-2024-2">Philippines</a> and booked trips to Indonesia and Kenya."We have access to a lot of places down in Southeast Asia that are pretty quick, short, affordable flights," Vleeschouwer said. "I didn't realize that we would have this many cool places to travel to so close."<h2>Cost of living in China compared to the US</h2>His wife's base salary in China is more than she made in the US, and the school pays for their healthcare and housing. Their flight to China was also paid for, and the school provided them with free lunches.Before moving to China, the couple paid $1,900 a month in rent in Arizona. They still own and maintain two rental homes in the US. He said their internet bill was $130 a month, their cellphone bill was $70, and their electricity bill was $100. He said they spend about $500 to $600 a month on groceries, and their car insurance costs $100 monthly, in addition to $130 a month in gas.In China, bicycles and e-scooters are the most common form of transportation, which saves them over $1,000 a year. They estimate the cost of a decent e-scooter to be $300. They occasionally take DiDi — the Chinese equivalent of Uber — which is only $1 to $2 to their workplace or $30 round-trip to the city's downtown, about an hour away.If they paid rent on their three-bedroom apartment, it would amount to about $800 a month.Their phone bill is $27 monthly for three lines and 45 gigabytes of data. Their three-month water bill was just $9. They spend about $30 a week on groceries, frequently purchasing fresh fruit, fish, and rice. He said they shop at an expat grocery store that's fairly Westernized.<h2>Adjusting to cultural differences</h2>Vleeschouwer said it's taken him some time to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cultural-differences-us-china-2019-5">adjust to cultural norms in China</a> as he tries to improve his language skills.While he's trying to pick up on phrases and expressions to get around easily, he often relies on technology that automatically translates signs and labels. He also uses translation apps for communicating with people who don't speak English, which is very common in his more rural area."The languages are very difficult to learn as an outsider," he said. "You can teach yourself a word, and you say it again, and they don't understand you."He's able to access many apps on his VPN that are otherwise blocked by the government, which has allowed him to stay in better contact with friends and family in the US. Still, he misses having full access to the internet that he had in the US.He's slowly adjusted to restaurants not offering cold water and dining being community-style. He doesn't drink tap water, as boiling it before drinking is recommended. He also knows to take off his shoes before entering someone else's home.Though he can get most of what he needs in his area, he misses the brands he's come to love in the US. Getting products like medicine or vitamins or hair products takes some time to select due to the language barrier, as most brands are China-specific. He said in Shenzhen proper, there are a lot more Western stores, as well as a larger expat community.He has felt very welcomed by those at his school and many in his community, though he said locals are sometimes confused about why he and his wife live so far outside of the city. They've made some good friends in China, many of whom are from abroad."We stick out like a sore thumb, and everyone stares at us," Vleeschouwer said. "We will literally eat dinner and kids will come up and put chairs next to us and just watch us eat dinner. We held someone's baby once; they just handed us their baby because they wanted a picture of their baby with a white person."Sometimes he enjoys doing the more touristy things like hiking the Great Wall of China or visiting Shanghai, parts of which reminded him of the US. He said the scale of cities and the "unfathomable high rises" in China also shocked him. Not having easy access to a car, though, is sometimes tough."We just are kind of locked where we are compared to what we're used to," Vleeschouwer said. "It's a lot like city life, except we just can't go anywhere."They plan to stay in China for two years per his wife's contract, then they're not sure where to go next. They may stay in China, which he said is a "really good place to have children," given six months of paid maternity leave in his city. The device will get three years of Android updates and four years of security updates. The software support offered by the company is decent for this segment. The V30e has its fair share of bloatware. This includes applications like Amazon, Snapchat, PhonePe, Facebook, LinkedIn and more. While these applications can be uninstalled, the V-Appstore, which is the company’s own app store also sends notifications for app recommendations. In terms of performance, the Vivo V30e is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset coupled with 8GB LPDDR5X of RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. While the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 chipset is not a very powerful one, it offers decent performance in this segment. The device can handle multitasking easily. I played Call of Duty: Mobile on the device and it was able to handle the game smoothly, without any stutters. The smartphone is powered by a 5,500mAh battery with 44W fast charging support. The large battery ensures that you do not have to worry about running out of juice during the day. With regular usage, you can get up to two days of battery life out of the device. <h2>Camera</h2>The Vivo V30e comes with a dual camera setup at the back consisting of a 50MP primary camera with a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture. The device is equipped with a 50MP selfie camera, which captures good selfies in daylight and low-light conditions. The front camera also supports 4K video recording, making it a good option for content creators. <h2>Verdict</h2>The Vivo V30e is a decent smartphone that comes with a slightly different design, decent hardware and a large battery. Its sleek design and vibrant display make it a good option in this segment.
